Lyrics:

Drop like get up(?)

Take to the streets

On Iraq(?), yeah, get up

Face full of teeth

When it's hot(?), yeah, spit up

Tasting the beat(or heat?)

Like a beast(?)

(No idea what he's saying here..)

Speak from your gut like a rush of blood

Gave red on the (something) to the ones you love

Lay the sick ones down and the bells will ring

Put pennies on their eyes, let the dead men sing

I shiver and shake through warm and cold and alone

On my own

In every mistake I dig this hole through my skin

And bones

It's harder starting over

Than never to have changed (?)

With blackbirds following me

I'm digging out my grave (or brain?)

They close in, swallowing me

The pain, it comes in waves

I'm getting back what I gave

I sweat through the sheet(?) as daylight breaks(?)

As I waste away

It traps me inside mistakes I made

That's the price I pay

It's harder starting over

Than never to have changed (?)

With blackbirds following me

I'm digging out my grave (or brain?)

They close in, swallowing me

The pain, it comes in waves

I'm getting back what I gave

I drop to the floor like a 10-4(?)

Stop, watching I'm coughing, I can't be more

What I want, what I need over constant war

Like a well full of poison, a rotten core

The blood goes thin, the fever stings

And I shake from the hell that the habits bring

Lay the sick ones down

The bells will ring

Put pennies on their eyes, let the dead men sing

Blackbirds following me

I'm digging out my grave (or brain?)

They close in, swallowing me

The pain, it comes in waves

I'm getting back what I gave

I'm getting back what I gave

When it comes to the lyrics, I'm pretty sure they are about Chester's drug problem...in a darker way than a lot of the songs on MTM. Great song though. It's nice to hear Mike rapping. I can see why it didn't make the album though, not that it's a bad song or anything, but it just doesn't seem like it fits with the rest of the album.

Just listened to Blackbird on YouTube and think Mike and Chester killed it. Mike, in a great way, and Chaz in a "I'm going to edit out his parts" bad way. I loved songs like "My December" because it was unique at the time. But after "Little Things", "Not Alone", and the piano overkill of the live shows, The mellow side of LP bores me to tears.

Botom line: Chester Bennington needs a new popper stopper.

Ok, the song is awesome. I'm sad that my ipod is formatted for a PC, and that broke so I replaced it with a mac. Sadly I didnt have physical backups for all of my live music, so I cant reformat my ipod and buy the game.

But yes, the song is seriously awesome! Thanks for everyone out there in the community! Now I cant wait for a HQ version.

I wonder if this song will see any radio play or if it will remain strictly a "b-side".

I doubt it gets radio play but I don't doubt they play it live.

Fair track, will have to give more listens. Intro is odd. Mike's raps are cool but I don't like Chester's part in the song. Reminds me of how he sounds on Valentine's Day a bit and that song is beyond terrible. The middle section where Mike comes in (the bit from the trailer) is pretty good but other than that, yet another midtempo, no climax song from the MTM sessions. Nothing that would rip a genre to pieces.

So...the intro is really weird, but except for that, I like the global vibe in the song. However....LP f**cking need to do more heavy songs. Heavy in a rock side, or a metal side, or a electronic side, whatever, but heavy. 90% of their songs since the MTM-era are mellows, and it begins to make me bored. Still liking BB though...
