hahninator Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Last Friday, Chester was at Club Nokia in LA attending the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert honoring Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode singer) & Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour founder). Comedian Greg Behrendt introduced Chester, who sang "The Messenger"! Check out the videos for it below. What do you guys think? Quote
Pez Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Just saw this on youtube. Amazing. Reminds me of him at the summit. He has such a great touch on the song. Quote
hitamonkey Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 yeh i love it! reminds me of the summit too, very intimate, soft voiuce. still think it works a lot better with the kind of roughness he has in his voice in the studio version though! just his voice can give a completely different feeling to the song i think... This song is better without the roughness of the studio version and previous live versions. It sounds way better this way. Just my opinion, but in the previous live versions it just didnt sound right when he sings 'Love keeps us kind'. Quote
AParallelogramInTheSand Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 grrr, I posted this in the Shoutbox last night, didn't think much of it other than it being cool.... Quote
Sucre06 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 It's the best performance of the song The messenger by Chester Bennington's * no doubt ... Quote
DecanoLP Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Ah, that's such a good performance. I really like the speech before as well. Quote
gottsu Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Such performance of this song is IMO the pros and cons: pros: - sang differently than on the album (perhaps in concert and LPU summits sings as this short movie , first heard this song live ), but a little hmm ... to be boring? Cons: maybe too much I'm used to the album version of Messenger, but few times, i missed his screaming Quote

Astat Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Okay...the studio version of this song is in G, Linkin Park's live version is in Eb, Chester did it in D at the Australian LPU Summit, and now this version is in C. Holy key change overload, Batman! I wish Chester would find one key for this song that works best for him, and stick with it. Quote
SergSlim Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Holy key change overload, Batman! Oh, now he will come for you, for calling his name out loud in the forums!!! Quote
AParallelogramInTheSand Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Oh, now he will come for you, for calling his name out loud in the forums!!! You can say Batman, you can't say Candleja-oh shit! Quote
JozM Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I have always preferred the live version of The Messenger to the album one. Don't know why but Chester's voice sounds some what strained on the album. Quote
