  1. The thing I hate most about DBS is the timing. DBS is clearly the biggest reason this LP album is going to be delayed until this time next year or further. When I first even realized what DBS was, I was thinking it was basically Chester and like 2 other dudes playing some intruments. He would release some music, play a few shows, and that would be that. But hell, DBS has become its own big band, same size as LP, playing Letterman, and all sorts of shit. How in the hell can Chester be remotely concertrated or dedicated to LP in a time of their most important record to date when he is off with this band. I don't like OOA but if Chester wants to do DBS that's cool, more power to him. But why at this time period? I just don't understand the timing and logistics of this band.
  2. I discussed this with Mark the other day and since I am a fool for ratings and such, I thought we mine as well see where some of you place some of Linkin Park's songs - for better or for worse. I'm just curious to see what everyone has to say. Most people will always pop up with the "Whats your favorite/least favorite" song or "Top 5" lists. I'd like to go a little deeper. Check it out, should be interesting, let me know yours. Hybrid Theory Most Signature Guitar Riff One Step Closer - Obviously, being the band's first single, they wanted to come out with a boom. This is a very interesting riff from Brad that works really well in all parts of the song and the intro riff is probably one of the most recognizable in this decade's rock music. Honorable Mention - Points of Authority Most Signature Drum Track A Place For My Head - Rob's drumming has never been mind-blowing complex and its mostly evident on HT. However, his track on APFMH is great material. The intro is eerie and his drumming right after the bridge and into the outro of the song is one of the album's highlights. Honorable Mention - Papercut Most Signature Bass Line A Place For My Head - Going back to Head again, this is one of LP's most original bass lines - and naturally it wasn't done by the great Phoenix. While Brad and Don Gilmore are mostly credited for recording the bass on HT, Ian Hornbeck actually played bass for the recording of this track. The bass in the intro and through out the song really give this song some needed texture and tones that accompany nicely with a stringy guitar riff from Brad. Honorable Mention - Forgotten Most Signature Hahn Track In The End - I had to figure out how to label this category - this is where Mr. Hahn underrated ability comes out in the band. He uses his pads, turntable, and plugs all through out this album (I don't consider CFTI because, c'mon, that would be too obvious). However, In The End wouldn't be the band's most signature tune without Mr. Hahn's intro and outro pad beats. Same goes for Crawling. Unlike MTM, this album is full of great moments by Hahn including the pre-bridge of Papercut, his solo on With You, and his great scratching techniques in the high-energy outro of Points of Authority. Honorable Mention - With You Most Signature Rap Track In The End - I think most people here at LPLive will admit that Mike's verses in In The End or some of the band's best lyrical work. The second verse is insanely good material. Mike has some real original highlights in this album, but ITE is definitley uniquely to the point with passion and force. Honorable Mention - Papercut Most Signature Singing Track One Step Closer - While this may not be the greatest medium to hear Chester, this is without doubt the band's most singature track singing-wise. The monstrous chorus and (obvious!) arena-rock ready bridge, everyone knows who Chester B. and LP is because of this track. Least Signature Guitar Riff Runaway - One of the worst things Brad Delson has done as LP's guitarist. Terrible riff, terrible song. Least Signature Drum Track Pushing Me Away - Nothing special here from Rob, just some pretty standard drum loop action. I think he could have done a ton more with this track. Least Signature Bass Line In The End - While this song has so many accoloades, there is no denying they could have really stepped up a more energetic bass line in the verses. With the simple strumming during the choruses from Brad, there isn't much of a bass line to this song. Least Signature Hahn Track Pushing Me Away - One of the few track's from HT that Hahn doesn't have a clearly signature role in. Funny how hard that is to say when MTM comes around. Least Signature Rap Track One Step Closer - This is a cheater choice because Mike doesn't rap in this song although he does sing part of the chorus live, but most of Mike's raps are good, unique material on this album, it was hard to choose. Least Signature Singing Track Runaway - I know I'm in a small minority here, but this track all around does not do it for me. One of their most whiniest, middle-schoolish tracks and the melodies in this song are horrendous. Best Overall Track In The End - While this is not my favorite song from the album, I will agree that is their best overall track. From the raps to the soaring choruses and the athem mania that is known as the bridge, this is their best overall track on HT. While the guitar and bass are simplier than an Arabian camel, their is enough going on from every member of the band to make this song start off slow, rise up, rise further, and end with a signature beat outro.
  3. It is the fucking point but I think more of what was trying to be said was DBS doesn't fulfill the same type of "bam" that LP did and does. While so many of LP's songs are right in your face with some great guitar tracks and high-energy choruses, DBS doesn't hit that very much and I think she was simply saying DBS doesn't come close to the raw talent and energy that LP brings which is very true.
  4. Agreed. I don't see a full song being played (kinda of defeats the purpose of DBS) but I could definitely see something come out. It would definitely be different than Mike's verses on PoA. But like Astat said, if Mike can use his solo stuff, Chester will have every right to I'm sure. Question is, will he want to and will the set call for any of it to be used?
  5. Interesting article indeed. One of the better ones. Always like it when they ask more "How is this compared to LP" than nothing but DBS questions. The thing on "Shadow" was very interesting. But, again, the more I read these dang articles with Chester, the more I feel he is more dedicated to DBS than LP right now. I know this is an exciting time for Chaz, and even though I'm not real down with DBS, the logic is right. Just horrible timing man? Right in the middle of a big-time LP record? If DBS was not in the picture, I'd bet we have an album on the horizon. Either way, just the way they quote him or he talks just always makes it sound like: Linkin Park is his job, Dead By Sunrise is his time for fun. Weird perception, but thats what I've always just gathered and its one of the reason why I'm not a big DBS fan.
  6. I don't see how Bleed It Out could be on there considering it was released in the summer of 2007. And if the studio version of that song ever were to win a Grammy, well then.... I don't see LP being on any Grammy 2010 stuff.
  7. Its pointless trying to predict because you just never know with this band. I don't think they will EVER stop playing Points of Authority.
  8. It happens. Good list.
  9. The One Step Closer intro used in 2007 didn't stop in November 2007. They used that same intro until March 2008. The second version (bridge intro, I call it) wasn't used until June 2008.
  10. It is a shame because I'm not hating just to be a dick and hate. I love Chester, he's my favorite member of the band, but I'm not going to just "like" the music because its him and he's one of my favorite musicians in my favorite band. I can say, without problem, the music is downright terrible. On the flipside, because I'm a fair person, I'm going to wait until I hear the full album before totally disowning this project. But so far, it's just not doing it for me one bit.
  11. More I hear, more I hate. As original and underground and NOT aimed at radio as Fort Minor was, everything I've heard so far from DBS is generic, boring, overproduced and quite possibly, in my very humble opinion, the worse tracks of Chester out there. I can see why people like the music because they are fans of Chester and fans of Linkin Park, but this music is terrible.
  12. I think there is absolutely nothing similar in DBS and LP. Not one aorta.
  13. When I heard the first "What the hell is wrong with me" I went to Numb/Encore immediately, but you are right... definitely "Given Up Part 2" in that sense. However, of the released DBS material thus far, this would be my favorite. Wow short at 2:16, but the intro is nice. Chorus is ehhh. Still way to over-produced. Hearing Chester in DBS is like hearing a watered-down version of him... it just doesn't sound the same. I understand its not supposed to sound the same, but unlike FM which wasn't done in the middle of an LP album, I just don't understand what Chester is trying to accomplish with this side project in the middle of a crucial time for LP. Like the song, nothing special whatsoever and 2:16 is wild. However, DBS is still getting a big fail from me in all categories so far.
  14. Pushing back the album once again... I do believe I called that. Remember a slightly long time ago, when MS posted on his blog "New Album in 2009?" Ha, what a far cry. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the album didn't drop THIS time next year. If DBS becomes pretty successful (I mixed on how DBS will be perceived by more people), then maybe first of 2011. Bad article. Everytime I read one of these, It just continually makes me think Chester is like an outcast member currently to LP. I "still put 110 % to LP." Can't be done if you are concentrating on your own stuff, while LP waits for you to wrap it up. If there was no thing called DBS, I bet we would have an album in December.
  15. Montreal 08 is the best show from the cycle, without doubts.
  16. Possible, but doubtful. Solid chat. Thanks for the quotes above, I think some good information came out of it. Really like the fact he said he wants this new cycle from the show to the music to the merch to be completely new and unique. I mean, that is every band's goal I do believe for a new album but its always good to hear. Also good to hear about a new stage design - I believe there will be some serious, serious production on the next LP tour. NIN/Metallica-type production.
  17. Without doubt, Busta Rhymes. Even though he only made a few appearances, hindsight has really allowed me to analyze and say the whole situation of him coming on tour was a joke. He was the last act added to PR 08, basically lobbied for his place on the bill and LP felt a little pressure to add more hip-hop act so went for it. The fact that We Made It was played as an encore song the first few shows, while not as bad when it was happening, I think is one of the worst live ideas the band has had. From Mike forgetting his verse on a few occassions to Busta staying on stage well past the song's ending saying LINKIN PARK IS THE BEST FUCKING ROCK BAND IN THE WOOOOOOOOOOORLD MY NIGGGASS, the whole thing was garbage. Hawthorne Heights and Coheed and Cambira also belong no where on the same bill as LP. They were absolutely terrible. I like HIM, but they didn't seem into it at all the whole tour. However, they were a real solid middle act considering the size of the tour. Ashes Divide also were no better than mediocre, and that act just fell apart after PR 08. On the flipside, they've had some great acts accompany them on tour including Chris Cornell. The guy, even just solo, is a legend. He may not be the best showman to join LP (My Chemical Romance easily takes that) but most of his songs are rock staples. I think the best "smaller" act LP has recruited has to be 10 Years. Great, great move on Chester's part to bring them out on PR 08 because it definitley led to 10 Years now being one of my favorite all-time bands.
  18. A 10 hour roadtrip to Maryland for Dead By Sunrise. I think I'll pass.

    LPU9 CD

LPU 7 and 8 are a combined worthless waste of money. The editing on the LPU 7 CD is terrible compared to the actual SBDs and obviously 90% or more of the people who are going to buy a LPU cd are probably already going to have whatever they want as far as what was available at that time when LP made one of their wisest decisions as a band and made SBDs available. LPU 8 is beyond a disgrace, I didn't even buy it. The "music" was absolutely jokish and the theme, and all other bullshit ($29 dollars at Best Buy?!) just really turned me off. However, I had yet another feeling 9 would be a good year, and I don't see how in the world MS could come on here in late August and say something like that and it not be somewhat true. Maybe in the long run 1, maybe 2 demos. Maybe not a whole CD of demos. But MS has confirmed in multiple interviews since New Divide's release that the band wants to release more music that isn't directly involved with a new album and I think this fits this category very, very well.
  20. Considering DBS and considering LP, no matter what, ever releases things on time, I'm looking at June release. I was thinking AFTER all the delays it would definitely have to be February, but with DBS, I just don't see how it could.

    Chester

Considering the amount of interviews we all have read that feature Chester, Mike, LP, or just anyone, you have to ask questions you THINK you don't already know the answer AND something that Chester will actually answer and not say some generic, planned get-out-of-bushes answer to dodge something he doesn't or isn't supposed to answer. I'd like to know if he has any particular cities or shows that he could name of the top of his head that he likes to play in USA. Reason I say USA is because I have a feeling he would drop something non-USA (Hell, he still might lol) into the fold. They play a ton of shows and it would be nice if you could think the band thought a few were extra special - and not just "another date on the bill." Mark is a smart fellow and I trust he will get production out of Chester R.L. Bennington.
  22. Pretty postitive nothing will happen to DSP. Mark forgot to mention, but the same thing happened at the Nashville show in Feb. 2008 that I went to. The POA outro vanished from the speakers but the band continued to play, or "rock it out" according to Mike. Really pissed me off because it was only the 2nd time Mike had ever done "There They Go" over the older POA outro. However, the DSP is fine and recorded it with no problems, you could never tell there was a problem until Mike says instead of "Everyone make some noise"' he says "Turne the FUCKING speakkkers on" and then promptly asks for Jim and Jason afterwards to make sure everything is ok.
  23. The way I look at it is this... I have been a setlist complainer since the very first show of this tour. I was shocked to see pretty much the same songs bunched together in yet a slightly different order. Add New Divide, a cut-down version of Session, and a little busier POA intro and thats all. Why should I even be complaning? I wasn't at any shows this year. It doesn't effect me in any way shape or form if LP plays In The End or And One. However, I am a fan of the band and if there was a tour to ever change something up, this was the one. The setlist that was played during this tour is not bad. While I think Session is extremely overrated in general and on this tour, it was certainly a different way to open the show. I am a fair person and I have not seen this song live so I can't say whether or not I would really like it or not. From the videos and just my preference for LP's kickass intros, it seems a bit anti-climatic TO ME. This setlist also contained my 3 favorite LP songs (Lying, Faint, POA) and my two favorite songs from MTM in Given Up and No More Sorrow. But its the principle. This was simply a small tour played on 3 continents. Wouldn't you think the band as a whole would try and say hey, we probably won't be bringing these songs out next year with the new album and such, why don't we bring back With You and Figure or something. But no. They couldn't. They brought the same stuff that they have played in Europe, USA, Asia and everywhere else in between the past few years. Fact of the matter is, as fans, and as this being a freakign "live guide" site, anyone has the right to complain or suggest something about the setlist. This is what this site is soley about: Linkin Park in its live form. The old "If you were there, you wouldn't be complaining" is true.... I have seen Linkin Park 8 times and it was all during the MTM time period. But either way, its still makes me wonder why this band can't simply change the set and/or add more songs. I don't think anyone here is asking for 8 singles to be dropped and the set be filled with Step Up, And One, By Myself, With You, Easier To Run, QWERTY, and Annoucement Service Public. One or two or something would be at least sufficient. But LP cannot do that and I don't see them doing it on their next tour with new songs having to be played. Probably the thing that bothers me the most is the way their setlist is designed: It kickass for the first 30-40 minutes then really, really slows down in the middle. The encores usually kickass (and this year's set certainly did) but a whole change of pace is needed. They have kept this basic setlist design for a LONG TIME. It's time to ditch it. I just saw this tour as an opportunity for the band to have some fun and do something they haven't done due to being on the MTM cycle and such. But apparently we should be very thankful that the Lord Shinoda changed a few verses here in there, and added a few keyboard pieces identical to what he did mid-PR 07. Apparently we should be content with that.
  24. Huge kudos to Shinoda for doing those verses over POA. However, if you are satisfied with that being basically the lone set changer then I don't know what to say. It is what it is and it is a simple interpolation of a VERSE into one of their most played-songs ever. I'm usually really happy go lucky with this band, and I love LP but I just do not understand for the life of me why they can't change setlists or play some of their older material. Some people on here make it seem like it is nearly impossible for them to do it and we should all bow to the great LP for just playing a damn set. Please.
