Astat
Slip/Blue/So Far Away are odd, Chester didn't join the band until early 1999, so unless those recordings originally had Mark Wakefield on vocals and they just dubbed Chester in later, the 1998 dates are wrong (and either way, the versions we have wouldn't have been completed until 1999). I find it kind of strange that the band consistently labels that stuff as being from 1998 when the story of Chester cutting his vocals over the original Xero demos on his birthday in 1999 is so well-known. Geki
I have that shirt.. the Linkin Park 1998 shirt. To be technical, LP really started in 1996/1997, just without Chester. The story goes that Chester got the Xero demo in the mail on his 23rd birthday, which would have been March 20, 1999. Weird. Maybe he got it earlier and he was wrong about it being his 23rd? Idk. I don't think Mike would label all those demos as 1998 if they weren't, since he picks and chooses all the demos we get for LPU himself. Skipees
we know when Chester joined, but when Mark left?
hahninator
This is really interesting. You can hear samples of other stuff in them, for example Kingdom (3:29) has a sample I've heard before from an LPU track. I think it's from Coal. Anyone else have any other finds? Heretic sounds kind of familiar too...maybe it's similar to one of Mike's VMA score tracks. Some of them are heavy as fuck, wow.

Rasputin 93
Hey, could someone add to the list on the first page kind of if/which demos are exactly the same ones on the different tapes? or just list the differences... I saw something similar on lprevolution.net and it would really be a help!

hahninator
Sure, post them here I am working on a list with Astat for the next version of our website, which isn't that far away. We will take this info and add it.
Rasputin 93
italic means, that I think they're similar, but of course I'm not 100% sure. if many different similarities -> italic + color Papercut (6-Track): 3:09 (without drum beat in the intro, begins directly with the sample) Paper Cut (Studio Finals): 3:11 Plaster (6-Track): 2:45 Plaster (David Kahne Mix): 2:36 ("Shut Up"-intro) Plaster (Studio Finals): 2:42 Dust Brothers (6-Track): 3:42 (shorter Joe Hahn bridge; "I can't wait to see tomorrow" repeated several times as last refrain) Now I See (Ozzfest Sampler): 3:25 Now I See (Studio Finals): 3:32 With You (HT Sampler Tape): 3:29 (the tempo is lower [i guess because of the cassette rip], shorter fade out) Oh No (LPU X): 2:05 (instrumental beat) Points & Authority (7-Track): 2:50 Points & Authority (9-Track): 2:48 Points and Authority (8-Track): 2:51 (worse quality due to the whole 8-Track CD) Points of Authority (LPU 12): 3:04 (same as the purple ones except: first refrain repeated; additional break before second refrain) Points of Authority (6-Track): 3:27 ("stop the talk show"-intro) Points of Authority (hybridtheory.com): 3:20 ("stop the talk show"-intro) Points of Authority (HT Sampler Tape): 3:24 (the tempo is lower [i guess because of the cassette rip]) Points of Authority (Studio Finals): 3:24 Crawling (9-Track): 3:50 ("AH!, I hate so much right now!"-intro; "so insecure"-part before second refrain only with samples/keys; short break before second verse; "Raindrops"-bridge) Crawling (7-Track): 3:50 ("Raindrops"-bridge) Crawling (8-Track): 3:51 ("Raindrops"-bridge; worse quality due to the whole 8-Track CD) Crawling (6-Track): 3:30 (beat before the first verse is different from the 'Studio Finals' one; no "confusing what is real"-outro, just ends with the "controlling", music ends also earlier than the one from 'Studio Finals') Crawling (Studio Finals): 3:28 (all differences are mentioned on the '6-Track' one) Stick N Move (Xero Tape): 2:41 Stick And Move (LPU 9): 0:54 (instrumental beat) Stick And Move (LPU 9 Acetate): 0:56 Runaway (Studio Finals): 3:12 Sad (LPU 9): 1:08 (instrumental beat) Sad (LPU 9 Acetate): 1:19 (extended keyboard/synth intro) Super Zero (9-Track): 3:16 ("So what do you think?"-intro; "always afraid"-bridge) SuperXero (7-Track): 3.15 ("So what do you think?"-intro; "always afraid"-bridge) SuperXero (8-Track): 3:16 ("So what do you think?"-intro; "always afraid"-bridge; worse quality due to the whole 8-Track CD) Super Xero (hybridtheory.com): 3:12 ("what do I do..." off-beat) By Myself (2-Track Demo CD): 3:13 ("what do I do..." on-beat) By Myself (Raw Power): 3:09 ("what do I do..." on-beat; voice is more clear than on the previous one) By Myself (Studio Finals): 3:15 ("By Myself"-scream samples in the intro) [note: ("what do I do..." on/off-beat -> I can not make a huge difference on that) I still wrote it down cuz according to: http://www.hybridsoldier.de/lpr/index.php?...ub=14&sid=7 and http://www.hybridsoldier.de/lpr/index.php?...14&sid=606)] Untitled (9-Track): 3:52 (extended bridge; worse quality due to the whole 8-Track CD) Carousel (9-Track): 3:01 ("she can only fool herself for so long" three times, the second one by Chester, no breathe-in from Mike before last refrain) Carousel (HT EP): 2:58 ("she can only fool herself for so long" three times, all by Mike; bridge is different from the previous ones) Dedicated (LPU 2): 3:11 Part Of Me (7-Track): 3:43 (begins and ends 0,03 seconds later than the 8-Track one [no joke, there's some sounds missing actually at the start and more sound at the end)] Part Of Me (8-Track): 3:45 (worse quality due to the whole 8-Track CD) Part Of Me (9-Track): 3:38 (two intro loops before the first guitar sound [instead of four]) Part Of Me (HT EP): 12:41 (two intro loops faded in before the first guitar sound; Skipees
very helpful, thanks for this. one quick question: tempo can be slower because it's cassette rip?
Rasputin 93
yeah that's like vinyl rip. since some player don't really play the EXACT tempo, it could be that it records the tracks in a slower way. That's like if your watch's battery is getting low ^^ (don't know to explain it by other ways) and thanks, yeah I wanted to do this for such a long time ago!!! However I was motivated because I read this stuff with on/off the beat for By Myself, and was like WTF such minor differences...that was the only stuff where I used this site for information about comparisons. And sry about my rant at 'Part Of Me' but what the fuck is that to extend it 6 minutes long with nonsense. Of course I know hidden tracks but not in the middle of a CD -> A Decade Underground. SergSlim
I've decided to add Dedicated (Demo), because LP consider it as a Demo, so why shouldn't we? Added two sources for it (LPU 2 and SFTU).

Astat
The original 91X radio premiere of State of the Art was promoted by DJ Lethal as being a track from his upcoming solo album, so I'm pretty sure, at least in his eyes, the track was finished...
