colinreid Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Click to watch the new LPTV of Linkin Park rehearsing 'Iridescent' before the European Tour this summer. After watching this you can probably understand why the remix was only played once live! Thoughts? Do you like the remix or the album version better? It seems the general consensus is the album version so far from what we've seen on Facebook and Twitter so it looks like Phoenix has a point! Also, we thought we'd remind you that new Linkin Park pictures on their Instagram account will now be posted on their new Tumblr site here. Edited June 30, 2011 by Hahninator Quote
deanowardust Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Phoenix seems very anti commercialism from what i've seen in meeting of a thoshand suns and this. This seems to cause tension that makes me cringe a little bit. Quote

I'm glad he's constantly getting on the band and making sure that they're keeping the art form of the music as the #1 priority. Besides most of the fans agree that they would much rather see the album version of Iridescent live. Quote
MONDREUS240 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Lol @ the poll. Remix version is definitely going to win Quote
danielpsoad-09 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 The album version is by far better than the remix. They should've never made that remix. They just killed what's so great of the song. Quote
Doris The Spider Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I kind of agree with Phoenix on this. Quote

I don't even see why the remix was made for Transformers/radio lol. I think the song is fine like it is. I could understand a remix on an LPU CD since it's something we don't have and it destroys having another live song but for a radio edit or for a promotion of a movie....eh. Quote
sublimeric Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I prefer the original but don't really care for either version. My biggest issue with the Iridescent remix is that it's not a *GOOD* remix. It sounds like something you could make in 20 minutes with a free audio editor. On the bright side, it's cool that they performed it on TV, so we at least have it. I would have preferred that they do the intro piano chords, then go directly into "QWERTY", but that's just me. :-p Quote
JozM Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Love the album version, don't like the remix at all. Cutting out the gang vocals just doesn't seem right. Quote
sharwood1 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Well im the only one that voted for the remix version :/ Quote

Actually, I rather not hear it being called a remix. It's a radio edit. Designed to fit between the other pop songs on the radio, where song before it might have been some upbeat thing. The effect is lost with the song just being on the radio, not that I think the edit saves it much. Mainstream radio prefers songs to be kept short as possible. They don't want people to touch the dial. Quote
Geki Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Not much of a fan of Iridescent in general, but I'd have to go with the album version because the 'energy up' version seems to lack the energy that the album version has, and it's better to just play the full song IMO. Although I like how they played the TF3 Remix for the premiere show, that was acceptable and cool. Quote
Pez Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Im glad Phoenix stands by his point. Yes they should do it for the TV specials and what not for movie promotion but not replace the original in the live set. He also said something along those lines in the ATS making of DVD where they were talking about song structure I think. Correct me if Im wrong. Quote
Braininator Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 No question that radio edits of songs are required to fulfil commercial constraints. Where LP has gone wrong is how they've edited the songs (The Catalyst/Iridescent). I just feel they could have made some better choices in the editing, while keeping to the same time restrictions. Yeah I agree with you Pez, in the DVD he does talk about it doesnt make sense to him making a 3 minute version of a certain song, must have been on about this, as he really doesnt seem to like the thought of playing the radio version at the live shows. Enthouse Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 He also said something along those lines in the ATS making of DVD where they were talking about song structure I think. Correct me if Im wrong. Yeah, he says something about how the usual verse-chorus-verse-chorus song structure shouldn't be something they have to abide by when writing... or something along those lines. And I suppose this means they won't be playing the edited version too often. Quote
LinkinParkForever275 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Album Version > Transformers 3 Version Quote
LinkinElla Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 They should go with the album version. In the beginning didn't they want to write a fresh song? Well the album version is fresh but the remix just sounds normal. Quote
ivan_astahov27 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Remix version is GREAT to see live... after WJL first hits of the drums - it's like heart-stop for a split second. Even w/out 3rd, 'gang' chorus, it sounds GREAT, whatever you can say. You just didn't feel it live. But It will be better for everybody that this version will stay very special for TF premiere (maybe just like Moscow intro - I guess, they will not repeat it everywhere else, because of name) Quote
