Only #2 in US? O.o EDIT: Five for Fighting...I see now..
-
So you are implying that Linkin Park's fan base only consists of those same angsty "hardcore" kids? Or did they change the style of their music to appeal to more people? Ah, exactly. #1: LP doesn't decide everything. Warner Bros. has the ultimate say. They can't make an album that sounds like "mmm cookies" or it wont sell. #2: All of you people bashing me are missing the entire point. If Chester and Mike wanted to do those side projects for fun, they didn't have to sell the music. They could have done what NIN does and accepted donations, just out put the music to share it with the world (Free). They did Fort Minor and Dead By Sunrise to make profit off of what they are doing. You are obviously too blind to see that. (My whole point of "in privacy", I didn't literally mean "private". I guess I should pay more attention on how I word things before I throw it out to the sharks...) Don't you remember what Mike said not too long ago....they probably make a penny off of every album sale? They make most of their money off touring! Sheesh...you guys are like little kids stuck on candy. Someone takes it away and you all whine. (rofl) You make up all these excuses to defend them when it's just the bottom line. As I already said, if they cared about the music only, they could create music while working elsewhere for money. (Hence, your "label" point) They KNOW their music is making millions...they want the money. I don't blame them but it's ignorant for you guys and gals to sit there and act like they care about only the music itself. All money aside. No one "bashed" Linkin Park, Dead By Sunrise OR Fort Minor. It's just fact. You have to make music that appeals to masses by "selling out". You have to SELL THE MUSIC. That's what it means. You can like it or dislike it, but that's how it is. I like all three of the bands but I'm not a brainless consumer. I know what's up and I accept that. Here's another scenario, Xero playing gigs, Warner offers to sign them, they accept. (DING DING DING) Sellout. They are selling themselves to the public. It's not about the damn music anymore at this point. It's about selling the product. If they weren't capable of creating music that sells, they wouldn't have been signed. Therefore, they keep up with the times either by nature - or the label forces them to..and they are creating the music accordingly. $$$ <---- ----> $$$ As far as "Critical Thinking" and "Random Thinking": "How does Chester and Mike need money by doing side projects? First of all, it's a huge risk, seeing as it has a high potential of not being 75% as successful as LP *prob. more*" I'm not the one creating false percentages from my head. Peace and Love. <3

Actually...the definition of sellout is: "Informal. a person who compromises his or her personal values, integrity, talent, or the like, for money or personal advancement." Which is Dead By Sunrise (Chester doing a side project, not in privacy. He wants to make money from it.) Fort Minor (Mike doing a side project, not in privacy. He wants to make money from it.) and Linkin Park ditching their roots to sell records. The bad part is...people taking the term "sellout" as a HORRIBLE thing. Well, in my opinion it is (lol)...but it's not a sin to do it. Linkin Park is not the first to do this, it's part of marketing. Why in the world would a band want to sound the same on every record? They can't or they will lose people. They must experiment new sounds and make music that more people will take a liking to. I prefer Hybrid Theory over any album, others will disagree. No one is right or wrong on how their music sounds. The numbers are what matter. They are selling records to millions.
-
Well, I don't understand why you complain about their new sound compared to their old..and then when I try to explain it you attack me. That's not very cool. Money DOES matter. A guitar at your local shop compared to a custom guitar you can make with anything you ever dreamed of is a big difference. A half stack compared to a full stack (rows of those, mind you) is going to make all the difference. Don't dare to forget about all the different pickups that exist and pedals you pick up along the way. They all affect your "tone" and "sound" as you are saying. My argument was that now that LP is a big band, they don't care so much about energy as they do professionalism. That still isn't the way I want to word it but I can't think of another way to say it. It's not that they don't have energy, it's just not as important at this point in time. They have to worry more about stage design, proper cues, all that stuff that you don't even really care about starting out. All bands do it. They can't go on stage and act like they did when they started out new. (I personally think bands are 10 times cooler when they are raw and still sound good. It makes it more realistic for me.) It's just where the whole term of "sellout" comes into play. I get tired of people saying "OMG LP IS NOT SELLOUTS". If you signed a record label to get famous, you've already become a sellout because you want to "sell" your music "out" to the public instead of just playing because the sole fact you love the art of it. It's part of the music business...you have to make music that sells and the music of the 90's (early 2000's) had WAY different standards than today. The sound has to be 100% polished or people won't like it. I don't agree with it, but that's how it goes.
-
Translation: Fresh band: Bust some ass and get some fans. Pro band: Get yo moneyz. They cared more about their sound then. Now they don't have to, they are making thousands. Just an observation I have made since 2001.
-
Thank you so much! O.O I had all these years (YEARS!!) ago...lost them all on a hard drive crash and could never find them again. Here they are. I love them all.
-
I'm talking about when Anthrax and Public Enemy collaborated and made a song. That was considered the birth of nu-metal because people really liked the combination. Edit: That's also debatable because Aerosmith did the "Walk This Way" collaboration with Run DMC.
-
Nu-metal is rap and rock. It's more defined that it's rap and rock "influences" combined. This is why Korn was considered nu-metal because of the hip-hop style drumbeats combined with the heavy guitar. Public Enemy and Anthrax are considered to be the forefathers of nu-metal.
-
Well no I mean, it sounds "good" but I personally am not a big fan of the recording techniques of todays music. I miss the 90's (early 2000's) when everything was raw. It doesn't suck, it's just not my personal favorite touch.
-
His pitch changes are far too dramatic (because of autotune). I like a more raw sound myself.
-
Too "poppy" for me. Too much obvious auto-tuning as well. I really like the other songs so far though. This will be a very unique album.
-
Without using auto-tune preferably.
-
This is not 100% credible, but it's the only thing I found...said he passed away from a car accident complication. =/ 37 is still pretty young...R.I.P. Roc Raida
-
Eh, it's not like we aren't familiar with "overproduced" anyways. We ARE Linkin Park fans after all.
-
Very famous! And considering Tool isn't really put in the spotlight that much as far as their concerts go (because they choose that way usually), this should be a pretty huge thing for them. It's going to be an awesome show...sucks that I can't go.
-
Oh yeah, I agree with you on that 100%. I am simply complaining because I remember starting a website up with a friend and had it placed on FTG's Wall of Shame simply because we had huge pictures on every page that you clicked on. The only content that we had on the site was bloopers and stuff during previous LP shows, something to add a little twist to the usual LP media people were getting. FTG took it a little overboard in my opinion but I guess I forgot about bazinga! and similar sites causing major chaos around that time (they still do). Forgive and forget I suppose.
-
I think it went downhill with their "Wall of Shame" section that targeted any website that tried to be successful....

There are two issues at hand here with the griping fans. #1: "The same setlist? Lame..." #2: "I'm not downloading the DSP! Grr!" For #1, setlist posting has pretty much been in existence since the internet. However, it didn't become a huge thing until this decade. All of that information doesn't matter though. You are complaining about something you technically weren't "supposed" to know about to begin with. You can't get mad at the band...you brought it on yourself for finding out what they were playing. Big deal. For #2, are you implying that you aren't downloading something that you "paid" for out of spite because of Linkin Park not playing a song of your choice? Well...have fun with that. I think the real reason is that you aren't going to pay for it, and will be downloading it free anyways...and surprise? You want to complain about something you will be getting for free. What a shocker! Take into consideration what YOU bring onto yourself. It's not always the bands fault. (Even when we think it is..it's usually Warner Bros. )

I still listen to what I listened to when I was growing up. That's what most people listen to. They listen to what they grew up with. I don't see how you call a genre of music "immature". Nu-metal was hip hop and rock influences combined...which I myself still have a very strong liking for. I don't care what Linkin Park says....screaming "PUT ME OUT OF MY FUCKING MISERY" is no different than saying "SHUT UP!" 10 times. If they wanted to change, fine. Calling a genre of music "immature" just MAKES them immature.
-
Yes, I'm serious. Hence why I said "Papercut outro that night". They didn't play Points of Authority. >Thanks though< for being Mr. Correction when it was not needed. ANYWAYS Place for my Head (KROQ 2003) is FTW also: To Xero21: I'm not dissing the band at all...well I guess I am, but in all honesty - ALL bands sell out. They smell and touch money and they want more so they get it. This doesn't mean that they abuse it. Linkin Park has done wonderful things, including Music for Relief. You can't honestly think the band has the right to say "Well, we really didn't want our music to be this way, we just wanted more money." They will tell everyone that they wanted to "change musically." lol It's just obvious, just like any other band that completely changes their sound to appeal to a larger audience. There is nothing wrong with it (for them), they haven't suffered obviously. They are a huge band! However, those of us who liked their hybrid sound in the early 00's are unhappy with what we hear now. It's no disrespect to the actual band. As far as their fans go, yes. Their fan base has always been huge but the comparison was the crowd of today compared to their early career. If they kept playing the same style of music, they wouldn't progressively gain more fans, thus they have changed their style of music to appeal to a larger audience. People just don't like the term "selling out" as it sounds negative. Saying you actually like every single song they have ever made is a LIE, because I know that everyone has been pissed about at least one song they have written and recorded. Am I still excited to hear what their next album will sound like? Hell yes.
-
They will definitely put on some good shows. They haven't let us down before....have they? lol
-
He didn't say that. More like "best live act in the world". Source: http://www.nme.com/news/linkin-park/45562

It's called selling out and making ballads to appeal to a large audience. Your point? Anyways, to contribute to the thread. There They Go over the Papercut outro that night:

Dead By Sunrise - Post-Show 7/4/2009 LV
rav0k replied to hahninator's topic in Previous Show Discussion
I'm fairly convinced that if you were able to obtain a soundboard recording of Dead by Sunrise, you would be unhappy with the entire show because of one minor flaw in Chester's singing. You're never happy with anything.
