Linkin Park has confirmed they are recording new music for their new album, the follow-up to From Zero, their first effort with Emily and Colin. LP took a quick month-ish off after the tour and proceeded to start recording the next album already.

Joe says LP was recording on tour, during the band's off days, together in studios on the road.

This and more in the new NME interview.

In other recent press, Joe has said the following:

USA Today interview, Joe Hahn: "We’re an old band (originated in 1996), but you see in the film that with the last two years of touring, we’re a brand new band. With that comes much excitement, so even when we’re on the road with a day off, we find a studio and just make noise. But I cannot say any more. It would be cool if there was a new record we were working on right now."

Billboard interview, Joe Hahn: "I feel like this film is just perfect timing for us,” Hahn says. “It’s bookending everything we’ve done from From Zero and reflects on what it took for us to get here. Everyone was like, ‘OK, let’s make sure we take at least a month off and then let’s get back to work,’ so we’re now writing music again. There’s no timetable, but I think there’s an urgency. We know we can work fast, ’cause we’re so excited to output a lot, so it’s not going to be another five years or a long time before we come out with something new. At the same time we’ve been so in your face a lot with (From Zero) that it’ll be nice to give people a little bit of a break and then reconvene and come up with something really great."

Isn't Emily on vacation in Switzerland with her girlfriend? The photos she posted over the last few days are probably old and from that vacation they took.

Before seeing those photos, I believed they were already in the studio. Now things make more sense.

They're probably planning the next album for the fall of 2027.

I hope they release the MTM20 in the meantime.

They can do the 2024 schedule with Papercuts and then From Zero. It could work for 2027 too, celebrating MTM a few weeks earlier than the real 20th anniversary

Do you guys really think an MTM20 is possible? I think it would be amazing, but I don't believe they'll want to release anything from the old lineup to distract people from the current one, and it seems the band's relationship with the Bennington family isn't great enough right now to negotiate a potential release of unreleased content.

They won't loose momentum, that's for sure. Since the comeback they didn't had silence for more than 60 days i think. It's release after release.

I think they will keep that going until the new album release. It's not going to be like the old days of two year blanks and a new album out of nowhere.

It seems just coming from the fan POV that it's much harder to get stuff released for Chester solo, as Talinda/CB family may have the a majority of the say over that, versus getting LP unreleased music with Chester released. LP has been able to do it three or more different, significant, times now - Hybrid Theory 20, Meteora 20, Friendly Fire, and also OML Live. The contract Chester signed with Warner for his record deal might give that decision making power to the band as a whole, or a band/label/mgmt combo, as opposed to the family of a single member. Notice there are no hold ups from Chester or Rob on these projects. But for Chester solo it's an entirely different case - Slash said Talinda controlled that stuff. But there surely is a label stake in that too. It seems so complicated and you'd need a really good music lawyer to try to understand it with a best *guess* if you aren't directly in the LP or Warner camp.

There doesn't seem to be a problem whatsoever with LP using Chester's name, photos, videos, songs, recordings, live shows, etc as they have done it a million times since 2017 and even since 2024. Our best guess is the contract he signed in the early days, and likely later renewed during their career, detailed specific language about this stuff. Warner probably has some of the best lawyers in the history of the world, lol. Otherwise someone likely would have put their foot down when the CB family drama was peaking in 2017-2019.

Definitely need some sort of MTM celebration in May.

What you said makes complete sense. I am a lawyer and have briefly worked with intellectual property. Even though I don't practice law in the United States, I can understand and agree with you.

What I meant is that if someone from Chester's family, other than Talinda, needs to give any sign of authorization, that is very likely not going to happen.

The band is a company and it has rights regarding its respective members, and Warner has rights over the band's work. It's a complete legal relationship, but truly, depending on the type of contract Chester signed when he was alive, this becomes easier or harder.

If I'm not mistaken, the only work by Chester outside of Linkin Park released after his passing was Cross Off.

What catches my attention is that all content featuring Chester was released up until the band's return with a new lineup. Since then, we haven't had anything else from him. Of course, it also wasn't the right time to release anything of his with the From Zero cycle happening, but it is also an important observation because it leaves us with two scenarios: either Chester's family doesn't need to give authorization to release unreleased content, or there hasn't been any authorization after the return due to disagreements between the parties.

Another important fact to understand is whether the contract Chester signed with Linkin Park allowed for the release of material recorded before his death without the estate's authorization. Therefore, tracks that were not even publicly registered with the competent authorities might require authorization from the family because they were never part of the signed contract. In this case, the box set could include No Roads Left, Across the Line, and QWERTY, but tracks that were never made available could be problematic.

We will have the definitive answer in the coming months. Even so, I don't believe in a release, but I hope I'm very wrong.

New unreleased LP stuff with Chester on vocals in 2027 seems highly unlikely at this point to me, they are gonna keep the momentum on the new stuff IMO, they need to ride the wave of the big big success and second youth.

It's hard to figure out the Chester solo stuff.

Talinda is who got Out of Ashes (Deluxe) released for Ryan and Amir. She also blocked this, though: https://linkinpedia.com/wiki/Crazy

Chester is in 2024 promo videos from LP and they are releasing songs he wrote (songwriter credits) on Unshatter Live in São Paulo. By all means, at least so far, it seems like they could release anything they wanted to with Chester when it's related to LP. Anything released or unreleased should be covered by his recording contract since he recorded it while signed to Warner Records, so anything like Friendly Fire or a demo of In the End or something.

My opinion is that it just hasn't been the right time to release Chester stuff when you're trying to promote Emily, but material he wrote is all over the São Paulo show and that should count for something in a legal sense in terms of what is allowed/authorized and what isn't since his estate is benefitting monetarily from they release (and likely anytime LP itself is used in any commercial sense anywhere - merch, etc). Rob too.

It is going to be hard for the band marketing-wise if something goes insanely viral again (like Lost) for MTM20, so therefore we may get a subdued release or celebration on a much smaller scale. Just one unreleased CB song with LP could go #1 again with rock music surging globally still. And that isn't a good brand-wise decision when you're trying to sell Emily's recorded material with LP.

Let's see what happens in May. At the very least, they should put all the b-sides on streaming and toss us a live show or two, or three, plus the Making of MTM Webster Hall unreleased footage. Make one of the shows Rock am Ring 2007. That isn't that much to ask for and it's just honoring the album and time period.

New album is going to be really slow and boring, and very polarising to everyone. For me it's like if they didn't work on anything. We will get another One More Light. At least, I hope we will get MTM20.

I think he meant "it is going to be dynamic, exciting and everyone will love it." XD

totally this, 100%.

I seem them maybe playing some MTM deep cuts live with Emily (TLTGYA, full SOTD and maybe NRL)

on top of the current situation, if, let's say the band continues with MTM20, I wonder which version of SOAD will we get in the main album track? 2007?2012?2022? What about NRL? which version? and especially ATL, will they include both the normal and extended version, much like how they did with A.06/A-Six/A6? so many questions with the current direction. there could be chances they might just scrap 20th anniversary as they just "celebrated" the 15th anniversary with the re-release, in favor of the 9th album. I'm still sad we didn't get anything out of Collision Course and The Rising Tied 20th Anniversary. Was really looking forward to at least the full Roxy Theatre 2004 for CC and 2005 FM Pukkelpop.

I remember Mike saying TRT 20 was not happening because he did not want to focus on the old stuff but go forward

There’ll be silence for a year or two before they release a new album, so the "momentum" is over. This is the perfect opportunity to fill that time with MTM20.

They could also change the 20 year celebrations to 25 year celebrations, easily.

It's impossible to predict.

It has seemed to me for a long time that the special celebrations with boxsets and other stuffs will be postponed to the 25th anniversaries or even 30th

Lost may had distorted the reality as it was unexpectedly huge, but the promo for the boxsets was pretty short for the general audience (not talking about hardcore fans who were speculating for months), maybe 2 months of promo or something. So there's a lot of room to promote MTM20 and not disturb the current band situation, it isn't gonna take a lot of time while they're in the studio. Even though they say they already started to write new songs, we all know that's the process is gonna drag.

Ps: Wild guess, but I don't think we're gonna have another Lost in terms of popularity. The Nu-Metal nostalgia was and it's at its peak and that really facilitated the success of the track. But as popular it was "the transformers song", I don't think anyone's craving that alt rock sound of 2007's Linkin Park

But imagine what NRL sung by Chester could be. Like, LOATR-ish rock ballad with CB on vocals 10 years after his passing

I also don't think tracks like Chances of Rain, Pretend to Be or Across The Line have any chance of blowing huge, far from that.

Only if they really have something special hiding there, something heavy-ish like Qwerty or more industrial/electronic like New Divide.
