2017.05.19 - Las Vegas, NV - CBS's SPF
danielpsoad-09 replied to hahninator's topic in Previous Show Discussion
It´s waaaay buried in the back, but I think it´s a high falsetto like he did it in the first couple of live performances. I wish the higher pitch backing vocals (done by Mike live) during the chorus were more present in the studio version though. -
I've listened to the album a few times already. To sum it up, I like this record more than I thought I would (thanks LP for releasing the weak shit earlier?) but it´s definitely on my bottom 3 (with Meteora, and Living Things) While I enjoy listening to most of these tracks, a common denominator for me is that a lot of times I feel like the songs end up going nowhere. What I mean by that is that they start slow, build up, get louder, and then right after the 2nd chorus I just kept on waiting for the "oh shit" moment that never happened. It´s almost like they are incomplete. 01 Nobody Can Save Me: I like this song but the chorus sounds like a verse to me. I wished it had a stronger chorus and a better breakdown/bridge. 02 Good Goodbye: Not a fan of the features. Mike could have just had his own verses. Chorus is catchy. 03 Talking to Myself: Great song! I wished the production was better. I feel like it lacks the energy we´ve seenon the live performances. 04 Battle Symphony: I still like this song, even though it´s one of those that sound flat since it just never "explodes" 05 Invisible: Not a huge fan, but after listening to the official instrumental, I really like the subtle details in the background. 06 Heavy: It's catchy, I'll give you that, but it´s definitely my least favorite on the album. 07 Sorry for Now: I really like this one. It has a great vibe, although I wish those chipmunks weren't there. It´s probably the only song that develops and takes you to different places until the very end. 08 Halfway Right: I also like this one, but it's another example of a song that I wish had a better bridge. 09 One More Light: Probably my favorite song on the record. Beautifully done, even though I wished that last chorus had a full band and some strings. Still solid. 10 Sharp Edges: Another song that I really like. And just like most of the album, I feel it lacks a better bridge at the end. Overall a decent collection of songs (I don't see any of them making it to my top 10 or 15 LP tracks of all time though). Besides the chipmunks, and the lack of surprise on these songs, I still wonder why in the hell Shinoda can´t just have a real acoustic drum sound on these songs. What is the point of having a drummer track songs if on most of them, it{s going to sound like they were made on a computer. I feel like a lot of these songs (Battle Symphony, Invisible, Sharp Edges, to name a few) would have an extra "punch" and energy if they had Rob´s original drum track.

I'm not sure if this is officially the "first" review for OML (I think a scan with Kerrang´s review was uploaded today), but Heavymag from Australia has posted their album review here: https://heavymag.com.au/album-review-linkin-park-one-more-light/#.WRTuUfk1_IU

Another meh song. Don't hate it, but I'll probably only listen to it whenever I listen to the album from beginning to end. Also, I'd like to know why Mike hates a real snare sound so much. As a drummer, it drives me nuts that everything that Rob plays on an acoustic kit ends up sounding like a beat Mike could have just programmed.

I got pit tickets for Charlotte. I have been trying to get pit tickets for Cincy, but even though I'm from Lpu and was 140 in the list (didn't even wait until 2pm since I saw that time or spots didn't matter), there are no pit tickets available unless you buy their $250 premium bullshit package.

Good show. I´m very impressed with Talking to Myself, I like it a lot more than any of the other songs released so far. Obviously we will never be 100% satisfied with their setlists, and unfortunately with a 7th album now, we´ve reached the point in which 95% of their live show will consist of singles. Now, if I had to make changes to the current set (without being one of those idiots that like to post their top 22 LP songs including b-sides or stuff we know they'll never play again), I would suggest two realistic changes: -Get rid of the Castle of Glass mix and replace it with Final Masquerade (if they want something mellow) or one high energy song (APFMH, No More Sorrow or Wretches and Kings) -If they are only going to play ONE fucking song from THP (my favorite album), I'd be happy with GATS, Rebellion or ALITS instead of Wastelands.

Linkin Park presents their "Let's ignore the southeast tour". Anyway, I'll try to make it to the Cincy and Charlotte shows.

North American Tour Cities + Presale Announced

It´s fixed now, but the way the original post was written was misleading. I'm surprised Atlanta is not on the list. -
North American Tour Cities + Presale Announced
danielpsoad-09 replied to RogueSoul's topic in Newswire
I doubt they will be playing all those cities. I´m sure they are just trying to get people interested around the country and email when the band is somewhat "close.". I just don´t see them playing Memphis AND Nashville, for instance. -

New interview with Mike for MDR Jump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YGpNpdMmI0 Not a lot of new stuff, but he does talk in depth about Invisible, Sorry For Now, and One More Light.

Very interesting reads! They're both main page worthy.

New interview about OML with Brad and Joe for Shock in Colombia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD_AH0HKCsY . Here´s the translation to the questions and Brad´s answers in Spanish: On whether it´s a concept album or not: Brad said that they didn' try to make a concept album, they just wanted to write honest and personal songs (then he gives up in Spanish and continues in English lol) How long did it take to write the album: Brad said that they had been writing music for 2 years, but the album itself took aproximately a year and a half. They wrote close to 70 songs, and then picked their 10 favorite songs to be part of OML. Third question is about "dark lyrics" on the album, and he answers in English. On the song Heavy: He said that it´s a good introduction to the album because it represents the album sonically. Question 5 is on how the collaboration with Kiiara came about, and Joe answers in English, Question 6 is whether they are going to donate money off of the album sales. Answer in English. Question 7 is on how it felt to make music 20 years ago. Joe answers in English.

I've been revisiting some of LP's "poppy" catalog, and for me, "Primo" is the prime example of a "pop sounding" song that sounds fresh, experimental, and more importantly, sounds like Linkin Park, No need for loud guitars or acoustic drums to make a sound great when the songwriting is good.
-
-I like this song more than Heavy. It sounds like something LP could have put out at any point in their career unlike Heavy which to me screams "we'll do anything to be on the radio again". - I enjoy Chesters 's clean vocals, however, the instrumental is very poor. If they had all the melodies and lyrics first (which Mike said was the process this time around), I can't believe all they could come up with for the music was a beat Mike probably made in 5 minutes. I'm still not expecting anything from this album. It's still sad that they went from a record like THP (in which at least they pushed themselves musically) to making songs like this.
-
I think that happens pretty much on 95% of the music they write. The only time where I think it didn't happen (as much) was during the MTM process (basically because we have a documentary showing all members bringing in stuff, and for instance, The Little Things started as a "drum idea") but for the most part it seems like that Mike and Brad tell Dave and Rob what to play in a song.

I guess it´s gonna be the LP West Coast Tour 2017 with 10 shows in California. In all seriousness, cool for Mike to do stuff like this (maybe LPU chat next time?).

New OML Songs: Mike, Chester and Brad Perform @ Warner Bros
danielpsoad-09 replied to RogueSoul's topic in Newswire
Those two clips sound pretty good. OML specially sounds freakin amazing. I'm not gonna raise my expectations just yet, but this definitely gives me more hope for this album. -
Yeah, same interview where Chester said that he got "tingles" when he heard the opening riff for GATS and made him want to write rock songs forever. Just pure bullshit. Thats the worst part of all of this, going back to those interviews and then realizing that they are making the exact same music they wanted to avoid just two years ago. Like WTF?
-
Am I the only one that cringes after hearing the "To let my mind stay so fucking messy" line? Like for real? 6 band members, 3 songwriters and Kiiara, so a total of 10 freaking people and everyone agreed that that was a good line? C'mon now.
-
Not really sure where to start. Do I like the song? Hell no. Is it the worst song LP has done? No, A Light that Never Comes still wins. I wasn't really expecting much based on the interviews/teasers so luckily I didn't get disappointed. I admit that I like the "heavier" side of LP, however I appreciate a good song even it's a mellow one. In fact, Breaking the Habit is still one of my favorite songs even if it's borderline pop. Heavy, though, sounds like a uninspired and desperate attempt to be on the radio again. The chorus melody is decent but that first verse is atrocious. I can't believe they spent all of 2014 talking "trash" about the generic-over saturated market of indie/alternative rock bands which led them to do THP. Well, not a lot has changed yet they decide to put out a song (and possibly an album) that fits that description. Anyway, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and wait until the album is released, however, my expectations are as low as they can be considering Mike said Heavy is a good representation of the record. I'm hoping to at least hear a few good songs so that it ends up being kinda like how I experienced Living Things (I hated Burn it Down but at least half of LT was decent)
