  1. Great topic. I think Mark can attest I may be one of the most dedicated when it comes to the DSPs. While I'll admit they have lost my interest quite a bit, early on and basically until right after we got back from the PR 08 Southeast run, I was DSP master. I wish this thread was done about a year ago because I could make a novel on what I liked, and didn't like. I have a good memory and still listen to some select shows, but not nearly as I did. And like Astat said, these days, I almost exclusivley listen to the intros/outros of songs, always POA and NMS, and almost always Faint. I made a CD with an exclusive cover for every show until Tampa 08 and made pretty nifty jewel cases for the shows I went to until Nashville 08. The DSPs were quite a hobby of mine and while there could be improvements, it's definitley one of the better things LP has decided to do in recent years. My overall favorite DSP would probably have to be Montreal 08. Awesome crowd, perfect mix. What I've Done opening the show is phenomenal. This show also featured a complete Given Up scream by Chester and arguably Rob's best drum solo on the cycle. I can't say enough about the crowd and how they fed off into one of LP's best performances of the MTM touring cycle. Some of my other favorites include Atlanta 07, West Palm 08, and a lot of the Asian shows from 2007. Auburn 07 is definitely a great show along with the beginning shows of 2008 in Europe. I'm not sure if I have a least favorite. I remember the shows after Auburn 2007 are probably some of the least impressive in terms of mixing and such. The band didn't sound as tight in California. They got really tight in Texas and about the time they came to the southeast, it was definitely one of their better times on tour because they were flat out on. I'm pretty neutral about Pooch, his work is good but I don't think its as great as it could be. They certainly are 100x better than any crowd recording I have ever heard but some are mixed better than others. He got really good at the first of 2008 but some of the middle of PR 08 are terrible. There's a lot of particular things I like about the DSPs but I'm not going to list them. I'm really glad they do them, and I definitlely wish they would cater each DSP more to each venue and city they are playing with the complete package they bring. A setlist picture should also be a must.
  2. Fan or not, I don't think anyone wants my opinion on this situation but I'm going to post it anyways. DBS is a joke and has been from the get-go. Side projects during time of writing and studio time for your main band should be totally unacceptable from a front man. Debates about how much Chester actually writes for LP aside, I'm shocked he, the other members of LP, and Warner allowed it. Like mentioned, Fort Minor was on a time of significant hiatus and downtime for LP and a good time to initiate the project. While FM wasn't extremely successful commercially, it certainly did much better than what we are seeing out of DBS. For the amount of time seemingly put into the album it is musically boring and unfulfilling. As the great Don Gilmore established in LP in HT and Meteora as albums that can be listened to and enjoyed all the time, OOA just doesn't have that listenability. Of course, the lack of major promotion and no website is pretty dumb. Myspace has become pathetic as a social networking site but it is good for bands... but still, they needed a full-fledged website. Ryan Shuck's answer to that on the JK boards the other day proves he is either a dumb-ass or naive one. Maybe both. Either way, DBS doesn't seemed to be managed very well. Also, it appeared this became much more than just "Chester Bennington" with a title over it. This became a full-fledged band with Ryan and Amir writing and participating quite a bit along with some of the other members. I thought this was all about Chester? Don't get me wrong, this is his thing but it certainly feels like some of the other members had a lot more pull than at the beginning. Why Chester thinks he has to write some of his most personal lyrics with less accomplished musicians like Ryan Shuck rather than the very loyal Mike Shinoda and Co. is beyond me. Perhaps Chester has an issue with his participation with LP. You never know. Tours? The touring situation for DBS has been a joke. They either need to sign up and open for Alice in Chains on their upcoming US tour or do some club gigs. If not, they need to sack it. The whole project seems like a waste. While CBI is getting pretty good airtime here in Atlanta (peaked at #7 on our main station), on the flipside, they were also labeled "Death by Sunrise" the entire time on the website Top 10 songs main page. Tell you something? No one really cares about this band outside of you people on sites like this. I don't know ONE fan of DBS in my personal life (well, except for Mark). Either way, the band doesn't seem to have an identity, and to answer the question, yes, the DBS hype, the little that was overall, is dying and almost gone. And as an LP fan, I think thats tremendous news. Get DBS out, and LP in.
  3. You never know. It could, I wouldn't put it past them. I wouldn't expect it though. There's definitely some hidden jewels I'm sure in the Australia run and others, but overall they will be pretty identical to what we already have. Either way, nice move by the band.
  4. I agree. While the DSPs are one of the greatest things LP has done in recent memory, they certainly tailored off in popularity with me. I used to be so into the things that I literally made a CD for every single DSP until about Tampa 2008, and even fairly unique CD covers for the shows I attended on PR 07 and Nashville 08. However, I stopped like after the Denver 08 show. I only have like a few from this past tour. I think some shows will be cool including Bamboozle, the Melbourne show, and the Berlin 07 show. But other than that, I don't think its that big a deal. Also, I think older shows won't be happening.
  5. True, DBS has been in the making for quite some time, but Chester should realize LP should come before anything. James Hetfield said something about 5-6 years ago saying "side projects take away from the core of the band." I couldn't agree more. While I do think a side project like FM is OK, it was done in a time of hiatus and was definitlely a side project. DBS has become a full-fledged band where people like Ryan and Amir are even doing exclusive interviews... I thought this was supposed to be all about Chester? He devoted a whole decade to LP because LP has been very good to him, personally, socially, and financially. You make it seem like LP owes something to him... hell it should be the opposite because LP gave him the opportunity. Why Chester feels he can't write more of his "personal music" inside LP remains to be seen, perhaps LP is less democratic than we think, but there is still no doubt that DBS has taken away something, even if its a small amount, from the LP camp the past six months. You just can't parade around as the lead singer of two bands, one being one of the biggest in the world, and saying you just couldn't fit your stuff in with what LP is doing.
  6. Jesus, have you even read the thread? Either Mike was confused or something, but I think the basis of this discussion is not to have HTEP songs necessarily in the setlist but rather just plain songs that were dropped from the setlist this last cycle i.e. With You, Runaway, Figure, By Myself, and songs that haven't been seen in quite some time like Easier to Run, Hit the Floor, Pushing Remix, Forgotten, etc. And wait a minute. How many bands that have been playing for many, many years more than LP play some of their most early material because it still remains some of their most popular? I can name COUNTLESS. What the hell does time have anything to do with it? Also, considering the damn fact that some of the songs in this discussion haven't been played in years while they have played songs like In The End and One Step Closer practically every show this decade, wouldn't you say they would want to give some of those songs a break? So their sick of playing songs they haven't played in quite some time? Give me a break. If they don't like them, hey, what can we do? The basis of this thread is just discussing why LP can't ROTATE some of their non-single material from Hybrid Theory and Meteora and whatever else they please... not just HTEP and ancient material that is much more understandable for the band not wanting to play rather than some of their most intriguing non-single songs. Also, I must point out that my favorite LP songs are all singles. I am satisfied when I'm at a LP show. But hey, as a hardcore fan, is it really THAT much to ask to rotate some songs. This isn't a new topic; it's been a topic debated for quite some time now.
  7. No one is saying play a 20 song set of nothing but non-singles. For good God's sake, do you think concert goers who don't post at LP Live or fan sites do not realize a band has more material than what is currently popular? What I've Done was dropped from the setlist on the first show of PR 08 because of curfew, do you honestly think thousands of people walked out of that venue crying because WID wasn't played? Some might have been fairly disappointed if it was their absolute favorite song, but certainly not enough to say the show was bad and they won't ever come back. No one is asking for Super Xero era stuff. We are asking for a few songs that haven't been played in a while that I'm sure most people would love to see again on the next tour.
  8. Brilliant post, absolutely brilliant.
  9. Nobody is saying for people to drop anything off MTM. Add to the setlist like bands do when they add to their collection. Obviously, if its a tour focused on promoting an album, there are going to be songs featured from that album. And that is exactly what LP did. However, still no excuse as to why they can't rotate non-singles in their 3 set rotation much in the same fashion they rotated the likes of HHH, LOATR, etc on PR 07.
  10. People in 2004 would rock their hearts out to With You, Runaway, Figure, Don't Stay and such and those songs were non singles. What would make anyone think they wouldn't participate with those songs right now? Have those songs suddenly been, just, forgotten?
  11. Some of you make it sound like no would know anything outside of Numb, In The End, and Crawling. I've been to multiple shows on multiple tours and believe me, people who DON'T necessarily post here would like to hear some of the non-singles that have seemingly disappeared since the start of MTM cycle. Also, I can be as negative as I want to be. The chat was pretty negative from a fan's POV. I'm not going to wipe Linkin Park's ass just because they are my favorite band. If I don't like what I hear or see, I will post what I think about it. Also, Warner has absolutely no say so whatsoever in what Linkin Park plays. You think everyone in the crowd knows the setlists before hand. You don't think they would still be satisfied if they dropped a few singles for a few "lesser known" songs. Some of you, I question whether you have been to a LP show or not. As Mark mentioned, there are a ton of people who go to LP shows and have a direct interest in the band. They may not be the ones who post here or on the LPU but believe me, they would be thrilled if songs like Figure, By Myself, and With You made reappearances. Also, I guarantee one of the top moments for any crowd goer, hardcore or not, is when the setlist is fairly altered as in Mike's verses ontop of POA (which most people have no idea the words or what's going on) and the extensive intros/outros that are obviously not part of studio tracks. Point is, it's not as everyone is so obsessed with the setlist that a damn corporation like Warner would force one of its biggest assets to play certain songs. They are going to show up either way, whether they have any idea what they are going to play or not.
  12. I think there is some type of confusion about what some fans want played. I think the question in the chat might have been just about HTEP but I think most fans here are talking about material such as With You, Figure, By Myself, Forgotten, etc. While I can vaguely understand why some members won't want to bring back ancient tracks from their youth like And One and Part of Me, I don't understand why some of the studio tracks from HT and Meteora (Reanimation as well) can't be rotated within their setlists along with a solid mix of singles. While you're damn right hardly anyone would know some of those songs out of a huge crowd, I'm pretty positive most will know songs that are on studio albums. There is much more to the average concert goer than just rock radio and that is something I don't think LP understands.
  13. That's quite possibly one of the worst responses I have ever heard. Unfortunately? Sorry the fans that have stuck with you with dedication, loyalty, and not to mention, cold hard cash like the songs that gave you a following. This was apparently a joke of a chat. Everyone gets so excited about Shinoda and he drops all this seemingly negative information. If they can't even put 12 tracks on an album that, probably when its all said and done, took two years to make, then I don't know what to say. Also, I highly doubt this "new song" is going to be anything worth significant interest. My guess is its something like the highly overrated "Lockjaw" or something based more around instrumentation and short length.
  14. I have to highly disagree with you here. While I understand your point and your certainly on par with Mike being the primary writer, Chester, as the lead singer and co-frontman of the band, is needed much more than "5%" of the time. LP is not a NIN type with Mike acting as Trent Reznor. I certainly don't think LP is the type where one person writes everything and just have the others record it. It's possible certain songs are like that, but not over an entire album. I'm certainly a believer that every band member has fairly extensive input on each song they release. DBS has for certain slowed down the LP record, in some fashion. Maybe not as much as someone like myself thinks but its certainly slowed them down. Chester still writes many lyrics and still has his voice in the band. As I said, he can't really give a whole lot of say-so and dedication to LP's weekly recordings and such when he is off with DBS whether on tours, promotions, and such. While I can understand where you're coming from, I think Chester is needed a bit more than just 5% of the time. Perhaps over the past six months, he has only contributed 5% to LP's next record. Yeah... that sounds a bit better.
  15. Well the way some of the clowns on here say it, the band works 12 hour days 365 days a year. Maybe they actually do - they certainly take their sweet time. Look, if there was no DBS, I would definitely say LP would be extremely close to releasing a record. I mean extremely. No one can convince me - not even the illustrious Ryan Shuck - that DBS did not hold back LP. LP in order to be LP is all six members functioning as a whole unit. When we are getting updates and interviews saying Chester is in motherfucking Germany with his (what has become a full-fledged) new band while Mike and the gang are working hard on something we want, a new LP record, then something is not right. Oh, sure. Chester could email some lyrics. Chester can update the guys from his 345th travel to Germany. But that is not getting anything accomplished, at least in my mind. I don't know how LP is working on this album or their work schedules. Chester can babble on say LP is always 100% of my attention and number one... and it might very well be when he is not dealing with his very personal and intricate band. DBS seems like Chester wanting more control of a band and lyrics - however, Chester is such a mellow fellow, it never comes off that way in interviews and such. DBS is garbage and is VERY obviously taking away time that should be dedicated to LP. As I said before, LP is NOT on hiatus and the only times side projects are cool are on times of hiatus.
  16. No this does not satisfy me whatsoever.
  17. My number one issue with Dead By Sunrise is the timing. Terrible, absolutely terrible timing. LP is not on hiatus. The only times side projects are acceptable are on times of hiatus (see: Fort Minor). This is not hiatus time, this is production time for LP and Chester not being there 100% of the time is unacceptable. However, this would be a least a bit OK if the music was good. But it's not. Its quite honestly some of the worst music I've heard in the past few years, and I hate to say that because I love Chaz. The lyrics and overall song structure I just don't understand. While the CBI riff is fair, Fire is one of the most absolute worse guitar tracks I have ever heard; not to mention Chester's terrible wailing all over this record. True, shouldn't have to sound like LP, but at least make good music. Either way, the whole project is terrible. The promos, the art, I just do not like it. As a fan of music, we can all either like something or not. I do not like DBS.
  18. Wow, I didn't even know a band could get nominated for a category like that from a live album. Wow. I would have expected New Divide on there well before What I've Done from RTR... especially considering there is absolutely nothing spectacular from that performance whatsoever. Weird listings this year. Check My Brain isn't surprising and I think they should and will win. I think award shows, like the Grammy's, are trying to get away from picking the most "obvious" pick which in this case would probably be Nickelback. But, all these bands are popular, AIC probably the least, so I would hope they would geth the pick. To be honest, I'd love LP to win but I really don't think they deserve it considering this is a live performance against other songs, just doesn't seem to match up. Whether or not they win, I'll expect big backlash no doubt from those other bands' fans. Also, Dave Matthews Band on Best Rock Album? Weird, no?

    Progress

    On an acoustic performance?
  20. Aly on Project today wished Delson a happy birthday and went on spiel about Shinoda and Delson founding LP, it was cool.
  21. I would agree on ATL. LP's quotes, as we should all know, can be misleading. If someone only knew a little bit about the LPU, one might think that whole song was written a month ago, lol. Really ironic you bring up Dedicated because out of no where in my truck today I was thinking about that song and its recording date. I have to agree; I think the song was recorded later... a lot later than 1999.
  22. I think we all can agree Lockjaw was a convenient present to the LP community for the terrible disaster that was LPU8. Considering it was done in little time and for the Pro Tools spot, it was good timing. As for predictions, who the hell knows. June? September? 2011? 2020? You can never tell with this band. They have been in the studio for well over a year now and they don't appear to be anywhere near being even somewhat complete. Of course, the wonderful "side project" Dead By Sunrise has become nothing more than a gigantic stopgap in LP's way and even Chester is acknowledging how hard it is to juggle both. You cannot tour around, as he is saying probably will happen very soon, and be dedicated to recording and writing with LP. I have a feeling Chester might have his smallest input on this next LP album (in terms of actual writing, of course he will be singing) only because he just simply hasn't been there with the rest of the guys as much. You can differ with me if you like but that is simply the fact. Also, in terms of LP's ridiculous amounts of time to produce a record... its inexcusable. While no one is expecting albums year after year, the pace at which LP makes records is a bit ridiculous. Everyone wants to pat LP on the back for tours and living in studios and hotels and planes... because that is just a terrible life, right? I'm certainly not saying LP has it easy; I'm not a musician but I've traveled a great deal in my life and I know it can certainly drain you. But I also know its some of the most invigorating experiences. They get paid extremely well doing something they love, and get to personally create. As a notable band, they should only be appreciative (certainly not annoyed, which I'm not saying they publicly are) that we want more music from them as it could easily be the opposite way... no one give a rat's ass about them.
