On the 10th, Linkin Park plays their 10th (how appropriate) show of the 2012 Summer European Tour in Moscow, Russia for Maxidrom. This show takes place at the Tushino Airfield, where the famous Monsters of Rock show took place in 1991 that included AC/DC (headlining), Metallica, The Black Crowes, E.S.T., and Pantera. At least 600,000 people with estimates of over a million were in attendance and over 35,000 soldiers/police were there. Helicopters too! No one really knows how many people showed up since it was a totally free show. Many in the crowd were beaten by the soldiers, which the bands didn't know about until afterward. For more information about that show, AC/DC Zone has a good writeup. So this is one of the more interesting venues for Linkin Park to play at.

I know this is not a Metallica website but I thought I'd add this video for you all to check out of 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica from that show since it's pretty hard to believe the size of the crowd even from this video. Surely this has to be one of the largest crowds in live music history.

Russia is actually building a new arena on the grounds of the Tushino Airfield called Spartak Stadium, due to be finished this year, with a capacity for 42,000 people so it wouldn't surprise me if Linkin Park played there sometime in the future when they return to Russia. The 2018 World Cup will be played at the new venue.

Anyway, this is the band's second appearance in two years in Moscow. The only other city on the 2012 Summer European Tour that the band played in 2011 was Nickesldorf for NovaRock. In 2007, LP played Russia for the first time, playing St. Petersburg (show page here) for the Tuborg Greenfest and Moscow (show page here) on their European Tour. In 2009, they returned to St. Petersburg (show page here) for the Greenfest again and in 2011 as we all know, they played the Transformers 3 Premiere at Red Square (show page here) so this will be the fifth LP performance in Russia and the third in Moscow. Last year, you might remember fans

with signs of "WISDOM", "JUSTICE", AND "LOVE" during 'Wisdom, Justice, & Love".

At the last show in Warsaw on the 9th (show page here), LP played their festival setlist which is the one that starts with 'A Place For My Head'. We should expect the same setlist in Moscow. Here's a pretty good video of 'Runaway' from the show in Warsaw:

From what I can tell on the official festival website, The Rasmus, Clawfinger, Therapy?, Biting Elbows, and some Russian band (name, anyone?) play before Linkin Park. Who from LPLive is going to this show? M&G for anyone?

After this, only two shows remain on the tour - Odesa, Ukraine on the 12th, where we should see the festival setlist again, and a headlining show in St. Petersburg on the 14th, where we should see the headlining setlist (the one that opens with 'TINFOIL'). i think it's not always about a band that performs on a show, it's just that back in the 90's russian crowd was always absolutely crazy about any band. and now when these shows are a common thing people are not as excited as they were back then.

take a look at the prodigy's show in moscow in 1997

now that was a fucking sick crowd.

That Metallica crowd is fucking insane. I doubt LP will ever play for a crowd that big... Maybe though. I think this show will be really cool. I thought the show last year was awesome.

Live 8 will probably go down as the biggest crowd LP ever plays for - estimates for the Philly show are between 1 and 1.5 million people attending the show at some point throughout the day, with over half a million being present on average at any given time.

had no idea this was being played at the Monsters of Rock venue.

man, I've watched those videos of Pantera playing there when they were an itty bitty band and Phil wasn't the methadone mess he shortly became... back in the day eh?

this has got a nice panning shot of the whole crowd for Pantera, who were JUST THE FIRST BAND ON...

enjoy, russian fans!

wtf was that ? i was checking the past week lp.ru and i saw this papers with Chester is Sex and with the band members names but is really wierd.

Btw the Setlist is confirmed ?

about the flashmob, come on you guys, people were just havng fun. besides it's a reference to an lpu tv episode where pheonix was reading writings from the billboard of lp show in moscow 2007. afterwards mike remembered that billboard in a couple of interviews even years after. its photo emerged in some lp's book, i think it was one of those shinoda's glorious excess things. and if you think those signs didn't make sense for them, you're wrong, guys from bazinga!.com refreshed their memory on the meet&greet session.

That's actually just pretty stupid and shows the level of most Russian fans.

But in a country where site as bazinga! claims to be the leading fan-site...

If someone thinks that all our flashmobs were bad, I HIGHLY recommend to watch this YouTube channel and reaction of the band:

From The Inside + troll flashmob

Catalyst + balloon flashmob

Burn It Down + 'fire' flashmob

After all, we don't care about YOUR opinion, we care about BAND''s opinion!

And it's funny to read it from the people, who NEVER did ANY flashmob for them before. Speaking of level of fans...
