  3. OXFORD — Four friends playing the video game “Rock Band” for 24 hours straight might not sound like a way to help others. But Miami University junior Paul Levitt has a plan to benefit victims of natural disasters by doing just that. Levitt is organizing a charity event called “Rockin’ for Relief,” which will begin at 11:59 p.m. April 23 at Memorial Park. Levitt and three friends will play “Rock Band” for 24 hours straight to raise money for the charity Music for Relief, a nonprofit organization started by the band Linkin Park for natural disaster relief and global warming prevention. “Like most charity events, the main incentive is to simply do something good for those less fortunate,” Levitt said. “Hopefully we will draw attention from all demographics like college kids, families, business patrons, etc.” Levitt came up with the idea one day when he was on the Internet and saw that a group of gamers were trying to break the world record for longest “Rock Band” session to benefit the charity Child’s Play. “I thought to myself, ‘I’d like to do something like that, too,’ and I started talking about it with a couple friends. Later, I Googled ‘how to host a charity event,’ and took it from there,” Levitt said. Levitt is funding the event himself but said he hopes donations will come from students and local Oxford residents. “There will be a silent auction at the event where people can donate, and proceeds will go to Music for Relief. Most businesses have been very gracious and have donated a variety of merchandise, which I will be coupling together and putting up for auction,” Levitt said. One auction item labeled “date night” will includes dinner for two at Kona Bistro, two movie tickets from the Princess Theater and possibly a bouquet of flowers from a local florist. Levitt and his friends also plan to solicit donations door-to-door. “I will be asking for pledges ,similar to the way a walkathon for breast cancer or diabetes would work, where people pledge to give a dollar for every mile a participant walks. Except in this case it would be for every hour that we play the video game,” Levitt said. Oxford City Council approved Levitt’s request to hold the event at Memorial Park. Source
  4. Well, you can conclude from the Minutes to Midnight booklet that they did that too with songs on that album, realizing that the first seed was probably right from the start. ^^
  5. A Linkin Park release is bigger than a Julien-K release and requires more preperation. Not only by those six persons, but also by the label and the dependances in other countries.
  6. i don't think that there will be more demo's this year. we were just lucky last year.
  7. Linkin Park is also rumoured to play at Rock in Rio... I don't know.
  8. Shinoda said in one of the many interviews in December that they had started working on the artwork in November.
  9. That sounded funny. Jonas Brothers are the hardest opponents of Linkin Park. xD
  10. But they attend with their kids, so it's nice for them.
  11. It says something like the quake is over, but the consequences not. They further talk about the album, the information we already know. I can't translate it though, German isn't my native language.
  12. Do you think that KROQ is going to play We Are the World? I'd call Not Alone just a promo single, airplay only.
  13. Indeed. A half of dozen news articles on the websites of rock stations and a contest where you can win tickets for the DbS concert. That's DbS in the Netherlands. But if you compare DbS with FM, what were the sales numbers in the first couple of months? Because the succes of FM started relatively late. Where'd You Go was released in April, the album in November (five months earlier).
  14. But how many input has the JB in their music? You can't compare that with Linkin Park. Agreed.
  15. I think it's important for bands to know what they're capable of and that they want to evolve. They can find out their boundaries; self knowledge is important. Linkin Park did that with Minutes to Midnight.
  16. Forget all the talk of "concept records" and "grandiose insanity." On their new album, Linkin Park are going back to their roots in order to make the most challenging record of their career. On Tuesday, MTV News spoke to LP co-frontman Mike Shinoda about his band's just-launched Download to Donate for Haiti project and, in the process, we managed to get some new information about the band's much-anticipated follow-up to 2007's Minutes to Midnight, which has been in the works for more than a year now. And while he still maintains that LP will be doing their fair share of growing on the new record, it's important to know that they're also not ignoring their past — quite the opposite, in fact. "The album is going really well — we decided to go with Rick Rubin again, he's been in the studio with us. And we've been working in a different studio than we did the last record in, we decided to go back to the studio we did Hybrid Theory and Meteora in," Shinoda said. "It's been going great, I feel like it's an entirely different process and an entirely different style of music than anything we've done before. It's hard to place. People keep asking me, 'What does it sound like?' and it's hard to describe. When people hear it, they're going to have a tough time saying that it falls into a category." Full article here Thoughts?
  17. Linkin Park (Mike Shinoda,Chester Bennington,Brad Delson,Rob Bourdon,Phoenix,Mr. Hahn) This SoCal nu metal band fuses hip hop and rock together in one sweet concoction. With rap and screamo vocals plus some scratching and layered guitars, Linkin Park is one of the most innovative bands of the new millenium. They've scored hits on pop and rock radio and have toured the globe, followed by their signature mosh pits. Setlist: 1. Shadow of the Day- this soft ballad will soothe everyone with its ending guitar solo until... 2. One Step Closer- let the rapping/screaming/headbanging begin. this is a metal song with a pop chorus "Shut up when you're talking to me" 3. New Divide- a new hit off the Transformers 2 soundtrack. electronic effects and a killer keyboard breakdown halfway through. 4. In the End- Linkin Park's signature song. fast paced rap and soul searching lyrics Source
  18. Good that he wrote "(not album related)", otherwise, everyone would get insane. Prob something with the game I guess.
  19. Phoenix is reading this topic now and laughing his ass off. xD
