  1. How could One More Light be one of the worst songs LP has written? That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard.
  2. They are in the process of booking the solo shows now. Festivals were booked months ago.
  3. He certainly doesn't want to do it, look at the way he speaks on it and his body language. Looks like someone else suggested it to him and he was like ehhhhhhh.
  4. I like the song. He is able to do so many different styles of music, this is almost like a trap sound or something. It isn't my favorite but it's cool to see the variety. The topic of the song is pretty depressing.
  5. In talking with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 today for the debut of his solo song "About You", Mike was asked about Linkin Park. The full clip can be seen here. Zane Lowe: "Are you going to play some Linkin Park songs in the live shows as well, and maybe some Fort Minor things?" Mike: "You know, originally I was saying that I wasn't going to be doing much of that because I don't want to confuse people across the streams. "Is this supposed to be a Linkin Park show or a Mike Shinoda show or what?" But the more I talked to people they were kind of like, "you know if I came to a show by you and didn't hear some Linkin Park stuff, I'd be pissed at you." Look I could do like... there is a universe of possibilities. I could do covers but why would I do covers if I could perform songs I wrote and performed vocals on?" (Mike launched a setlist poll earlier this month to choose between "Roads Untraveled", "Petrified", "In Stereo", or "Sorry For Now", so there is a likely chance at least one Linkin Park song makes it into his live show.) Zane Lowe: "Have you discussed with your friends what the future of the bands feels like?" Mike: "Yeah we talk. I get texts and calls from the guys, and emails and stuff from everybody every couple of days or so." Zane Lowe: "Do you think you'll carry on? Have you had a discussion as honest as that?" Mike: "We have a lot of questions to answer in terms of how to do that. It'd be one thing to just say "let's go in the studio and write some new stuff", that's just the easiest thing in the world - yeah we can do that. But what happens after that? That's the big question mark. I don't want to get out on stage...and if it's just the five of us how are we going to play "One Step Closer"? There are certain songs that the fans are going to want to hear and I am going to want to play, and I don't know how to do that. And some people say just bring someone else in. Yeah that is a nice idea, but there is a lot to that. It's more than just the voice, which number one, nobody has a voice like Chester's so that's a huge hurdle. And maybe t's not A person, maybe it's a combination of things. And that's just me talking. If you talk to Dave, Rob, Brad, or Joe you probably get other ideas. The other part of it is you have to like go on tour with the person. What if they're just a shitty person? My gut tells me that by doing this solo record, by being out there, out on festivals, out on shows, you're in the world... it affords me a greater chance that I will figure those things out naturally."
  6. New song tomorrow on Beats 1, 9am PST/12pm EST.
  7. We had this topic already in Newswire but there is a convo in the new thread as well, so I just merged the two together.
  8. Wow. He's done two shows before with FM/LP in 2006 x4 and 2015 x1 so I guess I'm not too surprised but to start the whole solo thing off that way is wild.
  9. Usually six is way too many but this is a completely different set of circumstances. The EP counts for three of those. Album is 16 songs. Without the EP tracks its 13. We have a single, a bonus track with the single, and now another one coming. After this, it'll be too many yeah. But 3 of 13 seems ok. Still double digits new songs that we haven't heard yet.
  10. Don Gilmore said Chester wrote a significant amount of Hybrid Theory, much more than he wrote on Meteora. Meteora is where Mike took over for the core LP songwriting but Don said Hybrid Theory was a Chester concoction.
  11. Today, Mike went live on Instagram (which you can still see on his feed) to discuss the new Post Traumatic merch. He even called Frank Maddocks, who was at the gym when he answered, to discuss some of the new items he has for sale in the store. Mike personally oversaw all of the items being created and said he is very proud of the merch being released. In regards to the album, he said he is wrapping up Post Traumatic and putting "the finishing touches on it." At the end of the stream, he teased a brand new song that he said was being released soon. The song features rapping alongside what sounds like a guest feature chorus. The vocals being repeated in the track are "all of a sudden it's about you now, ohh, even when it's not about you, about you". The track, possibly titled "About You", will apparently be released sometime in the coming days. In an Instagram post yesterday, Mike said, "This is Aaron. We made the video for “Crossing A Line” together. This is a photo of us finishing a new video. #PostTraumatic" And finally, in his Weibo live chat in China recently, he commented that he shot parts of a new music video in China. All in all, we should have new music shortly in the form of a sixth pre-release track!
  12. Not a big fan of the merch sadly. Would like to see less stuff with Mike's face and more stuff with "Post Traumatic" + the artwork. Frank, however, is great and he didn't do a bad job here by any means. Just isn't my style, but it's still good.
  13. I voted Sorry For Now. I am kind of conflicted because it would be a little weird if he debuted a Linkin Park core album song live in his solo set before LP played it. But hell, we are in uncharted territory here. I hope this means he'd consider playing both Roads Untraveled and Sorry For Now in an LP set in the future, because both are fantastic tracks and Mike can sing those. It's like Burning In The Skies and Iridescent - Mike can perform those in an LP set in the future no problem. That's already 4 tracks if he'd be down for it. Roads Untraveled was a big highlight for me at the Hollywood Bowl and part of that was due to Rob's drumming which stood out to me. I think that song would inevitably be better with a full band behind it. Sorry For Now, while it hasn't been played, has a big ass pop production to it and the drops would be sick with the production he says he wants to do on this Post Traumatic tour. So Sorry For Now gets my pick even though LP hasn't played it yet. I also hope he considers keeping High Voltage's Raid Remix from 2015 because it was only performed a few times and that shit went off. I know the sets will be hard to pick songs for (Cigarettes, Kenji, etc). Looking For An Answer is another one that'd be good to see live. As I type my reply I can see already how many songs LP can perform in their sets when they come back. It's much more than we think, before any new recorded music that they might have.
  14. Similarly to what he did for the Fort Minor 2015 shows and again with Linkin Park in 2017, Mike has launched a poll on Twitter to add a song to the setlists for his upcoming shows. This is also an idea that he floated in 2010 about what songs Linkin Park should perform on the A Thousand Suns World Tour. In 2015, High Voltage came away victorious after battling Right Now, Red To Black, Second To None, and Step Up. In 2017, both A Place For My Head and From The Inside were on the poll... and LP ended up performing both. The current poll says: "I'm starting to put together a set for future shows, and there might be a open slot for a song. Which should I add?" - Petrified - Roads Untraveled - In Stereo - Sorry For Now Petrified and In Stereo have been performed at every Fort Minor show 2005-2006 and 2015. Roads Untraveled was debuted at the Linkin Park Hollywood Bowl show and Sorry For Now has yet to be performed in any form. Right now, both Linkin Park songs are leading the poll significantly with Roads Untraveled taking the lead and Sorry For Now following right behind it. Mike in recent interviews said he would perform limited Linkin Park songs, if any at all, in the live show. If one of these LP songs win, we can at least guarantee one LP song making the cut. Mike's first solo show is approaching rapidly, on May 12th in Los Angeles, so he is inevitably planning the setlist right now and preparing the new live show. So far, seven shows have been announced and Mike said more shows are on the way (including a hopeful date in China). What song did you vote for?
  15. It might be the best performance of The Messenger, or one of the best. That one is phenomenal.
  16. It was just in a folder on the DVD, found by opening the DVD on your computer.
  17. Festivals I could see: Crossing a Line, Over Again, Remember the Name, Where'd You Go, Welcome, and more solo songs. Three Fort Minor songs. Maybe Enth E Nd by LP.
  18. I think he will do as much as possible in the next 12 months because I think Linkin Park will be ready to start up in 2019. Maybe Mike makes two trips to Europe - one for festivals (with maybe an exclusive German club show or something) and one for club headlining shows (or whatever venues they book for him).
  19. Aaand I'd be pretty pissed. Up to you, but I'd get a refund and send it back as the sole reason I'd buy that is to get the samples. Wow. My stuff arrived today, need to unpack it from the actual boxes. Some (unused) samplers with no samples. I got one LP/30STM VIP pass and one "LP Everything Else" backstage sign.
  20. Today, Mike called in to radio stations across America in Chicago, Philadelphia, etc to discuss Post Traumatic and more. Check below for a recap of the interviews he did. The recaps get shorter as they go on because Mike repeats a lot of the general information in each. 101WKQX -Didn’t want to leave his house or see anyone in the months afterwards. -Making music and art is what got him out of that place. -"I was messing around making music, and the first thing I really made that was actual music was a few weeks later and was called “Looking For An Answer”". “It was mostly junk in the beginning but at a certain point I hit a bunch of songs that were true to where I was at and what I was going through. More time that passed, I came out of that dark place so the music followed too.” -”Crossing a Line” was written at a time where something positive was happening by getting out into the world again. -Didn’t want to “betray” LP by releasing new music but the band was very supportive. -LP fans don’t know what to expect when a record comes out. Lots of style changes. -The label probably thought they were signing another “rap/rock” band (which was big at the time) but LP didn’t care about staying with that specific genre, they wanted to constantly evolve. -There is a difference between what is out already (five songs) and what is about to come out on Post Traumatic is - as time has gone on and Mike has wrapped his head around the world with Chester not in it, different songs have come out of that and the newer songs are not all dark. -”We will never forget Chester” “I spent the greater portion of my adult life with him. He was an absolute legend, he was one of the best rock singers of all time. There’s no voice like his voice. Even when we did the Hollywood Bowl show… I like a lot of the covers but they don’t sound like him.” -More Post Traumatic shows are coming. Radio 104.5 -”When I first starting making the music, it was to just get it out of my system. Then I thought ‘what was the best way to communicate this music?’ Should I give them away and let the closest fans know how I feel and where I’m at? Then I realized it was a journey that really doesn’t have an end that is coming out of the darkness.” -Fans were constantly reaching out to the band and to Talinda/Chester’s family. Mike loved all the murals, the tributes, the concerts, etc. “The community is very connected and it is very important.” -”The Post Traumatic artwork is all ten or twelve paintings I did since July. Frank Maddocks and I created a lot of the packaging together.” Mike has been very involved with LP’s art since day one. -Mike loved the April Fools flannel joke by LPA. Alt 92.1 -First real song written after 7/20 was "Looking For An Answer." -”A normal version of my professional life is to release music, playing shows, being on the radio, etc so to get back to some sense of that is helping me in this journey” -He loves the work Talinda has done with 320 Changes Direction, treating your mental health as seriously as your physical health. -He was messaging a student from Parkland and realized there was a relation there between both the student and Mike experiencing recent loss in life. -“I feel like I have a little bit of a responsibility to let the fans who have had our back since day one know how I’m doing.” -Still finishing the album and doing videos, hopes to have some USA dates sorted out when he’s done with that. Stay tuned for more press in the coming weeks.
  21. I mean if he says Chester is on it, he's on it because he recorded the song with them lol. The leaked one seems to be just Mike, I agree. However, I think it's a bit pretentious for anyone to sit here and say it's a sign of respect to not release it. The song was completed years ago, it isn't in a state of unfinished business. It's like basically saying Chester wouldn't want it to be released. How would you know that? Doesn't really matter to me either way since we have the leaked version, but maybe we will see this someday.
