Stone Temple Pilots have just announced their upcoming tour, as well as a new EP for this fall. The press release reads:

"LOS ANGELES (July 15, 2013) – STONE TEMPLE PILOTS with Chester Bennington have announced they’ll be hitting the road with their new line up. The tour kicks off September 4th in Bethlehem, PA, with several North America dates to follow. Platinum rock band FILTER will be supporting the shows.

For further info and to purchase VIP packages, go to http://bit.ly/STPVIP General admission tickets will go on sale Friday July 19th at www.stonetemplepilots.com/tour-dates/

STP members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz made their live debut with Chester Bennington at KROQ’s Weenie Roast in May. Since their surprise performance, the band has been busy working on new music for an upcoming EP to be released this fall.

In an effort to take control of the way they will be delivering new music in the future, STP will release the upcoming EP via their own label, with distribution through ADA (Alternative Distribution Alliance).

“We’re very ambitious about the future of making music,” said Robert DeLeo. “The process and intention of creating it is so much more gratifying.”

The debut single from the new STP lineup, Out of Time is currently Top 5 at Active Rock radio and climbing fast.

“We’ve been writing new material and visiting songs from our early albums,” says Robert. “ It all feels new again and we’re excited to get out and play a solid set of songs both old and new.”

I'll see what I can make from these shows:

Sept 17 Sunrise, FL @ BB & T Center (FLA Panthers Event)

Sept 18 Orlando, FL @ House of Blues

Sept 20 Columbia, SC @ Township Auditorium

Sept 21 Ft Myers, FL Shockwave Festival – Jet Blue Park

Nov 1 Biloxi, MS @ Hard Rock Live

That's 5. For sure Orlando and Columbia. The BB&T Center is a great arena. The LP show there was awesome, so perhaps that one too.

How far is Midland from you?

Maybe with that Biloxi date in November they'll add some more shows, like Houston and Dallas or something. Texas is such a huge state that bands typically play tons of shows there.

4+ hours from Dallas. But I don't have a car, so it complicates things.

Every time I see "with Chester Bennington" it annoys the shit out of me.

These are practically the same (essentially inaccessible) places that NIN is hitting in October, and I'm much less enthusiastic about seeing STP live, so that's a no-go.

If you guys saw the sh*t storm the whole name thing is causing right now with STP fans, you'd get why they're billing this way. I totally agree it should just be STP because Chester is their lead singer, but STP is trying to find a bit of middle ground with fans.

for a lot of the STP fans there is no STP without scott, middle ground for them is to bring back their original singer (/voice) and songwriter.

so let's call it:

"Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington without Scott Weiland" = STPWCBWSW.

To me, STP with Chester Bennington doesn't sound too bad. It's better than if STP had to change their name completely. A lot of people might not know that STP has replaced Scott with Chester, so this way they will know if they plan on attending a show.
