During the interview with Mike Shinoda in one of the "Pensado's Place" episodes, near the end of it when one of the program leaders was mentioning that Mike Elizondo will be guest in one of the next episodes, this is what Mike said about him: "Make sure you ask Mike Elizondo.... Mike Elizondo at one point for a very short period of time was the bass player for Linkin Park. Ask him about that story. Phoenix left us for a short time and Elizondo at that time was our top candidate for bass player. We asked him to be "on it"...we were doing it, and he said at a certain point... 'Man I don't know what to do. On one hand, you guys are doing so well and I love the music and on the other hand, Dre wants me to work on this new album with him and he's offering me points on the new record. It's this white kid from Detroit....Eminem.'" Mike Elizondo did collaborate on two songs from the new album From Zero - "Overflow" and "Heavy Is The Crown" where he did additional production on the songs. Also, the song was mixed by Rich Costey a Multi-platinum grammy award winner. Rich is known for his works of artists such as Muse, System Of A Down, My Chemical Romance, The Foo Fighters or The Killers. leftshoe18 Posted September 20 Share Posted September 20 That could make sense for additional collaborators or producers or whatever, but it's a little weird that they have different mixing and mastering credits. Those, in my opinion, should be handled at the end of the process together to make the most cohesive sound possible. Of course, professionals should be able to mix and master in a way that's cohesive with other parts of the same project. Don't think they finalized songs back then before going to EastWest Studios in 2023 with Emily - surely they are enough of a perfectionist band that they re-recorded everything then and made it super good, instead of keeping a ton of material from Mike's house. But I don't know that for sure. Brad said he didn't even meet Emily until they went to the studio - he met her many years after the rest of the band had been working with her. Brad may have just been a "Mike needs him for producer role as a shoulder to lean on for studio LP work" type of deal and Brad wanted to stay in the band after all, OR Brad trusted the other 3 the entire time to get things right before he eventually joined in (and he was never "out"). One of those two. I guess song credits can tell us more about everything. The confusing one is Rob since he didn't leave until very late 2022, or early 2023 just before Meteora 20. So he was aware of the sessions with Emily, likely even met her since he was involved as far back as 2019 with sessions. What a crazy situation with him. Maybe they sent all tracks to both mixers and they just choose 5 mixed by Neal and the other 5 mixed by Rich. As a producer myself, the only reason for not using the same guy is to have different sounds of the mixes and masters. Coizu Posted September 21 Share Posted September 21 The song most probably had to be submitted to Riot weeks, if not months ago. Riot had to make a decision if it's the right song for the Worlds anthem, they make the music video, they plan and prepare the whole production for the opening ceremonies etc. So the song was most likely mixed way before any other song was ready for the mixing process and before they thought about who will mix the album. Also Riot is usually involved in the creation process of the anthem (Star Walkin last year was the only exception as far as I am aware so far) so it is possible that Riot had some input here as well.
