This is the most random thing I have ever seen. -
Mike on Instagram Summary / Phoenix on 'One More Light'

A Thousand Suns was like that, meant to be a full story and they even released it as the ATS Experience (one file) on iTunes or whatever. That's a great album and sounds fantastic even in individual songs. I wish they would have continued that in 2011-2012 for another CD. Well Battle Symphony isn't a single but I understand what you're saying. I dislike both as well. If the music isn't for you on this album, the live shows will be good. I'm not sure how every single person can enjoy every single LP album because they are all so drastically different starting with MTM. Eventually you'll find one that you're like "WTF, this SUCKS!" and that's the current state of a lot of fans with OML's generic pop sound. However, I've seen a ton of Meteora/ATS hate over the years so now the situation is flipped He doesn't get it because these songs are super personal to them. They did the lyrics first, and that's why the music is suffering so greatly. There are plenty of bands who nail the pop stuff (Backstreet Boys, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift) but plenty who also suck at it (Maroon 5, Coldplay's latest album, etc). It really does have nothing to do with being different, I agree, because so many people do enjoy the shifts they take from album to album. In my opinion, it has everything to do with the music coming last and suffering greatly because of it. The shift in songwriting really takes a big toll here. They described the lyrics for MONTHS as being these super epic lyrics that have all this meaning and are so great.....LOL. Quite the opposite. Heavy is one of the most atrocious songs they have ever released. But it is personal to them, I'll give them that. However, it's still a desperately bad attempt at pop and they completely whiffed on it. That's just what I hear, I'm sure some people disagree. -
Mike and Chester are in Toronto, ON today for One More Light press. Heavy was performed at The Edge (video soon). We will keep you updated throughout the day with interviews and more. - Ten minute interview with iHeartRadio Canada, which can be viewed here. EDIT: Looks like Heavy was performed here as well. - Chester and Mike both have unruly kids, so at least one song is about telling their kids that there are reasons for rules and that they aren't trying to fight with their kids just to argue with them. - It's easier for Mike to make music first rather than to work on lyrics first. This was a challenging process for One More Light because lyrics are "elusive"..."that's a cool idea, but it isn't great." Lyrical ideas first were a struggle. - Mike wrote a song with Ross Golan. The initial lyric idea in the chorus before it changed was "I wish I was Christopher Walken" and the song ended up being "One More Light." - Chester initially wanted to have a lot of followers on Instagram without ever posting a photo, but Mark Fiore started posting pictures on it during a tour which ruined Chester's plan. - Fourteen minute interview with MUCH, watch here. - The band puts a lot of effort into each record, but Mike says there aren't that many artists that will work on an album from 12-18 months. It took that long to just get the 10 songs that made the album, but over 100 demos were made. - There is a lot of anticipation by the band in what they release, referencing Heavy and Battle Symphony's releases to the world/fans. - From Chester's experience, a lot of artists make just 12-20 demos and then narrow it down from there. If Linkin Park feels good about it, they'll keep writing as long as they're inspired and then they'll begin the process to narrow down the songs. - Around 50 songs in this process got lyrics and melodies and Chester said he could pick 10 of any of those 50 and be happy with the songs. But when the rest of the band looks at the songs, it becomes pretty obvious as a group which songs are the strongest once they vote on them. - The full band is very involved in the selection of the songs, for example Joe saying he doesn't like Rob's drums on a demo. With six members, it's hard to get all six members to like every part of every song. Mike makes large documents in his computer of all of the notes/comments by band members on each song. - Asked how the band's "journey" is represented in the new music, Chester said it was much harder to write songs in the beginning (Hybrid Theory). In most cases, the music would dictate the lyrics (punk song having aggressive lyrics, loud songs having screaming, etc). In this case for One More Light, they could enter the room with nothing and a few hours later come out with a full song. Sometimes just right in the middle of conversations about how they are dealing with (sometimes sad) things in life, Mike would start playing piano and ideas for verse, chorus, and bridge melodies and words would flow freely. They were able to record vocal ideas and lyrics the exact day the song was made, so it made the songs more emotional since Chester already knew the lyrics and meaning before he even came into the studio to lay down a track by reading it off a piece of paper. This is a much different process than before, where they'd come up with vocal and lyric ideas right in the middle of recording vocals. Starting the process this way made the songs have more meaning to the members in the band. - Sixteen minute interview with 102.1 the Edge, check that out here. Show page for Heavy (Performance video coming soon) - The band is always trying to find new ways to play music and experiment with new instruments and songwriting means. - Linkin Park is evolving as a band, but not specifically with "genre". Heavy is on a lot of alternative, pop, and chill playlists and the band makes fun of "Chill" not being a real genre. - Starting off, Mike made music because it was fun. When he was a teenager, he'd skip parties and movies to make music for fun instead of to like, get girls, be famous, etc. - Every artist has different reasons for making songs, like to approach it as "let's write this song because it's what's hot right now" or "it's a good song to get a sports endorsement." Linkin Park doesn't write songs for those reasons. - One More Light (song) is about "who cares if "one more light" goes out, one more person dies? I care." Once the band releases the songs, the fans then take the songs and it means things to them that it doesn't necessarily mean to the band...it's part of the process to connect with the music. - The band is putting together its North American Tour right now with dates and bands. - Linkin Park leaves on Wednesday for European promo for two weeks. - There is a fourth interview with Entertainment City and a fifth interview with KiSS 92.5, if anyone finds them let us know!

This is the best video by Linkin Park by far in a very long time.

Our friends at LP Fan Corner published their interview today with Rory Ross, Chester's body double in the Heavy music video. An excerpt... "LPFC: For the scenes that were aggressive and involved breaking things and trashing the set; how many times did they have to reset and take again? We never had to reset, we just slowly started breaking things and filming different angles until it climaxed with Chester throwing the lamp into the television. We switched a few times- from him sitting and taking the berating from me of how awesome they are and how great they did on the Transformers soundtrack along with flying plates and glass; to him yelling how adorable I was and throw plates and glass on the table [laughs]." Read the full interview here. This is a great read.

A friend talked to him but he didn't give an answer on if he has Rapology 12 or not.

For those of you who ordered Rapology 11, Lee says he think Joe did the artwork for that one. "Mike used to do art for me and Joseph was my assistant when I was doing the Rapology series. I helped get them together and would introduce them at clubs like the Troubadour, Whisky, and The Mint here in L.A. I believe Joe did the artwork for the Rapology 11 as well."

I was under the impression LP is editing Genius. They took it over for Heavy. I hate a lot of things LP does.

Today, Julien-K broke their silence and held a live chat and Q&A on their Facebook page. In the video, they discussed their plans for 2017 which include a U.S. summer tour and a release of a new album this fall entitled 'Harmonic Disruptor'. However, they have one other big release coming soon called the "Time Capsule", which will be another Indiegogo campaign like fans saw with California Noir. The Time Capsule will be a four disc compilation that looks back at Julien-K's entire career, encompassing every era of the band. It will feature both new and old songs, with tracks even from before the release of 'Death To Analog'...the very beginnings of Julien-K. Additionally, one disc of the four will contain live songs throughout their career with one full set from their Evanescence Tour in 2007. Another will have demos and rough mixes of songs. When mentioning surprises, they said that Chester has "ok'd" them releasing something with him on it, so he will be featured on at least one song. It is unknown if this will be a Dead By Sunrise track/demo/cover song or something else. There are definitely Dead By Sunrise demos in a vault somewhere along with an unreleased studio cover of 20 Eyes that was planned for a bonus track but didn't see the light of day. EDIT: Chester will feature on Time Capsule's third CD on live recordings of 'Palm Spring Reset' and 'I'll Try Not To Destroy You'. We will update you when the tracklisting for the Time Capsule release is out with a link to preorder it.

Probably will release Beijing 2015 or Berlin 2014.

We just got the full compilation, let me take a look at it and we can upload the non-album/non-official tracks today for everyone.

Chester joining Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp in April

According to Chester's Twitter, this whole event has been canceled. No surprise considering how outrageously expensive it was. -
The show was completely sold out, but the promoter just opened up two more sections of seats for fans. http://www.teleticket.com.pe/tlk_formularios/frm_DetalleEventoPrecio.aspx?ceven=Kwy63450l4A=

I need a few people to help me assemble a list of who to contact, if I blindly look for stores myself I'm not going to find them all.

I legit might get in trouble or something said to me if someone sees this but I can confirm absolutely that LP picked GATS, Catalyst, and Heavy. Beyond that, I don't know specifics but I have been told several times LP has full creative control over the singles and sometimes goes against the label's wishes for the selection of singles. That's interesting about Living Things. I don't know about Burn It Down, maybe WBR really pushed them to pick BID or something. If they do another listening party I think someone should ask it. Then again, WBR really wanted Final Masq first for THP and LP said nope it's going to be GATS.
-
Ok let me know when you're wrapping that part up and we'll move on to contacting record stores who might have stocked releases by The Urban Network, then we can look into the Rapology releases.

Just a joke that he listened to it on last.fm and then deleted his account

Yeah. That's also the MTM era, lol, where anything they made was pretty damn good by any standard. The videos and interviews done for this process, especially this super long FB live video where they announced LPU, made it sound like these lyrics were going to be super great. Better than any lyrics they've done before, because they sure talked like it. Maybe the best LP lyrics...like some WTCFM level type shit but applying it to a pop song and with Chester, not Mike. Instead, these are arguably quite weak.
