The only thing that put MTM below FZ for me is tracks like HHH, VD, and IB. The second half of that album is a struggle sometimes. TLTGYA is one of my favorite LP tracks ever, however.

In other news the album sold more than 250k worldwide first week, we are on the level of THP and OML, amazing results. A rock band almost 20 years past their “golden age” comes back without their iconic singer and they go Top 3 in almost every country in the world. We are so back

I observed this thread for quite a bit and thought that I may throw in my lists as well. Even though I hate listing such things as differentiating can be tough with plain numbering. It also depends on the mood and phase of life I'm in right now.

Love what they did with this album. It was short, but what else can you ask for after 7 years and 2 new band members? We were lucky to get A song let alone 10 new ones.

The album is strong but my fear is will it stand the test of time ? Will I be listening to, say, Stained or OEO (my least fav songs) in 5 years ? I mean, THP is my least fav record by the band but I still do enjoy listening even to my least fav songs off of it from time to time after a decade, I hope it will be the case of FZ too. So far I try to calm my hype for a new LP record and I stay on a 7/10. Super solid record, I never thought we would see a new LP album in the first place, not to mention i did not expect it to be THAT good and that big, so it'as already a dream.

After many spins, it's time to give a verdict.

 

From Zero (Intro): -/10; started off promising, became irrelevant quickly after, instant skip for me now because the talking doesn't add much to the overall experience.

The Emptiness Machine: 9/10; certified banger of a song. Feels fresh and familiar. Song structure is interesting and Emily absolutely kills it. Best song of the album.

Cut The Bridge: 4/10; Pretty unspectacular, kinda fun, but not much longevity.

Heavy Is The Crown: 5,5/10; a throwback to the old days, generic chorus, pretty cool raps, the bridge scream feels super forced and out of place to me, song got stale super quickly.

Over Each Other: 6,5/10; a lot happening during its short running time. I like the build-up, hook, atmosphere and the pay-off in the end.

Casualty: 7,5/10; super fun track, Mike's rap is unique for LP, the riffing is great, and I like punky songs. Well executed aside from the bridge which falls a bit flat.

Overflow: 6/10; aside from the ending pretty boring, uninteresting, forced "experimental" feel. Enjoyable moments, but overall not that appealing.

Two Faced: 8/10; Mike's bounce in the verses is fucking cool, great throwback to the old days, chorus is ok, Emily on the bridge and during the end is gnarly, enjoyable and fun track.

Staind: 4,5/10; became stale rather quickly, great radio track, nice change of pace, but overall unremarkable

IGYEIH: 8,5/10; Great vocal work by Emily and Mike, enjoyable riff, cool dramatic chorus, wild bridge/outro, not much to complain here.

Good Things Go: 7,5/10; strong album closer, enjoyable vocal melodies by both Emily and Mike, would have liked a bigger change on the last chorus.

 

Overall: 6,5/10

Of note: It's probably Mike's most diverse rap performance on that album. It helps to keep the songs varied. Emily is a great pick as the new vocalist, even though I'm already feeling disconnected from the band without Chester. The band is now a nostalgia act for me that I like to check out when they have new songs or a new album, but my hardcore fandom has come to an end with this album/era.

So it's been a couple of weeks with the album. I let the excitement settle down a bit and i waited for a perfect time to listen to the vinyl. The album on vinyl is sooooo gooood, the sound is just great. First, I love heavy music and like a lot of people LP were my entry band for heavy music, so usually I tend to like the heavier songs more. On From Zero they made the soft songs so freaking good that I have them among my favourite LP songs honestly. 

 

First of all. The Emptiness Machine, I love the song, I love the way they built it. It's easily the best song on the album and their best song since Living Things IMO. I love Good Things Go, that is a great album closer, the emotions in the song are so honest. IGYEIH seems to have mixed reception, I appreciate the THP vibes, but more evolved and again the emotions and sincerity in Em's vocal delivery makes this one stand out for me. Two Faced is a no brainer, that's just purest oldschool LP song in years. But I miss a bit of inovation in it, even though it checks for everything I love about LP. Overflow is just a great vibe. Love Mike's verses, great flow. Stained has that pop vibe without sacrificing the LP sound, the chorus is insanely catchy, Emily shines there for sure. Casualty is cool, even though I'm not a big fan of the bridge., but again great choice for Mike's vocals. Heavy Is The Crown is again a cool throwback to the oldschool LP sound, the bridge sounds a bit forced, but it's a great vocal take nonetheless. The chorus is fun, synths are cool as well. Cut The Bridge is cool, but I'm not fan of the gang chorus vocals, something throws me off about them. Might be that they are lower in the mix, maybe that they are not as much a gang vocals but a three people vocals if you get what I mean. 

 

Overall, great comeback album, a bit short though. But we can clearly see that they can do anything in this new lineup and that's a great promise for future albums. I hope they keep the guitars present in the mix. Oh and keep Joe's scratching! I missed that.

I’m not ready for a full-on album review yet. All I’ll say is that I like how hard it goes. It suits LP, their songwriting works best with a bit of edge. It’s a real rock record, with a good mix of experimentation too.

 

The only song I kinda dislike is Stained, which for me is reminiscent of 2010s pop like Katy Perry mixed with Imagine Dragons. Which are references that… let’s say, don’t do it for me. Good Things Go is a tad too melodramatic. But overall, a very solid album.
 

Anyway, the rankings look fun!

Yeah Stained is an easy skip for me, feels like I'm listening to a Rihanna/Katy Perry 2010 song... not my thing. And yeah I love GTG but it's a little bit melodramatic, Emily's part before the final " sometimes bad things take the place when good things go" is  al little too melodramatic, like the song you would put as soundtrack for a romantic movie... sometimes less is more

Ah, I hadn't given a song ranking. It's kind of tricky because I like them all, but I'd say

I am pretty sure this has been mentioned a few times. Not sure if on here, but its definitely on the internet. Similarly to the "Fuse" easter egg at the end of Casualty.

has anyone picked up that there is a one particular repetitive line in 2 songs that are after each other: 

Stained "But we both know forgotten doesn't mean forgiven (mean forgiven)"

&

IGYEIH "Forgotten doesn't mean that it's forgiven this time"

 

am I looking too deep into this, cause I doubt that its coincidence given that we know Mike's way of putting things together.
