  1. Show page is up: http://lplive.net/shows/db/2017/20170227
  2. Ethan Mates mixing the performance. No Kiiara, and Mike at the helm? Hmm.
  3. Added the 'Invisible' note to the post. Interesting.
  4. Linkin Park's back in action. Grab some popcorn and get your couch ready, because it's promo time! Linkin Park and Kiiara will be performing 'Heavy' on The Late Late Show With James Corden on February 27! As customary of any artist with a new album, they have to start promoting the new music. Usually this means making appearances on TV and playing some random shows in some big markets. Promo season is just starting for Linkin Park, and this performance will be their first of the cycle. This show also marks the band's first full-band performance since November 2015 - that's a bit over fifteen months without a full show. We saw Chester and Joe onstage in China in the summer of 2016 and Mike, Chester, Brad, and Kiiara performing stripped down versions of a few songs just over a week ago, but we haven't seen all six members onstage together since the Relief Live! show in November 2015. While this TV appearance won't be a full show, it's also worth noting that the band's last FULL show was at Blizzcon, a week before Relief! Live. The Relief! Live show was the first time the band opened a show with 'From The Inside' by itself. In 2009, the band opened their show in Shanghai, China with 'Session' and 'From The Inside,' as they had to drop 'Given Up' due to China's strict censorship rules. Something worth nothing about this show is that - as we mentioned before - Kiiara will be performing with the band! You've already heard her in 'Heavy,' and if you watched the band's Facebook livestream from earlier this month, you'll know she has a pretty strong live voice. She sang both 'Heavy' and an excellent piano version of 'Burn It Down' with Mike and Chester - we've yet to see her sing with the entire band in play, but we're sure it'll be great. She's been in rehearsals with the band for the last week or so in preparation for promo performances (we spotted her on Joe's Instagram videos from rehearsal), so it won't be too surprising if we see her and the band perform together a few more times together. This stripped down version of 'Burn It Down' is one of the, if not the best, performances of the song ever. Chester's vocals are more in shape than they've been in awhile (thanks to his vocal coach), Kiiara adds a special something to the track with her voice, and Mike singing his part add up to a truly awesome and beautiful version of the song. Something we're all hoping for is Linkin Park in Carpool Karaoke. We're sure you've heard of it, but if you haven't, here's the gist of it: James Corden gets in a car and picks up an artist while he drives to the set and sings songs with them. There's been a wide variety of guests: everyone from , , and to and have done Carpool Karaoke with Corden. We're not sure if LP will be doing one or not, but fingers crossed that they do! There are three parts of the show we can look forward to as far as the band appearing on the show: the beginning, when Corden talks to the guests, during the show, if Carpool Karaoke happens, and for the band's actual performance. EDIT 2/27: Phoenix posted a picture to his Instagram page of Brad practicing backstage. The paper he's reading off of says 'Invisible,' a song title on One More Light. Is there a surprise coming tonight? Who's excited to see the band back onstage? This will likely be the first of several promo performances going on, as well. We're even thinking that the band has some secret club performances coming up... It seems most likely that Los Angeles and New York (amongst others) may be on the market for that. Keep your eyes peeled. The Late Late Show With James Corden airs on CBS at 12:37am EST (check your timezone here), so make sure you set your alarms and don't miss it! 6. Adding WID, WY, Runaway, and the new song with an acoustic part.
  7. Fixed. Watched the video and noticed that, but forgot to change it back.
  8. Second livestream with Brad. Interesting info: - He's using his modified 6-string PRS (standard tuning with a dropped B at the top) for 'With You' and 'Runaway,' which "may show up" in the setilst. - There's a song with an acoustic part that Brad will be using a capo on the 5th fret for.
  9. I think you're taking this entirely too personally, based off of this response and others you've made. They're clearly just fucking around here, and I'm sure they do look back at the HT/Meteora days and laugh about it. Let's face it - they've matured and grown a lot since then, and their perspective of that kind of music will definitely have changed. If they didn't acknowledge those songs as songs that made a difference to people and their careers, then yeah, they would've dropped them. They know what people want to hear, but all the same they know what THEY want to hear from themselves. Nu-metal is outdated anyway. It might as well be laughed at, at this point.
  10. As the band starts rehearsing for promo shows and their upcoming tour, they'll be preparing some songs to play live. Here, we'll compile evidence and discuss what songs they'll be playing. Usually, we can scour rehearsal videos and pictures to find anything we can, but feel free to post any speculation. *We can assume all the big singles like 'One Step Closer' and 'In The End' will be played, so unless there's specific evidence pointing to them being played, we'll leave them unlisted. Possible Songs: - Heavy - no brainer. - Battle Symphony - also a no brainer. - Good Goodbye - On an Instagram Live stream after the track went live, Mike mentioned how he would rap the demo verse of 'Good Goodbye' live if Stormzy or Pusha T weren't with the band. Later, on the day of the announcement of the North American Tour, the band posted a video of them at rehearsals performing a new live version of the song lacking Pusha's and Stormzy's verses and a new verse from Mike. - Talking To Myself - In his guitar rig tour, Brad said that he is using a guitar with a capo on the fifth fret of a standard tuned guitar for a brand new song that has an acoustic part in it. If you look at the video of the band playing the song at the Warner Bros party, Brad plays this song with a capo on the fifth fret. - Crawling (Piano Version) - Chester has said they are planning on performing stripped down songs on the upcoming tour. The band performed an acoustic piano version of the song at their Facebook Livestream, so it's possible this may be one of the songs they play. A lyric sheet for the song can be seen in this video (February 23 rehearsal), but it may just be left over from the Facebook show. - Burn It Down (Piano Version) - Chester has said they are planning on performing stripped down songs on the upcoming tour. The band performed an acoustic piano version of the song at their Facebook Livestream, so it's possible this may be one of the songs they play. It's safe to assume the band will play this song regardless of whether it's stripped down or not. - What I've Done - Mike briefly teased the intro of 'What I've Done' while playing a heavy version of 'Heavy'. - With You - In his guitar rig tour, Brad said that he might bring his modified 6-string with him to play 'With You' and 'Runaway.' - Runaway - In his guitar rig tour, Brad said that he might bring his modified 6-string with him to play 'With You' and 'Runaway.' - Lost In The Echo - During the livestream following the North American Tour announcement, the band performed 'Good Goodbye,' the video ending with the intro of LITE playing. - Wastelands - The band posted a video of them rehearsing the song on their Instagram story. Set Structure Here's what we can piece together from the various information as to how the set will be organized. xx. Good Goodbye (Ext. Intro; Alt. Live Version) xx. Lost In The Echo
  11. At the beginning of this video you can see two lyric sheets. On the left I think is Heavy and on the right is Crawling. Might just be leftover from the Facebook livestream.
  12. Guess this is the real nu-metal version of 'Heavy'
  13. Going to add a club tour rumor, given all the rehearsing they've been doing.
  14. Was hoping he would drop a hint or two about a club show in New York for album promo... A lot of rehearsals for just 'Heavy' promo performances.
  15. Thank YOU for all the great work you've done. You've set a standard not just for the band, but for all rock bands out there. You're the reason that a Linkin Park show is one of the best shows out there. Good luck with all your future endeavors!
  16. Today's ben a busy day for Chester. He has flown out to the east coast to do some interviews in New York City. A lot of information has come today, so here's a summary of everything of importance today. Feel free to translate the highlights into your language and repost. Do note there are some conflicting statements between Mike and Chester on the album, like rapping vs no rapping, one guest versus other guests, etc. Chester @ Elvis Duran 'Heavy' was the first Linkin Park song to be released in all formats of radio. Songs like 'In The End,' 'Numb,' and 'Numb/Encore' were all crossover hits. Meteora's sound was created out of the pressure of how big Hybrid Theory was. It was creatively a naïve perspective. Mike wrote 'In The End.' The band never limits their genre while writing. They want to be a band that melts all the walls of genre and to be their own body of work. The band will be releasing more songs from the album to those who preordered it before May. Some may be released to the LPU. There's a class about modern vocalists in the northeast that says Chester is a rare example of someone who screams and sings correctly without damaging their voice. Chester said he thinks songs like 'In The End', 'Somewhere I Belong', 'Breaking The Habit' and 'Pushing Me Away' are examples of poppy Linkin Park songs. Chester @ Q104.3 FM Linkin Park is the number 1 band on Facebook in the world with 62 million likes. Linkin Park is the first band to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. They currently have 3 billion views. Linkin Park just surpassed 4 billion streams on Pandora. On most of the songs in the new album, he recorded the vocals literally over a piano or an acoustic guitar (no other instruments whatsoever) which he thought was very calming and trance-like. They brought in vocal producers because they wanted a different perspective on how to approach the vocals. The songs on the new album are more soulful than what people are used to hear from the band. Linkin Park's music has always been fun for him to be a part of because it's like he is in a different band in each record. The band name Hybrid Theory summed up who they were when they were making their first record and it's still a part of who they are today. Unfortunately they had to change it. Kiiara wasn't even born the year Chester graduated from high school. "There isn't anything wrong in making the perfect pop song." It doesn't seem to matter what kind of music they write, whether it's a pop song, a mid-tempo, alternative song, a hip-hop track or a screamer, they get the same polarized response from their fan base every single time, since the beginning. It doesn't matter whether or not other people like what they write, what matters is they like it. When they released Hybrid Theory, they got 2 stars in Rolling Stone, no one wanted to sign them to any deal, no one knew how to push the record, and one article written by a guy in Seattle said Chester was responsible for every horrible thing that's ever happened to humankind. Chester has the highest respect for Stone Temple Pilots. Scott was a huge supporter and introduced him to a lot of people he plays music with. Chester loves Scott and is sad that he's gone. The reason he left Stone Temple Pilots is because his kids would cry when he left on tour with them. When he's not with Linkin Park, he needs to be home. Chester @ 92.3 AMP Chester talked about how Zane Lowe introduced the band to Kiiara. Mike usually pitches in when he wants to try singing or rapping on a track. Mike is the sole singer on 'Invisible,' 'Sorry For Now,' and 'Good Goodbye' - Chester does the higher harmonies. Mike raps heavily on 'Good Goodbye.' Chester raps on 'Sorry For Now.' Instead of writing tracks piece by piece, the band wouldn't leave a session without having a song. It would all start as a conversation, and out of those the songs would build progressively from a chord progression to lyrics. The band didn't set out and say "let's take the guitars back," it was more about the band having the song ready in the way it was. Chester started most ideas with an acoustic guitar or piano, and things went from there, with the track building around it. Ideas were more about supporting the vocal than placing a vocal on a track. Chester gets excited by heavy, fast music because it evokes emotion. A lot of the times, though, the band finds themselves having a hard time finding the right vocals to fit that kind of music and that leaves a lot of tracks incomplete. Focusing on the melodies and vocals first really made this album process a lot more productive and fluid. The band has recorded over 150 demos for the new album. The band is always thinking about how people are consuming music and how they can reach them. Chester only watched a bit of the GRAMMYs - he had to go to the after parties. Some of Chester's new favorite artists are Watsky and Twenty One Pilots. He also said that one day he'll be listening to Taylor Swift, and then Meshuggah the next. Chester is no longer in Stone Temple Pilots is because that the doube commitment to LP and STP took a lot away from his family. He doesn't have it in him to devote his time to a full project on the side of LP like Dead By Sunrise or STP. Mike is always working on new music - even on the plane! No one else plays on the record, but there are more features on the record and plenty of collaborations with songwriters. In reference to Hellfest, Chester said that they will be the Backstreet Boys of that festival. They're too light for the heavy metal scene, but too hard for the pop scene. Corey Taylor from Slipknot (who Chester has been playing with on Kings Of Chaos) loved 'Heavy' and other songs from the record. Chester @ KISS-FM The band sampled their kids and put them in the demos, but Chester said they distracted from the songs so they removed them. It was very surreal for Kiiara to record a song with Linkin Park, about eight months after she started her career. Chester compared it if LP had released 'One Step Closer' and then he had hypothetically guested with Depeche Mode...he'd be super nervous. Chester originally wanted Julia Michaels, one of the songwriters on 'Heavy', to record the guest vocals. She turned it down because she wanted to be "behind the scenes", but now she has a number one single. At first, she was super quiet when she worked with Linkin Park but now she is quite outgoing due to her recent success. The line "I don't like my mind right now / Stacking up problems that are so unneccessary" in 'Heavy' is a very personal lyric for Chester. He said he has a very negative mindset sometimes and there's "a different Chester inside me, trying to bring me down"...so he counters it by trying to be a good husband, dad, friend, band mate, and more. He finds positive activities to do in life because he often is thinking quite negative thoughts when he's alone. When he's in that mindset, he just wants to get out of it. He was in a complete mess, a total wreck mentally, about a year ago. Along with the problems he was going through, the other band members in Linkin Park had tough times in life recently and it was inspiration for the album. Chester used to practice bad habits on tour and he feels that he's lucky his voice lasted so well through it all (staying up late, talking too much, drinking, doing drugs, not drinking enough water, etc). The one thing he makes sure to do every single day is to work out at the gym, no matter where he's at. He realizes there are crazy fans, less than 1% of the fans..."0.0001%" so he doesn't let the bad experiences with those fans ruin it for everyone else. He still enjoys fans, talking with them, taking pictures, etc. Chester @ 106.1 BLI / WBLI Having Julia Michaels in the studio inspired them to have a female feature on 'Heavy'. 'Heavy' is a song for people who have feelings of being trapped and stuck in a moment in time in their mind or in their behavior or in their life. The subjects on Linkin Park's songs always comes from within but they try not to be too on the nose when writing the lyrics. All the songs on the album started with conversations about what was going on in the band member's lives. 'Heavy' has female vocals, no heavy guitars, and Chester is singing in a lower register (basically talking) in the first couple of lines of the song. It doesn't surprise Chester that people don't recognize who's playing it at first and he feels like that's an accomplishment. It was flattering to play at Warped Tour and hear from every artist they met that his band was an inspiration to them. Linkin Park's formula has always been to be theirselves. They've always wanted to be a band that broke down the barries of genre and became its own thing. Part of that has been to experiment with new things to keep things fresh and make music that excites them as opposed to make music that has been succesful to them in the past. A couple of weeks ago Chester started working with a vocal coach for the first time in his life. Mostly because a lot of the songs they'll be playing are pretty stripped down and hopefully they'll play intimate sessions. Thanks to him, his range has expanded significantly. Chester @ Music Choice 100: Kiiara's Heavy Feature | Heavy Music Video Julia Michaels' participation in the writing process of 'Heavy' sparkled the idea of having a female vocalist in the song. They heard her sing and asked her to be on the song but she "didn't wanted to be out in front." Chester did a version of the song all the way through in case they didn't find someone else for the song, but they happened to be introduced to Kiiara who is a big Linkin Park fan and has a voice as unique as Julia's, so they had her to come in and do the vocals. 'Heavy' is not a heavy song, but it was more violent and intense making this video than any other Linkin Park video. He's got into fist fights with himself and other people, threw a lamp into a television set, and "wrecked so much stuff it was awesome." Mike also gave an interview to LPAssociation which can be read here. We will gladly highlight Chester on SiriusXM if anyone has a link to this interview. We cannot find it, as of right now. Feel free to post links to the other interviews if you come across them.
  17. Even though 'Heavy' was just released, we're already itching for the next taste of new music. Well, it might just be that we've had one for quite awhile. You may recall that around in August of last year, Linkin Park was in the studio with pop artist Blackbear. We found some proposed Blackbear x LP merchandise on his snapchat, and also something else... This video is a reel from his snapchat story back in August. At the time, we figured it was a clip of his own song that he took to the studio to work on with Linkin Park. The clip of music starts at three seconds. We didn't think much of it back then, and until now we figured it was a forgotten collaboration (looking at you, Martin Garrix). Now that we've seen the tracklist for the band's upcoming One More Light, we're now thinking otherwise. Track 7 on the album is called 'Sorry For Now,' and if you listen to this clip, you can hear a tuned-up Mike Shinoda sing: [i'm s]orry for now That I couldn't be around Sometimes things refuse to go the way we planned. Was this clip part of 'Sorry For Now'? It seems all to coincidental that the line has the words "Sorry for now" in it. What do you think? After hearing 'Heavy,' this does seem to fit the sound of the record. What are your thoughts? If this does end up being the song, what are your thoughts on it? Better than 'Heavy?' Worse? Follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page for the latest updates on the band's new music. We expect the band will be going on a North American tour sometime this summer, and they've confirmed a November Asia Tour, so be on the look out for tour dates from those.
  18. Things JUST calmed down, y u do this
  19. Anyway... I imagine a lot of people (at least here) are going to prefer the instrumental to the full version based on the criticisms I've seen.
  20. I was reading a comment on a different site earlier, and I do think Mike is being a bit unreasonable with the whole "genre is dead" thing. Like, you don't need a justification for making this kind of sound. Just downright say this is what you wanted to do. It's okay to compare works - that's the purpose of genre, to categorize as a means to separate different types of things that allow for comparison. Genre can be deda for sake of listening, but when something is as strikingly poppy as this, call it pop. It's almost like he's afraid of calling it what it is, as if he has something to be ashamed of. Maybe that goes into what Geki said earlier that he was bashing this very music three years ago. I believe the band wouldn't put out something they weren't happy with, regardless of the circumstances. I know it's not the case, but Mike seemingly using that phrase as a scapegoat has been bothering me lately.

  22. Rob hugged her. I doubt they hadn't met before.
  23. Love the song. The way Chester belts "Holding on" when the first chorus comes in is magical. Love the harmonies in the chorus too. The way the drums in the bridge is just awesome too.
  24. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ its been two years, I'm rusty
