RogueSoul
It's time to really get back in business! The second leg of the From Zero World Tour kicks off today, November 3, 2024 in Nanterre, France at the Paris La Défense Arena, with Sleep Token as support. Let's pick up from where we left off: the band wrapped up their first run of shows back on tour back in September, at the Inspire Arena in Incheon, South Korea. It was the first time the band had performed in the country since 2011, and the fans definitely let it be known that it had been far too long. Even Mike remarked after the show, "I think that was the loudest crowd yet," and we can't help but agree. A sold out arena sang Linkin Park's songs back at them almost as loud as they could play them, as the band delivered new hits like 'The Emptiness Machine' and 'Heavy Is The Crown' while still finding time for a mixture of fan-favorites ('Papercut,' 'Lying From You,' and more) and deep cuts (namely 'My December' and 'A Place For My Head'). The show concluded very grateful performance of 'Bleed It Out,' with Mike rapping a verse of the Xero song 'Reading My Eyes' over the bridge as a final treat for the amazing fans at the show. These shows have been unforgettable for both the band and the fans, and this is certain to continue in France! The band's performance of 'The Emptiness Machine' in Incheon was shown during the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France on November 1, 2024. Linkin Park's last performance in France was on their final tour with Chester - the One More Light European Tour in the summer of 2017. The band had two festival stops on the tour: the opening date of the tour at Download Paris and a show in Clisson at Hellfest. The band laid out new tracks like 'Heavy' and 'Battle Symphony' (which received pretty polarizing reactions at the Hellfest festival, but the band ultimately won the crowd over) while still finding time to refresh on older tracks, like bringing out a brand new intro featuring 'Remember The Name' for 'Waiting For The End.' These shows also featured the beloved 'Fallout' and 'Roads Untraveled' mashup intro that led straight into 'Talking To Myself!' The band's last headlining show in the country was almost ten years ago in November 2014 on The Hunting Party European Tour, featuring a huge set with heavy new tracks like 'Guilty All The Same' and 'Final Masquerade' and some special moments, like 'Runaway' leading into 'Wastelands' and 'The Catalyst' being sung over the 'Bleed It Out' bridge. Austin Carlisle from Of Mice & Men joined the band for 'Faint.' It's certainly been a long time coming for Linkin Park's return to France, and it's safe to say that this show will definitely line up with their hefty legacy of shows there! While missing France on the Living Things cycle, the band's shows there on the A Thousand Suns cycle were nothing short of legendary. The band performed at the Main Square Festival on July 1, 2011 toward the end of their second European Tour of the cycle, and though this was the first show ever to not feature 'One Step Closer' in the setlist at all, the band still brought a powerful show with new tracks like 'Iridescent' and 'When They Come For Me,' as well as other hard-hitters like 'From The Inside' and 'Crawling.' On the first European leg in 2010, the band performed in Paris the day after the 10th anniversary of Hybrid Theory, a moment they had to celebrate in style. And what other way to celebrate than performing 'A Place For My Head' in its entirety for the only time on the entire A Thousand Suns Tour?! This performance is one that hardcore fans know very well, and we simply can't have a pre-show for Paris without revisiting it. Linkin Park performing 'A Place For My Head' in full for the only time on the A Thousand Suns World Tour on October 24, 2010 in Paris, France. The band visited France a handful of times on the Minutes To Midnight World Tour. On the 2008 Winter European Tour, the band made two stops there, the latter of which was in Paris. The band opened with 'Wake' and 'Given Up,' exploding into one of their best setlists ever featuring a double encore of a rare 'In Between' and 'What I've Done' with its legendary AMBO Intro followed by 'Bleed It Out' with a drum solo and 'Faint' with its massive extended outro. The band's first show in Amneville, France on the tour was perhaps even more massive, with an absolutely devastating intro run of 'What I've Done' with its AMBO Intro, 'Faint,' 'No More Sorrow,' 'Somewhere I Belong,' 'Lying From You,' 'From The Inside,' and 'Points Of Authority' with an 'In Stereo' verse over the intro. Just nasty. The encores followed suit, the first featuring 'My December' and 'Breaking The Habit' and the second featuring 'A Place For My Head' with a guitar solo intro and 'One Step Closer' with its then-new extended outro. The band stopped there earlier on in the tour on the very first proper leg of it in May 2007, whipping out a 'One Step Closer' show opener as well as rare tracks like 'The Little Things Give You Away' and the piano version of 'Pushing Me Away,' on top of support from Thirty Seconds To Mars. One of the very first shows of the Meteora World Tour happened in Paris, early on in the LP Underground Tour. This show featured many rare Meteora tracks fresh off the burner, including 'Hit The Floor,' 'Easier To Run,' and 'Session.' The band played many shows in France in 2001 once they broke through to Europe following the release of Hybrid Theory. Their own headlining tour of Europe came in September 2001, with a show in Paris that featured a bunch of old specialties like 'And One' and 'Step Up,' as well as a brief tease of Guns N' Roses' ' Sweet Child O' Mine' before the show ended. During their opening spot on the Deftones' Back To School Tour in March 2001, the band played shows in Rezé and Paris, introducing Deftones fans to their music with the likes of 'By Myself' and 'Forgotten.' The band's very first show in Europe whatsoever happened at the start of the year in January, followed by their first TV appearance the next day, where they played 'One Step Closer' on Nulle Part Ailleurs. France has always been a part of Linkin Park's history, and that's definitely continuing today. Linkin Park's first TV appearance not only in Europe, but ever happened on the French TV show Nulle Part Ailleurs in January 2001. Back to the present, will Linkin Park have any surprises in store for us as they return to the stage? The band graced the stage yesterday for the Worlds 2024 Opening Ceremony, where they graced us with a special extended version of 'Heavy Is The Crown' with a new intro and bridge. While it's likely that these extensions were just meant for the theatrics of the event, it would be nice to see live variations get added to the new songs - a more stripped down version of the song is coming on the official Arcane Season 2 soundtrack later this month, so perhaps that could be incorporated into it! The band have been hard at rehearsals for much of October, so it's looking likely that at least a few changes will be thrown into the existing set. Perhaps another old song like 'No More Sorrow' or 'From The Inside' will get an Emily debut, or perhaps some new songs will be thrown into the mix: Emily herself claimed she's very excited to play 'Two Faced,' 'Overflow,' and 'Casualty' from the new record. The band has also released 'Over Each Other' from From Zero since they played their last show, so it's likely we'll see that get added into the set as well. Mike did say they are working on adding a new song or two to the set, so we'll have to see what goes down in Paris live! On top of the possible setlist changes, the band will be debuting their stadium stage at this show, not performing in the round on a 360 stage in the middle of the venue for this one (here's a peek at the stage setup), so it'll be interesting to see how everything translates to a different set up. Comment below what your guesses are as to what changes will be made to the set. The band has invited quite a lineup of artists to open up for them on this next run of shows, bringing in some of the new generation of rock music that they helped inspire to their stage. In Paris, the band will be preceded by none other than the theatrical and massive Sleep Token! I personally had a chance to see them at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City earlier this year, and I can wholeheartedly say that they put on a really incredible show. Known for their blending of metal and electronic and pop elements, Sleep Token have risen in the last few years as one of rock's most promising new acts. From dramatic rockers like 'Ascensionism' and 'Granite' to more emotional, atmospheric tracks like 'The Night Does Not Belong To God' and 'Euclid,' Sleep Token's sound will definitely resonate to those who have appreciated the more experimental qualities to Linkin Park's music. If you're going to Paris, be sure to arrive early enough to see them! Who's going to the show?! Weatherman Rogue Soul reporting in a pretty chilly day (~9°C) with sun and some clouds, so bundle up and get ready to jam if you're heading to Nanterre! An official merchandise booth will be located outside the venue starting at 10am, so if you're in the area and want some merch, stop by early! Linkin Park head back to the United States for a massive stadium show in Dallas, Texas on November 8 before heading down to South America for their very first show in Colombia and a pair of shows in São Paulo coinciding with the release of From Zero. For those excited to hear the album, the band will be hosting a huge array of listening parties around the world over the next weeks to give fans a chance to hear the album in its entirety before its out - we've compiled a full listing of them all, so check it out and see if anything's going on near you! As always, we'll have you covered with everything going on at this show and the forthcoming tour and in the Linkin Park world, so be sure to sign up on the forums and share your voice, and follow us on social media (Twitter/X, Instagram, and Facebook) to stay caught up with everything! YRQRM0
I'm gonna guess that something like LFY or POA gets a rotation with something like Runaway (boo) or FYI (yay) Friendly Fire might get left out for Over Each Other but I honestly hope it gets a little more time, or rotated for more actual OML tracks Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336438 Share on other sites
MMM
For me they should remove Given up and place HITC there. In old place of HITC insert Casualty. OEO should replace BTH. Definitely in later concerts they will remove other not single release tracks. Could be LFY/POA and replace them mayby with Two Faced or another new track. Joe solo and WTCFM is great break for Emily, Alex and Dave so this part should stay for full tour. Qwerty18
Damn full respect to @RogueSoul for the work on the pre-show posts, never fail to deliver. Hoping they keep a rotation spot for THP in the next run of shows. Seems like a good way to include this album. Even though to be honest, I'd be happy if it's always KTTK that gets played. OEO is certainly getting a premiere today. @GreyFox-AFCA have a great first LP show!! And the others who are going too Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336443 Share on other sites
NimaLP
Since they started playing KTTK, I kept thinking about how Emily would sound on War or MTG. Maybe not this year since there aren't many shows, but when they go proper touring I hope we see a lot of rotations with many different songs being played, not only singles. I know doing that is hard since there's a lot of stage production and lighting involved, beside that they need to practice all those songs, but one can still hope. As a person who's not able to go to the shows, I can't give much opinions on which songs they should drop, but I think most people would agree that Given Up has to go, or maybe be put in a rotation spot with two other songs like POA and LFY. We already have HITC as the song where Emily can showcase her screaming abilities (not counting potential ones such as Casualty). Qwerty18
I think the recordings don't do Given up justice to be honest. It's a song that instantly get the pit hyped up and moving. One of the highlights from the show I attended. Exactly, seeing it live was much stronger than any recording, especially this song, understood why they are not giving Emily “rest” and including it exactly in that place of the set, hopefully they will keep it at least for 24/25 cycle Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336450 Share on other sites
LeonardoMF93
About the recordings not doing it justice, I completely agree! That was the moment I was 100% convinced she was the best choice. Given Up and Keys to the Kingdom were the key moments for me. With those two songs, it was clear that she can easily sing anything in their discography. I even dream of the band putting in the effort to play every song ever released on the main albums, making up for the “debts” they still have with Living Things, The Hunting Party, and One More Light. Still, I think with the release of From Zero, a lot of deep cuts will be taken off the setlist. martinez
Just a weird echo/delay on the intro drums/first verse in OEO. Other than that, perfect. I mean it's a first time that song was played so I can forgive that. DelusionsOfAdequacy
I really like Emily's style in the performances, but she should adjust the timing a bit with the running around. JZLP-Benningstrong
I was expecting Emily to do the backup 'whoahs' and mike would be singing a bit. I didn't like that they used playback for that part but other than that, flawless performance it's such an easy song for them. It sounds way better live a bit more heavy. demoncarnotaur
Whoa the mixing and sounds for the instruments on Over Each other is WAY BETTER in the live version than the studio version, it sounds far less generic here Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336470 Share on other sites
YRQRM0
Am I correct thinking COG in the interludes is the first time we've had songs appear not only as their full self but in interlude/shortened form? And I guess same for BID in the rotation and the Numb/ITE melodies When the "lift me up let me go" intro in THP tour was used, Catalyst was not in the set, same for the NMS ebow melody, every rap Mike has done over another song, stuff in the Joe/Mike solos etc I wonder what is so special about COG to them for this tour to appear in multiple interludes and have the full song in the set Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336471 Share on other sites
NimaLP
I like that they didn't drop any of the songs and just simply added OEO to the setlist. DystopianBy
I captured Over Each Other and Waiting For The End Also for the show notes: Joe was late for Breaking the Habit, came on stage only in first chorus, so no scratches in intro/first verse Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/17807-20241103-nanterre-france-paris-la-d%C3%A9fense-arena/#findComment-336474 Share on other sites
