  1. Mike and the crew have been on a well-deserved break for the last few days after delivering three incredible shows in three days at Rock En Seine in France and the Reading and Leeds festivals in England. It's time for the real fun, though. Mike's performing the first headlining stop on his Post Traumatic European Tour in Köln, Germany at the Palladium on August 29, 2018. Mike's no stranger to Köln - we all know Linkin Park loves Germany, and by extension that means they love Köln. They last performed there in 2014, on The Hunting Party World Tour. This was the largest show in Germany they played on that tour, and boy, did they play a lot of them (a whopping nine shows that tour in Germany alone)! Tracks like 'Rebellion' and 'Guilty All The Same' were performed fresh of The Hunting Party. While not playing a full show in Köln on the Living Things tour due to a lack of a proper European tour, the band did perform 'Burn It Down' at the TV Total Autoball EM show in Köln - one of the only known performances where the band likely lip-synced to some degree (likely due to the show being televised). The band's show there in 2010 on the A Thousand Suns World Tour was a special one for us - the band added 'Lying From You' and 'Leave Out All The Rest' into the setlists completely unrehearsed after reading one of our posts about the lack of setlist diversity. Thanks, guys! The band visited Köln twice on the Minutes To Midnight tour - once in 2008, a full show featuring the live debut of 'In Between,' and once at the very start of the tour in 2007, performing 'What I've Done' for TV Total. And while Linkin Park didn't make it to Köln on the Meteora tour, they delivered two blistering shows there in 2001 on the Hybrid Theory tour, once opening for the Deftones on their 'Back To School' Tour and returning later in the year on the Hybrid Theory European Tour. Both of these shows took place at the Palladium, where Mike is playing. This is about as old-school as it gets. Watch Linkin Park perform 'With You' in Köln, Germany in March 2001 on the Deftones' 'Back To School' Tour. Looking back at the tour, it's pretty much impossible for us to say what will happen at this show. We're at the point where we really can't make any guarantees about the set. We can't even tell you what song will open the show - we're literally at three different options now. 'Petrified' has been the opener for the last couple of festival shows, as well as one headlining show in Singapore. 'Welcome' opened all the shows prior to that, but is now the encore opener (swapping places with 'Petrified'). And while we haven't seen it in action, 'When They Come For Me' is now a potential set opener, as it was slated to open the Leeds set. Due to rain delays, Mike had to redo the entire set and he ended up opening with 'Petrified' instead. Regardless, it's a possibility now. We're inclined to say 'Petrified' will open this show, but anything's on the table now. We're about ready to start listing two different setlists on the show pages, but he really hasn't done a setlist "rotation" yet, so we're holding back to see if he does. As far as the body of the set... we have no clue about that, either. The exciting thing about this tour has been its unpredictability. If you told us that before the Singapore show, Mike would perform 'Hold It Together' for the first time ever and 'High Road' for the first time on the tour, we wouldn't have believed you. Yet, it happened. All Mike needs to do is rehearse the songs with Dan and Matt during soundcheck and it's good to go live. Mike has been surprising us at every single stop of this tour, whether it be randomly adding new songs to the set ('Introduction' and 'Petrified' in Bangkok) or changing up the verses over the intro of 'Kenji' ('It's Goin' Down' in Beijing and 'Until It Breaks' in Shanghai), every show has been its own unique experience. Every setlist has been different in some capacity, whether in big or small ways. The only sets that have been pretty much the same in selection are Summer Sonic Tokyo and Reading - and even then, Mike changed it up slightly by singing the 'Good Goodbye' chorus instead of the 'Bleed It Out' chorus during the mashup at Reading. He was even about to change the opener at a festival set. Anything is possible on the tour. Reading and Leeds were very special shows, and here's something else that was special about them: Mike joined Sum 41 for their cover of 'Faint,' and absolutely killed it and both shows! We've been discussing the potential songs Mike could whip out on this tour, and we've come up with a pretty comprehensive list. Songs the fans want to see the most: 'High Voltage,' the 2015 Remix of 'Cigarettes,' and 'No Roads Left.' Personally, I'd love to see 'It Goes Through' from the MALL Soundtrack be performed. Everything Mike's played so far on the tour has been on the playlist he posted back in May, just before the very first shows of the tour, so it seems like that playlist is the best bet of the songs we're most likely to see on the tour. You never know, though! Click the link above to see what songs are left on the playlist to be performed, and feel free to pitch in about what songs you want to see on the Post Traumatic Tour! Köln will be a show of many firsts, but something else special happening at this show: we have an opening act! For the first time on the Post Traumatic Tour, Mike will be performing after another artist. For both shows in Germany, the English rock band Don Broco will be opening. They're currently touring in support of their new record Technology, featuring big singles like 'Everybody' and 'Come Out To LA.' Their most popular songs are the giant 'You Wanna Know' and energetic 'Priorities.' The band will certainly deliver an epic show that'll pump up the crowd for Mike's set. Is anyone going to the show? This is the first of several headlining shows Mike is playing on this tour. Additionally, he'll be returning to Germany in September for a show in Offenbach. After this show, Mike heads to Russia for two shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The tour ends with Mike opening for Thirty Seconds To Mars at Milano Rocks in Milan, Italy. Mike will take a month's break before returning for an extensive North American run on the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour. We'll be keeping you updated on everything that happens at this show, so be be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world (a couple members from the Discord will be at this show - be sure to say hi)! We just launched the new LPLive Archive YouTube Channel that is loaded with hours of rare content from the Linkin Park world, and we'll also be uploading videos from the Post Traumatic Tour there, too. 2. "SHINOHDAH! MIKE SHINOHDAH! ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY THE READING OR LEEDS FESTIVAL? THE FESTIVALS, MIKE! ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY THEM? READING OR REEEE-LEEDS?" It doesn't really have the same charm two days in a row, but ya know, its Re-Leeds time. After delivering two incredible back-to-back performances to kick off the Post Traumatic European Tour, Mike's ending this triple festival run of shows at the Leeds festival in England today! Mike's last two shows have been nothing short of electrifying. While both have been incredible, they both had very different atmospheres. Rock En Seine in France was the first of them, complete with an epic setlist and an emotional crowd. Many awesome moments were captured on livestream: the first proshots of Mike performing the full versions of 'When They Come For Me' and 'Roads Untraveled,' as well as the very first proshot of 'Kenji,' which graced an extended intro with 'Hands Held High.' 'In The End' was incredibly emotional, half the crowd (both in France and at home watching) in tears. Skip to the next day in Reading, back at 'In The End,' and the vibe is completely different. A crowd of nearly 30,000 people are singing and loud and proud in celebration of Chester. This show had a brighter air of celebration around it, people singing and dancing all throughout to show. That's not to say Rock En Seine wasn't special and hard to enjoy - both were highly interactive and engaging. But Reading felt more... celebratory. Whether that's the result of the performance or the 30,000 people there, it's hard to say. What we can say is that Mike really gave it his all at both of these sets. Though shorter, Reading still opened with the iconic 'Petrified' intro, as well as featuring great performances of 'Castle Of Glass' and 'Make It Up As I Go.' Mike really set the bar high for all the acts following him. An amazing show all around. Watch Mike's full performance at the Reading festival above. Speaking of acts following him, it seems he actually watched and made sure he was the best act of the night! Kidding... but, he did enjoy the night. Sum 41 performed after Mike, and it was certainly special. They've been ending each of their shows with a cover of 'Faint' in honor of Chester, and at this show, Mike joined them for an awesome performance. They performed more or less the full song (minus the bridge), even including the live extended outro. It was a great performance, and you could really tell Mike was happy to be performing the song that way again. Sum 41 is performing after Mike at Leeds as well, so we can likely expect the collaboration to happen again! As far as what we can expect for this show... we still can't say for sure! Mike's opened the last four shows with 'Petrified' - it's been a minute since 'Welcome' opened. The songs have switched places and 'Welcome' now opens the encore of full performances... If 'Welcome' doesn't open this set it might be safe to say that 'Petrified' has replaced it as the opener. We haven't seen the festival 'Welcome' set - or the normal 'Welcome' set for that matter - since Summer Sonic Osaka. Mike said the festival sets would be exclusive - that could mean that the two sets he plays are different from each other. We'll have to see when it happens. It's the first time he's played the Leeds festival since 2003 when Linkin Park headlined, so he'll definitely want to put on a great show. We've been discussing all the potential songs Mike could play on this tour, so be sure to check that out. Maybe we'll start seeing some of those songs brought out sooner than we think! Watch Mike rock the stage with Sum 41 for their cover of 'Faint' at Reading! We'll hopefully be seeing the same thing unfold at Leeds. Is anyone heading to the show? This is Mike's last festival performance (barring Milano Rocks at the end of the tour when he opens for Thirty Seconds To Mars), so we'll be getting back into full sets - with daily surprises - soon. Mike's taking a three day break after this three day run of shows before heading to Köln, Germany for the show on Wednesday. From there, it's through the rest of Europe, from Russia to Sweden for the rest of the European Tour. After this tour wraps up, he'll be taking a month off before returning to the stage in October for the extensive Monster Energy Outbreak Tour across North America. We'll be keeping you updated on everything that happens at this show, so be be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! 3. So if you remember, a couple of month ago (on May 2, to be precise) Mike made this iTunes Playlist of songs he was considering for the Post Traumatic Tour. So far everything he's played on the tour so far (barring 'Introduction' and the new Post Traumatic songs) is on this playlist. My guess is that all these songs are ones he rehearsed or at least worked with while making his setlist (he made it a week and a half before he played his first show), so my guess is any song that's yet to be added is probably already on this playlist - and can probably be added in with minimal rehearsal (as mentioned before, a soundcheck is all they need). So far, this is what's on the playlist that hasn't been played yet: Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You It's Goin' Down (Full) Second To None Until It Breaks (Full) Cigarettes Wretches & Kings Believe Me Invisible A Light That Never Comes It Goes Through Skin To Bone H! Vltg3 Big Pimpin'/Papercut (He's already playing 'Papercut') In Stereo Devil's Drop Burning In The Skies Points Of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer Nothing Makes Sense Anymore Iridescent The Last Line I figure this is the most realistic list of what we're working with, but you never know.
  4. This was a fucking show, wow. HUGE support for Mike and LP. Chester chants before the show started according to Mike. Two absolutely INSANE shows back to back, though I will say Rock En Seine definitely had an air of sadness in it. This show was a straight celebration.
  5. "CHESTAH! CHESTAH!" "WHAT, JOE?" "ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY AT READING OR LEEDS FESTIVAL?" "JOEEEE! ARE YOU GOING TO BE PLAYING LEEDS OR READING FESTIVAL? SPEAK SLOWLY AND PRECISELY! I CAN'T UNDERSTAAAAAAAND YOUUUUUUUU!" "SHINOHDAH! MIKE SHINOHDAH! ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY THE READING OR LEEDS FESTIVAL? THE FESTIVALS, MIKE! ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY THEM? READING OR REEEE-LEEDS?" Yes, Joe. Yes he is. Mike's kicking off the Post Traumatic European Tour with a big run of three festival shows in three days. The second of these shows is the Reading festival in England, and if you're in the United Kingdom, you can watch it live from the comfort of your own home! Mike's European Tour got off to a strong start in France's Rock En Seine, and we got to watch it all unfold onstream. This show had the same songs as the band's set at the Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo the other night, but Mike's keeping things unique every show. Just because the songs played were the same doesn't mean the show was the same, and there certainly a bunch of little moments. A big one: Mike sang the chorus of 'Good Goodbye' instead of the chorus of 'Bleed It Out' during the mashup of the two songs, something he started doing at the last show of the Asian Tour in Singapore. Other little moments include Mike's super emotional speech during 'In The End' and messing up the lyrics to 'Make It Up As I Go' in a funny way - we're all human, can't blame him! Overall, it was a fantastic show with lots of energy. This show gave us the proshot footage of many songs on this tour, like 'Petrified' and 'When They Come For Me,' and the first ever proshot of 'Kenji.' Watch Mike's full set at the Rock En Seine festival yesterday - a really electrifying performance. First proshot of the tour, and it's definitely a worthwhile watch. This is Mike's first solo show in England... sort of. While it's the first stop there on his solo career, Mike performed a solo Fort Minor show in London in 2015. This was a super special show, being the last Fort Minor show that's been played (as of the writing of this post), and featured an awesome setlist which included the Suicide Music mashup version of 'High Voltage,' 'Devil's Drop' from the MALL Soundtrack, and the live remix version of 'Cigarettes.' Two of those are some of the most requested songs fans want to hear on the Post Traumatic Tour - we wrote a post recently about what songs Mike could add to the set that fans want to hear, and 'High Voltage' and 'Cigarettes' were both some of the most requested. Back to this Fort Minor show - Mike actually did something special to open the encore there, playing the Funky Rebel Break beat he used earlier in the show and throwing some verse requests from the crowd over it. Mike ended up rapping 'There You Go' for the first time on the tour, as well as 'A Place For My Head' for the first time as Fort Minor. See Mike rap verses of 'There They Go' and 'A Place For My Head' at his Fort Minor show in London in 2015. Definitely one of the most iconic moments of the tour. It's been quite some time since Mike has performed at the Reading festival. While Linkin Park's final shows on the One More Light European Tour were all in England, the band hadn't performed at the Reading and Leeds festivals since August 2003, on the Meteora World Tour. You probably all know the iconic skit I quoted at the start of this post that came from before those shows. At the time, these were some pretty big shows for the band - headlining these festivals is no joke. While Mike isn't headlining, he's still gracing the mainstage before the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Panic! At The Disco, Dua Lipa, and Sum 41. Mike's great friends with the members of Sum 41 - drummer Frank Zummo performed with Linkin Park at the Hollywood Bowl tribute show, absolutely killing it on 'Rebellion,' 'The Catalyst,' and 'A Light That Never Comes,' while singer Deryck Whibley delivered a stunning vocal performance during 'The Catalyst.' Sum 41 have also been closing their shows with a cover of 'Faint,' dedicating the song to Chester each night. They skip Mike parts when performing it, but... if they have Mike there, why not play the whole thing? Plus, we'd get a PROSHOT of that. Mike recently joined ONE OK ROCK during their set at the Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka for the song 'One Way Ticket,' Mike rapping parts of 'Where'd You Go' over the first verse of the song. This'd be an awesome opportunity to see a collaboration happen! On the list of "shit we want to see happen," Mike joining Sum 41 for 'Faint' is up there. Seeing that in proshot quality too... make it happen, guys. How can we be so sure we'll get a proshot? Because the Reading festival in livestreamed! The full main stage lineup and then some will be broadcasted on BBC Radio 1. There's a downside to this, however; BBC Radio 1 streams are region-locked to the United Kingdom only... but, being the sneaky bastards we are, have a work around for you. If you have a good VPN, chances are you'll be alright to watch the stream anyway. Do not use the extension Hola - instead, use this Chrome extension called Beebs, made specifically to bypass the BBC Radio 1 region blocks. Mike hits the stage at 2:50 BST. For a download link to that extension as well as a countdown, timezone converter, and link to the stream, check the spoiler tag: LIVESTREAM INFO: What can we expect from this show? Probably not any huge surprises - Mike plays it pretty safe with festivals. Rock En Seine was identical in song-selection as Summer Sonic Tokyo, but Mike has a little less set time - likely around 45-50 minutes. Mike has two effective setlists - the one that opens with 'Petrified' and the one that opens with 'Welcome.' 'Petrified' has opened the last three shows (Tokyo, Singapore, Paris). Mike also said these sets will be "exclusive" - which probably just means one will be the 'Welcome' set and the other will be the 'Petrified' one. Or, maybe Mike completely flips stuff up. Who knows! We'll have to find out. Ideally, Mike will play the 'Welcome' set at this show so we could get a proshot of both versions of the set. Is anyone planning on going? After Reading, Mike heads to the Leeds festival to wrap up this three-day festival run. From there, we get back into full shows with headlining stops across Europe, starting with Köln, Germany. After this tour wraps up with an opening spot for Thirty Seconds To Mars in Italy, Mike takes a month break before returning to North America for the extensive Monster Outbreak Energy Tour. We'll be keeping you updated on everything that happens at this show, so be be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! We just launched the new LPLive Archive YouTube Channel that is loaded with hours of rare content from the Linkin Park world, and we'll also be uploading videos from the Post Traumatic Tour there, too. 6. If you've been following along with the Post Traumatic Tour coverage, you'll know it's been a wild ride. We're only one official leg though the tour, and the setlist has almost completely morphed. We have different openers, different extensions, and even new songs popping up out of the blue. With so much potential, there's a LOT of possibilities for songs Mike could play. I asked Twitter and our Discord chat what songs they'd want to hear, and here's some of their answers. In this thread we'll be looking at all the possibilities Mike could bring into the set. And Mike, if you're reading this... firstly, hi! Tell the crew they're doing an awesome job. Secondly, whatever you add to the set is completely up to you, we just have fun picking stuff like this out! And anyone else reading this, remember that, as well: what Mike adds to his set is ultimately up to him, but hopefully some of these suggestions will find their way in. Anyway, let's get started. Let's begin with what we love the most: rare shit. These are some of the most requested songs that are considered rarities because they haven't been played in a long time OR they've never been played at all. RARITIES No Roads Left - LOTS of people responded on Twitter and Discord for this one. Fans have been requesting 'No Roads Left' in a setlist since the Minutes To Midnight Tour. The song was rehearsed in 2008, but ultimately Mike just wasn't ready to sing it live. The only time 'No Roads Left' was ever performed live was when Mike briefly sang the first verse and chorus during the extended bridge of 'Bleed It Out' in Japan 2011. We won't sugarcoat it - it was a bit bumpy. HOWEVER, Mike's voice is in better shape than it has ever been. Just listen to him absolutely nail it on songs like 'Roads Untraveled' and 'Sorry For Now.' Mike could really do 'No Roads Left' some justice... If there ever was a time to whip this one out, it's now the time. If you wanna have fun with it, make it a "Roads Rotation" spot, alternating 'Roads Untraveled' and 'No Roads Left' between shows. Just an idea! High Voltage - Another highly requested track, 'High Voltage' was a big highlight when Mike added it to his 2015 Fort Minor set. It was a riot back in 2001 when Linkin Park performed the Mike Shinoda remix version of it, too. It's simply a real jam of a track that has the place exploding, evidenced by all the random times it's appeared as a verse over the years. Whether we see the 2001 Remix version or the Fort Minor Suicide Music mashup version, fans will certainly be pleased with it. Cigarettes - When we say fans want 'Cigarettes,' we mean fans want the 2015 Live Version of 'Cigarettes.' You're probably familiar with how Mike performs 'Papercut' nowadays with the vocoder and such - this version of 'Cigarettes' was sort of the precursor to that. The rebuilt dramatic instrumental and that incredible ending - it's a damn shame it hasn't been performed more. Bringing it back for the Post Traumatic Tour would be awesome. It Goes Through - This is more of a personal request, but I can do that, because I'm the one writing this post. Checkmate. Anyway, of all the tracks from the MALL Soundtrack, this one has to be the most unappreciated. Seeing this one life would be simply stunning. Those melodies, that synth solo... add some stage production to it and you have a live classic. Others - This is a post for the fans, by the fans. I could keep writing this list for hours, but frankly it's late and no one's going to read all of that anyway. We received dozens of other ideas from you guys on Discord and Twitter, and some recurring songs were: 'Final Masquerade,' 'Waiting For Tomorrow' (this could be a cool interlude moment or something like 'Darker Than Blood' was in 2015), 'Slip Out The Back' (shoutout to our friends at LPFanCorner), and 'Invisible.' POST TRAUMATIC SONGS Mike debuted 'Hold It Together' live at the last show of the Asian Tour in Singapore after rehearsing it earlier in the day. That's all he needs to have a song prepared to perform live: a couple runs at soundcheck. That's literally the precedent. There's no point writing up something for each song that hasn't been performed yet, but I think I can safely say everyone wants to hear the rest of Post Traumatic played live! At this point it seems inevitable that we'll eventually hear the rest of the record live at some point on the tour, so we'll just have to wait and see when certain songs pop up. Personally, I can't wait to hear 'Promises I Can't Keep' live! Of course, adding more songs will mean having to eventually adding more rotations or even playing a longer set but... Mike doesn't seem like he'll have a problem with that. As a little refresher, here is a list of the songs from the record that haven't been performed yet: Nothing Makes Sense Anymore Brooding - this could be used a cool intro to either the show or the encore! Promises I Can't Keep Lift Off - Mike's performing with the Deftones in November, maybe we'll see the song performed with Chino Moreno then! World's On Fire - LOTS of fans were asking for this one on Twitter and Discord Can't Hear You Now A little more than half of the record has already been performed live, with just six left. Hopefully we'll see them performed sooner than later! SING-A-LONG SONGS Mike recently started performing an acapella version of a song during his sets after fans in Beijing literally stayed at the venue for an hour after his set ended singing Linkin Park songs. That is pure love for music. So far, only 'Faint' and 'Waiting For The End' have been performed in this format, 'Waiting For The End' now sort of an outro for the 'Waiting For The End' mashup with 'Where'd You Go.' This part of the set opens up so much potential for songs. And by more potential, I mean Mike could literally play any song in his entire discography here. Now, this doesn't mean he'll be whipping out a 'Hit The Floor' acapella anytime soon (nor do we really want him to), but this does means he could start singing any song and the crowd will be singing along with him. The following songs have either never been performed live or haven't been performed in a very long time (or just haven't been played on the tour) that fans would 100% all sing at the top of their lungs if Mike were to lead an acapella of them: Powerless Halfway Right No Roads Left In My Remains I'll Be Gone Lying From You Shadow Of The Day The Little Things Give You Away One More Light The Catalyst The Messenger A Place For My Head Believe Me In Stereo There They Go And honestly, the list could keep going on and on. Whatever song Mike's thinking of that day could be played. Mike could bring back that cover of Rihanna's 'Umbrella' he used to do in 2008 and people would still sing with him. These are just suggestions, of course. It'd be a cool spot for requests especially since it just requires him to lead the crowd rather than actually sing it himself. Of course, some songs lend themselves to singing-along with more than others, but these are just some suggestions! THE PLAYLIST So if you remember, a couple of month ago (on May 2, to be precise) Mike made this iTunes Playlist of songs he was considering for the Post Traumatic Tour. IN CONCLUSION We're all super excited for the Post Traumatic tour as it slowly but surely makes its way around the world. As live enthusiasts, we love seeing new songs performed and love seeing the sets change every day, and especially seeing Mike having fun changing things up. We'll be honest - we end up getting pretty burned out when Linkin Park ends up playing the same setlist throughout the entire tour. The first few shows after a new set debuts are always exciting but... it gets old. The Hunting Party Tour was rough for us to keep our interests up. However, with this tour... Mike's exciting us. Every show is a new experience - we're actively looking up videos from the shows and scouring for details. Covering shows is super fun right now, and we want that to stay the way it is. However, we don't want to make it seem like to keep us interested you have to keep changing the shows in really big ways. Not at all. There really haven't even been huge changes between some shows on this tour, but each show comes with its own special moments. Mike even said when he talked about LPLive in Shanghai: "For me, that’s one of the things that makes playing live shows so fun. Even if we’re doing the same set with Linkin Park for months, it would be fun to do little things that were different.” It really is the little things that make things interesting. Would we love to see 'No Roads Left' live? Of course. But at the end of the day we want to see Mike having fun performing a set he's proud of. This post is for the fans, and is really just a culmination of all the requests we've seen. This doesn't guarantee any changes, but... hey, it was fun to write! What songs do YOU want to see performed live on the Post Traumatic Tour? Anything we missed that you'd like to hear? I asked our Discord community and our Twitter followers on their opinions with this to make this post - be sure to join and follow on both! 7. Things are certainly getting interesting in the Grey Daze camp! Chester's old band has been hard at work remastering and remixing old songs from their old records, and it seems they're cooking up something else. Grey Daze is in the studio at NRG Records, recording something new. The band posted the above picture to their Instagram with the caption "Making history today" - what could it be? It's hard to say. The band could either be putting some finishing touches on the remasters of the old tracks, or even potentially making some new material. It's likely the former, but time will tell! Grey Daze recently previewed the remixed versions of 'In Time' and 'Hole' for fans on a livestream. What do you think the band is cooking up? Whatever it is, it might be coming sooner than we think. Grey Daze was scheduled to reunite late last year, and though that unfortunately didn't get to happen, the band still performed with members of Julien-K in honor of Chester, performing Dead By Sunrise songs 'Let Down' and 'Morning After,' as well as the Grey Daze track 'The Down Syndrome.' Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates on this project, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! 8. Europe, your time is here. Mike is kicking off his ten show Post Traumatic European Tour on August 24 in Paris, France at the Rock En Seine festival, and it looks like there'll be a livestream for those who can't make it (more information on the livestream is lower in the post)! It hasn't been long since Mike was last in France. Linkin Park performed at the Download Paris festival just last year to start the One More Light European Tour, debuting new production and stage design. Later on the same tour, the band performed at Hellfest, a heavy metal festival. Despite touring for their softest record yet, the show went pretty well! Chester had tweeted after the show: "Hell fest was fun. Had a blast watching people mosh to 'In the End' and then flip me off when we played 'Heavy.' I blew them kisses. After I blew kisses to the guys flipping me off. They smiled and gave me heart hands back. I welcomed the huge crowd of condemned souls to HELLFEST in my metal voice then we played 'Invisible'. The look of shock on people's faces... All kidding aside.... the crowd was great and handled our set pretty well. Our French fans are awesome." This show was also the tour debut of 'From The Inside,' the song being the fourth song added to the "heavy" song rotation. Mike has performed in Paris with Linkin Park and Fort Minor an insane amount of times in total. A show in Paris in January 2001 was the first European show Linkin Park ever played. The healthy history in Paris has always lent itself to some awesome and memorable shows, so instead of writing a textbook about every single show that's happened there, let's look back at some of the most memorable moments. Several shows throughout 2001 had some great audio and video recordings that are still some of the best from the Hybrid Theory era, including a show there on the Hybrid Theory European Tour where they brought back 'Step Up' mid-tour. The show in 2014 during The Hunting Party European Tour was also special, featuring Austin Carlile formerly of Of Mice & Men during 'Faint.' And of course, who could forget the legendary 2010 show, where the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of Hybrid Theory with a special and unforgettable performance of 'A Place For My Head?' 'A Place For My Head' is a legendary song, but this performance of it takes that to a whole other level. The only full performance of the song during the entire A Thousand Suns World Tour, and it truly was a monumental performance. Mike's European Tour is starting right off the heels of the Post Traumatic Asian Tour, which literally ended two nights before this show happens in Singapore. This first leg of the tour truly set a precedent for everything yet to come. Remember how nearly every show on the One More Light European Tour had a unique setlist in some fashion? This tour has been like that, but on drugs. So far, Mike literally hasn't played the same show twice. Looking at how much the setlist changed from the start of the tour to where it is now is crazy. It began with all the new extensions, production, and changes with the first show in Hong Kong. Then, Mike added 'Introduction' and 'Petrified' at the next show in Bangkok. By the end of the tour in Singapore, we ended up with the live debut of 'Hold It Together' and the tour debut of 'High Road,' along with 'Petrified' now opening the show and 'Welcome' opening the encore. We effectively have two different setlists (assuming things are getting rotated now - we'll decide what to do with set names if that's the case) now, over the span of pretty much two weeks. That's not to mention the different verses Mike did over the intro of 'Kenji' (including 'Hands Held High, 'It's Goin' Down,' and 'Until It Breaks') and the new acapella part of the set, which started as a 'Faint' acapella and is now a Hollywood Bowl-style 'Waiting For The End' sing-a-long that comes straight out of the 'Waiting For The End' and 'Where'd You Go' mashup. Mike has changed things up at the drop of a hat, and he's not showing any signs of slowing down. It's going to be pretty interesting to see where the set goes from here and how it'll look by the end of the European Tour. The standard of adding a new song to the set is running through it a few times during soundcheck. At this rate, we could see the live debuts of the rest of the Post Traumatic songs at any moment, or any number of songs for that matter. Mike's vocals are better than they've ever been - even 'No Roads Left' isn't a wild guess anymore. We'll have a post later today about all the possibilities that are out there right now, and you better believe there's a lot of them. Will Mike keep up the streak of playing a unique set in France? Mike performed 'Hold It Together' live for the first time in Singapore, and boy was it awesome! The precedent for adding a new song to the set is a couple run throughs of the song at soundcheck earlier in the day. Lots of potential for awesome changes to the set on the fly. Now what most of you have been skimming through the post for - livestream info! We're not 100% sure about this, but from what we can tell, this festival will be livestreamed by Culturebox, who have livestreamed the event in previous years. There's always a possibility Mike's set might not be streamed for one reason or another, but knowing him he'll try to make sure it is if it's in his control. Mike goes on at 6:45 local time and plays for an hour - around the same amount of time he had for the Summer Sonic Tokyo performance. Check below for a link, timezone converters, and a countdown to Mike's set. Keep an eye out on our social media for updates on the stream. LIVESTREAM INFO: Anyone planning on going? A few members of our Discord community are going - be sure to join it to interact with fans from around the world and talk about the band! After this show, Mike heads to England to perform at the Reading and Leeds festivals - if we don't end up getting this set streamed, it's pretty likely we'll get the Reading set streamed, so look forward to that! From there, Mike embarks on headlining shows across the continent, ending the tour with an opening set for Thirty Seconds To Mars in Italy. After a month's break, Mike will be touring North America for the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour. 9. Another week, another load of merch to empty your wallet on! Mike's official store has added some new items to the store. This release hasn't really been dubbed a "collection" like the previous merch releases, and is much more limited than previous releases. The main focus of this collection are three new skate decks, all based around art from Post Traumatic. There are three different ones: a red, blue, and green one. Additionally, black Boris and Mrs. Oatmeal socks are now available, as well as a new Flannoda flannel that's blue-green and black. The description reads: "It's not FLANNODA, but it's close. What it lacks in magical properties it more than makes up for in wearability." Visit the official Mike Shinoda store to purchase the new merch. Anyone planning on buying any of these things? The skate decks will be nice for the collectors. No new square-designed t-shirts are available (darn), so if you're not too into collecting things, your wallet might be safe this time. follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! We just launched the new LPLive Archive YouTube Channel that is loaded with hours of rare content from the Linkin Park world, and we'll also be uploading videos from the Post Traumatic Tour there, too. 11. And just like, the first leg of the Post Traumatic Tour is coming to a close. Mike's ending the Asian Leg of his tour in Singapore on August 22 at the Zepp@BIGBOX. This Asian Tour has been full of surprises. Every show has had something different going for it that made it unique. Opening night in Hong Kong was a bit of a bumpy road, with lots of gear being fried at a rehearsal the day before, but the band pulled through and delivered an awesome show, debuting lots of changes like an extended outro for 'Place To Start' and the full versions of 'Roads Untraveled' and 'When They Come For Me.' Bangkok followed, the gear now all in shape and the setlist coming off flawlessly, Mike adding new versions of 'Introduction' and 'Petrified' to open the encore, and adding 'Hands Held High' over the extended intro of 'Kenji.' The next stop in Incheon was the first festival stop of the tour, making for an energetic but short set. The band brought their all and really set the tone before Nine Inch Nails headlined the show. Then came Mike's short run of China shows. We were in the dark for quite awhile about these, but we've slowly gotten more and more info. What we do know is that all of these shows were censored as a result of China's strict censorship rules. The tour started in Beijing, a show where we only JUST found the first videos from recently. As 'Hands Held High' is banned in China, Mike began experimenting a bit. Instead of 'Hands Held High,' Mike rapped verse one and part of verse two of 'It's Goin' Down' over 'Kenji,' the first time the song has been in a set since Linkin Park performed in Hungary in 2017! This show also featured the only performance - so far - of the live version of 'Good Goodbye,' presumably to bypass having to censor 'Bleed It Out' during the mashup. The crowd in Beijing was so amazing, they actually changed the sets after this show. Fans were singing Linkin Park songs for nearly an hour after Mike's set was over. Mike liked that so much, he dedicated a moment in the set for that at the next show in Shanghai, where he led the crowd in a 'Faint' acapella during the encore. In addition to this, the Shanghai show was packed full of awesome moments: Mike gave LPLive a shoutout during the extended piano intro of 'Ghosts,' and he rapped verse three of 'Until It Breaks' over the 'Kenji' intro. The 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup also returned here. Mike continued playing with the sets in the last Chinese show in Chengdu, dropping 'Kenji' but bringing back 'Crossing A Line,' which was absent from the last two shows. Though there was no surprise rap verse at this show, Mike led the crowd in a 'Waiting For The End' acapella after the mashup with 'Where'd You Go.' Watch Mike's full set from Shanghai earlier this tour. Despite censorship, this show is one of the best the tour has yet, with plenty of special moments throughout the entire show. We'll try to upload our source from Beijing soon, so be sure to subscribe to our LPLive Archive channel. From there, Mike headed to Japan for the very first shows he announced on the Post Traumatic Tour at the Summer Sonic festival. The first stop in Osaka was a different set from Incheon with the inclusion of 'Kenji,' a song of significant cultural importance to Mike's Japanese heritage. The set was a bit shorter than anticipated, with 'I.O.U.' having to be dropped last minute due to time. After his set, Mike returned to the stage to perform with ONE OK ROCK during their song 'One Way Ticket' from their latest album (Mike helped them produce this track), where he rapped part of 'Where'd You Go' before singing the rest of the song as is. The next night in Tokyo was entirely different, 'Petrified' opening the set for the first time on tour and 'When They Come For Me' being added in. The 'Waiting For The End' acapella also returned. Every show Mike has played has been different from the last, Mike truly making every show its own unique experience. We can expect that to be the same in Singapore. It's been a minute since Mike has been in Singapore. Linkin Park last performed there in 2011 as the last show of the A Thousand Suns World Tour. This was regarded as one of the band's most unique setlists, as they really changed things up. 'New Divide' opened the set with its Moscow Intro, only performed once before at the Transformers 3 Premiere in Moscow earlier that year. 'One Step Closer' was performed third, which was the first time the song had ever been in that position (a precedent that really became the norm in recent years). Linkin Park had only performed there two times prior: in 2004 towards the end of the Meteora Tour, where Yohan from the band Pia joined the band for 'One Step Closer,' and in 2007 on the Minutes To Midnight Tour, featuring a packed setlist that included 'The Little Things Give You Away' and 'In Pieces.' Singapore 2011 was the second and last time Linkin Park used the Moscow Intro for 'New Divide.' A rare and awesome moment for sure! Is anyone going to the show? It's the first show that is without any restrictions as far as time or censorship goes in quite some time, and is bound to take the tour off on a high note. Anything is game as far as that new acapella slot is part of the equation - we might be making a post soon about songs Linkin Park/Mike has never played to maybe remind Mike of some cool stuff he could put in there! Though this is the last show of the Asia Tour, Mike's not taking a break just yet. He's immediately heading over the Europe to kick off the European Leg of the tour, starting with three festival dates in France and England before headlining shows across the continent. After this tour wraps up, he'll have a month off before going across North America for the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour. We'll be keeping you updated on everything that happens at this show, so be be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! 12. Found a source for the show! Unfortunately a lot of missing (seems like the guy didn't film parts of certain songs) and it ends after 'Papercut,' but one big thing: It's Goin' Down verse 1 and partial verse 2 over the 'Kenji' intro. Watch it here. 17:40 for Kenji if you want to see it. Waiting a few days before we upload this to YouTube just to see if the guy uploads a second part to it.
  13. COMPLETELY different set here. Wow. 'Petrified' opener, WTCFM festival debut, WTFE acapella (exactly like the Faint acapella in Shanghai)... Mike is really having some fun with these sets. Great to see.
  14. Mike's return to Japan was a huge success, in many regards. He's playing the second night of the Summer Sonic festival on August 19 in Chiba, and there's plenty to look forward to! Mike's show in Osaka was full of interesting moments. Keeping up with tradition, Mike made sure these Summer Sonic shows were important. On top of being the very first shows announced on the Post Traumatic Tour, Mike made a statement during his set. 'Kenji,' a song written about his grandfather and family being forced into Japanese internment camps in Los Angeles during World War II, made its Japanese premiere, and the additional 'Hands Held High' verse during the extended intro added to its political message. It's almost like a moment of redemption for Mike, seeing him perform that track in Japan. This was also the first time 'Kenji' was performed during a shortened festival set (it was absent from all of the previous non-headlining festival shows). 'I.O.U.' was also set to make its festival debut but unfortunately had to be dropped due to time. Another awesome moment at Osaka: Mike joined ONE OK ROCK onstage! Mike came onstage to perform on the song 'One Way Ticket,' which he helped produce. He came out and rapped most of the first verse and part of the bridge of 'Where'd You Go' before just singing the song normally with Taka for the remainder of it. ONE OK ROCK are big fans and friends of Linkin Park - they were set to open part of the 2017 One More Light North American Tour as well as their following three shows in Japan later that year. Taka was an awesome guest at the Hollywood Bowl, his performance on 'Somewhere I Belong' being a fan-favorite. Following Chester's passing, ONE OK ROCK performed 'One More Light' during their set in dedication to him. Most recently, he joined Mike for his Identity LA performance earlier this year for the 'Where'd You Go' and 'Waiting For The End' mashup. ONE OK ROCK unfortunately isn't performing at the Tokyo festival, but that could mean a number of things (that we'll get to in just a bit)! Watch Mike perform with ONE OK ROCK during 'One Way Ticket' in Osaka! It's no surprise that these Summer Sonic festivals will be packed of special moments like that, as the festival's always been an important one for Linkin Park. Their iconic 2006 Tour was almost exclusively performed at this festival, which featured the world premiere of 'QWERTY,' the first confirmed performance of 'Reading My Eyes,' the live debuts of the piano versions of 'Pushing Me Away' and 'My December,' and, finally, marked the first shows where 'One Step Closer' didn't close a full set, instead having 'Breaking The Habit' close. In addition, Mike performed with Fort Minor earlier in the day pulling double-duty, with Chester joining him for 'Where'd You Go' because Skylar Grey (a.k.a. Holly Brook) couldn't make the trip last minute. They returned to the festival in 2009 while touring for 'New Divide,' where Dead By Sunrise performed a special set during Linkin Park's first encore. In 2013, Linkin Park delivered a huge show opening for Metallica, before Mike and Chester joined Steve Aoki later in the night for his set for the world premiere for 'A Light That Never Comes.' Great things happen at Summer Sonic, and Mike's carrying on the legacy! For this show, we have more potential for a different set. Mike's set is moved up because ONE OK ROCK isn't playing, which means he has a bit more set time. This should account for enough time to let 'I.O.U.' get performed (since it was dropped in Osaka due to time), and possibly another song. The 'Waiting For The End' and 'Where'd You Go' mashup wasn't played because Mike rapped 'Where'd You Go' with ONE OK ROCK, so that track has potential to come back. Any number of tracks could be subbed in, from 'When They Come For Me' and 'Sorry For Now' to 'Watching As I Fall' and 'Ghosts.' At the end of the day, it'll really just be whatever Mike wants to play that night! You can count on 'Kenji' being played, given its importance. Mike's kept the track record for differing setlists throughout this tour up, currently 7/7 on changing them up (even more if you go back to the start - when you get down to it, from when Mike started in May until now, he really hasn't played the same show twice). Will that continue here? Watch Chester perform 'Where'd You Go' with Fort Minor at Summer Sonic 2006! Is anyone going to the show? After this one, Mike has ONE show left on this run of Asian shows, wrapping up his Asia Tour in Singapore on August 22. That'll be the last headlining show for about a week, with Mike heading straight to Europe for festivals in France and England before embarking on some headlining shows throughout the continent. That tour wraps up when he opens up for Thirty Seconds To Mars in Italy, and then he's off for a month before returning for the extensive Monster Energy Outbreak Tour throughout North America in October. 15. You find lots of random stuff in these random decade-year old folders... Just wait until we find Mark's drug folder from 2006, then shit will really kick off
  16. Back to where it all began. Mike's bringing the Post Traumatic Tour to Japan for two shows at the Summer Sonic festival this weekend, the first being in Osaka. These Summer Sonic shows have been a long time coming - back when they were announced in January, they were the very first shows Mike announced on this tour. Before Identity LA and the KROQ Weenie Roast, we were all anxiously waiting for August to come, as we were all under the impression the tour would be starting here. Luckily, we've been treated to a great tour so far and things are only set to continue. This show follows the completion of Mike's run of Asian shows, and they proved to all be special. The first show in Beijing saw the introduction of the censored songs, with the live version of 'Good Goodbye' being performed for the first time on this tour in place of the mashup with 'Bleed It Out.' 'Crossing A Line' and 'Hands Held High' were both dropped from the set due to political and censorship laws. Mike continued to Shanghai, which is now the biggest show page in the Mike Shinoda section now, with an insane amount of cool stuff happening. Mike rapped the third verse of 'Until It Breaks' over the extended intro of 'Kenji' to replace the 'Hands Held High' verse, and led the crowd in a 'Faint' sing-a-long during the encore in response to the Beijing crowd's singing. In addition, Mike gave LPLive a shoutout during 'Ghosts!' He talked about how he was telling Dan and Matt about us, and when they found out we document all the little mistakes they make, they both said a resounding "Oh no." Don't worry boys, we don't bite. And you clearly haven't messed up as much as Joe messed up the 'Numb' intro. Or the 'Crawling' intro. Or the 'In The End' intro. Or any intro, for that matter. Anyway... Mike continued, saying how it shows how much we care about them and the live show, and even said it's one of the reasons he has fun playing shows and changing little things! We're glad to have made an impact on the live shows. Now don't mess up any intros. The tour ended in Chengdu, and, because there are pretty much ZERO videos from the show, we're not quite sure if anything particularly special happened. What we DO know is that 'Kenji' was dropped and 'Crossing A Line' was added back in. If you find any videos from Chengdu, let us know! While we have virtually zero videos from both Beijing and Chengdu, two full sources from Shanghai were uploaded to Youku. We've ripped one of them and uploaded it to our new YouTube channel - we'll upload the second one later tonight. More info on our new YouTube channel later in the post, but check out the full Shanghai show above. This isn't Mike's first time at Summer Sonic. Linkin Park has performed at the Summer Sonic a total of three times over the years. The first was the iconic 2006 Tour, the only true shows the band played in that two year period between the end of the Meteora cycle in 2004 and the release of Minutes To Midnight. These shows are well known for a number of reasons, particularly the world premieres of 'QWERTY' and 'Reading My Eyes.' Additionally, these were the first shows to not close with 'One Step Closer,' instead closing with 'Breaking The Habit.' The piano versions of 'My December' and 'Pushing Me Away' also debuted there. Mike performed with Fort Minor at these shows, as well, with Chester filling in for Skylar Grey who couldn't make it during 'Where'd You Go.' The band returned in 2009 while touring for 'New Divide,' where Dead By Sunrise performed for the first encore. The last time they were there was in 2013, performing before Metallica. These shows were shorter but still action packed - keeping up with the special moments at this festival, Mike and Chester joined Steve Aoki for the world premiere of 'A Light That Never Comes' during his set. The Summer Sonic Festivals have always been an awesome festival for the band, and we're sure the tradition will continue here. These shows are already known as the first shows Mike announced he would be playing, so they already hold an important part of LP history. Because Mike isn't headlining, we can probably expect a shorter show. Mike's only played one other festival show so far: the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival in South Korea. Despite being a shorter show, the setlist was full of energy; and we know this because we have both an awesome audio recording courtesy of NINLive and a full video recording that popped up a few days ago. While missing some big moments like 'Sorry For Now' and 'When They Come For Me,' tracks like 'Roads Untraveled' and the run of 'About You,' 'Over Again,' and 'Papercut' all made sure there were plenty of highlights. One interesting thing we'll have to watch out for is whether or not Mike plays 'Kenji' at these shows. The song has never been performed in Japan, and given it's ties to Mike's Japanese heritage, it seems like too perfect of an opportunity to pass up. Plus, it'd keep Mike's track record of playing a different set at every stop of this tour - and we're not kidding. Every show has been different in some respect. Will the streak continue? Watch Linkin Park perform 'QWERTY' at the Summer Sonic festival in 2006. Definitely some of the most iconic shows in Linkin Park history. Is anyone going to this show? It's definitely going to be a special one. Mike plays the second night of Summer Sonic the night after in Chiba and will then wrap up the Asian leg of this tour in Singapore on the 22nd. Mike then heads straight to Europe for another three festivals in France and England before going back into headline mode for the rest of the continent. After a month's break, Mike will be touring through North America. 17. In an interview recently, famous guitarist Slash (Guns N' Roses) revealed that for his 2010 solo album, he had collaborated with Chester for a song called 'Doctor Alibi.' According to Slash, the song was recorded, however Linkin Park's management at the time didn't allow for it to be released. Instead, 'Doctor Alibi' features the late Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. Slash explained: "But speaking of Chester [bennington], and I forgot all about this until just recently, when I was doing my first solo record, I worked with a lot of different people, some of whom, for whatever reason, didn’t end up on the record. One was with Chester. We did a song and Linkin Park at the time didn’t allow it to happen, so I did it with Lemmy [Kilmister]. The guy who engineered my demos sent it to me and I sent it to Chester’s family. But it was a trip cause the song [called “Doctor Alibi”] really speaks to his state of mind." He continued, explaining that he'd like to release the song with Chester's vocals, but it's up to his family now to decide: "His family has got it so it would be totally up to them. It was really good. He was awesome. It would be fine with me if they wanted to [release] it. Musically it’s basically the same as the Lemmy song, but the lyrics are really poignant." The lyrics of the song are very true to what Chester went through, and it'd certainly be a very cool yet powerful performance to hear. Would you like to hear 'Doctor Alibi' with Chester? Hopefully we'll be able to see the song get released soon. 'Doctor Alibi' was released on Slash's eponymous 2010 record. His upcoming record, featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, entitled Living The Dream, is out next month. 18. Some pretty big things we missed: LPLive shoutout before Ghosts! 'Ghosts' has had an extended intro this entire tour that we missed lol 'Until It Breaks' rapped over the Ext. Intro of 'Kenji' Short piano outro after WFTE/WYG (seems like a mistake Mike styled out) Mike forgot to censor himself during 'Bleed It Out' 'Faint' came after 'Petrified.' Inspired by the fans singing in Beijing, Mike wanted to include that in the show somehow EDIT: Found another source, further back but better quality overall. 19. Grab the spoons and forks, because the next stop on the Post Traumatic Tour is the home of my favorite Chinese place (shoutout Sichuan Cottage). Mike's next show is in Chengdu, China at the Chengdu Performing Arts Center on August 16, the sixth stop on the tour. You can put your pens and pencils down, because this is the first time Mike's ever been in Chengdu - he's never even been in the province! No history lesson today, so let's skip straight to the real meat: the current tour. These last couple of shows in China alone have been incredible, but this entire tour has been a blast to cover. Similar to Linkin Park's One More Light European Tour, Mike has currently placed a different set at every show of the tour so far. Whether it be big differences or small ones, each show has been unique. Hong Kong began the tour with a bumpy start, but nonetheless it debuted a bunch of changes to the set, including the full versions of 'Roads Untraveled' and 'When They Come For Me,' as well as new extensions for 'Kenji' and 'Place To Start.' It was also the debut of Mike's new band mates Dan Mayo and Matt Harris. Bangkok came next, the first show with no technical difficulties. Mike introduced 'Petrified' (as well as the 2015 Remix of 'Introduction') to open the encore at this show. Dan performed a drum solo over the extended bridge of 'Sorry For Now' in place of the demo verse, and 'Hands Held High' was added over the extended intro of 'Kenji.' Mike then played his first festival show of the tour in Incheon, delivering a short but powerful set. That brings us to these run of China shows. Despite the lack of footage from these shows (we've literally found videos of two full songs from the two shows, 'In The End' and 'Remember The Name'), we know that a lot has gone on. Beijing kicked it off with one of the biggest crowd receptions Mike has gotten, ever. Despite censored songs (and 'Crossing A Line' being dropped, because apparently the Chinese government doesn't want people crossing lines), the crowd sang loud and proud. Instead of censoring 'Bleed It Out,' he dropped the verse completely and instead played the live version of 'Good Goodbye' for the first time on tour! The fans in Beijing were incredible, staying at the venue for almost an hour singing Linkin Park songs even after Mike's set was done. The venue had to ask the crew to make the fans leave! That's something that really has never happened before. Fans at the next - and most recent - show in Shanghai didn't cause quite a commotion, but still met outside to sing 'One More Light' for Chester. This show's setlist was unique too, featuring the return of the 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup and an acapella of 'Faint' to open the encore. Mike walked out onstage to a crowd of people singing Linkin Park songs and decided to lead them in it, performing 'Faint' for the first time in a solo set and for the first time as an acapella. Mark wrote a great recap of the Chinese tour, so be sure to read that for a more in-depth look at what's been going on. Regardless of if he keeps this up, this tour has really kept us on our toes and has been a really incredible one so far. We'd, of course, love for more daily changes, but hey, who's really keeping track? (just kidding. we are. your move, Shinoda) Another part of the set that changes every night is the story Mike tells before 'In The End.' He always has a different anecdote, but he always ends up talking about Chester. Check out his speech from Hong Kong, where he speaks endearingly about his best friend. For this show, we don't quite know what to expect. We can count on a couple things: songs being censored (this includes 'Welcome,' 'Watching As I Fall,' 'When They Come For Me,' 'About You,' 'Over Again,' 'Make It Up As I Go,' 'Bleed It Out' (if it's performed), 'Petrified,' and 'Remember The Name') and no 'Crossing A Line,' because, y'know, lines are the enemy of communist regimes. We get it. The thing about the changes with the set is that they have genuinely come out of the blue. 'Petrified' popped out of nowhere, and we fully expected Mike to just censor 'Bleed It Out' instead of performing the live version of 'Good Goodbye.' Now that the 'Faint' acapella has happened, pretty much any song Mike's ever recorded is game too as a fun little moment. 'In Stereo' was included on a poll a few months back when Mike asked what songs fans wanted to hear on the tour. The other three songs have all been performed ('Roads Untraveled,' 'Sorry For Now,' and 'Petrified'), and considering that Mike's playing 'Petrified' completely by himself on stage, that slot could easily be anything from Mike's 2015 Fort Minor setlist. We'd say 'In Stereo' has an upper hand before the rest come, but fans have been adamant about hearing the 2015 remix of 'Cigarettes' at some point, as well as tracks like 'High Voltage.' Mike has said he could perform tracks like 'Battle Symphony' or 'Nobody Can Save Me' but said he'd probably get uncomfortable singing them every night simply because of their meaning, which is understandable. Regardless, they're on the table... as is pretty much everything else. Anyone heading to the show? Mike's officialy two-thirds of the way through the tour, with just 3 shows left: two in Japan for the Summer Sonic festival and one last Asian stop in Singapore. Mike heads straight to Europe afterwards, kicking his tour off there with a festival in France and then the Reading and Leeds festivals in England. From there on, it's mostly headlining shows across the country, stopping in Austria, Russia, Sweden, and Germany, ending it off opening for Thirty Seconds To Mars in Italy. After that, it's a one month break until an extensive tour across the United States. It may be a bit before you get to see Mike live depending on where you live, but to hold you over, check this out: the first audience recording from the tour, recorded in South Korea and the Pentaport Rock Festival! The quality is fantastic, and there are plenty of highlights even though it was a shorter festival set (listen to 'Papercut,' because goddamn did this song get a level up with a backing band now). 20. The Post Traumatic Tour is chugging ahead (though the trains in Beijing aren't)! Mike's tour in Asia has hit it's halfway point, the fifth stop taking Mike and co. to Shanghai, China, where they'll perform at the Jing'an Sports Center on August 14. Mike's no stranger to Shanghai - he's played more shows there than in any other city in China. Linkin Park has performed there three times in the past, the first being in 2007 on the Minutes To Midnight Tour. While a pretty standard show for the era, Mike listed it as being one of his favorite Linkin Park moments of that decade. In a blog post, he wrote: "Upon arrival in Shanghai, we knew the show was going to be special…but we had no idea. When we were met at the airport, our promotion and label staff informed us that the last two rock bands to play China at the time were Nine Inch Nails and The Rolling Stones. They told us the largest concert by a foreign rock artist was The Stones show, which was attended by roughly 12,000 people. We were about to play a show at Shanghai Stadium, which was easily two times that size." Read Mike's full post on the show page - you know any show guarded by police is bound to be an important one. The band returned in 2009 while promoting 'New Divide,' where they first faced censorship laws. In China, the government has strict censorship laws in place that require song lists to be submitted for approval. Because of this, 'Given Up' and 'Hands Held High' were not approved and had to be dropped. This led to a rare occurrence: 'From The Inside' opening the show (after 'Session')! The band were scheduled to return in 2011 on the A Thousand Suns Tour, but they were banned in China after meeting the Dalai Lama in early 2011. Things changed four years later, when Linkin Park embarked on a Chinese Tour in support of The Hunting Party, which was the first tour sponsored by Mercedes-AMG. This time, instead of dropping songs, they were just censored. This included 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name.' An interesting piece of information: the list of songs the band submitted to the government for approval leaked, featuring a bunch of interesting titles. Songs like 'A Place For My Head,' 'A Light That Never Comes,' and 'With You' that the band had played at some point on the cycle were on the list even though they weren't played. Also included was 'Keys To The Kingdom,' a song that never ended up being performed live, which means the band considered playing it at some point! Watch the opening song - 'One Step Closer' - from Shanghai 2007, what was the biggest rock show to ever take place in China at the time. A truly monumental moment for the band and rock music. Shanghai is the second stop in China on Mike's Asian Tour. The previous show was in Beijing, met by a truly incredible crowd. Not only were their cheers for Chester the loudest yet, but nearly a third of the fans stayed in the venue for almost an hour singing Linkin Park songs. The venue had to ask the crew to ask the fans to leave in the end! That's a true love for music (though we don't recommend you try to organize an event like that). Mike got by with the censorship, censoring 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name' in the same way he did in 2015, and 'When They Come For Me' in the same way they did in 2011 when they performed the song on Saturday Night Live. Other songs that got the censorship treatment include 'Watching As I Fall,' 'About You,' 'Over Again,' 'Make It Up As I Go,' and 'Petrified.' Mike pulled an awesome move by performing the live version of 'Good Goodbye' for the first time since 2017, instead of doing the mashup with 'Bleed It Out' (likely because of censorship concerns). It's an awesome thing to hear - hell, we'd even venture to say it's better than the mashup. Matt does an awesome job on the vocals! Censorship did come at a cost, though: 'Hands Held High' could not be performed over the extended intro of 'Kenji,' and, as mentioned before, the 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup can't be performed. Mike's handling it like a professional, though. 'Crossing A Line' appears to have been dropped for an unknown reason (it's unlikely it was dropped due to censorship), as well. We can probably expect a similar setlist at this show. Technically speaking, though, every show of the tour so far has had a different setlist in some capacity. Whether or not that continues is something we'll have to see! Mike has been giving really beautiful speeches before 'In The End' about Chester at every show. In Beijing, Mike talked about Xero, his Linkin Park bandmates, and, of course, Chester. He has something different to say at every show and it's beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. A beautiful talk with Mike here, as well as one of the loudest chants for Chester this tour has had yet. Is anyone going to the show? Updates are scarce because of the media bans placed in China, but we'll keep ya covered. After this show, Mike has one more show lined up in China in Chengdu before he heads to Japan for the Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo and Osaka before wrapping up the Asian leg of the tour in Singapore. From there, Mike heads straight to Europe for a handful of festival shows and headlining shows. Then there's a month's break before he embarks on an extensive North American Tour! We'll be covering all of it, so check back if you want the latest news. Check out the rest of Mike Shinoda's touring schedule here.
  21. Well if you look at past LP singles, they don't really go for the song that makes the most sense as a single sometimes. 'The Catalyst' and 'Guilty All The Same' certainly weren't the prime choices for their respective records but they captured something about the album that the band wanted to make listeners aware of. 'Crossing A Line' makes sense to me as least in the sense that Mike wanted to show this isn't an album about depression and pain, but the journey of moving forward. That's the purpose CAL serves both thematically and in placement on the album.
