  1. About the snippet--I'm glad they decided to take this direction. They're a group of six adults. They aren't singing about angst anymore, they tried the whole worldly political thing, they tried the whole profound and visionary thing...now they're just making music that has a good melody, that they can have fun with, and experiment with different sounds. As for the much earlier discussion about first singles from each album: I agree that One Step Closer is not that strong of a song, probably one of the worst on HT, but I still remember watching the world premiere of the music video on MTV, and falling in love instantly. Somewhere I Belong IS a very well done song, even now it has this feeling and these sounds that I don't get from other songs. What I've Done is good but "generic" for an LP song, and The Catalyst was good but they tried really hard to be "out there" and it takes away from it. ALSO, I HATE HATE HATE the non-album version of The Catalyst.... They get rid of one of the "Lift me up..." iterations in the bridge and that part is SO important, it brings in the bass line and builds up the drums which are fantastic. I can't listen to the non-album version.
  2. Still don't understand why LP fans are being so narrow-minded. Yes, "Living Things" does NOT sound like a Linkin Park album, but we've only heard a terrible quality leak of one song from the album. Maybe it'll be more appealing once we hear the album and understand their direction. Who knows, maybe there's a title track called "Living Things" as well, and maybe it's so amazing and LP-encompassing that they decided to name the album after it. Be pissed off about not hearing snippets, but throw them a bone when it comes to names that we don't even understand the symbolism behind yet!
  3. Haha, well, ya know... Nah but seriously they don't want anyone to hear even a likeness of the song. They took down all the covers. Didn't help that my video was the 5th video for the YouTube search of "linkin park burn it down". If anyone wants to hear it, just PM me.
  4. I made a little instrumental cover based off the leak, if anyone's interested. Disclaimer: It may skew your perception of the song, if you haven't listened to the leak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMzXvwEaPok Mods, lemme know if there's a problem with me posting this for whatever reason.
  5. If this is true, I'm not too surprised with the general lack of information and hype regarding the album or the single. This caused such a problem with their last two albums, where LP hyped up this incredibly new and unique sound, but things rarely live up to their hype. If you aren't expecting something in particular, that's one less way for you to be disappointed. The only thing they've promised so far is that it'll be more recognizable and there will be more guitar--something I believe they can deliver without disappointment.
  6. I'm expecting something kind of like Meteora, with a little less angst, a little more hope, and a lot more mature. I'm not expecting a lot of the heavier screaming (OSC bridge, Given Up bridge, etc.) because I feel like Chester already pushes himself on those songs and instead wants songs that are easier and more fun to play live. I'm expecting a good amount of Mike, I can see there being a lot more vocal harmonies cuz I feel like Mike is pretty comfortable with his voice now, but I don't expect more than 3 songs in which he raps. I'm hoping for some more piano as it helps fully saturate their melodies. I think they're overstating how much presence the guitars will have. I think they just mean that every song will have an easily hearable and recognizable guitar chord progression (kinda like just about every song in HT and Meteora did). I don't see there being a ton of solos, of any instrument, though I'm expecting to actually hear some bass. Phoenix needs some loving. Also I think we'll get maybe 2 or 3 songs with some pretty prominent scratching, but Hahn handles all the synth sounds and I'm expecting those to have a huge presence in a lot of songs. My keyword is balance, they said all the band members are content with how much everyone is being represented, which in my head means that we're going to get a much fuller, richer sound that makes it discernible what each member's contribution is. Lastly, I think the major thing they will take away from the last two albums is that they can make some BEAUTIFUL melodies, but their goal should be to incorporate those melodies to a sound which is more...well, Linkin Park.
  7. Chances are this album won't be too heavy on the rock side. A lot of mainstream 90's/00's bands have been attempting to bring rock back. Incubus, RHCP, Blink 182, they all came out with albums recently but none of them seemed to break back into the mainstream, even after moving their sound less towards the rock side. Clearly rock doesn't have a very good place in this generation, and LP would be falling into the same hole as these bands are if they went for it. But on the flip-side, maybe LP is up for the challenge?
  8. It's not bad, I like it. But yeah can't really say it beats the original.
  9. I'm sorry ATL fanboys, but Pale is definitely more epic than ATL. I'm kind of dumbstruck as to why LP didn't pursue more towards the direction of Pale with their music. The melodies are very simple but the layering, the tone, the balanced use of all the members (assuming Mike would have been rapping to the drums, and Chester would've been singing/screaming in the chorus) and the song length are all gladly welcome.
  10. He didn't literally mean country as in a nation. It's an expression. Here, I did you the liberty of citing one definition of "country" from google: Definitions of country on the Web: area: a particular geographical region of indefinite boundary (usually serving some special purpose or distinguished by its people or culture or geography); "it was a mountainous area"; "Bible country" [/englishlesson]
  11. I don't think anyone here actually cares about anyone else's personal opinion. If you want to criticize the snippets, try to do it on a MUSICAL level, not on a personal "omg i dunt lik tis, gime hybrid thery bak" level cuz that's just asking for an argument. On that note, this definitely was not what I was expecting. A lot of the music and the melodies are just...nothing new. I would say that based on these snippets, ATS has more unoriginal tracks than MTM. Both musically and melodically, these song snippets just don't seem to bring anything new. The lyrics, while seemingly generic, they do feel very inspired, so they don't bring the tracks down. But I usually look forward to listening to LP songs because they bring something completely new to my ears, and from what I've heard so far, only When They Come For Me, Jornada Del Muerto, Blackout, and The Catalyst have really done that for me. I really HOPE that the full length songs turn out to be less generic, and end up blowing me away. I still like how the other tracks sound, but I would much rather be taken to a whole new place with this album.
  12. Eh, I'm not very moved by this song. I'm always down for a good beat but it needs to be complemented by a good melody. That's something LP usually delivers on, on all of their tracks, but this song is really lacking it. The lyrics are disappointing to me, a step down from both LP and FM, and the actual vocals aren't really doing it for me. I don't dislike it but I'm just not wowed. The only thing that impressed me was the scratching at the end which complemented the beat very well. I would've preferred this to be an instrumental track with more scratching and other random elements thrown in there like a driving synth melody.
  13. I was pretty much constantly refreshing before 10:00 AM, and the tickets finally "went up" at around 10:05 AM for me, but were unavailable immediately. I was away for a few hours but now I see that the LPU post says "EDIT: THIS SHOW IS NOW SOLD OUT" at the end of it. Most likely they had maybe 10 tickets left to sell and used that as an excuse to make it look like they were giving an entirely new pre-sale opportunity. Thanks LP, see you in 2011? 2012? What to do until then...I know! I'll spend a couple hundred more on your wonderful exclusive memberships and limited edition releases. (PS: Before you all fire off, I know it's not LP's fault)
  14. I'm pretty sure they messed it up...which sucks because I have to leave in half an hour and probably won't have computer access for a few hours. Thanks so much LPU and Ticketmaster for this great service you've been pushing out!!
  15. I'm actually a little upset because I felt that the seeds from the contest and the small clip we had from before were musically brilliant and melodically beautiful, but this new clip doesn't really do it for me. Granted, this song is very long and most likely has transitions that bridge the multiple stages, but I feel like this new clip strays from the elegance of the previous clips, creates an incoherency of sorts. I do hope, however, that this is just a result of being out of context, and that the song in its entirety does complete justice.

    Puzzle #2

It's Minutes To Midnight all over again...we're all doomed.
  17. I think Mike just jizzed on us...
  18. Dunno if anyone put this online somewhere already...but here's my interpretation: Carry Me Away by Cypress Hill (feat. Mike Shinoda) I was an outcast, outsider, troublemaker A lost soul, out of control, in danger Didn't have a care in the world, my feelings were numb Never showin' emotion is easy for some I don't know how it happened, how I got to this point But I needed a way out, I was stuck in a void I needed another path or I'd self-destruct I was down on my luck, my head was so fucked A menace runnin' the streets is what I was Holdin' my heat and rollin' with the serious thugs You couldn't tell me a thing, I was like my brother Words went in one ear and out the other Slangin' and bangin' with a chip on my shoulder And insane in the brain, certified street soldier So close to the grave, at an early age Can't tell you the price I paid Oh the sky overhead's like a canvas of gray I don't know how much time I'll be given to stay From the first break of light 'til the end of the day I'm just livin' my life 'til they come carry me away I remember the late nights on the block where I came up My pops used to hate when we'd hang with them bangers Dissin' you, one day, that would become us That's just how it is when you live where we come from Fight, don't run, is the model we live by Get 'em on the ground and stomp 'em out about 10 times Shit, we was just kids back then I had no remorse for what we did back then Six of us, one car, we'd all pack in Hit the strip and go and get this shit crackin' Gun wars and drug deals, I seen 'em happen When I started losin' home boys, I wasn't laughin' I looked all around and seen none of 'em there That's when I figured out that nobody cared If we lived or died, we'd just get high and ride And I wasn't gonna let this happen one more time Oh the sky overhead's like a canvas of gray I don't know how much time I'll be given to stay From the first break of light 'til the end of the day I'm just livin' my life 'til they come carry me away My mother was there for me every step of the way She didn't judge me, she told me I'd win some day When I was at my lowest, when I had no focus She pulled me out the gutter, said I wasn't hopeless Every night she prayed for me, I was out in the street Chillin' on the corner with a hand on my heat Eyes open wide for the pigs and foes It's an everyday hazard when you hustle for dough So many nights I didn't come home, she thought the worst Maybe somebody shot me down without any remorse Maybe I hurt somebody and I was stuck in a cell And I regret all those times that I put her through hell When I reflect back on those days, my heart aches And everybody I lost or let down, I wish I could take it all back And make it better, but I can't So I try to make amends and be there through thick and thin Oh the sky overhead's like a canvas of gray I don't know how much time I'll be given to stay From the first break of light 'til the end of the day I'm just livin' my life 'til they come carry me away Come carry me away, come carry me away Come carry me away, come carry me away
  19. I think the new album will be released by the end of this summer. Why? Well first of all, Mike said that he firmly believes the album will be out in 2010. Mike hasn't always been good with release dates, but to make such a remark after what happened with the last album suggests that he realistically believes a 2010 release is possible. He knows how much the album is done better than any of us do. Second of all, track-wise, this is probably gonna be a short album. My guess is 10 tracks. Mike said a 10-track album could be likely since a lot of the songs are hitting the 4-5 minute mark and also they're aiming for quality, not quantity. So far they almost finished 5 songs for the album, and the album is said to be about halfway done. I'm not saying they're limiting themselves to 10 tracks, since they're still in the writing process, but 10 is a realistic guess. And finally, this is why I think it's gonna be out before the end of summer: On November 15th, Mike posted that they narrowed the tracks down to 20 and that they were focusing on finishing 5 of them. I'm sure they started that process sometime before that, and they just now basically finished those 5 up. It took about 2 months. Well DBS is going on tour at the end of the month, which gives them the next 2-3 weeks to narrow down the second set of 5 songs. That way, while Chester is touring, they can continue working on the music for those 5 songs, and they can also finish up the album artwork (which they've already been working on) and tie up other loose ends like making plans for the album's marketing and whatnot. After Chester gets back, they will probably only need another month and a half or so to actually finish recording the album itself. That would mean the album is in an essentially finished state in the month of April. Of course, things won't go perfectly on time, and I'm sure there's a lot of things they'll need to sort out for the album and the label before it's ready for release. Still, I think they have more than enough time to get the album out before September. My guess is...single in June, album in July.
  20. If that is indeed the tracklist, I'm psyched. I don't see how people can complain. Basically everything on that list is either brand new or in higher quality than what we already have. It's a miracle they are able to release something like this. If Stick-n-Move really is on this, I'm willing to bet it has Chester on vocals. These are Linkin Park demos, not Xero demos. If I recall, in one of the videos on one of the LPTVs or on one of the DVDs, they said something about how they had Chester sing a few songs. I would not be surprised at all if they recorded a version of Stick-N-Move with his vocals.
  21. I think it's just one of their unfinished seeds for the new album that didn't make the cut, so they decided to throw it into an LPTV episode. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard a few more of these here and there before they finally reveal any tracks from the album. I also think they definitely plan on releasing by Spring 2010. I would venture to guess now that they're done touring, they're gonna narrow their seeds down to 20 or 30, finish those songs, then narrow it down to the final tracklist (probably more than 12 tracks this time, because they seem to want to release more music where possible) and then do the final revisions. I'm putting my money on an April 2010 release.
  22. Mike just like jetted off at the end. They all seem more exhausted than usual. Serves them well, they had a good tour. I do agree that it wasn't necessary for drastic changes between sets for this tour. They haven't been practicing around with songs lately, just writing new ones, so it's easier for them to play the same set over and over again, as it doesn't really take anything out of them. They don't have to think about how they're gonna mix it up each time. At least we got some treats from Mike. And for anyone in the US that's gonna see them in tour next year, be glad that this tour was done in Europe and Asia. Next year you get new songs, a completely new setlist, and a well-rested Linkin Park.
  23. Wow, Chester's REALLY struggling. It's kind of disheartening to see actually. Hopefully he gets a good long rest after this.
  24. It wasn't BAD, he sung it an octave lower. He probably needed to cut back a little for the rest of the song. He just seems exhausted today.
  25. I guess Chester just needed a little break. He sounds great for CBI. Or it could just be the song, although I still feel like he's having an easier time now.
