  1. Today's ben a busy day for Chester. He has flown out to the east coast to do some interviews in New York City. A lot of information has come today, so here's a summary of everything of importance today. Feel free to translate the highlights into your language and repost. Do note there are some conflicting statements between Mike and Chester on the album, like rapping vs no rapping, one guest versus other guests, etc. Chester @ Elvis Duran 'Heavy' was the first Linkin Park song to be released in all formats of radio. Songs like 'In The End,' 'Numb,' and 'Numb/Encore' were all crossover hits. Meteora's sound was created out of the pressure of how big Hybrid Theory was. It was creatively a naïve perspective. Mike wrote 'In The End.' The band never limits their genre while writing. They want to be a band that melts all the walls of genre and to be their own body of work. The band will be releasing more songs from the album to those who preordered it before May. Some may be released to the LPU. There's a class about modern vocalists in the northeast that says Chester is a rare example of someone who screams and sings correctly without damaging their voice. Chester said he thinks songs like 'In The End', 'Somewhere I Belong', 'Breaking The Habit' and 'Pushing Me Away' are examples of poppy Linkin Park songs. Chester @ Q104.3 FM Linkin Park is the number 1 band on Facebook in the world with 62 million likes. Linkin Park is the first band to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. They currently have 3 billion views. Linkin Park just surpassed 4 billion streams on Pandora. On most of the songs in the new album, he recorded the vocals literally over a piano or an acoustic guitar (no other instruments whatsoever) which he thought was very calming and trance-like. They brought in vocal producers because they wanted a different perspective on how to approach the vocals. The songs on the new album are more soulful than what people are used to hear from the band. Linkin Park's music has always been fun for him to be a part of because it's like he is in a different band in each record. The band name Hybrid Theory summed up who they were when they were making their first record and it's still a part of who they are today. Unfortunately they had to change it. Kiiara wasn't even born the year Chester graduated from high school. "There isn't anything wrong in making the perfect pop song." It doesn't seem to matter what kind of music they write, whether it's a pop song, a mid-tempo, alternative song, a hip-hop track or a screamer, they get the same polarized response from their fan base every single time, since the beginning. It doesn't matter whether or not other people like what they write, what matters is they like it. When they released Hybrid Theory, they got 2 stars in Rolling Stone, no one wanted to sign them to any deal, no one knew how to push the record, and one article written by a guy in Seattle said Chester was responsible for every horrible thing that's ever happened to humankind. Chester has the highest respect for Stone Temple Pilots. Scott was a huge supporter and introduced him to a lot of people he plays music with. Chester loves Scott and is sad that he's gone. The reason he left Stone Temple Pilots is because his kids would cry when he left on tour with them. When he's not with Linkin Park, he needs to be home. Chester @ 92.3 AMP Chester talked about how Zane Lowe introduced the band to Kiiara. Mike usually pitches in when he wants to try singing or rapping on a track. Mike is the sole singer on 'Invisible,' 'Sorry For Now,' and 'Good Goodbye' - Chester does the higher harmonies. Mike raps heavily on 'Good Goodbye.' Chester raps on 'Sorry For Now.' Instead of writing tracks piece by piece, the band wouldn't leave a session without having a song. It would all start as a conversation, and out of those the songs would build progressively from a chord progression to lyrics. The band didn't set out and say "let's take the guitars back," it was more about the band having the song ready in the way it was. Chester started most ideas with an acoustic guitar or piano, and things went from there, with the track building around it. Ideas were more about supporting the vocal than placing a vocal on a track. Chester gets excited by heavy, fast music because it evokes emotion. A lot of the times, though, the band finds themselves having a hard time finding the right vocals to fit that kind of music and that leaves a lot of tracks incomplete. Focusing on the melodies and vocals first really made this album process a lot more productive and fluid. The band has recorded over 150 demos for the new album. The band is always thinking about how people are consuming music and how they can reach them. Chester only watched a bit of the GRAMMYs - he had to go to the after parties. Some of Chester's new favorite artists are Watsky and Twenty One Pilots. He also said that one day he'll be listening to Taylor Swift, and then Meshuggah the next. Chester is no longer in Stone Temple Pilots is because that the doube commitment to LP and STP took a lot away from his family. He doesn't have it in him to devote his time to a full project on the side of LP like Dead By Sunrise or STP. Mike is always working on new music - even on the plane! No one else plays on the record, but there are more features on the record and plenty of collaborations with songwriters. In reference to Hellfest, Chester said that they will be the Backstreet Boys of that festival. They're too light for the heavy metal scene, but too hard for the pop scene. Corey Taylor from Slipknot (who Chester has been playing with on Kings Of Chaos) loved 'Heavy' and other songs from the record. Chester @ KISS-FM The band sampled their kids and put them in the demos, but Chester said they distracted from the songs so they removed them. It was very surreal for Kiiara to record a song with Linkin Park, about eight months after she started her career. Chester compared it if LP had released 'One Step Closer' and then he had hypothetically guested with Depeche Mode...he'd be super nervous. Chester originally wanted Julia Michaels, one of the songwriters on 'Heavy', to record the guest vocals. She turned it down because she wanted to be "behind the scenes", but now she has a number one single. At first, she was super quiet when she worked with Linkin Park but now she is quite outgoing due to her recent success. The line "I don't like my mind right now / Stacking up problems that are so unneccessary" in 'Heavy' is a very personal lyric for Chester. He said he has a very negative mindset sometimes and there's "a different Chester inside me, trying to bring me down"...so he counters it by trying to be a good husband, dad, friend, band mate, and more. He finds positive activities to do in life because he often is thinking quite negative thoughts when he's alone. When he's in that mindset, he just wants to get out of it. He was in a complete mess, a total wreck mentally, about a year ago. Along with the problems he was going through, the other band members in Linkin Park had tough times in life recently and it was inspiration for the album. Chester used to practice bad habits on tour and he feels that he's lucky his voice lasted so well through it all (staying up late, talking too much, drinking, doing drugs, not drinking enough water, etc). The one thing he makes sure to do every single day is to work out at the gym, no matter where he's at. He realizes there are crazy fans, less than 1% of the fans..."0.0001%" so he doesn't let the bad experiences with those fans ruin it for everyone else. He still enjoys fans, talking with them, taking pictures, etc. Chester @ 106.1 BLI / WBLI Having Julia Michaels in the studio inspired them to have a female feature on 'Heavy'. 'Heavy' is a song for people who have feelings of being trapped and stuck in a moment in time in their mind or in their behavior or in their life. The subjects on Linkin Park's songs always comes from within but they try not to be too on the nose when writing the lyrics. All the songs on the album started with conversations about what was going on in the band member's lives. 'Heavy' has female vocals, no heavy guitars, and Chester is singing in a lower register (basically talking) in the first couple of lines of the song. It doesn't surprise Chester that people don't recognize who's playing it at first and he feels like that's an accomplishment. It was flattering to play at Warped Tour and hear from every artist they met that his band was an inspiration to them. Linkin Park's formula has always been to be theirselves. They've always wanted to be a band that broke down the barries of genre and became its own thing. Part of that has been to experiment with new things to keep things fresh and make music that excites them as opposed to make music that has been succesful to them in the past. A couple of weeks ago Chester started working with a vocal coach for the first time in his life. Mostly because a lot of the songs they'll be playing are pretty stripped down and hopefully they'll play intimate sessions. Thanks to him, his range has expanded significantly. Chester @ Music Choice 100: Kiiara's Heavy Feature | Heavy Music Video Julia Michaels' participation in the writing process of 'Heavy' sparkled the idea of having a female vocalist in the song. They heard her sing and asked her to be on the song but she "didn't wanted to be out in front." Chester did a version of the song all the way through in case they didn't find someone else for the song, but they happened to be introduced to Kiiara who is a big Linkin Park fan and has a voice as unique as Julia's, so they had her to come in and do the vocals. 'Heavy' is not a heavy song, but it was more violent and intense making this video than any other Linkin Park video. He's got into fist fights with himself and other people, threw a lamp into a television set, and "wrecked so much stuff it was awesome." Mike also gave an interview to LPAssociation which can be read here. We will gladly highlight Chester on SiriusXM if anyone has a link to this interview. We cannot find it, as of right now. Feel free to post links to the other interviews if you come across them.
  2. Even though 'Heavy' was just released, we're already itching for the next taste of new music. Well, it might just be that we've had one for quite awhile. You may recall that around in August of last year, Linkin Park was in the studio with pop artist Blackbear. We found some proposed Blackbear x LP merchandise on his snapchat, and also something else... This video is a reel from his snapchat story back in August. At the time, we figured it was a clip of his own song that he took to the studio to work on with Linkin Park. The clip of music starts at three seconds. We didn't think much of it back then, and until now we figured it was a forgotten collaboration (looking at you, Martin Garrix). Now that we've seen the tracklist for the band's upcoming One More Light, we're now thinking otherwise. Track 7 on the album is called 'Sorry For Now,' and if you listen to this clip, you can hear a tuned-up Mike Shinoda sing: [i'm s]orry for now That I couldn't be around Sometimes things refuse to go the way we planned. Was this clip part of 'Sorry For Now'? It seems all to coincidental that the line has the words "Sorry for now" in it. What do you think? After hearing 'Heavy,' this does seem to fit the sound of the record. What are your thoughts? If this does end up being the song, what are your thoughts on it? Better than 'Heavy?' Worse? Follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page for the latest updates on the band's new music. We expect the band will be going on a North American tour sometime this summer, and they've confirmed a November Asia Tour, so be on the look out for tour dates from those.
  3. Things JUST calmed down, y u do this
  4. Anyway... I imagine a lot of people (at least here) are going to prefer the instrumental to the full version based on the criticisms I've seen.
  5. I was reading a comment on a different site earlier, and I do think Mike is being a bit unreasonable with the whole "genre is dead" thing. Like, you don't need a justification for making this kind of sound. Just downright say this is what you wanted to do. It's okay to compare works - that's the purpose of genre, to categorize as a means to separate different types of things that allow for comparison. Genre can be deda for sake of listening, but when something is as strikingly poppy as this, call it pop. It's almost like he's afraid of calling it what it is, as if he has something to be ashamed of. Maybe that goes into what Geki said earlier that he was bashing this very music three years ago. I believe the band wouldn't put out something they weren't happy with, regardless of the circumstances. I know it's not the case, but Mike seemingly using that phrase as a scapegoat has been bothering me lately.

  7. Rob hugged her. I doubt they hadn't met before.
  8. Love the song. The way Chester belts "Holding on" when the first chorus comes in is magical. Love the harmonies in the chorus too. The way the drums in the bridge is just awesome too.
  9. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ its been two years, I'm rusty
  10. 7am PST on KROQ, and probably around 12pm PST for iTunes and other media. This is going off the two clips that showed a time.
  11. It's been nearly two years since we've whipped out a pre-show post, but the time has now come. Hang on tight, because we're just getting warmed up here. Linkin Park are back! Tomorrow's a big day for them - the long-awaited single from their next record, 'Heavy' featuring Kiiara is due out tomorrow! That's not what this post is about, though. Later in the day, after the single is out to the radio, the band will be having a Facebook livestream, and will presumably be performing some live music! Let's start off with what you all need to know - livestream information. The stream will be happening at 12:00 PM PST tomorrow (Thursday, February 16) on Facebook. Be sure you've liked Linkin Park's Facebook page before so you get a notification when they go live! You can go to the livestream page here and have Facebook set a reminder for you so that you don't miss out. If you don't have a Facebook, you should still be able to watch the livestream, but you may want to make one just in case. If you're adamant, then here's a countdown to the stream. Be sure to check your timezone here to be sure you're not late! Livestream Information: Link: www.facebook.com/linkinpark/videos/10154919594961788/ Time: 12:00 PM PST (Compare Timezone) Countdown There's a lot of questions about this show. To be fully honest, we're not even sure if the band is playing live music! It's pretty safe to say that they will be performing, though. The band has been rehearsing pretty extensively for the last week and a half, videos and photos of the band rehearsing in Third Encore have been popping up all over. These rehearsals are likely in preparation of upcoming promotional performances for 'Heavy,' since the band's first tour dates are still three months away. Just today we got a picture of Chester with a fittingly old-fashioned guitar. The main question you probably all want to know is what the band will be performing. The short answer is: we don't know. The long answer is: we kind of know. One thing is certain: the band will perform 'Heavy.' The song we've seen the most in the Third Encore sessions is 'Heavy,' Mike even giving us a short tutorial on his Instagram story on how to play the song's intro. If the band performs 'Heavy' tomorrow, it'll be the first time the song has ever been played live! Kiiara will (probably) not be joining the band, unless she's a super secret surprise guest, so we'll get to see how the band plans on translating her parts live. The only other song we know of that the band may play is 'Lost In The Echo,' as a video of Joe playing with the samples from the song was posted on his Instagram story a few days ago. We know the band has been practicing more than just 'Heavy' at the very least, as Brad has been seen with a variety of different guitars in these sessions. What songs do you think the band will play? Another uncertainty about this show is that we don't really know where it's going to take place! The most likely place it'll be happening at is Third Encore, so the band will have all of their equipment set up and can rehearse freely. Of course, it's possible that it's not even a show and we're at some band member's house, but all signs are pointing to a live performance. Finally, it's unclear what kind of set we'll be getting. It's probably not too likely we see the band perform a full set, but it's not unreasonable to think we can get a decent amount of songs. Public Linkin Park rehearsal sets can usually last anywhere from 5 songs (see: the LPU Secret Show / Projekt Revolution rehearsal in 2008) to 8 (like the KROQ Private Rehearsal in 2013). It's likely the band has a bunch of songs they're preparing to play for their promotional performances, so it's likely we'll also see a bunch of singles. Deep cuts may be possible, though; remember that the band took weeks to rehearse Hybrid Theory in its entirety for the Download Festival in 2014. Maybe the band will even take some requests from the Facebook chat - if they do, whatever you do, DO NOT SPAM 'BURN IT DOWN' IN THE CHAT. Watch the band perform 'Lies Greed Misery' for the first time for their Rio+Social show in 2012. That set was prerecorded, but this was still the earliest known performance of the song that was shown to the public. Maybe the band will surprise us by performing an entirely new song we've never heard! All that's left to do is wait! Remember to get those reminders rolling and set your alarms, because you won't want to miss this. Linkin Park is back! This is the first of many great shows to come. For live updates on the show and news tomorrow, be sure to check back on the forums, follow us on Twitter, and like our Facebook page. After this, we expect the band will start performing for radio and TV shows soon, and maybe even perform some full warm up shows! We'll keep you covered on everything. Who's excited?! Check out our 2017 page to see Linkin Park's touring schedule for the year.
  12. That's a cool theory. It's the only one that makes any remote sense, either
  13. It's been three years since the last era for Linkin Park started. The Hunting Party era saw the removal of the circle pattern around the classic Linkin Park logo. Now, as we're ushered into a brand new era for the band, the logo has once again changed. The circle isn't back, but... it is now a hexagon. This new Linkin Park logo has the familiar LP textualization in the center of it, with a grungy hexagonal pattern surrounding it. Seems pretty edgy. We're not exactly sure what the hexagon symbolizes, but this does mean we're officially in a brand new era for Linkin Park, and that it's only good times ahead from here. If you haven't noticed, the LPAmbassadors have changed their profile pictures on social media to bare the logo in front of the flag of the country they represent. It's a bridge between the fans and Linkin Park, and this era is certainly showing signs of being one of the best in a long time. Linkin Park has gone through a lot of logos since they started out. Check out our Official Logos thread and take a walk through history and watch how the band's logo evolved from the old school Hybrid Theory days until now. Follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page - and check out our snazzy new profile pictures while they last - so you don't miss out on updates on new Linkin Park news. If you can think of any hexagon LP puns, be sure to tweet us with the hashtag #UntilItsHexagon.
  14. You completely misinterpreted what he said. He was referring to your comment about their age, not the "genre" you think they fall into.
  15. As I'm sure everyone knows, the long wait is over for new Linkin Park music. The band's new single 'Heavy' featuring Kiiara is out tomorrow at 7 A.M. PST, and Mike will be heading over to KROQ to help premiere the song on radio. The song will be playing on KROQ all day tomorrow most likely, but you may hear it for the first time ever if you tune in at around 7 AM PST. Mike will be joining the talk show to talk about the single at 7:15 AM PST (click here to check your timezone), so if you're interested in hearing some insight on the song (though, at this point, what don't we know about it?), be sure to tune in. The entire band has been on the talk show before, performing songs in the past for listeners. The first performance on the show was in 2007, when the band performed a few songs as a rehearsal set in front of a few lucky fans while they prepared for their Projekt Revolution tour. Songs in that set included 'What I've Done,' 'Leave Out All The Rest,' and the piano version of 'Pushing Me Away,' which had to be stopped and restarted due to Mike making a mistake! The band returned in 2010, where their set on the show was the first performance on the A Thousand Suns touring cycle. The set featured the live debuts of 'The Catalyst,' 'Waiting For The End,' and 'Iridescent.' A crowd was present here, too, and the band had a Q&A session in between a few songs. Watch the band perform 'The Catalyst' live for the first time on the Kevin & Bean show in 2010. It seems only Mike will be visiting KROQ, so it's unlikely we'll see the band perform and live songs. But that may come later in the day, as the band has plans for a livestream on Facebook at 12:10 PM PST - get all the information you need for that here. It's looking like the band has been rehearsing pretty extensively for the past week or so, so we can expect at least a few songs to be performed - namely the live debut of 'Heavy.' EDIT: It seems Mike will be making a variety of other appearances throughout the morning. He'll be on 102.5 KISS-FM at some point in the morning, as well as on the Zach Sang Show during the show's second hour. It is possible that these appearances will be pre-recorded. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and check out our Facebook page to keep updated on this! If Mike shares any interesting information, we'll be sure to let you know.
  16. Really not vibing Chester's recent quaker costumes If he comes out onstage screaming in a pilgrim costume, I might have to leave the venue.
  17. On the same day that the band's new single 'Heavy' featuring Kiiara is expected to be released, Linkin Park will be holding a special live broadcast on Facebook Live! The stream is labelled as a "special live event," and you can access it from this link. The stream is expected to start at 12:10 PM PST, so be sure to get those reminders in and check your timezones. Here's a countdown timer if you want it! We're not exactly sure what we can expect from this event, but we can take some good guesses. For one, the band has been rehearsing for more than a week now at Third Encore, with snippets of the band practicing posted on various members' social media. Just yesterday Mike played the intro to 'Heavy' on his Instagram story, while today on Joe's Instagram, you can see him messing around with samples from 'Lost In The Echo.' It seems likely that this will be a live performance, making it the band's first performance since November 2015 (not counting Chester and Joe's short bout in China last year). Live shows are what we're all here for, first and foremost, so let's get speculating - what song's will we see? Will we hear 'Heavy' played for the first time ever? Will the band bring out some random older cuts to add to the set? Will we see a full set or a short set (like 2012's Rio+Social event)? There's lots of possibilities, so let us know what you think! Check out this performance of 'Numb' from the Rio+Social event. Also performed that session were two then-new songs from Living Things, 'Burn It Down' and 'Lies Greed Misery.' As always, be sure to follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page so you can get the latest information about the band. We'll keep bringing updates about the livestream as they come. Let us know what you think the band are going to do!
  18. Here's a clip of Kiiara singing Heavy: https://twitter.com/lplive/status/831403064099741696 Really like her voice with these lines. Was wondering how that verse would fit in. Excited to hear how the harmonies work - and how they pull this one of live.
  19. Have you only read Geki's comments? lmao
  20. I feel stupid for just realizing that the song in today's clip is Heavy
  21. Mike talking casually about Saturday Night Live on Twitter. Maybe it's a hint that the band will be performing on the show?
  22. Mike first mentioned Emily Wright's name in November 2016 on the Facebook livestream. Looks like 'Heavy' started to really get worked on later in the cycle.
  23. I'm going to take the 17th as the date we're getting it because it's an official source (as well as the one that makes the most sense). The 21st will be when the single is released to radio. The Valentine's Day thing seems to have been false altogether.
