LPLStaff Posted May 13 Posted May 13 In a new interview with Billboard, the band discusses "Let You Fade" and more about the From Zero (Deluxe Edition) out this week. Shinoda said LP wrote “Up From the Bottom” at the end of last year and though it was the last new song they laid down for the deluxe, it was the quickest one to wrap. “It’s kind of fun having that shorter momentum,” he said, noting that typically the band is “so meticulous” that it was a breath of fresh air to turn something so quickly. He also said that “Let You Fade” started off as a not-as-loud song on a demo that just didn’t make the cut before the group pivoted to a piano-and-vocals only arrangement that was transformed into a song that starts off really loud and goes quiet on the bridge. “That piano and vocal thing was the second demo [we recorded during the initial sessions],” Shinoda said. “Of the three it’s probably my favorite.” The expanded album will also feature the new song “Unshatter,” a track Shinoda said LP began working on when they were first just getting to know Armstrong. NJPLP Posted May 13 Posted May 13 (edited) Since there's this topic now, I guess I'll share the lyrics now (of what I could understand): Spoiler [Verse 1: Mike Shinoda] I’m supposed to be running, I’m just catching my breath Saying congratulations, terrified of what’s next Everything is exploding, twenty hours, no sleep Three o’ clock in the morning, lying there in the street [Pre-Chorus: Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong] Breaking our backs for a pile of sand Just to have it all falling out of our hands Maybe it all gets lost in the end [Chorus: Emily Armstrong & Mike Shinoda] But I’ll remember you No matter where our ways may take us to And even when the memories slip away Time will test you, I won’t let you fade [Verse 2: Mike Shinoda] This is supposed to feel different, why do I feel the same? Tryna get with the [?] (river?), I’m all over the place And the voices in my head say that what was next might just be the last We don’t want to admit that we are never going back [?] the distance, from the present to the past And don’t know how we went from where we’re at [Pre-Chorus: Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong] Breaking our backs for a pile of sand Just to have it all falling out of our hands Maybe it all gets lost in the end [Chorus: Emily Armstrong & Mike Shinoda] But I’ll remember you No matter where our ways may take us to And even when the memories slip away [Post Chorus: Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong] Breaking our backs for a pile of sand Just to have it all falling out of our hands Maybe it all gets lost in the end [Bridge: Mike Shinoda, Emily Armstrong, Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong] I know I’m the one that you wanna forget But I’ll remember you No matter where our ways may take us to And even when the memories slip away Time will test you (Time will test you) Time will test you, I won’t let you fade [Outro: Emily Armstrong & Mike Shinoda, Mike Shinoda] I won’t let you fade I won’t let you-u-u fade What was next might just be the last We don’t want to admit that we are never going back (I won’t let you fade) [?] in the distance, from the present to the past And don’t know how we went from where we’re at (I won’t let you) Edited May 13 by NJPLP Quote

As for the song... well I was hoping that after 'Unshatter' it can only be better and yeah 'Let You Fade' is the best from all 3 I already listened to it two times more - 12 (since i was leaving the 'Unshatter' with just 6). It's really great song, I can't wait for the live performance of this one! Quote

I still can't figure out those two lines in the 2nd verse, though. Even when I slow the song down, I can't completely tell what he's saying during those lines (the ones with the "[?]"). Quote
GreyFox-AFCA Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Those lyrics sound very heavy. Very anxtious to hear the full song. Quote

DaweLP1 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Wow, absolutely unique song and its a banger, love the dynamic of it, I still like Unshatter bit more, but can imagine this one will be favorite from deluxe edition for many people. We got “only” 3 new songs with deluxe edition but they are extremly strong. Quote
Hybrider Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I fucking LOVE this song. Holy shit!! Imagine Chester instead of Emily. His angry voice would sound like in Somewhere I Belong in this song. Quote

I don’t know, love UFTB and Unshatter but not feeling this one yet. It’s very different, instead of feeling like a LP track it gives me massive Blink-182 vibe, so kinda get why it didn’t make it to the main tracklist. Either way I’m happy it’s the only track that I just can’t vibe with. The other full songs from FZ are all bangers to me, love this album! Quote

I hated it after first listen but clicked in second. Guitars reminds me Deftones in general vibe. Generaly I don't like when LP use only guitars and piano as instrumental but lack of electronic elements work this time. Instrumental is huge. Edited May 14 by MMM Quote
NimaLP Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I like this one 'cause its song structure and vibe is different yet still has a nice heaviness to it, both emotionally and musically. Quote
KeysToTheLinkinPark Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I don’t hear anything punky about that song. Not sure where that comes from. A lot of bounce in the verses with sing-rapping by Mike and a big chorus with a synths lead in the background (gets killed in the production) Someone mentioned Deftones. In terms of guitars that’s probably not too far fetched. Big sound and a lot of repetitions. Quote
leftshoe18 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Mike sounds so damn good on this song. This might be my favorite vocal performance of his in this era. Quote

LeonardoMF93 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 In my opinion, Let You Fade is the worst song on From Zero, maybe tied with Stained. I found it a bit generic. The only part I liked was one of Mike's offbeat verses because it felt different, but overall, the song sounds unfinished and seems like it was rushed just to sell another version of From Zero. Quote
JZLP-Benningstrong Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I havent heard this song yet but the descriptions by you guys are nuts.. tons of different bands, tons of different genres, some think that this is the best FZ song (or one of the best) now someone ways that its the worst! wtf what a polarizing song! Quote
Igussek Posted May 14 Posted May 14 How this song could be generic for someone, comparing it to rest of the album 🤔 Quote

Vocal melody through every part of the song is very repetitive. Most simple in a whole FZ (Not counting "Casualty". Which has practically no melody at all XD) but instrumental, lyrics and unconventional song structure is big plus. Best Mike vocals too. Definitely not generic. Quote

RYG4R Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Album 9, here we go! Hoping for LP to make more Transformers soundtrack! Quote
