  1. You find lots of random stuff in these random decade-year old folders... Just wait until we find Mark's drug folder from 2006, then shit will really kick off
  2. Back to where it all began. Mike's bringing the Post Traumatic Tour to Japan for two shows at the Summer Sonic festival this weekend, the first being in Osaka. These Summer Sonic shows have been a long time coming - back when they were announced in January, they were the very first shows Mike announced on this tour. Before Identity LA and the KROQ Weenie Roast, we were all anxiously waiting for August to come, as we were all under the impression the tour would be starting here. Luckily, we've been treated to a great tour so far and things are only set to continue. This show follows the completion of Mike's run of Asian shows, and they proved to all be special. The first show in Beijing saw the introduction of the censored songs, with the live version of 'Good Goodbye' being performed for the first time on this tour in place of the mashup with 'Bleed It Out.' 'Crossing A Line' and 'Hands Held High' were both dropped from the set due to political and censorship laws. Mike continued to Shanghai, which is now the biggest show page in the Mike Shinoda section now, with an insane amount of cool stuff happening. Mike rapped the third verse of 'Until It Breaks' over the extended intro of 'Kenji' to replace the 'Hands Held High' verse, and led the crowd in a 'Faint' sing-a-long during the encore in response to the Beijing crowd's singing. In addition, Mike gave LPLive a shoutout during 'Ghosts!' He talked about how he was telling Dan and Matt about us, and when they found out we document all the little mistakes they make, they both said a resounding "Oh no." Don't worry boys, we don't bite. And you clearly haven't messed up as much as Joe messed up the 'Numb' intro. Or the 'Crawling' intro. Or the 'In The End' intro. Or any intro, for that matter. Anyway... Mike continued, saying how it shows how much we care about them and the live show, and even said it's one of the reasons he has fun playing shows and changing little things! We're glad to have made an impact on the live shows. Now don't mess up any intros. The tour ended in Chengdu, and, because there are pretty much ZERO videos from the show, we're not quite sure if anything particularly special happened. What we DO know is that 'Kenji' was dropped and 'Crossing A Line' was added back in. If you find any videos from Chengdu, let us know! While we have virtually zero videos from both Beijing and Chengdu, two full sources from Shanghai were uploaded to Youku. We've ripped one of them and uploaded it to our new YouTube channel - we'll upload the second one later tonight. More info on our new YouTube channel later in the post, but check out the full Shanghai show above. This isn't Mike's first time at Summer Sonic. Linkin Park has performed at the Summer Sonic a total of three times over the years. The first was the iconic 2006 Tour, the only true shows the band played in that two year period between the end of the Meteora cycle in 2004 and the release of Minutes To Midnight. These shows are well known for a number of reasons, particularly the world premieres of 'QWERTY' and 'Reading My Eyes.' Additionally, these were the first shows to not close with 'One Step Closer,' instead closing with 'Breaking The Habit.' The piano versions of 'My December' and 'Pushing Me Away' also debuted there. Mike performed with Fort Minor at these shows, as well, with Chester filling in for Skylar Grey who couldn't make it during 'Where'd You Go.' The band returned in 2009 while touring for 'New Divide,' where Dead By Sunrise performed for the first encore. The last time they were there was in 2013, performing before Metallica. These shows were shorter but still action packed - keeping up with the special moments at this festival, Mike and Chester joined Steve Aoki for the world premiere of 'A Light That Never Comes' during his set. The Summer Sonic Festivals have always been an awesome festival for the band, and we're sure the tradition will continue here. These shows are already known as the first shows Mike announced he would be playing, so they already hold an important part of LP history. Because Mike isn't headlining, we can probably expect a shorter show. Mike's only played one other festival show so far: the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival in South Korea. Despite being a shorter show, the setlist was full of energy; and we know this because we have both an awesome audio recording courtesy of NINLive and a full video recording that popped up a few days ago. While missing some big moments like 'Sorry For Now' and 'When They Come For Me,' tracks like 'Roads Untraveled' and the run of 'About You,' 'Over Again,' and 'Papercut' all made sure there were plenty of highlights. One interesting thing we'll have to watch out for is whether or not Mike plays 'Kenji' at these shows. The song has never been performed in Japan, and given it's ties to Mike's Japanese heritage, it seems like too perfect of an opportunity to pass up. Plus, it'd keep Mike's track record of playing a different set at every stop of this tour - and we're not kidding. Every show has been different in some respect. Will the streak continue? Watch Linkin Park perform 'QWERTY' at the Summer Sonic festival in 2006. Definitely some of the most iconic shows in Linkin Park history. Is anyone going to this show? It's definitely going to be a special one. Mike plays the second night of Summer Sonic the night after in Chiba and will then wrap up the Asian leg of this tour in Singapore on the 22nd. Mike then heads straight to Europe for another three festivals in France and England before going back into headline mode for the rest of the continent. After a month's break, Mike will be touring through North America. We'll be keeping you updated on everything that happens at this show, so be be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! We just launched the new LPLive Archive YouTube Channel that is loaded with hours of rare content from the Linkin Park world, and we'll also be uploading videos from the Post Traumatic Tour there, too. 3. In an interview recently, famous guitarist Slash (Guns N' Roses) revealed that for his 2010 solo album, he had collaborated with Chester for a song called 'Doctor Alibi.' According to Slash, the song was recorded, however Linkin Park's management at the time didn't allow for it to be released. Instead, 'Doctor Alibi' features the late Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. Slash explained: "But speaking of Chester [bennington], and I forgot all about this until just recently, when I was doing my first solo record, I worked with a lot of different people, some of whom, for whatever reason, didn’t end up on the record. One was with Chester. We did a song and Linkin Park at the time didn’t allow it to happen, so I did it with Lemmy [Kilmister]. The guy who engineered my demos sent it to me and I sent it to Chester’s family. But it was a trip cause the song [called “Doctor Alibi”] really speaks to his state of mind." He continued, explaining that he'd like to release the song with Chester's vocals, but it's up to his family now to decide: "His family has got it so it would be totally up to them. It was really good. He was awesome. It would be fine with me if they wanted to [release] it. Musically it’s basically the same as the Lemmy song, but the lyrics are really poignant." The lyrics of the song are very true to what Chester went through, and it'd certainly be a very cool yet powerful performance to hear. Would you like to hear 'Doctor Alibi' with Chester? Hopefully we'll be able to see the song get released soon. 'Doctor Alibi' was released on Slash's eponymous 2010 record. His upcoming record, featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, entitled Living The Dream, is out next month. 4. Some pretty big things we missed: LPLive shoutout before Ghosts! 'Ghosts' has had an extended intro this entire tour that we missed lol 'Until It Breaks' rapped over the Ext. Intro of 'Kenji' Short piano outro after WFTE/WYG (seems like a mistake Mike styled out) Mike forgot to censor himself during 'Bleed It Out' 'Faint' came after 'Petrified.' Inspired by the fans singing in Beijing, Mike wanted to include that in the show somehow EDIT: Found another source, further back but better quality overall. 5. Grab the spoons and forks, because the next stop on the Post Traumatic Tour is the home of my favorite Chinese place (shoutout Sichuan Cottage). Mike's next show is in Chengdu, China at the Chengdu Performing Arts Center on August 16, the sixth stop on the tour. You can put your pens and pencils down, because this is the first time Mike's ever been in Chengdu - he's never even been in the province! No history lesson today, so let's skip straight to the real meat: the current tour. These last couple of shows in China alone have been incredible, but this entire tour has been a blast to cover. Similar to Linkin Park's One More Light European Tour, Mike has currently placed a different set at every show of the tour so far. Whether it be big differences or small ones, each show has been unique. Hong Kong began the tour with a bumpy start, but nonetheless it debuted a bunch of changes to the set, including the full versions of 'Roads Untraveled' and 'When They Come For Me,' as well as new extensions for 'Kenji' and 'Place To Start.' It was also the debut of Mike's new band mates Dan Mayo and Matt Harris. Bangkok came next, the first show with no technical difficulties. Mike introduced 'Petrified' (as well as the 2015 Remix of 'Introduction') to open the encore at this show. Dan performed a drum solo over the extended bridge of 'Sorry For Now' in place of the demo verse, and 'Hands Held High' was added over the extended intro of 'Kenji.' Mike then played his first festival show of the tour in Incheon, delivering a short but powerful set. That brings us to these run of China shows. Despite the lack of footage from these shows (we've literally found videos of two full songs from the two shows, 'In The End' and 'Remember The Name'), we know that a lot has gone on. Beijing kicked it off with one of the biggest crowd receptions Mike has gotten, ever. Despite censored songs (and 'Crossing A Line' being dropped, because apparently the Chinese government doesn't want people crossing lines), the crowd sang loud and proud. Instead of censoring 'Bleed It Out,' he dropped the verse completely and instead played the live version of 'Good Goodbye' for the first time on tour! The fans in Beijing were incredible, staying at the venue for almost an hour singing Linkin Park songs even after Mike's set was done. The venue had to ask the crew to make the fans leave! That's something that really has never happened before. Fans at the next - and most recent - show in Shanghai didn't cause quite a commotion, but still met outside to sing 'One More Light' for Chester. This show's setlist was unique too, featuring the return of the 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup and an acapella of 'Faint' to open the encore. Mike walked out onstage to a crowd of people singing Linkin Park songs and decided to lead them in it, performing 'Faint' for the first time in a solo set and for the first time as an acapella. Mark wrote a great recap of the Chinese tour, so be sure to read that for a more in-depth look at what's been going on. Regardless of if he keeps this up, this tour has really kept us on our toes and has been a really incredible one so far. We'd, of course, love for more daily changes, but hey, who's really keeping track? (just kidding. we are. your move, Shinoda) Another part of the set that changes every night is the story Mike tells before 'In The End.' He always has a different anecdote, but he always ends up talking about Chester. Check out his speech from Hong Kong, where he speaks endearingly about his best friend. For this show, we don't quite know what to expect. We can count on a couple things: songs being censored (this includes 'Welcome,' 'Watching As I Fall,' 'When They Come For Me,' 'About You,' 'Over Again,' 'Make It Up As I Go,' 'Bleed It Out' (if it's performed), 'Petrified,' and 'Remember The Name') and no 'Crossing A Line,' because, y'know, lines are the enemy of communist regimes. We get it. The thing about the changes with the set is that they have genuinely come out of the blue. 'Petrified' popped out of nowhere, and we fully expected Mike to just censor 'Bleed It Out' instead of performing the live version of 'Good Goodbye.' Now that the 'Faint' acapella has happened, pretty much any song Mike's ever recorded is game too as a fun little moment. 'In Stereo' was included on a poll a few months back when Mike asked what songs fans wanted to hear on the tour. The other three songs have all been performed ('Roads Untraveled,' 'Sorry For Now,' and 'Petrified'), and considering that Mike's playing 'Petrified' completely by himself on stage, that slot could easily be anything from Mike's 2015 Fort Minor setlist. We'd say 'In Stereo' has an upper hand before the rest come, but fans have been adamant about hearing the 2015 remix of 'Cigarettes' at some point, as well as tracks like 'High Voltage.' Mike has said he could perform tracks like 'Battle Symphony' or 'Nobody Can Save Me' but said he'd probably get uncomfortable singing them every night simply because of their meaning, which is understandable. Regardless, they're on the table... as is pretty much everything else. Anyone heading to the show? Mike's officialy two-thirds of the way through the tour, with just 3 shows left: two in Japan for the Summer Sonic festival and one last Asian stop in Singapore. Mike heads straight to Europe afterwards, kicking his tour off there with a festival in France and then the Reading and Leeds festivals in England. From there on, it's mostly headlining shows across the country, stopping in Austria, Russia, Sweden, and Germany, ending it off opening for Thirty Seconds To Mars in Italy. After that, it's a one month break until an extensive tour across the United States. It may be a bit before you get to see Mike live depending on where you live, but to hold you over, check this out: the first audience recording from the tour, recorded in South Korea and the Pentaport Rock Festival! The quality is fantastic, and there are plenty of highlights even though it was a shorter festival set (listen to 'Papercut,' because goddamn did this song get a level up with a backing band now). 6. The Post Traumatic Tour is chugging ahead (though the trains in Beijing aren't)! Mike's tour in Asia has hit it's halfway point, the fifth stop taking Mike and co. to Shanghai, China, where they'll perform at the Jing'an Sports Center on August 14. Mike's no stranger to Shanghai - he's played more shows there than in any other city in China. Linkin Park has performed there three times in the past, the first being in 2007 on the Minutes To Midnight Tour. While a pretty standard show for the era, Mike listed it as being one of his favorite Linkin Park moments of that decade. In a blog post, he wrote: "Upon arrival in Shanghai, we knew the show was going to be special…but we had no idea. When we were met at the airport, our promotion and label staff informed us that the last two rock bands to play China at the time were Nine Inch Nails and The Rolling Stones. They told us the largest concert by a foreign rock artist was The Stones show, which was attended by roughly 12,000 people. We were about to play a show at Shanghai Stadium, which was easily two times that size." Read Mike's full post on the show page - you know any show guarded by police is bound to be an important one. The band returned in 2009 while promoting 'New Divide,' where they first faced censorship laws. In China, the government has strict censorship laws in place that require song lists to be submitted for approval. Because of this, 'Given Up' and 'Hands Held High' were not approved and had to be dropped. This led to a rare occurrence: 'From The Inside' opening the show (after 'Session')! The band were scheduled to return in 2011 on the A Thousand Suns Tour, but they were banned in China after meeting the Dalai Lama in early 2011. Things changed four years later, when Linkin Park embarked on a Chinese Tour in support of The Hunting Party, which was the first tour sponsored by Mercedes-AMG. This time, instead of dropping songs, they were just censored. This included 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name.' An interesting piece of information: the list of songs the band submitted to the government for approval leaked, featuring a bunch of interesting titles. Songs like 'A Place For My Head,' 'A Light That Never Comes,' and 'With You' that the band had played at some point on the cycle were on the list even though they weren't played. Also included was 'Keys To The Kingdom,' a song that never ended up being performed live, which means the band considered playing it at some point! Watch the opening song - 'One Step Closer' - from Shanghai 2007, what was the biggest rock show to ever take place in China at the time. A truly monumental moment for the band and rock music. Shanghai is the second stop in China on Mike's Asian Tour. The previous show was in Beijing, met by a truly incredible crowd. Not only were their cheers for Chester the loudest yet, but nearly a third of the fans stayed in the venue for almost an hour singing Linkin Park songs. The venue had to ask the crew to ask the fans to leave in the end! That's a true love for music (though we don't recommend you try to organize an event like that). Mike got by with the censorship, censoring 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name' in the same way he did in 2015, and 'When They Come For Me' in the same way they did in 2011 when they performed the song on Saturday Night Live. Other songs that got the censorship treatment include 'Watching As I Fall,' 'About You,' 'Over Again,' 'Make It Up As I Go,' and 'Petrified.' Mike pulled an awesome move by performing the live version of 'Good Goodbye' for the first time since 2017, instead of doing the mashup with 'Bleed It Out' (likely because of censorship concerns). It's an awesome thing to hear - hell, we'd even venture to say it's better than the mashup. Matt does an awesome job on the vocals! Censorship did come at a cost, though: 'Hands Held High' could not be performed over the extended intro of 'Kenji,' and, as mentioned before, the 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup can't be performed. Mike's handling it like a professional, though. 'Crossing A Line' appears to have been dropped for an unknown reason (it's unlikely it was dropped due to censorship), as well. We can probably expect a similar setlist at this show. Technically speaking, though, every show of the tour so far has had a different setlist in some capacity. Whether or not that continues is something we'll have to see! Mike has been giving really beautiful speeches before 'In The End' about Chester at every show. In Beijing, Mike talked about Xero, his Linkin Park bandmates, and, of course, Chester. He has something different to say at every show and it's beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. A beautiful talk with Mike here, as well as one of the loudest chants for Chester this tour has had yet. Is anyone going to the show? Updates are scarce because of the media bans placed in China, but we'll keep ya covered. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world! After this show, Mike has one more show lined up in China in Chengdu before he heads to Japan for the Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo and Osaka before wrapping up the Asian leg of the tour in Singapore. From there, Mike heads straight to Europe for a handful of festival shows and headlining shows. Then there's a month's break before he embarks on an extensive North American Tour! We'll be covering all of it, so check back if you want the latest news. Check out the rest of Mike Shinoda's touring schedule here.
  7. Well if you look at past LP singles, they don't really go for the song that makes the most sense as a single sometimes. 'The Catalyst' and 'Guilty All The Same' certainly weren't the prime choices for their respective records but they captured something about the album that the band wanted to make listeners aware of. 'Crossing A Line' makes sense to me as least in the sense that Mike wanted to show this isn't an album about depression and pain, but the journey of moving forward. That's the purpose CAL serves both thematically and in placement on the album.
  8. That site's fake. They pop up a lot for Asian and European festivals, just a bunch of pre-programmed comments in the chat to try and get your credit card info.
  9. Despite having several videos out now for many songs, Post Traumatic has had only one true single: 'Crossing A Line.' Mike is gearing up to release the second single of the album, which will be 'Make It Up As I Go featuring K.Flay. The song is expected to impact radio on August 28. This info comes from All Access which his historically been very accurate at revealing upcoming singles for a vast number of artists - including Linkin Park. It's safe to assume that this info is true and that the single will be released on or at least around that day. No single artwork has been revealed yet - we're not sure if there will be one, as 'Crossing The Line' was released (alongside 'Nothing Makes Sense Anymore') with the Post Traumatic album cover instead of unique art. Excited to hear the track on the radio? With the single release we can probably expect a music video to come relatively soon thereafter, too! The latest video Mike shared was for the instrumental 'Brooding,' directed by Mark Fiore. What other songs do you think could be singles from the record? Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates, and join the LPLive Discord for discussion with fans around the world!
  10. Here's how I want to see the set by the end of the tour. Brooding Welcome (Ext. Intro) Place To Start (Ext. Outro) Nothing Makes Sense Anymore Watching As I Fall When They Come For Me Kenji (Ext. Intro) Castle Of Glass (Piano Style) Ghosts Roads Untraveled Sorry For Now (Ext. Remember The Name Running From My Shadow All PT songs, just a few songs longer than the current set.
  11. And we're off! Mike Shinoda's Post Traumatic Asian Tour has kicked off and it's time to get things rolling for real. After a shaky but strong start in Hong Kong, Mike's tour is making its second stop on August 9 in Bangkok, Thailand at the GMM Live House @ Central World. Mike's first show in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, kicked off the tour two nights ago. It was a bit of a rough start - so much so that the show almost didn't happen. Upon getting to Hong Kong, Mike and his band - Dan Mayo and Matt Harris - set up at a rehearsal studio in order to get some last minute prep in. Long story short: a lot of things went wrong and several keyboards and guitar pedals were fried - effectively, the gear was unusable. Instead of cancelling, however, the band powered through and improvised some things. They still played a full setlist, perhaps missing some elements; one noticeable thing that was missing were the guitar effects at the end of 'Watching As I Fall.' It's likely some other things were missing, but we can't really tell yet... because we don't really understand what everything's supposed to sound like! The setlist for Hong Kong was essentially the same set Mike played in New York City; the Post Traumatic release show. All it was missing was that impromptu 'Hands Held High' verse, but there were many changes that really made up for it. For one, it was the first performance with Mike's new band members! The drums added a load of energy and drive into the set (though those crash cymbals on 'Welcome' might need to be brought down a bit), especially in some of the more hip-hop oriented tracks like 'Watching As I Fall' and the 'Waiting For The End' and 'Where'd You Go' mashup, while Matt Harris added a lot of awesome layering and backing vocals to the mix. Many new guitar parts were present in plenty of songs, like during that WFTE/WYG mashup, the 'Good Goodbye' and 'Bleed It Out' mashup, and 'Castle Of Glass.' With the backing band, Mike has effectively started playing the studio version of 'Papercut,' complete with the heavy guitars and pounding drums - on top of that, Matt adds in the backing vocals that previous have only been done by Jon Green at the Hollywood Bowl show! Matt does some great vocals, especially in tracks like 'Crossing A Line' and 'Ghosts.' While no new songs were added into the set, plenty of new additions and details really made it feel like a brand new show. Welcome returns to the set: 'I.O.U.' being performed for the second time ever, while 'Running From My Shadow' brought the show to an epic end with Dan jamming big to take the show out. New additions include the full versions of 'When They Come For Me' and 'Roads Untraveled' being performed for the first time! 'When They Come For Me' was performed for its entirety for the first time since Las Vegas 2014, Mike adding in the bridge and outro after dropping them from previous sets. Mike played guitar on the track for the first time, playing a new part during the last chorus and outro - would be nice to see that louder and with some distortion at upcoming shows (perhaps it was meant to, but the gear problem led to that not happening?). 'Roads Untraveled' was performed in full for the first time... ever. The version Linkin Park performed at the Hollywood Bowl lacked the ending, and until now Mike skipped that guitar refrain before Chester's verse. With the full band, the full version is now possible, and it sounds huge. Other small changes include a piano intro to 'In The End' as Mike talked emotionally about Chester, a new extended intro featuring an atmospheric synth and guitar for 'Kenji,' and an extended outro for 'Place To Start' the featured a short synth solo by Mike. New production and a new band = some awesome stuff. Watch Mike perform the full version of 'Roads Untraveled' for the first time ever from the first show of the tour in Hong Kong. Thailand is sure to bring some big energy for this show - it's been nearly seven years since Mike last performed there. Linkin Park last performed there in 2011, on the A Thousand Suns tour. It seems no one can really catch a break on an Asian Tour, as Linkin Park faced some problems during this tour, too, though these issues were a bit different. Phoenix was suffering from food poisoning and had to miss the show - the first time any Linkin Park member had missed an entire show. This was likely the reason 'Blackout' was dropped from the set. The band has visited Bangkok three times over their career, the other times thankfully were less problem-prone. The first show was in 2004 on the Meteora International Tour, which featured the return of 'Figure.09' into the setlists as well as a cover of 'Wish' by Nine Inch Nails. The band returned three years later for the Minutes To Midnight tour in 2007 to kick off that leg's Asian Tour, though the set had to be shortened a bit due to starting late. This resulted in 'Crawling' and 'The Little Things Give You Away' being dropped. As mentioned before, this'll be Mike's first show since 2011 in the country, so the energy is bound to be big. This is the only video that exists from Bangkok 2004. The short source is a proshot of 'Don't Stay' with its epic Gacela Intro opening the show and 'Lying From You' - super old-school! Is anyone going to the show? As far as the setlist goes, we can probably expect more-or-less the same setlist as Hong Kong, this time hopefully with all the gear in order. Mike said that it's very likely that the setlist will change over time, so who knows when new elements start coming in - we'll have to wait and see! After this show, Mike heads to Incheon, South Korea to play the Incheon Pentaport Rock Fest, performing before Nine Inch Nails. Then, a three-show run through China comes, with two shows in Japan for the Summer Sonic festivals in Tokyo and Osaka before wrapping the tour up in Singapore. Mike and co. then head straight to Europe for several shows throughout the continent. After a month's break, Mike will return in October to kick off the newly-announced North American leg of the Post Traumatic Tour that heads all over the United States as well as making its first two stops in Canada. 12. After lots of debate and uncertainty about what to do with this, we're splitting the Over Again/Papercut mashup into two separate entries. Here's what it's going to look like now: KROQ Weenie Roast + Identity LA: - Over Again (Transition Ending) - Papercut (Shortened (No 1st Chorus or 2nd Verse); Over Again Ending) Amoeba Records -> Present - Over Again (Shortened (No 2nd Verse); Transition Ending) - Papercut (Shortened (No 1st Chorus or 2nd Verse); Over Again Ending) Also fixed the order of the "Shortened" tag for 'About You'
  13. Just wanna note that east coast comment is referring to me, I can’t guarantee any Nick’s will be in attendance See yall in NYC and Philly!
  14. It's time, ladies and gentlemen. After months of campaigning, promo shows, music releases, and more, it's our time to shine. Mike Shinoda is officially kicking off the first leg of the Post Traumatic Tour on August 7 in Kowloon City, Hong Kong at Star Hall, the first solo headlining show of the tour as well as the first show of the Post Traumatic Asian Tour. First, the backstory: it's been quite awhile since Mike was last in Hong Kong. The last time he was there was when Linkin Park performed there at the end of their Living Things World Tour in 2013, performing in Chek Lap Kok as well as holding the 9th LPU Summit there, performing a soundcheck of 'Victimized' (with 'QWERTY'), 'The Catalyst' with an outro jam, and the intro of 'In The End.' This was the fourth time the band had performed there, the first being back in 2004 on the Meteora International Tour, where they performed an eclectic setlist including a cover of Nine Inch Nails' 'Wish' and an unconfirmed performance of 'P5hng Me A*wy.' They returned three years later at the end of 2007, during the Minutes To Midnight Asian Tour, where the band performed a strong setlist, including an epic encore that opened with 'One Step Closer' and closed with 'Bleed It Out.' Hong Kong was the first stop on the A Thousand Suns Asian Tour in 2011, the final leg of the tour. That set was strong as well, featuring an epic encore that featured 'When They Come For Me,' 'Papercut,' and 'Crawling,' amongst others. It's been almost 5 years since Mike was last in Hong Kong, so the fans have definitely been waiting for a comeback - hopefully that anticipation translates to energy at the show! Watch the band perform 'The Catalyst' at the 9th LPU Summit in Hong Kong in 2013. Cool outro jam at the end of the track that's never been done since. This show is definitely going to be a big one, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it's the start of the actual tour. The promo run is over, and now the big guns are coming out. According to an livestream Mike did on the JOOX app exclusively for fans in Hong Kong and Thailand, this show marks the start of "phase two" of the Post Traumatic promotion, "phase one" being the release of music and the first promo shows. What we can expect: upgraded production from what we've seen with the promo shows he's done over the last few months, perhaps live debuts of new songs from Post Traumatic that haven't been played yet, and new band members onstage! That's right. In case you missed it, Mike will be joined by two musicians onstage: Dan Mayo and Matthias Harris. Dan Mayo is going to be performing on the drums, adding a new live element to the shows percussion ('Hold It Together' is a song that could really benefit from having live drums), likely both electronic and acoustic. Mayo has been touring with his band TATRAN for the last few months, so he'll definitely be able to deliver confidently live, too; and he's pretty damn good! On keyboards, guitars, and backing vocals is Matthias Harris. While not as active as Mayo is, Harris definitely has shown his chops before. He released an EP of acapella covers a few years back, and has done a series of one-man band covers on his YouTube channel. It'll definitely be exciting to see what these guys will add to the sound of the show! Phoenix recently added in guitar for 'Running From My Shadow' at Mike's recent show at LoveLoud, and it sounded great - hopefully that'll be the norm from now on! Watch Mike perform 'Running From My Shadow' with Phoenix at the LoveLoud festival in Salt Lake City, Utah. Live guitar is a great addition to the song - hopefully it's something we'll see added as a norm now! Setlist-wise, it'll be interesting to see if Mike's changed much up! The setlist has been pretty static with various additions throughout the cycle, ever since he debuted the full set at Identity LA. Lots of great songs have been included in the set, some being performed for the first time, like 'Sorry For Now' and the studio version of 'Kenji.' More songs were slowly added in; the initial set featured all the songs from the Post Traumatic EP ('Place To Start,' 'Over Again,' and 'Watching As I Fall') as well as 'Crossing A Line' and 'About You.' Eventually, 'Ghosts,' 'Running From My Shadow,' and 'Make It Up As I Go' were added in as well. Mike even decided to perform 'I.O.U.' for the first time last minute during his album release show at in New York City - which has been the only full solo show thus far. The only pre-release song not performed yet is 'Nothing Makes Sense Anymore.' Along with 'Nothing Makes Sense Anymore,' perhaps we'll see the live debuts of several more songs. It'll be impossible to tell how much the set has changed until we see it executed live, but we can sure guess. Mike released videos for 'Promises I Can't Keep' and 'Brooding,' which would be welcome additions to the set. 'Hold It Together' would be a great addition now that we have live drums, as well. That leaves 'Lift Off,' 'World's On Fire,' and 'Can't Hear You Now' as well that have yet to be performed: a total of seven songs from Post Traumatic yet to be performed. 'Lift Off' may be performed in some form - Mike's playing with the Deftones later this year in November for their Dia de Los Deftones festival, so it'd be a no-brainer to perform that with Chino Moreno there. 'Brooding' could fit in as an opening song, either for the show or encore with that cool new music video as a backdrop. The other tracks could fit in anywhere else, really; perhaps we'll see them, maybe we won't. There is, of course, a load of Linkin Park and Fort Minor songs we'd also love to see Mike perform live, but... we think he should prioritize the Post Traumatic songs before he delivers more Linkin Park and Fort Minor tracks. It is the Post Traumatic tour, after all! But hey, if we see 'Cigarettes' or 'High Voltage' (or a rotating verse spot) in the set, we won't be complaining. 'I.O.U.' was the latest song from Post Traumatic to be debuted live. Mike added it into the set last minute - what song from the album do you want to see performed live? This show will only be the start of what is expected to be a huge tour around the world. The Asian tour alone will cover pretty much the rest of August, Mike heading to Thailand after this show before performing the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival in South Korea and making other stops in China, Japan, and Singapore over the next few weeks. Right after the Singapore show, Mike flies to Europe for another handful of shows which include festivals in France, England, and Italy and some headlining shows in Germany, Sweden, Russia, and Austria. A U.S. Tour is expected to be coming soon, too, likely in the fall (around the same time the Dia de Los Deftones festival is). After that, Mike'll probably take a bit off before resuming the tour next year. Still a handful of places to go - he wants to go to Australia, and it certainly wouldn't be too weird to see another European Tour next year too. Is anyone going to the show? 15. Nope - all the songs on Reanimation got music videos too, so 'Opening' and 'Ntr/Mssion' also have videos.
  16. Cool. Was going through the people Mike follows and he was actually one of the people I looked at as a potential guy. Would've included him in the main post but I thought he was going to keep touring with his current band. Looking forward to seeing what he has to offer. Guitarist and keyboardist, too. Seems like everything's just about covered - wonder what the new possibilities will be.
  17. Following up with the visuals for Post Traumatic, Mike has released another music video, this time for the instrumental track 'Brooding.' Directed by Rob Daly and Mark Fiore, this video only features one actor but is definitely the most artistic one yet. Interesting to see where these videos are going - still plenty more to come. What are your thoughts on the video? 'Brooding' is a song that hasn't been performed live yet, but perhaps it will be when Mike kicks off the first leg of the Post Traumatic Tour on Tuesday in Hong Kong. 18. 8/3 EDIT: We have our first official member of Mike's touring crew! Drummer Dan Mayo from the band TARTAN will be laying down the beats for Mike on his upcoming tour. Dan is an insane drummer with loads of groove - check out his videos on his Instagram. He originally hails from Tel Aviv, Israel and has been on the road with his current band for the last few months, so he'll definitely be ready to deliver at these shows. Also joining Mike is guitarist and keyboard player Matthias Harris. The English musician will be helping out with a lot of the live layering, as well as contributing to live vocals! He doesn't post much music but he does seem like a pretty chill guy. Check out his Instagram. He used to post acapella videos on YouTube, and has an acapella EP out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Last month in an interview with Kerrang, and recently in a JOOX live chat, Mike claimed that after LoveLoud, starting with his tour in Asia, he'll be adding two members to the live set. He's also said that they won't be anyone we know - but does that mean it's completely fresh faces, or will there be some big names we just hadn't thought of? Let's have a discussion, because the prospect of new members means a lot of things. Firstly: who are they? Are they genuinely new faces or are they some musicians from other bands Mike is friends with? Next, what does this mean for the sets? Different songs might be able to be played with live members of the band. Let's start with the big question: who will be joining Mike onstage? We don't actually have any names for people we think it could be (the only person that it could potential be that we know of is Jon Green, who has been in South Africa as of the last month, so it seems unlikely), but we can tell you who it isn't to rule some people out: Linkin Park: We know it won't be Brad, Phoenix, Joe, or Rob; we obviously all know them. grandson, K.Flay, MGK, Chino Moreno: All are busy touring or making new music. Darren King: The former MUTEMATH drummer guests on 'Hold It Together,' but he's doing a solo tour in August. We tried doing some snooping on Mike's instagram to see if he follows any artists who might potentially be it... but from our initial search there's no one Mike followed recently who is available to tour in August. What we can discount is people who are touring in August or are fully committed to another music project that is working on new music. So what do you think? Are we going to see completely new faces - as in Mike's friends who aren't already in a band OR new musicians who try out for the part - or will it be established musicians who just aren't associated with the Linkin Park crew? Additionally, what roles do you think they will fill? The drum pad and keyboard on the opposite side of Mike's live set up has literally gotten ZERO usage. The pads are meant to be used during the bridge of 'Crossing A Line,' but Mike hasn't gotten around to using them yet. Would make perfect sense to get a percussionist on there to play some electronic drums on several songs and give that part of the setup some love. Additionally, another musician who could handle keyboards and guitars also seems very likely given how layer-heavy a lot of Mike's discography is. In this video of the soundcheck from Mike's Gramercy Theater show, you can see that he planned on using those pads for the bridge of 'Crossing The Line.' A dedicated percussionist could add a cool element to the show! Next, what does the implication of new musicians bring? More hands on deck = a wider variety of songs that can be played. Mike has said in the past for Linkin Park sets that songs like 'Skin To Bone' and 'Robot Boy' would need 6 Shinodas in order to be performed live. Now I'm not saying we'll see those songs, but they certainly could become possibilities. Additionally, it'll lower Mike's reliance on playback instrumentals to add a little color into the performances. A drummer is definitely necessary for 'Hold It Together,' and an additional keyboardist or guitar player would sound great on 'Promises I Can't Keep' and 'Can't Hear You Now.' There isn't anything that Mike can't necessarily play by himself on Post Traumatic if he keeps going ahead with the format of the show, but like I said before, it'll add a new depth and a more human element to the music. What else in the discography could be opened up with new members? Quite a few Linkin Park songs that aren't too rocky could probably be played. For what's already in the set, 'Roads Untraveled' and 'Castle Of Glass' could get song guitar added in with Mike playing piano still. 'Waiting For The End/Where'd You Go' could perhaps be extended to include the WFTE guitar solo. Songs Mike isn't currently playing, especially from A Thousand Suns, Living Things, and One More Light, could also be added. Mike said already that he probably won't be playing these songs, but songs like 'Nobody Can Save Me' and 'Battle Symphony' could be put played. Plenty of Fort Minor tracks could work too, like 'Red To Black,' 'There They Go,' and 'Dolla.' Mike is a mashup mastermind, so with three members of a live act he could really expand the possibilities of what he does. What do YOU think Mike could play with new members? The current piano version of 'Castle Of Glass' sounds great, but adding in guitar on top of the piano would be cool as well! Lots of songs have potential for that piano & guitar duo. Let us know what you think. Now that the Asia Tour is nearing, we expect that rehearsals will probably be in full swing in the week leading up to it. Maybe in the end there won't even be any new members at all! Who knows what'll happen. Mike's Post Traumatic Asian Tour begins on August 7 in Hong Kong and runs through the month hitting stops in South Korea, Thailand, China, Japan, and Singapore. He then heads to Europe for the remainder of the summer and will be touring North America in the fall. 19. Mike went live on the JOOX app (available only in Asia) this morning and answered some questions. It was quite a long chat (nearly an hour), so here's a summary of what he said. Lots of interesting stuff about the upcoming shows and the experiences of his recent ones. He started with playing the string intro of 'Remember The Name' on his keyboard. World Tour preparation: the first “phase” is over (getting the music into the world, getting things rolling live). The next “phase” has more production and will have new members onstage. Mike wants the show to be fun - it’ll be meaningful, but fun. Mike doesn’t want it to be sad; he wants the music to lift us up and get things out so we can look forwards. Mike is a bit sick at the moment - LoveLoud was the first show he played by himself where he was a bit sick. Every show he’s played has been a different experience. The show’s slowly changing and getting better, but with each one he learns something new about how to make it better. Mike's planning on making a music video for every song. Not sure when he's going to be dropping a music video for 'Make It Up As I Go' yet. Mike did the videos for the Post Traumatic EP songs and 'Nothing Makes Sense Anymore' by himself. For the rest, he had a few people help him out because he wanted the camera angle to be wider than he could do with his arms. Someone sent Mike a sports car on the JOOX app and he got hyped. All the promo has been great. It's pretty much his first time doing it by himself, though. Going out with the crew and management has been fun. It's a strange experience to be going into some of these places, because the last time he was in some of those places he was with Chester. Info for meet & greets (for at least Bangkok and Hong Kong) will be coming out next week. Some of Mike's favorite comedians at the moment: Kumail Nanjiani, Hannibal Buress, Louis C. K., Mike Birbiglia, John Mulaney, and Chris Hardwick. Mike likes trying out different things, like the 'Ghosts' music video. Mike wanted to do an A.I. experience with a chat-bot thing (like he did with Boris) for like two years; he wanted to do something like that for One More Light but it didn't end up working out. Mike's motto: "don't be an a-hole." Mike's advice for anyone who's going through a hard time right now: "It's not the artist's responsibility to save you... but if it's serious, you should talk to a professional. In general, be aware of negativity in situations like social media. Make the choice to not do that." Mike wishes he could go to Jakarta - he said he's played some great shows there with Fort Minor... though he's only been there with Linkin Park - 2004 and 2011! Mike drew a picture of Boris riding an elephant. He ended by noodling on his keyboard for a bit. He showed off some presets he had and played pieces of 'Crossing A Line,' 'When They Come For Me,' 'Castle Of Glass,' 'Watching As I Fall,' 'A Line In The Sand,' and 'The Little Things Give You Away.' 20. Collectors, your time has come. A vinyl version of Post Traumatic has officially been announced, and it'll be arriving August 10! Pre-orders for the vinyl are available now on the official Mike Shinoda store. The vinyl costs US$30. It's not certain how long they'll be available so if you want one, be sure to grab it as soon as possible! Awhile ago it a release date - August 10 - was posted on Amazon for the vinyl release, but at the time the real date was still in negotiations. Seems like planning it turned out for the better. 21. Seems to me it was just for time's sake. Short set for sure. COG opened another short performance at KROQ in June, I'm sure Welcome will be back in Asia and Europe (unless he trades it out for a new song)
  22. Phoenix was EPIC and the US Tour tease is dope. Announcement coming out any day now. The fact it's going to Utah tells me it's probably going to be pretty extensive.
  23. Mike's on at 6:40 MDT today. Updated the countdown and timezone conversions to be at the time his set starts!
  24. Not sure if this necessarily means more music is coming from them - it's kinda just something people say. Though I'd love to see more MS/grandson!
  25. It's late, I don't want to do actual work, and I need to procrastinate (AND I need something to distract me from playing Fortnite). In writing the latest pre-show post for LoveLoud I realized we really don't have a consolidated or reliable place for all of the interviews Mike has done over the last few months for Post Traumatic. Since Skipees is gone, I figured someone would need to make a list of these, so I'll do it! This is a consolidated list of all of the interviews Mike has done for Post Traumatic. If you find any I've missed, feel free to comment down below and I'll add them in. Dates are according to the date the interview HAPPENED, and if that is unknown then it's listed under the day the interview was released.
