  1. Mike on the song: Barely a week after tragedy hit Haiti in the form of a massive earthquake, Linkin Park has stepped forward to help the country's struggling residents with Download to Donate for Haiti, an ambitious project featuring new music from some of the industry's top musicians. On Tuesday, we caught up with Mike Shinoda, who is currently working overtime to turn his musical talents into much-needed relief. "Download to Donate has come together very, very quickly," Shinoda explained of the project, featuring brand-new music that can now be downloaded in exchange for a donation to Haiti relief efforts. "It was an idea as of Thursday — and as of right now, we have nine songs up." Shinoda plans to add more tracks in the upcoming days — each from a major act who donated their track in response to the January 12 earthquake. "We ask that you donate, but you don't have to — if all you can afford is to spread the word, embed the widget, share it on Facebook, Twitter, whatever, then that will be good enough," explained the rapper/ songwriter/ guitarist for Linkin Park, whose new track "Not Alone" is offered alongside contributions from Peter Gabriel, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews Band and more. "We're hoping to raise a lot of money for a lot of people who need it in Haiti." "We had a demo [for 'Not Alone'] — the music was laid out, we had done the song a little while ago ... we just never used it because we never thought it was done," Shinoda remembered of the origins of their track. "[After the tragedy in Haiti], we listened to the demo again, essentially scrapped all the words, rewrote the words ... when you've got that idea and emotional charge in you and you put that in the lyrics, for me it does make better lyrics." Those lyrics include, "I break down/ Fear is sinking in/ The cold comes/ Racing through my skin/ Searching for a way to get to you/ Through the storm you go, giving up your home/ Go, leaving all you've known/ You are not alone." "There's an authenticity and a passion that you can hear in Chester's voice on this track; we literally wrote [the new lyrics] via e-mail, before he had flown out from Arizona to L.A. [to record them]," Shinoda said. Part of the remarkable speed behind their reaction to Haiti, Shinoda added, can be attributed to a philanthropic groundwork the band has had in place for a half-decade. "We started our organization, Music for Relief, back in 2005 after the tsunami in South Asia," he explained. "Music for Relief's goal is to provide relief, funds and awareness in the wake of natural disasters ... this is the first time that the technology has been available to do something like this; just a few years ago, it wouldn't be possible for artists to turn around songs so quickly, in a matter of days." Shinoda hopes fans will keep their ears — and their hearts — open for more, as he plans to upload additional tracks in the days to come. "By the way, I should say that Music for Relief [donates] 100 percent of the funds," he added. "We're just a conduit; everybody's working for free and everybody's working hard."
  2. Okay, seriously. I really want this album. It hasn't been working for me all day. Could somebody PLEASE PM it to me? Not to sound....I don't know, like a broken record I guess. I just really don't have a way of getting it.
  3. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1624814/2...nkin_park.jhtml Old news, but I haven't seen it on here. Also, here's an article on the Download to Donate for Haiti project. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1629979/2...nkin_park.jhtml
  4. Haha what? What does A7X have to do with this?
  5. Could somebody PM me the album please? It's seriously just not working for me.
  6. Download doesn't work for me....
  7. I've never even seen this before. Apparently there's a video for each Reanimation song, right?
  8. The runner up of last season's American Idol.
  9. They'll stop playing One Step Closer when they play No Roads Left live. For the upcoming tour, if they actually add any Hybrid Theory songs for the tenth anniversary, it would most definitely be Papercut. If we're lucky, Place For My Head. And I mean LUCKY. For songs that they'll drop.....I see From The Inside getting erased. It's my favorite song by them and I know Chester said it's one of his favorites to perform....but it wasn't a big single here in the US and it doesn't seem to get a huge reaction from the crowd like other songs. I hope they keep it though. No More Sorrow is a maybe. It wasn't a single, but I think it's one of their best live songs and it's a fan favorite from Minutes To Midnight so....who knows. I can see Leave Out All The Rest getting dropped. It's just a kinda meh song in my opinion....not really anyone's favorite as far as I know. And it doesn't get too much of a reaction live, either. I'm pretty sure they were keeping it in the setlists in an attempt to promote it since it was a single... Somewhere I Belong or Lying From You will probably go. One or the other. Guess it just depends on what the band decides. Lying From You is more of a "get up and have fun" song, but I think Somewhere I Belong is more well known, and the band likes the song a lot. I don't see Shadow of the Day leaving, even if a ton of fans would like to see it scrapped. Trust me when I say this, this song is POPULAR. A whole bunch of people know the song, even if they're not LP, or even rock, fans. Points of Authority better not get dropped. That's my favorite live song they do. I also hope they don't get rid of New Divide. I can see it happening, since it was just for the movie, but I mean, this song has skyrocketed to popularity everywhere. Again, everybody knows it, either from the radio or seeing Transformers. And the crowd loses their minds when they play it.
  10. Linkin Park are always No.1 so I'm forced … not forced, I am at the whim of whatever Linkin Park are doing at the time. Hope he didn't mean that in the way that it sounds....
  11. I got the MTM CD/DVD combo thingy at FYE....came inside a cool ass book with the artwork and stories about how the songs were made. The DVD is probably around an hour, maybe less, and it's basically the making of the CD and downtime in the studio. You can also listen to every song on the DVD, and there's the What I've Done music video and the making of that.
  12. Wish I had an iPhone....oh well. Excited about the new song, whatever it may be.
  13. Faith in humanity: Completely lost, and then, restored.
  14. Cause that's what most songs from rock bands are about. It's just how it is. I guess.
  15. Somewhere I Belong and Numb. Weird, right? I love them to death, like every other LP song, but they're just the least enjoyable for me. Not sure what it is about them. And the In The End remix on Reanimation....can't get into it at all.
  16. I like Macao's the best....mainly because the intro that Mike lays on that thing is fucking eerily awesome. It's like a slow, haunting build up. And the crowd fucking explodes when the song starts. That's just an amazing show overall to me...the crowd rocks.
  17. With how much Chester actually contributes to the band, I think it's probably more than some people think. I mean, he definitely had to have been the writer, or at least have written the lyrics, of Valentine's Day and In Pieces. And I think on the MTM DVD there's a clip of him with a rough draft of Leave Out All the Rest. And we've seen him with an acoustic guitar quite a few times. Regardless, with the issue of DBS holding up LP, who really knows besides LP themselves? I'd like to take Ryan's word. Couldn't they just update Chester while he's touring with info on how a song is coming together or rough drafts of lyrics? Couldn't Chester simply record himself singing and send that over to the band? It could just be like him sending over a video or sound recording from his phone to them, and just see what they think. He could be sending over his own ideas. Either way, I don't think there's any real way of telling. I do think Chester should be completely focused on LP right now, but he wanted to do his own thing that he's been planning for what, 5 years? Morning After was written in like, 2001 or probably even earlier. The timing is very off, but maybe this truly was the only time he would be able to get the project off the ground. One thing I really don't like though is how DBS has truly become a full-fledged band instead of just a side-project like it was originally intended to be. If the promotion stays as it is, then I don't see much of a future for DBS outside of the LP/JK community.
  18. MESSAGE FROM THE SULLIVAN FAMILY We would like to thank all of Jimmy’s fans for the heartfelt comments that have been posted – it is comforting to know that his genius and antics were appreciated and that he was loved so much. Our hearts are broken – he was much too young to fall. February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009 Óg agus saor go deo (forever young and free) Barbara & Joe, Kelly & Katie & the extended Sullivan family
  19. I saw them early this year, really grateful that I did now. A7X is one of my favorite bands, and The Rev was just simply an amazing musician all around. I'm not sure what the band will do without him.
  20. edit by Wilderness - I know this is not Linkin Park news, but for me this is newsworthy. Avenged Sevenfold are a big band to me, and The Rev was such an amazing musician and was responsible for some of the greatest tracks they ever put out. You will be missed Jimmy... I am glad I got to see you when I did. RIP. The drummer of Avenged Sevenfold has passed away at the age of 28.....terrible news indeed. HUNTINGTON BEACH James Owen Sullivan, a drummer and backup vocalist for the Southern California band Avenged Sevenfold, was found dead at his home on Monday, authorities have confirmed. Sullivan, who went by the stage name The Rev, appears to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo said. Police were notified by firefighters who had responded to Sullivan's home about 1 p.m. Sullivan was 28. The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the death. Avenged Sevenfold formed in Huntington Beach in 1999. Sullivan was a member from the beginning. Since then, the five-man group has put out four albums and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. The group's self-titled fourth album hit No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2007. According to a message posted by Zacky Vengeance on the band's MySpace page, the group was hard a work on a fifth album. By Monday evening, whispers about Sullivan's death had spread to the band's fan sites on the Internet, which quickly filled with messages of condolence. http://www.ocregister.com/news/sullivan-22...ch-drummer.html http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/n...d-drummer-dead/
  21. Very nice interview, pretty interesting. Excited for this apparent exclusive as well.
  22. The CD has been in Hot Topic every time I'm in there......but I haven't seen it in an FYE and I haven't heard them on the radio AND I've never seen one of their music videos on TV.
  23. I have every show from 2007 to 2009 besides a few summer 09 shows. But the only ones I actually have on my iTunes are: Montreal 08 MSG Auburn 07 Mansfield 07 Denver 07 San Francisco 07 Charlotte 07 Charlotte 08 East Troy 08 Hannover 08 Paris 08 Gräfenhainichen 09 Stuttgart 09 Chiba City 09 Macao 09 My favorites: Both Charlotte shows for obvious reasons, me being there. Auburn 07, Montreal 08, and Macao 09 are my favorites to listen to. Highlights: Bleed It Out from Auburn 07 and East Troy 08 (Sick Rob solo and Sweet Child 'O Mine) New Divide from Macao 09 (Awesome eerie piano intro from Mike) Points of Authority from Macao 09 (Dedicated!), Stuttgart 09 (High Voltage / Bloc Party and Reading My Eyes), Montreal 08 (Crowd is loud as hell, not just on here but the entire show, also I think it was the first time Mike rapped There They Go over the outro) Numb/Encore + Jigga What/Faint from MSG Shadow of the Day from Mansfield 07 (Different guitar solo) Faint from Denver 007 I think Auburn, Montreal, and Macao stand out to me because the crowds on those are AMAZING.
  24. FINALLY understand all this now. Wow. This is a really big mess. And I understand why everyone isn't allowed to talk about it.
