Please don’t get mad at me for bringing this topic back from the dead but I never got to comment on in years ago and since yesterday was One More Light’s anniversary it has got me thinking a lot.

I was WAY too hard on the band and Chester as a fan when they dropped Heavy and the initial song and then the album. While I wasn’t as bad as some fans, like the people who threw stuff at Chester on stage, or wrote to him on Twitter (I saw some really mean shit on there that people wrote back then), I made it known that I didn’t like Heavy. I did like Battle Symphony. But once the album came out I was back to slamming it a lot. I had a very love hate relationship with it back then. I was also a severe alcoholic at the time very immature, I had no clue what kind of topics the band were talking about on this record back then even though I was like 27. It’s wild how that works. For example I’m 32 now and I just now finally understand some of the lyrics in Minutes To Midnight and Out Of Ashes songs. Like how did I not know that Chester and Mike were talking about before? That type of thing.

I feel very bad for slamming the album so much back then but I definitely didn’t attack Chester personally as a human like some people I saw do on Twitter and stuff. I mean hell I still bought the album and had seen LP live 19 times by that point so it wasn’t like I stopped being a fan because of OML. But some fans were very hard on Chester and I used to think that it wasn’t really true. I used to think he was overreacting or ‘’They’ve had hate for ATS and MTM in the past’’. But now looking back at this in 2023, it was different.

Now I don’t want to get too personal but I want to talk about this. I don’t think it’s fair to blame the negative reactions of OML for his suicide. It may have contributed I guess but I honestly don’t think it did. Coming from a massive massive Chester fan. He had a lot going on outside of LP that he was battling. I would say more here but I don’t think it’d be appropriate. So it kind of annoyed me that Sean made it seem like that about the negative feedback of the album. Chester even said himself in 2017 that they’ve had negative reception many times before from MTM, ATS. And by the time he took his life the album has already been out and they did a short leg already of touring. It was definitely the other issues that he was battling that took him from us, I never liked blaming fans for it even if they said the worst of the worst, that’s not really fair and I don’t think Chester would have liked that.

We've all done awful stuff that we're not proud of in our past. More so If you were an alcoholic. I have the same age as you and it is now when I understand a lot of the lyrics that before were completely irrelevant, not only LP but many other bands with introspective lyrics.

Don't take as an personal attack, but people took too seriously the new OML sound, like their lifes depended on it. Truth is, now matter the band means to you, your life is going to be the same even though LP would have released the best record in the world (that's why I hate the whole "X band saved my life", no, you saved yourself, give some credit). Being myself an asshole, I still figuring out what takes to a person to pay 200€ for a festival ticket to throw some shit to an artist, just because they're playing a couple of tracks they dislike.

No, Chester didn't commit suicide just because some cunts decided to act like the band have just raped and killed their entire family. What changed that time is that he was at his lowest point. He's the most recognizable figure of a band that has been loved/hated since 2000. He tried to kill himself back in 2005, and there was no album factor during that time.

What's really funny now is how suddenly everyone is seeing his cries for help in every album. Their closest family and friends couldn't predict what he would do, but you, reading a bunch of lyrics and didn't truly knowing the person, could.

I am not talking about underground albums
I'm talking about the 20th anniversary that people are paying for

I can name ten demos that are all good and professional
Like And One Slip and Pictureboard .version  2000

So why didn't they release, why did they release Mark Wakefield?

Twenty-three years have passed since HT, so when will the case of this era be closed, why Turn To Grey is not released.
    They abuse the fans

Whatever Jeff, you're great, the band are a bunch of cunts. You won.

The music videos of Crawling Papercut and in the end were made after the success of the LP, so why behind the scenes It was not in HT20

2001 was the year of success of the album and they held 167 concerts, why at least six concerts was not in HT 20

But why did they add already seen concerts?

Why did they publish Dialate but
They didn't release Turn To Grey (everybody want this)

If they release, release everything or release what the fans want

As for Meteora, they still haven't released the demos of Ssomewhere I Belong, Lying from You, Easier to Run, Don't Stay, and Nobody's Listening and Numb.

They didn't even release Wizard Song and A Six (Chester version) that everyone wanted in M20

If they publish, publish everything or publish something that the fans want

However, the HT20 was very weak
I hope Jeff Blue's demos come soon so that the HT20 disaster is forgotten

Hi Jeff, I'll explain to you again. "The music videos of Crawling Papercut and in the end were made after the success of the LP", You have the making of HT on the Pankake festival DVD, which is on the boxset. As for the others, haven't you considered that maybe, and just maybe, doesn't exist a making of?

Let's analyze the "already seen concerts". shall we?

Fillmore 2001 - Just two songs prior released, the rest of the show was completely new

Rock Am Ring 2001 - Yeah, in this sole case, they should have released something like the Docklands Arena show. You want to throw it out a whole boxset just because of that? That's up to you

    PR02 - Completely unreleased.

The argument "publish something that the fans want", if we applied that to the entire LP career, they've probably would have been forgotten as another nu metal band of that era. Besides, you tend to speak as you represented the entire LP fanbase. Let me tell you a secret: I could care less about dozens of Xero demos that probably were mediocre or plain bad. I'm happy with what we got Jeff, good luck releasing your demos.

We weren't looking for Mark Wakefield like we aren't now.

We are looking for (Turn to Grey, Ashes, Flower) and version 2000 of Slip and One, Pictureboard) and unknown music of Hybrid Theory.

Jeff Blue said they have recorded dozens of things.
And there are still other things like that song with dust brothers.

They did not give us these
And they gave you the dialate.

And as for the video part
They didn't give us even a second of new footage.

There was no behind-the-scenes footage of the music videos, no footage of the Hybrid Theory album record, while everyone wanted it.

And about the concerts, in 2000 we have 77 concerts and in 2001, we have 167 concerts.
    But we didn't get anything.
(HT 20) was for people with low expectations and was very weak.

Jeff Blue is going to release a train full of music and video for free, this is called a release.

HT20 was just a joke, I expected to get at least 6 concerts, see behind the scenes of music videos, behind the scenes of concerts, see Linkin Park moments and hear at least ten great demos with Chester.

I'm sorry, but you've taken HT20 completely wrong or you're Jeff using ChatGTP as a disguise.

Yes, the band recorded dozens of things, but first and foremost they don't have to release everything, for their own private reasons. We, as a fans, sometimes we acted as a bunch of spoiled kids in the past, like in the LPU8 or LPU16 cases. Instead of complaining about what we don't have, what about if we appreciate what we got? Most of bands doesn't take care of their fanbase as LP does, releasing demos each fucking year from their vault. It's incredible after all these years we still had unreleased material, after leaking stuff from that period for a long time.

Secondly, I think this anniversary has distorted your take on reality, you can't ask for SBD recordings of every show or a making of the album, because it doesn't fucking exist. The LP who recorded Meteora was the jewel of the crown for Warner, for that they destined resources (for beginners, money), for everything LP does because they pretty know for sure that this investment is going to have a return (for beginners, again, it's called business).

The LP who recorded Hybrid Theory was, in the other hand, a band who wasn't even trusted by his own manager. How the fuck are they're gonna invest money in something they don't truly believe? "Hey, we're executives at Warner with a crystal ball and we've have seen that this band we actually despise is going to break the mold with this record, so let's film everything"

And after this rant, I think I'm gonna to open my boxset and watch my PR02 DVD, which I just discovered that it has been around in the internet since 2002, since there wasn't any second of new footage and I didn't notice.

Fort Minor seems much more realistic than Collision Course. BUT - they didn't include Collision Course in Meteora|20 like they did with Reanimation on HT20, so anything is possible.

Just putting those live songs out from the start of the Roxy show would be a nice nod by LP. Put it on YouTube and call it a day, at worst. And you don't even have to put the LPJZ stuff out since it's already released.

The Roxy LP set for a new LPU CD would be a fantastic idea

It was never meant to be a sophisticated remix. He said on stream that while creating the song he did a rather dissonant version for the sake of experimenting with it and this is it. It is more an experimental demo that was polished a bit and released as a remix and we should be glad that we got it at all. Otherwise in 10 years people would post "I wonder what that different version Mike once talked about on stream sounds like"

The typical LPLive forum holy grail, for example

I just wanted to share my excitement about the upcoming Grey Daze live performance at 98KUPD FM Radio's U-Fest 2023. As a longtime fan of Grey Daze and their unique sound, I can't wait to see them take the stage and rock the crowd. I've been following Grey Daze since their early days, and it's incredible to see how they've evolved and grown over the years. Their music holds a special place in my heart, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to experience it live. U-Fest is always an amazing event, bringing together talented artists and passionate music lovers. It's a great opportunity to connect with fellow fans, share our love for music, and create lasting memories.

Sean, get out off the forum

Sometimes LP team is outstanding at marketing decision and sometimes they make some incomprehensible moves.
Lost was so big, why didn't they follow that up properly with Fighting Myself and More The Victim?

Hope this move right now helps a little bit more.

You sum up perfectly. Maybe we should do a list with their greatest hits and misses

GD is a very unprofessional band in terms of social media. I guess that they will make a compilation of fan clips and some of their own recorded videos and release them on their youtube page.

Grey Daze was your ordinary local band. You can't expect them to do everything as a professional band. It's not their job, they aren't used to it.

He's a good vocalist for GD, I hope that this project becomes really successful with him on board.

Grey Daze could easily tour in places like Germany or Brazil that are crazy for Chester and they would get huge crowds.

It's weird that this is their comeback show, I imagined that it would be a solo show full of GD fans like in a Club Tattoo anniversary party or something like that, its going to be awkward for them being part of this festival where people dont know who they are.

The good thing is you have way less people comparing you at the first show. Less pressure

What do you guys think about Cris? he is in a very special situation

Imagine being a huge LP fan, you create your own tribute band and then the very first band of the vocalist that you love calls you to join the band.

I would do it, no brainer. This guy has a once-in-a-lifetime-chance. He should grab it. And no, I'm far from being a Grey Daze fan or even feel some degree of sympathy for Sean, but Cris isn't to blame. I'm glad for him

i was just reading about their final album, its kinda sad that they dont want to record more albums.

Just a theory, I think after IV they kinda stagnate. I love their music, but it isn't the most innovative piece of art in word. They tried really hard in "When Legends Rise" to reach wider audiences, but their old school fans didn't accepted that sound quite well and the general public didn't change their thoughts about them, so they felt into middle ground. In the end, I get it, they took the Legacy band approach "why I'm gonna waste more time making music if you just want to listen the same shit over and over again?"

  13. Let's say that Jeff know the grey areas of the law (which probably is true) and he gets away with it. What does he gain pissing off a band which he had a bitter relationship with, and he even has published a book about how he discovered them and gain some money with that, adding more fuel to the band's discontent. Really, what's his main goal? I see can't see any positive outcome in any way.

The reasons the DSPs were stopped is because the shows weren't selling much anymore. LPL probably directly contributed to that with how much they were shared online for free for years, and torrenting after that (when LPU 9 launched). But the band said multiple times to post the shows for free everywhere - Mike even made an LPU forum thread for that lol. But this will show you the disconnect between the band / fans and the label - ultimately you have to be making money on them no matter how much the band and fans love them being shared. If they aren't selling but 20-30 copies a show then they aren't worth paying Pooch and Dylan to do (at the time). Now, there is an entirely separate topic for how piss poor LP's marketing was for them. RHCP advertised them in emails, at the shows, etc. They should have done an additional add-on when buying tickets on Ticketmaster etc for adding a $10 show recording. Metallica isn't a good comparison because they are so big they will sell a trillion copies of every show, but for LP you need some results. The label could have done much better promoting these to ensure the program would have continued. What we were left with was a random tour they stopped (with no public announcement - we had to reach out privately) when LP was on fire on stage - Vegas -> NZ/Australia 2013 when they had really great setlists. Blah.

NZ/Australia 2007 was mixed in 2009 when they were ready for release. There was a dispute with Warner Australia basically over "if people buy the show recording then it will hurt MTM sales in Australia", which is true, but come on, that's more label BS in general. It got worked out and they were released.

To date, there has never been a valid reason given for the entire 2008 Summer European Tour not being released. No one has ever said anything about that. Pooch is on record multiple times saying they recorded the shows and he wished they could be released, but it wasn't his call.

2007-2012 there were times where venues started wanting fees from local labor unions etc (not super well-versed in this topic) from bands who record their shows. There are lots of Google articles on this - look into it. You'd have to pay off the local union or something to get stuff recorded. How that is even a thing is beyond me but that is why Wantagh one year has no recording released, Mountain View, etc. And sometimes partnerships on shows like MTV (Monterrey 2012) prevent them from being released due to contracts signed. That isn't the standard deal at festivals though so that reason isn't why Europe 2008 wasn't released. But that is why 2012, 2008, 2007 shows were missing. And 2009 too for some shows, probably (not confirmed). I do know for a fact that MSG charges bands $40,000 to record their performances at The Garden. And LP paid that in 2008 (or whatever the 2008 rate was) to get the LP/JZ show out because of how fucking big that moment was. But for example remember we had no Wantagh 2007 (no idea how it got worked out for 2008) recording. It's all super confusing.

What needed to happen was they had someone in charge SPECIFICALLY for the live recordings and in that role you work out every kink and hiccup imaginable so shows can be released. Notice Metallica doesn't have this issue - they release every single damn show they play lol. If they play their instruments on stage, it's released.

So, the short answer would be that the project was a mess from minute 0. I don't get why LP encouraged to share the shows. In fact, who initiated that idea at first? Seems like they knew that recording and selling every show was going to be overwhelming for their crew, maybe self sabotaging? Cold hard truth is, they aren't released because no one wants to enter a legal battle to make happy a tiny fraction of the fanbase, I mean us

yeah some tracks leaked the quality is really good.

i had one of the best nights of my whole life... first show ever , the show starts with APFMH, killler encore, my show gets released on a dvd damn. great times

Chester and the band were in A+ shape during 2012.

Doesn't bother you a bit that they only released half of the show? It wouldn't ruin my experience, but I'd be a little bit upset about it
