Such a buzz kill that they decide to add IN MY REMAINS to all the sets AFTER I see them in Camden. I would have loved to have seen that live in the show. I know I was lucky to see it performed acousticly at the summit, but I still would have preferred the studio version -

Glad to see so many people will be traveling for the Summit. Seems like there will be a really strong LPU presence. I only live across the bridge in Philly so no mission for me lol but I look forward to seeing everyone there and having an awesome time -
Not really sure who was arguing with me about this, not to mention other people who also said this, but thank you Mike for clearing up this argument for me... "I remember Chester saying in an interview, “We’ll never play ‘Runaway’ again. I’m sick of playing that song. We’ll never play it again.” And yet we’ve played it for the last two months [laughs]." Haha, so there! Chester did say that in an interview! Haha

Since I'm that bored right now, I figured I'd make a setlist of my own... Assuming they play a full show 1. New Divide 2. Given Up 3. Papercut 4. Faint 5. Lost In The Echo 6. From The Inside 7. Somewhere I Belong 8. Points of Authority 9. Lies Greed Misery 10. Waiting For The End 11. Numb 12. Castle of Glass 13. Breaking The Habit 14. Medley 15. The Catalyst 16. Crawling 17. What I've Done 18. In The End Encore 19. A Place For My Head 20. Burn It Down 21. Bleed It Out 22. One Step Closer

Finally decided to give my preliminary ranking of the songs on the album... Just for the hell of it In My Remains Castle Of Glass I'll Be Gone Roads Untraveled Lost In The Echo Powerless (Tinfoil) Lies Greed Misery Burn It Down (Just too overplayed. Released 2 months prior to the album was a bad idea) Victimized (Only because of its length. Still a kickass jam) Until It Breaks (By no means comparing it to STB in terms of quality, just doesn't beat any other song on the album) Skin To Bone Like all LP material, this list will probably change constantly. Especially after I see them live in Camden next month

I believe I mentioned this idea before, so excuse me for being a lazy fuck and not looking back at my previous posts haha. but I think LP's just at the point in their career that they have this kind of "Don't give a fuck what it sounds like, as long as we like it, we'll produce it and it'll be a LP song" type of attitude, not an exact quote lol. Anyway, the song just screams out that it is a bastard child of different demos, and clearly comes off as a tempo/vibe shifting experiment. I can't compare it to Skin To Bone(the only skip-worthy song on LL) cause it actually goes somewhere with its music, I just think none of us quite grasp where it really goes with 3 different vocalists, 2 different rap styles, and 2 different singing sections. Could just be another Victimized, meaning it is a "Hybrid" cluster of everything those guys have ever done, and deliver it in a matter that takes time to digest. Hell, if we can slowly digest the game changer of ATS, one song shouldn't be too much trouble haha

If there's anything about this album that disappointed me, its the simplicity of the songs. I first mentioned it when Burn It Down released; after being shell shocked by a debut single like The Catalyst, and eventually growing to love it, it was sort of a let down to have them go back to a simple song structure. (ie, intro verse chorus, etc format, Brad playing octaves, Joe midi pad samples, nothing new from Mike and Chester) However, it did eventually grow on me, because the song kicks, despite Mike's rap-for-sake-of-a-rap-verse lyrics thrown in. Lies Greed Misery was another shocker. Ignoring the under 2:30 minute track length, I honestly thought the choruses were too poppy. Once again, it eventually grew on because I learned why Mike and Chester wanted the "Yay, fuck you" type of vibe behind that chorus. I honestly think this is a WAY better 2nd song debut compared to Wretches & Kings. The sample and musical production is top notch, but the build up the speech sample again and just "hey, hey, hey" closing really let me down. At least with LGM you get a build up from Chester before he screams his lungs out (Which I love, despite people thinking they just threw screaming shit on for the sake of keeping the song over 2 minutes) As for the rest of the album, all around great in My eyes. Lost In The Echo, EXTREMELY overrated and over-hyped, from both critics, journalists and fans a like. Love the electronics and beats starting off the song rather than guitar or strings. I never really liked Mike's FM-style vocals on LP records (HHH, still to this date cannot stand) but I think they've grown on me overtime, because vocals that sound like his old-self (cough *Burn It Down* cough) sound so cheesy now and the shift in style is really starting to suit him with this band. Likewise, Chester's vocals are a bit blah, but still catchy. In My Remains is without a doubt the running favorite for me so far. The "Like an army..." build up with Mike singing really took this song to a different level for me. I'll Be Gone I initially thought was a bit too generic and simple, but after a few listens and enjoying some straightforward guitar over it, it really feels like it'll preform well live. Now comes Castle of Glass, and god damn was I shocked and surprised by this song. I absolutely LOVE it! The sample (keyboard?) and accompanying guitar riff really make this song catchy, but what really steals it for me is Mike and Chester blending together so well vocally. Those two have really blown me away with the growth of their split singing and harmonizing. This track is fighting IMR for the top spot on this album for me. This one, along with other songs on the album really show LP's new found confidence in themselves and there all around "we're gonna make music that we like and fuck what you expect of us" attitude. All of their albums, especially MTM and ATS, were their walkabouts that helped them reach that real "Hybrid" mentality of their music making. Victimized... Wasn't really sure what to make of this track. I was bipolar like a lot of different fans on this track. I either love its punk-rock influence and LP toolbox cluster, or am extremely pissed they didn't add more to this song. Would have loved if they made a second verse that included the gang-vocal chant and another verse from Mike, and one final throat-ripping performance from Chester. Roads Untraveled was another pleasant surprise for me. The chimes for some reason (don't kill me classic rock fans, I'm only making a reference, not a comparison) remind me of Pink Floyd's "Time." Cannot explain why, especially since Time is a cluster fuck of noise when it first starts, but its what I think of. Anyway, once again I love the shared singing between Mike and Chester. The wordless choruses really make this song build (which I feel destroy When They Come For Me's wordless chorus), and when the final chorus kicks in with Brad (I'm guessing... Possibly Mike as well?) come in with the accompanying guitar riffs that match the chorus harmonies really explode in an awesome way. What cements this song as one of my favorites are the lyrics. Damn, does song trigger a lot of memories and feelings. Haven't related to an LP song like this one in a long time. Skin To Bone... Essentially the In Between of Living Things. The beats are sickening, but damn are the lyrics a pile of shit. Ignoring their simple (almost nauseating) approach, the song just doesn't go anywhere. Hell, now that I think about it, In Between may not kick but at least it comes to some sort of conclusion, a weak one at that. This track just goes no where fast and deserves the only skip-worthy rating of the songs on this album. Until It Breaks is still a tossup for me. Mikes rhymes, once again embracing the FM nature, really take the cake for his raps on this album (and quite possibly ever in terms of all-around sickness.) I personally love the second verses beat and flow, as compared to being played Points Of Authority style over Waiting For The End. Chester and Brad's vocals (kudos to Brad FYI) are nice, but I question their place on this track. Chester's almost sound like a broadcast interruption after Mike's first verse, before he regains control with the second. (Almost reminds me of Mike and Chester's vocals on W&K with the rise up and take power attitude) Brad's closing vocals seem almost fitting to close to song in the dream-like vibe it. Like the revolution and battle has come to an end, while some people pass on, others look forward to the future. A clusterfuck of styles (probably demos as well) but its beginning to work with me. At this point Tinfoil is just an intro to Powerless, so I don't even put it in the same ballpark as Wake, Cure For The Itch or Session. Powerless had a major opinion change for me after a few listens. At first, I was extremely let down with another ballad closing an LP album. Chester's vocal tone and approach seemed redundant, and it just didn't seem to pick up enough to give a solid conclusion to an all-around high energy album. After several listens (Many a result of my gf loving it and listening to it constantly haha) my opinion slowly changed. The beats and keyboard really jump out to me as the highlights of the song, and the bridge "Wooh, oooh"s really give the song the boast it needs into the final chorus. Almost reminds me of Leave Out All Of The Rest, where the extra guitar comes in with powerchords to pump up the volume, so to speak. All in all, I really like Living Things. STB is the only questionable song on that album, and considering Hybrid Theory is the only album, once again in my opinion, that has no skip-worthy songs on it, I cannot complain. I didn't give any of the songs scores out of 10 because that's just pointless when it comes to rating music. Like anything in life, especially music, opinions and feelings change overtime, good or bad. And I believe I speak for any true LP fan that your top 5 and 10 lists constantly change from time to time haha. I cannot wait to see these guys live again, especially with Incubus and their increased song count set, as well as new LL tracks

Anybody have any information on the matter of Lost In The Echo becoming a possible single? First there was its appearance on the front sticker along with Burn It Down and Castle of Glass with the Rolling Stone quote, then yesterday I saw on the Living Things Wikipedia page under the singles list (Under the album cover) with a release date of July 23rd, and now LPTV uploading a lyric video. Any thoughts?

Just happened to look on Wikipedia for Living Things, and noticed that Lost In The Echo is listed as the next single, with a release date of July 23rd... Any legit information on this? Guess somebody responded to my question cause now it's no longer on Wikipedia haha Now LP uploads a lyric video for Lost In The Echo... hmmm -
I'm sure I'll get booed off the stage and the "asshole" chant for this, but whats the usual place? Yeah, go ahead, throw your stones haha
-
Likewise my friend! I'll be up at midnight on the 26th with friends getting our first listens in so I'm sure I'll be in touch with you haha
-
I completely agree, but I feel like ATS was a little of the "Fuck you attitude" also given how drastic of a turn it was and how critics, fans and WB executives alike gave them shit for it. I feel like Living Things is them completely in their comfort zone, not afraid to do anything they've before, while still holding true to the concept of bringing something fresh with each progressive album
-
You can pretty much say that for all of LP now. A genre label for them never really existed. Maybe on the first two records, but ever since MTM they've changed their songs up so much and have had so many different styles on one record its impossible to label them anymore, which is awesome

Which song do you want to see in the Honda Civic Tour?
Biggiee2180@aol.com replied to RogueSoul's topic in Live Talk
I read through that entire list, and the most logical song, in my opinion, that could find its way back was Don't Stay. That song fought its way into the MTM touring cycle setlists and was always a crowd favorite so I think it has the best chance of being brought back. Either that, or No More Sorrow -
Hell to the no! Crawling, live or studio, is one of the best performances they have ever given as a band. AND, even though it was one of their more successful songs (Grammy) it is the least played out song off of their single catalog. If anything, they should give songs like One Step Closer or In The End a breather. ITE will never get dropped clearly cause of the pure success and cultural impact that song has had, but it would be nice to give a breather once in a while, just like they did with OSC and Crawling. That's just my personal brainfart, because I've mentioned dropping ITE before and realized right away it would never happen THIS!!! I would love if LP took the whole rotating singles process more seriously. Replace a single with a die-hard-fan classic. Swap singles throughout tours (like I mentioned on fb with Lying From You and Papercut haha) so that all of their singles see the light of day at some point, or drop singles for newer material, which will definitely happen once the HCT starts. I bring this band up constantly in this forum cause of their amazing live approach, but LP should definitely take a page out of the Pearl Jam live set and start making unique set lists for EVERY show. Yes, I understand they come up with rotating setlists for a reason; more specificly for Rob and Joe's samples, and to practice newer songs in order to get them down as best as possible, but if they find a way around that and have a unique setlist for every show that will really make each one special. I also think the uniqueness of the shows would really give the band an extra boost of energy with playing something fresh each night

I'm definitely waiting. I always wait for their music to be released. I love buying hard copies of artists I support these days and those guys are the top ones. Good thing they send you the mp3s at midnight cause I'd hate to wait for the CD to be delivered to my home There are ways of avoiding leaks. Look at what Jay-Z and Kanye did with Watch The Throne on iTunes. It's effective, but I can't see LP ever doing something completely on iTunes
-
As long as the album delivers. Yes, it sucks that Victamized, the "heaviest" song yet for the band, is under 2 minutes, but as long as it does it's part connecting the album I don't care. They realyl started to be concern with the album flow since MTM and it's gradually grown since then so I'm sure Living Things won't be any different. 10 1/2 songs, better than 9 and 6 interludes/instrumentals haha
-
Still not sure what to think of this song yet. At least LP squashed all the people thinking this would be Hybrid Theory: Part 3. Still keeping it fresh and original. I will say this, a better second song debut than Wretches & Kings. I'm also the person who thinks The Catalyst is better than Burn It Down so I'm sure a lot of opinions are mixed on this. I'll just do what we should all do and just wait for the album and see how it flows from beginning to end cause we all know A Thousand Suns worked a lot better as a complete album as opposed to its individual songs

Does anybody know where I can find She Couldn't? Just went through my iTunes and realized its not on there anymore for some reason. I have all the demos except for that so could any body point in the right direction? Never mind haha

18.05.2012 - West Hollywood, CA - LPU Show
Biggiee2180@aol.com replied to hahninator's topic in Previous Show Discussion
If LP and LPU reads these forums and takes into consideration what the fans have to say hopefully the reactions for this show will make them realize they did something right. This type of setlist clearly works for all level of LP fan. Tons of classics that haven't seen the light of day in years, newer songs that managed to survive the cut, and even some new intros/bridges/outros of songs they have never done before and some off of the new album. All in all, great set. Hopefully they apply the whole "toolbox" concept to their setlist creativity and realize they have a lot of material to work with -
I will be there! Already have a ticket to the show and the full membership so I'm definitely getting this.
-
Essentially we have to; ignore all early reviews, listen to the album ourselves, and coming to terms with our own opinions. With how much LP has kept each progressive album fresh and new with their evolving interests and ideas I can't see Living Things being any less than that. Minutes To Midnight and A Thousand Suns were basically them suppressing a part of themselves, which did both bad and good to them and their fans. Now that they have grown the balls to accept who they are and what they have become in the music world I expect great things from this album. This next album will truly be EVERYTHING LP has been, currently is, and what they're aiming to be. No early reviews or listens can sum that up for anyone. Just the first listen, and probably hundreds more, will decide exactly what Living Things will be to LP fans and music fans a like
-
So I guess this all by confirms that Tinfoil is an instrumental/interlude track? haha
