THP Acapellas & Instrumentals to be released Aug 12
Astat replied to GlassCastles's topic in Newswire
James Jean. Not sure how you missed that because his name was thrown around almost as much as the word "visceral" during the pre-album hype. -
Ryu has literally mentioned 3 different track names from Reanimation that he supposedly recorded unreleased verses for. First he was on the With You remix instead of Aceyalone, then he was on an unreleased Points of Authority remix, then Pushing Me Away. The guy clearly doesn't remember shit about what he actually recorded. I pretty much guarantee he recorded one verse for one song, it didn't get used, and his years of partying since then have clouded his memory. Crystal Method definitely had nothing to do with Pushing Me Away, my guess is Ryu recorded a verse for the Crystal Method Points of Authority remix and it didn't end up on the final track. Z-Trip and Prince Paul were mentioned in some pre-Reanimation press that listed contributors to the album (which also listed contributors like Team Sleep, Marilyn Manson, and the Girl Scouts). Tricky might have been included in that list too, I forget.

I'm 99.99999% sure that Rob was referring to the standard versions of those songs performed in 2000-2001. The question he was asked was basically "Did you ever play Hybrid Theory EP songs like (list of HTEP song titles) live," which he gave a catch-all "yes" response to without going into detail about any song in particular. That doesn't really give us any concrete info. I'm not convinced that Part of Me was ever performed live. Carousel was at some point, because samples from it were on Joe's Tasty Gas Station Breals vinyl that he used for live performances. The version of Slip performed live would have been different from the LPU recording too, because the version on the Lockout video starts off with the guitar riff found in the bridge of the studio recording.

There's some original/new stuff in Joe's solo that doesn't come from any previously known song. I definitely remember hearing W&K in there, I was the one who messaged Mark about it and told him to add it...but now I can't find it again, lol.

The size of the GA section tends to vary quite a bit from venue to venue. The GA section at the MN State Fair show is HUGE, for instance. On the flip side, I remember the pit at Blossom Music Center in Ohio being unusually tiny. Regardless, LP's stage setup isn't THAT big, so having a good view from the pit shouldn't be too big of a concern, you might have trouble getting a good view of the screens, but you'll also be close enough that you probably won't need them. It's pretty enjoyable as far as I'm concerned, maybe a little claustrophobia-inducing since you'll constantly be surrounded by people instead of having an aisle in front of you like you would with seats, and being on your feet for a few hours can get tiring...but I do it for 10 hours a day at work anyway.

There have definitely been exceptions to that. I believe the last time anyone in the band made that claim was around the MTM era too.

That's the extended clapping intro that comes out of the end of GATS. Requiem/Catalyst, GATS, Given Up start basically confirmed. -

Show was supposed to start an hour and 40 minutes ago...and not a peep from anybody, despite Comic Con being the #1 trending topic on Twitter at the moment. WTF. -
I'm REALLY surprised the band/management hasn't done anything about Pellington leaking all this info about the Final Masquerade video throughout the process of making it.

Something to keep in mind: 5 songs from a new album in a live set from a band that's on their 6th album is a LOT. Typically the longer a band is around, the fewer songs they play from each new album. It's a simple logistical matter, really. They have a larger catalog of songs to choose from, there's a larger number of songs they'll consider "must-plays" for one reason or another, and you can't exactly just make your live show 30+ minutes longer every time you release an album. There are a LOT of older bands that will put out an album and only play the lead single from it live...ever. KISS's last few albums are a great example of this. They released Psycho Circus in 1998, which had 10 tracks on it. Only 4 of them were ever played live - 3 of them on the album's tour in 1998/1999, and the 2 that weren't the lead single were permanently dropped after that tour. They randomly added one more song for a few shows in 2004, but it was quickly dropped as well. Their next album Sonic Boom came out in 2009. 11 tracks on this one, but again, only 3 of them were ever played live, and only the lead single survived past that album's tour (and even that song has been played VERY sporadically since then). Their most recent album Monster came out in 2012, which had 12 tracks on it, and they actually DID play 6 songs from it live...but half of those songs were played 6 or fewer times in total, and again, only the lead single made it for more than one tour (it's been played 112 times to date, the second-highest total for any song from that album is...18). This is a trend that's only going to continue as the band gets older, guys. The days of hearing every song from the newest Linkin Park album on tour are LONG gone. Look at how many songs from A Thousand Suns and Living Things are left in the live set that haven't been shortened/altered drastically - only two (Burn It Down and Waiting For the End). Were you a fan of Victimized? Hope you got to see it on the last tour, because they'll probably never play it again. This is going to be the norm now. They simply WILL NOT drop stuff like In the End, One Step Closer, Numb, What I've Done, Bleed it Out, etc. to play stuff like Mark the Graves, I'll Be Gone, All For Nothing, etc...nor should they. With a fanbase this volatile, the big singles are probably the only common thread left that will keep putting butts in the seats. -

Why is "lol Mike's trolling" the automatic response every time he says something people don't want to hear? When Mike's trolling it's usually obvious to people who actually understand trolling, and there is NOTHING to gain by trolling about something like this. -

They were also only playing 2 songs from Living Things on the European Tour, then added 3 for HCT. This time they were already playing 3 and added 2. Plus we know they rarely consider intros/interludes to be "songs" so the true number could really be as much as 4 if The Summoning/Drawbar show up somehow. -
Well this topic is certainly going in circles...

Yeah, all of the concerts at the State Fairgrounds go through their own ticketing agency.

Or sooner.

If there isn't a Tumblr/Reddit/something of Geki quotes, there should be. Anyway, I've pretty much given up hope of STP ever playing the other 3 songs off High Rise. -
General Admission = Pit. No seats.
-
Personally, I think there IS something coming and management is just going into damage-control mode because Mike let something slip that he wouldn't have if he'd known he was being filmed.
-
I'll be there, pit. Also, advice for anybody going to this show who's never been to the Minnesota State Fair: Get there EARLY. Gates for the fair open at 6 AM. This is the largest state fair in the country. It WILL be packed, traffic WILL be crazy, and unless you get there at the asscrack of dawn, you probably WILL end up paying a total stranger $20 to park your car in their front yard a mile from the fairgrounds. It's that insane down there. Katie and I are planning on getting up at 4 AM and spending the whole day down there. You also do have to purchase State Fair admission if you're going to the show. It was mentioned on the site I bought my tickets through, but not sure if everybody's aware of it.

Lessons learned from Living Things (Mike comments)
Astat replied to JZLP-Benningstrong's topic in Everything Linkin Park
My biggest gripe with Living Things is that a lot of the songs on it sound like they SHOULD be solid rock songs, but the production on the album pushed everything in more of a pop-oriented direction. Just listen to how the guitars on the live version of Lost in the Echo punch you in the face, then compare it to how fizzy and weak they sound on the album. They pushed all the synths and sampled beats to the front of the mix like they did on A Thousand Suns, but Living Things wasn't nearly as progressive of an album, so the songs just came out sounding like generic pop-rock. It reminds me a lot of the production on Chris Cornell's Scream. The songs were mostly good, but Timbaland doesn't know crap about producing a rock record, so that record constantly sounds like it can't decide if it wants to be a rock album or an R&B album. -
At what point do you hear it? And even if a clip from one of the movie songs is in Inside Living Things, it doesn't necessarily make it Warm Spell by default. We know Warm Spell was a Living Things demo, but we don't know if Ammosick was still in play during the Living Things sessions, or what period the track White Noise originates from. It could still be any of those 3 really.

The only one that's confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt is that the trailer song is Luna. The rest is just people making assumptions.

Harman's pushing a new line of audio equipment with "Signal Doctor" technology built into it, which they claim can "restore" the lost frequencies in compressed music (which I don't believe for a second). I wouldn't be surprised if this "documentary" is nothing more than a long-form advertisement for Signal Doctor.

I say just update the venue website links to the best of our ability and periodically check on them to see if any of them have changed. We don't get a lot of reports on outdated venue links in the Site Correction thread, so I think that's an indication that people aren't using the links much. Probably no harm in having some of the links go outdated from time to time then, maybe it's something we can review every 6 months or so. I'd be willing to help too.
