LP Scrapbook by Mike Shinoda & Megan Cable
hahninator replied to loulax07's topic in Everything Linkin Park
Yeah there are parts of this directly from LPLive, but circa 2010 before we changed the tour diaries and some other specific tour stuff. It was easy to identify. There are apparently several of these books in existence, so the actual items inside (Xero cover, magazine stuff, etc) are most likely copies. Can you confirm this? See if they're on like photo paper, regular paper, newspaper, etc and we can determine what is copied there or if that's original stuff. -

What I've Done doesn't work in piano form IMO. Chester sounds....really bad. -

Another tour sometime, he didn't specifically say for OML. But there aren't any UK or Russian shows on this tour, at least right now, so they have to come back. And especially to headline every German arena ever -

Heavy and Battle Symphony performance. Mike and Chester don't know if they're doing any headlining shows in Paris outside of Download and Hellfest. -
Phew that's 4 Toronto performances. I updated the 2017 page. http://lplive.net/shows/2017/ The correct order is: Edge, iHeartRadio, EntCity, and then KiSS FM.

What I've Done didn't really come off well. The others are fine. Maybe swap WID for BTH, which has been played in piano form already. -
No way they just do one arena show. Surely there is at least one or two more. I would think Russia. UK doesn't have any shows announced yet either.

Ok we're obviously slowly walking into a dead end here. We're going to need to compile a list of LA-area record stores and start emailing them.

Our friend Jonathan Schoenmaker has written a review about the Amsterdam event yesterday that we wanted to share! Here's what took place at the invite-only event... Q&A Show announcement: Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam 20th of June. LPU presale starts April 3rd Setlist: Burn It Down, Heavy, Crawling, What I've Done "Lets start off with the songs. The versions of the songs performed were the same as the livestream in the rehearsal studio, but there is something incredibly powerful about Chesters delivery that can not be fully experienced while watching a stream. The acoustic version of What Ive Done is something they Threw together that day and sounded pretty much like youd expect; Mike playing a piano lead while Chester throws on a delivery like theres 20.000 people in the room. All in all I think people who dislike Heavy might change their opinion after seeing it live in person. A few people I spoke to definitely seem to have done that." The Q&A was done by the audience and questions were chosen by who won the contest. Where did the inspiration for the new album cover come from? Mike: Frank (someone they always work an cover art with) was at the beach and just took that picture. I showed it to Brad and he was like Yeah this is a cool picture. At the time we werent thinking it was an album cover but when we showed it to everyone it appeared like the cover was there the whole time. Chester: I like the album cover because theres something so pure about the children and their innocence. Like that water could be cold as fuck but they wont care. Does the name One More Light mean it's the last Linkin Park album? Chester: No, quite the opposite. Its a more positive message - instead of saying the final one its really more of another one. Whats the funniest thing that happened during one of your shows? I can't put this one into words. Watch for yourself. How do you feel about fans hating on the new material? Both: We feel like every album we make is very polarizing. We figured out people either love or hate Linkin Park and that's fine. We have a lot of fans that stay true to us. Thank you for that. What needs to happen for you to stop being a band? Chester: I think its useless to think about that sort of stuff. Its the six of us and if it cant be the six of us for some reason then maybe its time. But its like the idea of a prenup. I dont like imagining everything that can go wrong. I rather live in the present. How do you see the future of rock/metal? Chester: Make music you want to make, everyone takes influences from each other but make sure you do it different and better. After the wrap up, a flag was given to the guys and they came down for a quick chat and some pictures. It was all in all a very intimate moment and I hope they will continue doing stuff like this. Thanks for reading! -Jonathan Schoenmaker

Josh Newell, an engineer that has worked with LP for several albums, recently sat down to answer questions about Linkin Park's recording process for One More Light, offering a glimpse into the working atmosphere and more for the album. A few highlights: "HOW COME IT TOOK SO LONG? I’ll be as concise as possible here: We entered the studio with a skeletal idea of what the band wanted to do and a few songs/demos. The band decided they wanted to work with various collaborators on this album. Schedules had to get worked out, and initially there was a lot of songwriting going on. Next, they started fleshing out the productions a bit and making decisions as to which direction to take each song. There were a LOT of songs written. After working on them all for a while, they’d narrow down to what they thought were the best songs (going from about 80 songs to 40 songs then to 20 songs, with around 10 finally making the album). Now you’re basically working on 40 songs, and they’re bringing in sonic collaborators to get some new ideas and sounds. Some parts work and others don’t. Those new parts inspire changes in the productions. And nothing about the sounds or production were off limits. Want to see what the track might sound like in a different key and tempo? It got tried. There are also six people in the band giving their input so there’s nor shortage of ideas. Vocals get cut, demo parts get replaced with keeper parts, structures change, and so on. Sometimes a song everyone liked would end up going off in a direction that people didn’t like so we’d walk it back to see what changes didn’t work. As that happened, the list of songs starts getting shorter and shorter as the stronger material becomes obvious, and then the band picked the top 15 or so for the album and finished those. It was a very meticulous process, to say the least. The album definitely wasn’t just thrown together." "PIGGY BACK ON THIS QUESTION, HOW DO YOU AND THE BAND KEEP FOCUS ON THE VISION OF THE ALBUM FOR THAT LONG? If I’m being completely honest, there were times that I had real trouble maintaining perspective on tracks. Since there were two engineers, sometimes we’d swap off tasks if one song in particular was being worked on for a few days straight. That seemed to help. Fortunately, I wasn’t the producer so the fact that sometimes I couldn’t tell if I liked a change better because it was actually better or just because it was new wasn’t an end-all, be-all. And I could be honest with the band about that when it came up. As for the band, different people in the band had different approaches. Overall as a band they would meet weekly to discuss the songs, and we’d keep a going DropBox of every version of the song (upwards of 20 versions for most songs) so it was possible for them to go back and reference what had been done. I do think the overall vision for the album changed a bit as it went along since the band didn’t come in with all of the material written and demoed." Read the full, in-depth interview here.

If you didn't win, just go to the venue and see if you can get in. No club tour. Mike and Chester are just doing a few dates across Europe. -
Just go to Melkweg and see what happens. That's a huge venue for just Mike and Chester to do some Q&A and stuff. Wonder if they'll play more than just Heavy. Best case, they let you in. Worst case, you just hear whatever they play from out front with friends, then go get dinner.

That's awesome. The trend lately has been if Linkin Park has a very successful show in a country, they return. Examples: Poland in 2012, then LP returned in 2014 to a HUGE show (and the band says one of their favorites in 2015), so they returned again in 2015 too, and now 2017. Italy in 2014 and they returned in 2015, and now 2017. Outside of the 9 German shows in 2014, I think Amsterdam is the only one that sold out completely (unless London N1 sold out). So I bet that is why they are going to Amsterdam for the first time to do promo this year, and they will probably include Amsterdam in the headlining arena tour for One More Light in Europe Keep selling the shows out and LP will return. Another one might be Belarus too since it sold out in 2015.
-
Nice. Hope you win. Have you seen them in Amsterdam before? Only 2 shows there ever right? I think a Q&A and Heavy performance. The same as Toronto.
-
Has to do with album sales, single promo, and more. There's a reason LP did so many shows in 2008 and 2010 in the UK but not as many in 2014. They play so many shows in Germany because they sold out 5 shows in 2010 and due to demand they had to add a 6th. And in 2014 they sold out 9 shows. The UK had more shows booked in 2012 as did Germany but the tour didn't end up happening. I bet LP returns to Brazil and South America (especially Peru) in 2018. Areas they likely will hit pretty hard this cycle (2x): Germany South America China

Chester and Phoenix recently did two "Ask Anything" chats, which are available to view below. Both were filmed at Third Encore in Burbank where Linkin Park rehearses. Sixx Sense: - Heavy is about times in Chester's life where he feels stuck and things keep happening over and over. A lot of those are self-imposed so it's the moment of recognizing that that's the issue and you can do something about it and move on. They tried to convey this idea in the music video. - Chester has not only seen Motley Crue, but he performed on stage with them in Nashville (Home Sweet Home). He saw them play at Desert Sky Pavilion in Phoenix on the Dr. Feelgood tour. Also, STP opened for Motley Crue in 2013 which Chester recalls. - Phoenix says the plan is for Linkin Park to perform in Russia soon. Chester talks about the epic flashmobs in Russia, because they don't really like flashmobs but the Russian ones were amazing. - The most emotional song for both Chester and Phoenix on the album is the song One More Light. Just doing press interviews about the album makes them emotional talking about the song. Phoenix specifically related to the song because his mom passed away in the past decade. - Both Chester and Phoenix are very busy with their kids and housework when they aren't on tour. - Every album cycle, the band gets a box of CDs, pictures, and items like drumsticks that they can give to friends. Chester usually saves them to sign for something like a kid that does a bunch of community service, etc. On Air with Mario Lopez: - The band decided when working with Julia Michaels that they wanted to bring in a female guest. Julia sounded good on the track but wasn't ready at that time to be a featured guest on a big song. Mike played new music for Zane Lowe and asked him if he knew any female singers that would be a good guest on the track. Zane introduced him to Kiiara, who had mentioned Linkin Park in an interview around that time. - Linkin Park is planning a North American tour this year for August and September. - The band is not as interested in making songs like Hybrid Theory and Meteora because when writing music, they gravitate towards new sounds and styles to keep it fresh and exciting. Chester relates it to vacationing in the same hotel room in the same city forever....it becomes boring. - Linkin Park has always been really open and respectful to what each member has to say about things going on in the band (music, etc). Some bands have a hard time with this and it comes down to the personalities of each member in the band. Communication is a big challenge for lots of bands but Linkin Park has no trouble with it. Romeo - In the video for 'Heavy', a body double, named Rory, was used to emulate Chester fighting with himself. Chester asked Rory to really hit him and throw him around, and each scene was filmed twice with Chester on both the giving and receiving end of the attack. Chester had a few bumps and bruises afterwards and thinks he may have actually hit Rory in the face while shooting. - Chester still loves Hybrid Theory and the band's older material, stating that he feels they always release the best music they are capable of making at the time. Phoenix admires a lot of the old material because of Mike's talent at producing the tracks with limited tools. - Interacting with fans online has always been a core component of the band's success and it allows them easy access to people who enjoy the band's music. Phoenix primarily writes music to please himself first and hopes that others enjoy it, too. One of the aspects Chester find most rewarding of connecting with fans is watching them grow up with them, becoming adults, getting married, and having kids. - Linkin Park is planning on going back to Australia, but when it is going to be is still undetermined. - Phoenix goes on fan sites to help him remember what shows the band has played before - The band doesn't set out to teach any kind of lesson or preach anything, it just sort of comes out when writing. Starting with lyrics and melodies, especially, helped everyone involved really relate and find common ground. Chester mentioned that, if there's anything to take away from the album, it's that there is always hope. - One of the ideas the band has been kicking around is playing the songs from One More Light in a more stripped down manner. - To get a tour underway, the band goes to the "professionals" and says they want to play some shows, and they organize everything and present the potential schedule to the band, which they then either agree to or suggest changes be made. Phoenix says they have never said specifically "I really want to go play in this specific location". They do, however, try and book shows in places they have never gone to before, like Peru.
