  1. So this article says that the band is not working with Rick Rubin, but he may join later. Hmm. Do you guys think he will produce the next album, like he did with MTM, ATS and LT? It seems like if LP are already working on the new album, and they are already playing shows in January, etc, that they would at least have a producer figured out by now. I wonder if Mike will straight up produce the next album, or if they will choose someone else, or just go with Rick again..
  2. Hybrid Theory is not ''their sound''. LP has done so many different things in the past years, that it's hard to place them in a box. Like I said, LP is mostly a mix of rock, hip-hop, pop, electro and alternative. For example, I wouldn't consider Hybrid Theory to be pop, electro or alternative, it was more of a straight up mix of rock and hip-hop with some other subtle elements thrown in. I would consider MTM to be more a pop/alternative album. I would consider LT to be more of a electro/rock album. Do you get what I'm saying?
  3. Seems odd that they are going to give a sneak peek of LPU13. Either they are doing something epic for LPU13 or they will just show the track they worked on with Beta State or the other band. I hope they don't abandon the demo CDs...
  4. You're right about being careful with expectations. You have to understand that when Chester said that MTM will be the heaviest record yet, at the time, (late 2005-early 2006) they were making a lot of heavy songs and stuff. But the process always changes throughout.
  5. It's annoying to put LP's music into all these little sub-genres and trends, etc. Basically, LP has made music in the rock, hip-hop, pop, electronic and alternative genres. That's about it. They have done some other types of music, but those are the majority of what LP makes for music, and they blend them all together to make their ''sound''. I mean technically, LP tried to do a couple 'folk' songs for LT, but they never really made the cut. For example, Chester said STB started as a folk melody over an acoustic guitar and that was it. Look at what we ended up with for STB. Same goes for COG and RU. I mean, LP has done tons of styles throughout album processes, they've probably tried a bunch. On the making of MTM, Joe said they had weird dance songs and heavy metal songs, etc, but we would never get to hear those. Bottom line is, on the main LP releases (HT, Meteora, MTM, ATS and LT), they have done rock, hip-hop, pop, electronic and alternative. It shouldn't be hard for any of us LP fans to discover what songs work for each of those genres, etc. UIB is mostly hip-hop based, while NMS is mostly rock based, etc.
  6. LP has done rock, hip-hop, electro, classic metal, folk, orchestral, alternative and EDM.
  7. I liked the scat vocals. It really gave you a great insight on how LP creates songs and finalizes them, etc. I love that kind of stuff. I guess only the extreme hardcore fans would appreciate stuff like that.. I agree that they probably read the comments and just decided to not include scat vocals anymore. I just find it extremely hard to believe that Asbestos never got any vocals from Chester. I am 99% certain that at one point, Chester did some form of a vocal melody or whatever over the chorus. I mean they all worked on MTM together for a long time, and I am sure they tried tons and tons of different variations and experiments, etc, that we will never get to hear, just because of there are so many out there. I also think people forget that 1 song can have multiple demos. For example, like you said, we know that LOATR and TLTGYA had multiple different demos. I bet they recorded a bunch of different versions so they can go back and work if they want to, if they didn't like the final version, etc.
  8. Awesome. It's my favorite song from the EP besides Cry Cry. Should be a cool video, at least it won't be like the LP style of videos I bet.
  9. Is that the song that is coming out on LPU13? I haven't kept up.
  10. I was at that show, that was a great concert. It would be cool if LP did NYC again. It's always LA or Vegas.. What about the rest of us? Lol.
  11. With MTM, Chester did a lot of scat vocals and tons of just singing ''nananas'' over demos. It wasn't just Mike. There is no doubt in my mind that Asbestos probably had a Chester vocal at some point. Homecoming definitely had vocals at one point, I bet. It was too complete of a song instrumentally to not have vocals. MTM was the only LP album where the band collectively worked on it together as a whole throughout the process. With Meteora, they did a lot of work on the road and most of the work was done by Mike and Brad, and Chester came in later to add vocals. With ATS, Chester was on the road with DBS and doing the DBS album, he probably came in later to add vocals and stuff like that. MTM was just different. Of coarse the band (Mike) edits the demos for release, I highly doubt these are the raw demos that are on LP's hard drives. With the documentarys for the making ofs, you can see this stuff. You can even see that Chester was present in almost all the LPU photo journal pics (dating back to early 2006) and that he was there throughout as well.
  12. I agree.. LT was definitely rushed, at least it seemed like that to me. I did like LT, it just wasn't my favorite LP album to date. I think LP works better when they aren't rushed and they take their sweet time. I wish LP took some time off after this summer and worked on other projects for a while (STP, new FM) and then came back and made a new album, very similar to what they did in 2005 and then MTM. I really want that long of a wait, but the music might be better because of it. Idk. I think they are rushing with this new album, once again. I hope it doesn't suffer because of it..
  13. Seems cool I guess. They sure love playing Vegas, but that's besides the point. I highly doubt the new album will be close to be done by January, but I guess there is a very small chance they could play something new, or maybe a rare song. I doubt we will get much info from this show because it's a private show and DSP's are long gone.
  14. Honestly, those little imperfections are what I love about LP sometimes. I loved that part of RU. Music doesn't always have to be 100% polished and perfect. A lot of the vocals on MTM weren't pitch perfect and they did that on purpose. I love when you can hear a crack in the singer's voice, etc.
  15. I agree with you on this, very interesting point. Somewhat off-topic, but what do you guys think was a bigger risk? MTM or ATS? They both were very different from their ''sound'' and they both have different aspects to it. MTM was very different, most of the songs. ATS was different as well, but had some of the key elements, like rapping and electro stuff. Idk. I think HHH was the most ''wtf'' moment for me that I wouldn't expect on a LP album. Lol.
  16. You have to keep in mind that ever since LP has been doing demos CD's, they have always been 10 song CD's (except for LPU9 being 9 tracks). LP used to release 6 song CD's for LPU releases. I think more people actually would have been satisfied if they continued to do 6 song releases, because they could include more b-sides on one CD without it seeming too ''full''. I think they put the instrumental/remix/HT demos on there because they don't want to give us a whole CD of rare b-sides, you know? With a 6 song limit, it would seem much more rich to us, less numbers is less of filler stuff. Some people probably enjoy the instrumental demos. I have only enjoyed a few of them. Unfortunate and Homecoming are two of my favorite non-album LP tracks. But it does get excessive. I think it's more annoying when they put stuff we essentially already have like ITE, Esaul, WID Remix, POA, Forgotten. I know they are 'alternate' versions, but VERY small changes from what we have. They are cool, but it's a waste of space for what could be an awesome live track (something rare prior to 2007 that is unrleased, like they did with HV from 01 on the HT special edition) or a b-side.
  17. This was such a silly thread that I made. I don't know why I said I hated pro-shot video, or why we can't use DSP's. Lol. Anyways, I guess it would be cool to make a DVD book or something with my favorite pro-shot from each year. 2001- Docklands Arena 2003- Detroit MTV 2 Dollar Bill 2004- Rock am Ring 2005- Live 8 2006- Summer Sonic TV Special 2007- Detroit Projekt Revolution 2008- Rock in Rio 2009- Summer Sonic TV Special 2010- Madrid 2011- iTunes Festival 2012- Carson Honda Civic Tour 2013- Summer Sonic TV Special
  18. ATS was a natural sort of progression on the MTM sound, I thought. I wish they had continued to evolve on the MTM/ATS sound for their 5th album, but they released LT instead. However, I wouldn't judge LP based off of ALTNC or Recharged. Mike just said himself that the next album most likely will not sound anything like that, so who knows. I do hope they pick up where they left off in 2010 (ATS) for the next album, but a heavier/rockier/punkier sound for the next album would be awesome as well. EDIT: Actually, let me elaborate more on this. I think that MOST of ATS was a natural progression on the MTM sound. I don't mean the interludes (Requiem, Radiance, Jornada, WJL, Fallout). I mean the actual songs. Especially songs like BITS, Iridescent, The Messenger, Waiting For The End, those all sound likes songs that remind me of a more evolved MTM. ATS wasn't overly electronic. It had electronic elements for sure, but it was done tastefully and in a unique ''LP'' style. This is by biggest issue with LT and Recharged. EDM/Dubstep is a TREND. Nu-metal was a TREND back in the early 2000's, EDM/Dubstep is the same exact thing. This is why I don't like LP doing this type of music, because it makes LP sound hypocritical. They said they didn't like being judged by the nu-metal stigma, and they felt like they didn't belong in a trend, yet they are doing the exact thing, now. I think maybe LP wanted to convey this whole ''mature'' sound with MTM and ATS so they could prove to people that they weren't a one trick pony, that they could make mature music like other bands. But more and more lately, I am thinking that was just a publicity move, and that they really want to make poppy electronic radio friendly songs. That is what I would classify LT as except for a few songs (COG, RU, STB, UIB). ALTNC definitely fits in that category, too. However, Mike HAS been listening to metal/punk lately. Chester said it first. Mike then said it himself in the video chat with Steve Aoki. He also released a ''YELLING OVER GUITARS'' playlist that was this type of music, and he said that the next album will not sound like ALTNC/Recharged. This could be a good sign, that maybe they don't want to continue making this electropop radio stuff forever. I have hope for the next LP album/future of LP. I will always probably still listen to LP, no matter what, I will love their music. But I don't want to see LP fall into this type of legacy. I want LP to be remembered as something more than Hybrid Theory and then the pop garbage.
  19. Well, he somewhat confirmed that the next LP album probably won't sound like Recharged/ALTNC/EDM. I was happy to read that straight from Mike's mouth. Whatever LP does, I hope it's good. I think if they go in this punk/rock sound like the stuff Mike has been listening to, and they add their own ''LP'' signature sound to it, it'll be great, and also something the band hasn't done before.
  20. WID is my all time favorite LP song, so I'm a sucker for the songs they keep recreating it with. New Divide, BITS, IBG and now ALTNC. It's funny because BITS has always been my favorite song from ATS and IBG has always been my favorite song from LT more or less, next to Powerless. I like ALTNC as well. Loved New Divide when it first came out in 2009, but I hated it ever since. Goes to show I am a sucker. Lol.
  21. I just looked up those two producers, I could definitely see LP working with them. It would be cool. Basically what I'm saying isn that I like Rick as a producer (a lot of LP fans seem to hate him), but I am open to other producers as well. But yes, if they seriously are heading back into a rock direction instead of electronic, that is EPIC news. I think Mike may have got all the electronic stuff out of his system with LT, ALTNC and Recharged. Either that, or he naturally just wanted to start making rock stuff again, which is awesome. I think the fans will welcome that.
  22. I'm sorry, I didn't really understand what you were saying before. I agree that LPU should get more quality demos, while other demos, like the instrumental demos or the HT demos we keep getting that we pretty much already have, should be downloadable content. I also agree with what Hahninator said about LPU9, I think it was the best LPU album so far. Usually when I categorize LPU albums, I categorize LPU 1-8 separately, and I consider 9-12 the 'new' breed of LPU CDs. Out of the 4 so far, LPU9 is by far the best. ATL is possibly the best b-side we have got from LP so far (I also love What We Don't Know very much) and we also got some awesome stuff like A-Six, Faint and Figure.09 demos, LOATR and TLTGYA with Mike singing, etc. They have been going downhill ever since. I did enjoy LPUX a lot, I think it was the second best. LPU11 and LPU12 weren't great, IMO. I hope LPU13 can bring something awesome to the table, like a full Meteora b-side. It's about time us fans got one, we've been waiting for 10 years. LPU is a perfect place to release it.
  23. I listened to most of the playlist at this point. I think it's excellent. I really hope this style of music influences the next LP album, but with LP putting their own unique twist on it. I've been waiting for LP to make something heavy, and this could finally be my chance. This could even rival MTM as my favorite LP album..
  24. This is great news. Official confirmation from Shinoda that the album probably won't sound like EDM or LT. I can't wait for this album. If this album sounds like the metal/rock/punk music that Mike has been listening to lately, it could rival MTM for my favorite LP album, and that is saying a lot. I also hope they work with Rick Rubin again. MTM, ATS and LT are all great albums, I wouldn't mind if they worked with Rick Rubin for the rest of their career. He's a legend, and LP makes great music with him. I'm also more excited for this album because it means STP will have to be pushed on the back burner for quite some time.
  25. I thought you would have liked this song. You hardly ever post here, only when something new comes out. I thought you would like Recharged as well, you might like that, it has some FM style Mike raps on it.
