  1. whoops this got really long Well then, what would you suggest they do? You brought up some valid points there. Some. But some aren't necessarily valid. " The record is considered ground-breaking in terms of Linkin Park. Why? Because most of the songs all connect via basic synth lines (Radiance into Burning, Jornada into Waiting, Waiting into Blackout, Fallout into Catalyst)? Why, because Mike is singing on more songs?" It's not that the songs connect, that's not actually new to LP (listen to Reanimation or Meteora). It's the fact that the songs actually don't all sound vaguely similar. It's the fact that instead of Chester and Mike singing and rapping about their feels, they're discussing subjects that are less personal, more...thoughtful. Is it masterfully executed? No. Was it one of the best albums of 2010? No. But did the songs indicate a willingness to deviate from the norm for the band? Yes. The album is indeed the band wanting to be different, and trying to be different. It feels like an experiment. Sure, the sound can evolve naturally, and it will. But sometimes you'll want to push it, see what happens when you take yourself out of the usual situations creating the usual shit. That's called art. You know that Reanimation wasn't entirely the work of the band, right? They didn't do anything on most of those songs. So I don't know why you're bringing Reanimation into the discussion. And in regards to the sampled speeches, the manipulations are an extension of the music and segues in the live setting. It's not like the six of them sat backstage and said "How can we shit all over these two men? Oh yeah, by messing with the speeches! Yeah let's do that!" The samples are put into a different context with a different meaning in live concerts. I can't say anything about the segue from The Catalyst to The Messenger because honestly I hate the studio version of The Messenger and its placement isn't great. It could've been intended to be a quiet closing to the album, intended to bring one back to calmness after the peak of The Catalyst. But I don't know. I don't like The Messenger on the album at all, so I'll move on from that. What about Empty Spaces doesn't sound right? Burning in the Skies evokes imagery of nuclear fallout. Empty Spaces illustrates an emptiness in the world following that event, and then bam, war sounds. Because that's what happens in the vague, vague series of events that you could see in the album. When They Come for Me's flow isn't great, but it's far from the worst Mike's done. Have you listened to Hit the Floor? The Fort Minor-esque raps made their way into the album because the Linkin Park-esque raps are shit. Mike has zero emotion in any of them except for the reprise of High Voltage up until he went and did Fort Minor. It brought an intensity to the words and made you believe them more. And finally, give me one goddamn artist that comes up with 100% original, not-influenced-by-anyone-else-ever music. You can't, because it's impossible. Every single artist in the business today is influenced by the people that came before them, and Linkin Park is no different. This isn't a Coldplay album, or a U2 album, or a NIN album. This is a Linkin Park album. And they're not going to make Hybrid Theory 3. tl;dr I respectfully disagree so shush.
  2. Disagree. I'm not a fan of covers that are purely photography. like every bruce springsteen album cover
  3. Aw, it's not that bad. That guest verse certainly could've been better, though. But just focus on FRGT/10 and let it clear your mind!
  4. +1 But no ATS is definitely the best for me. I can't even really listen to Meteora any more. It's...to me, it's just Hybrid Theory with shittier cover art. That's all. There's very little musical growth. And sure, that can be expected from a band that had existed for all of three years (in the eyes of the public, not in actuality). The second album doesn't have to be a total reinvention. But it should push the boundaries of the established sound, and Meteora doesn't do that at all. It takes the established sound and, honestly, pokes at it a bit, maybe changes the shape a little bit, but certainly doesn't challenge it whatsoever. Shit, Breaking the Habit was probably the most adventurous song on that album, and that's not saying much.
  5. Oh stop crying. Coming Home and Words kick the shit out of LTWYL IMO. Maybe that's because the version of LTWYL here has been out for nearly a year now. But still, the other two are infinitely better. Can't wait for the full-length.
  6. I feel like our perception of Rob is limited because we only knows what he sounds like from his work with Linkin Park, which is a band that's certainly not about letting one instrument take over parts of a song. If Rob did some sort of side-project where he could show off some serious technical drumming, I think it'd then be easier to compare him to other drummers. The only real indicator we have of his skill is The Little Things Give You Away and the Bleed It Out drum solos, which aren't much to go off of.
  7. Holy crap, this is exactly what I was waiting for. Totally buying in now.
  8. Literally any of the Points intros and outros. Throwing verses over that was the best choice the band ever made and it should be brought back for the 2012 tour.
  9. COME TO TAMPA YOU BASTARDS, COME TO TAMPA mid-2012 would be amazing. That would mean a single in May or something, right?
  10. Where's this from?
  11. I think that, of the pre-MTM era of Linkin Park, Reanimation is by far the best album to come out of it. In LP's overall catalogue, it'd definitely be Reanimation vs. ATS. However, I think ATS would win, because there's a more...unified sound? I think that's the way to describe it. Even though Reanimation has more content, the flow between the tracks doesn't always work, and there are a few duds (PLC.4 Mie Haed and Aaron Lewis's atrocious vocals in KRWLNG in particular). Also, the Reanimation song titles are so hard to type without looking them up for me. :x By contrast, I like ATS in its entirety, as well as the songs by themselves. But they're definitely the top two Linkin Park albums. No doubt.
  12. I think we have a winner.
  13. 1. A-Six 2. High Voltage (Live) 3. Fear 4. Pale 5. Slip 6. QWERTY (Live) 7. Sold My Soul to Yo Mama 8. In the End (Demo) 9. Across the Line 10. Program 11. Announcement Service Public Heh, only six of those have vocals. Oh well.

    LPU 11 Launched!

Wouldn't it be great if someone just happened to "accidentally" let Pictureboard slip out on to some random Soundcloud account for a bit? But knowing that it has samples in it is interesting. Gives just a bit of insight into the song. But not really. But what if they played it live, or like, ran through it in a different format without samples for an LPUTV episode or something? I dunno. In addition, I really like how much emotion Mike puts into his verses in Slip. There's an energy and fierceness in them that just, like...particularly in Meteora, a lot of the verses seemed to just be recited, without much feeling, nothing like what he did with Fort Minor or pretty much anything after FM.

    LPU 11 Launched!

    1. Oh, well fuck, I guess it does. 2. chill out bro, we can talk about wanting other demos if we want, not like we're all "FUCK YOU LP YOU SCREWED US OVER BY GIVING US DEMOS WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT" speaking of that I want all of the demos ever just saying

    LPU 11 Launched!

These are both different recordings of the versions we have. They're also significantly higher quality than the 9-Track/8-Track demo (for ITE) and the Frat Party rehearsal. In particular Esaul is a much better addition than ITE because the Frat Party recording was horrible whereas the Untitled demos of ITE were decent enough quality.

    LPU 11 Launched!

Man these demos are amazing. I particularly like the random bass notes right at the end of the ITE demo. Good job, Phoenix (he was still with the band in '98, right?) Also, did anyone notice that the LP logo was modified for this? The top of the circle was cut out, and there's a second circle around the entire thing now. Hmm.
  19. Huh. I do like Pushing Me Away quite a bit. Session of course is fantastic, and Nobody's Listening has a really nice beat to it. LOATR is really calming throughout the whole song. No Roads Left has some crazy shit going on in the background. Almost everything on ATS is fantastic. I think Issho ni is the winner, though. My obsession is unhealthy. might as well be a Mike Shinoda solo track though
  20. In track list order (except for No Roads Left): HT: - Papercut - A Place for My Head - Pushing Me Away Meteora: - Somewhere I Belong - Nobody's Listening - Session MTM: - Leave Out All the Rest - In Between/No Roads Left - The Little Things Give You Away ATS: - Burning in the Skies - Blackout - Iridescent I love Mike's singing voice. I just do. Fight me. BONUS STUFF (from HTEP, Reanimation, LPU CDs, etc.): Part of Me, High Voltage (reprise), Announcement Service Public, Fear, Pale, Issho ni
  21. It looks like Be Somebody is missing too, because I was going to vote for that. If you include the other two bonus tracks, then might as well add Be Somebody. That said, I chose The Hard Way. Everything about it is amazing.
  22. I'm gonna say Shadow of the Day. Yeah, riots, cool shit, all those random multiple endings that were shown. But Chester was literally the only person in the video. I don't like videos like that.
  23. Pensacola...it figures that when I'm finally in Tampa they choose a random-ass city here. How much are tickets running, does anyone know?
