lpliveusername
Hi everyone, we have some fun updates about Xero we'd like to share. A Zomba Music sampler dating from 1998 has surfaced on Discogs. It's titled "New Music Sampler 1999" and includes a brand new version of 'Rhinestone' with Mark Wakefield on vocals. This is the same track that was featured in the series "The Crow: Stairway To Heaven" back in 1999, so the long search for that track is finally over. We do not own a copy of the CD, but good luck to anyone who can actually find it. The lyrics for this version are already available on Linkinpedia and we have updated our The Chronological Order Of The HT Demos thread. Unfortunately we are not able to post the song right now but with all due respect to Linkin Park and their wishes at this time to not leak any studio material, we are working on being able to share the track here with everyone. Meanwhile, here's something we think you all might enjoy: on February 27, 1998 a band known as Brendrin Daddy's played their first show ever and made sure to record just about everything on this special night. They shared the stage with a band that would later be known as Linkin Park! While not really intending to film part of this set, footage of Xero playing "Rhinestone" at Whisky starts at 02:03 and lasts for about 30 seconds: Show page This is the first known live footage of Xero we have seen online. We've recently restored some missing Grey Daze, Xero and Hybrid Theory pages back into our live guide and we are currently working on bringing back the photo galleries. Thanks to community member GingerLP we've also obtained a newspaper clipping of the band playing at Hollywood Athletic Club on October 10th. Show page here. Note that the band was announced as Xero 818. More information on that can be found on the Xero Linkinpedia page. Lestat, our pre-Linkin Park specialist, also obtained new clippings from Hybrid Theory and Grey Daze shows for which we didn't have exact dates yet. Check the pages for Grey Daze playing at the Coconut Teaszer here and Hybrid Theory playing at The Gig-Hollywood here. As always, we are looking into Linkin Park's live history and archiving as much as we can!
Garret
Wow pretty fuckin’ epic. Nice find!!!!! Sucks that you guys can’t release Rhinestone from Stairway To Heaven. I know you guys have it but don’t want to share it with fans. It is what it is. But glad the hunt for that is finally over.
sordomuda
Wow thanks for the update! And also that performance is so lit to watch it after so many years. I hope we will be able to hear someday this Rhinestone version. I respect that you cant share it right now.
hahninator
We would love nothing more than to post it right now, trust me haha. We are working on it. Basically with what happened with the OML demo that leaked and all that, we would just like to extend the courtesy to the band to ask them if it's alright with them. If this was pre-2017 we'd post it immediately. But after 2017 I'd like to just get an OK from LP first.

PeppePark
Double Rhinestone news, wow! Even if this video is on YouTube since 2014... I really hope you guys will be able to release that version!
blackout
Wow, nice find! I'd always wanted to see any Xero/Hybrid Theory live footage - it was really one of the things that I wanted to experience in my life. 😂 The quality isn't the best here but it's better than nothing. I hope we'll be able to see some more recordings like this one day. I can't also wait to hear this version of Rhinestone as it was hyped up so much in recent years. gorast
Running it by the band's probably a safe bet, if only to keep the site from getting smashed to bits by Warner. They do seem (perhaps understandably) a lot less lenient about this sort of thing now. Really can't wait to hear it, though, even if it ends up being disappointing, just because it's been talked about for so long.
Garret
It’s no where near the same as WAYW. This was on a CD released to the public just like the Rapology stuff and what not. WAWY was something that the band didn’t want out and didn’t release it to the public like this version of Rhinestone. I think LPL just doesn’t want to release it. Why would Warner care? We have so many versions of Rhinestone from all those demo CD’s. I mean really.
GingerLP
I can confirm the statement of 'good luck to anyone who can actually find it'
sordomuda
The only thing i dont understand is why would LP dont want to release it now since its already has been released official 234543553 years ago on a cd. Its not a leak like What Are You Worth totally out of nowhere. But ok we will wait. It doesnt have Chester vocals but I am curious to hear it anyway. . To be fair, it's on a "promotional use only" disc. And apparently with stuff like She Couldn't and the DBS demos being such a problem along with Adam's "yeah it'd be great if people wouldn't post that stuff either" statement in response to questions about demo CDs and stuff like that, apparently that's enough to make it off-limits for whatever reason. Throw it on the "stuff we aren't supposed to have for arbitrary reasons" pile along with the multitracks, What Are You Worth, She Couldn't, the DBS demos, Hybrid Party of A Thousand Things, etc...thankfully we found all the Rapology stuff when we did or else it probably wouldn't have been allowed either. ...Holy fuck do I ever hope that whatever legacy I leave behind when I'm dead won't become so convoluted that it prevents the release of music I had nothing to do with. sordomuda
Hybrid Party Of A Thousand Suns is the most „illegal” thing that has ever leaked since it was not even on any promo cd. I thought Rhinestone was used for the soundtrack so that means it was somehow „released”. I didnt know there was a problem with DBS demos. But they were found after 2017 right? The only reason they could be mad for me that makes sense is that they wanted to release Rhinestone, What Are You Worth, She Couldnt and DBS demos once on LPU cd (not everything at once but seperately)

sordomuda
Might be true. Its still great they havent been that much of money makers. If they wanted they could have already released like platinum editions and all the shit.
mrfox
back to Pictureboard, what exactly means it has samples on it? Like from another artists song? And where is the problem, Wish by Nine Inch Nails was also released on LPU cd.

They have probably included the same beat or some parts of it and didnt ask for rights since it was not intended to be released. For using samples you can get sued when you Release it. mrfox
that artist is probably unknown so they can pay him something like 5k $ and problem solved. If they tease that LP b-side compilation/special edition includes Pictureboard, everyone shit their pants and sales will be huge...I think this isn't problem at all especially for the band like Linkin Park, maybe Pictureboard is really a crap
sordomuda
I think it is crap so they wont spend a penny on it lol

Garret
Anything from HT era or prior would have been fine to release before Chester died. When he died, WBR became all nazi and so didn’t Adam who works for them. And now fans are afraid to release it, which really means they just don’t want to give it to other people, it’s an excuse. Meteora era and after is very unlikely to have anything leak in terms of demos or b-sides which is why we only have got stuff from LPU for those. But the HT and prior stuff was actually released in some cases like Rapology and this Rhinestone. What Are You Worth I can understand why the band was mad. Or WBR. Maybe even the Good Goodbye demo. The DBS demos shouldn’t matter since they were from like 2008 and were on a promo CD. And it’s not like Ryan and Amir will ever release any DBS demos from 2005-2008 anyways. If anything they’d give us 2009 stuff which is garbage cuz everyone knows the good DBS stuff was before 2009 before it was changed. The MPC stuff was crazy for us to get and I’m sure Warner wouldn’t like it but it was kept on the down low and it’s still not full songs really. I see no reason as to why they can’t share Rhinestone or at least do it on the down low for the hardcore fans like me and everyone else here who have really wanted to hear this for years. It sucks that the CD surfaces and one person buys it and then nope nobody gets to hear it. Wish someone else bought it cuz I bet it would have been leaked on the down low. Truly a shame.
