2014.05.24 - Tucson, AZ - KFMA Day 2014

Sold My Soul to Yo Mama contains a bunch of original music recorded specifically for that song. This does not. -
What the hell is so bad about digicams? If it records in HD with 30fps or better and the audio quality is decent, isn't that just as good, if not better than what camcorders were capable of a few years ago? This isn't 2004 anymore when digicams recorded mono audio with a max resolution of 480p at 24fps, lol. I'll never understand the snobby "I'd rather have incomplete song clips recorded with professional gear than a complete digicam source" attitude that's popped up in the taping community the last few years. My video recordings are done with a Sony DSC-W690, they're better than a bunch of the other shit you see on Youtube and DEFINITELY better than anything people put on Instagram, and I'm not sorry about it. Judge recordings with your eyes and ears, not with your wallet, people.

I'd say keep the song "title" in the left column as "Medley: Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone (Recharged)" (you can call it "Hip-Hop Medley 2.0" if you want, that's up to you), and then in the right column with the song notes put something like (w/Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone/In My Remains instrumental). Hell of a long note for one song entry, but probably the best way to do it. -
http://lplive.net/shows/db/stonetemplepilots/20140401 "The setlist order was completely different than what the band had been playing in 2012." Should say 2013, not 2012. Not really something that NEEDS to be corrected, per se, but I noticed the Stone Temple Pilots forum under "LP / LIVE" is the only subforum in that group that isn't protected. Probably an oversight when it was created, since it's a newer subforum.

I'm pretty much set on the naming for most things, just kind of on the fence about some of the "interlude"-type stuff, whether to make certain things their own track or list them as intros to other songs. I think my deciding factor will be whether or not they contain parts of the song they're leading into, like how The Catalyst/No More Sorrow mashup has samples from Until It's Gone in it and leads straight into UIG. Really anxious to see the intro to POA, the entire Robot Boy/Joe solo sequence leading into BID, and the shortened versions of ALTNC/LITE/Crawling/New Divide at the end of the show. -

Here's my latest incarnation of the setlist. Songs with a * are ones that have substantial videos posted so far (not necessarily full song videos, but enough to tell what's going on): *01. The Catalyst/The Requiem (Mash-up intro) *02. Guilty All the Same *03. Given Up (w/extended outro) 04. Points of Authority (w/short extended intro) *05. One Step Closer (w/extended outro) 06. Blackout (Shortened - instrumental intro only) 07. Papercut (shortened) *08. With You (2012 intro, shortened) *09. Runaway (shortened, transition outro w/Wastelands verse 1) *10. Wastelands *11. Castle of Glass (Experience version, piano transition outro) *12. Ballad Medley (LOATR/SOTD/Iridescent) 13. Robot Boy (Instrumental interlude) 14. Burn it Down (w/extended intro) 15. Waiting For the End (Until it Breaks intro, Wall of Noise outro) *16. Hip-Hop Medley 2.0 (Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone - Recharged) *17. Numb (Numb/Encore intro/outro) *18. In the End 19. Faint (w/extended outro) *20. Until It's Gone (w/extended The Catalyst/No More Sorrow mash-up intro) 21. A Light That Never Comes (shortened) 22. Lost in the Echo (shortened, drum outro) 23. Crawling (shortened) 24. New Divide (shortened) *25. What I've Done (w/extended guitar solo bridge) *26. Bleed it Out (w/drum solo and The Catalyst bridge) I combined the Catalyst/NMS thing into the UIG intro since it also contains samples from UIG itself. Papercut/Blackout may get the same treatment once a video of it surfaces, depending on how it was arranged. No idea yet on the Robot Boy interlude thing, since there's supposed to be a "Joe solo" in between there too. That may end up being condensed into one track too. Also, big note on Runaway/Wastelands - there's a transition there. After the chorus of Runaway, Mike raps the first verse of Wastelands over a variation of the beat from the Runaway bridge. The tempo slows down during this transition, THEN Wastelands starts, so Mike actually ends up rapping the first verse of the song twice. 1. It wasn't that bad. 2. No way would they go to the trouble of rehearsing something that unique and only play it once, especially for a relatively insignificant show like this. 3. It sounded a hell of a lot better than the album version of COG did live. -
I have the complete ATS and Living Things tour pick sets (36-43 and 50-59 on your list). If any of those would be helpful, let me know. BTW, "Tortex" isn't a company, it's just a specific line of picks that Dunlop manufactures.

He was actually with them up through the shows this January and even helped design the new guitar rigs for this tour, his departure came pretty late in the game (I won't get into why, but it was a combination of a couple different things). Sad to see him go, he was the second longest-tenured member of the LP crew, after Jim Digby. I got to hang out with Sean at his shop in Nashville the other day when I was on my way back home from my honeymoon though, and he's doing well. Sounds like things kind of worked out for the best for him, it means he gets to work on GGP and Roadiemade full-time now, and I know it was tough for him not seeing his family much over the past few years. I know I gave Ben Chandler a hard time over the GATS thing, but I wish him the best of luck. He got thrown into that situation without a lot of time to prepare for it. -

So here's what I've got for a revised setlist: 01. The Catalyst/The Requiem (Intro mashup) 02. Guilty All the Same 03. Given Up (w/extended outro) 04. Points of Authority (w/short extended intro) 05. One Step Closer (w/extended outro) 06. Blackout (Instrumental intro) 07. Papercut (shortened) 08. With You (2012 intro, shortened) 09. Runaway (shortened) 10. Wastelands 11. Castle of Glass (Experience version, piano outro) 12. Ballad Medley (LOATR/SOTD/Iridescent) 13. Robot Boy (Instrumental interlude) 14. Burn it Down (w/extended intro) 15. Waiting For the End (Until it Breaks intro, Wall of Noise outro) 16. Hip-Hop Medley 2.0 (Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone - Recharged) 17. Numb (Numb/Encore intro/outro) 18. In the End 19. Faint (w/extended outro) 20. The Catalyst/No More Sorrow/Until It's Gone (Intro mashup) 21. Until It's Gone 22. A Light That Never Comes (shortened) 23. Lost in the Echo (shortened, drum outro) 24. Crawling (shortened) 25. New Divide (shortened) 26. What I've Done (w/extended bridge) 27. Bleed it Out (w/drum solo and The Catalyst bridge) The spaces between sections don't have to be included, I just put them there to follow the printed setlist. Obviously the "shortened" notations are subject to change, various reports have some of those songs being played in full. Joe's solo spot may end up being its own track too if it turns out to have a bunch of pieces of other songs in it like the other new interludes do, but no videos of that have shown up yet. REALLY hoping they keep this set for Rock in Rio so we can get a full recording of it. -

Sean's no longer working with LP, unfortunately. New guitar tech's name is Ben Chandler, he used to work for Deftones. -

LOL, epic fail on the new guitar tech's part. Mike's guitar wasn't working at the start of the song, and as soon as he fixed it, Brad's quit working and didn't come back until the song was almost over. First song of your first show as the new guy, and that happens? Ouch. The transition into Numb/Encore from the end of that sounded REALLY abrupt, like something skipped. Hmm. And FYI, that medley is lyrically a combination of Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone (Recharged), but MUSICALLY it's a combination of Wretches and Kings/Skin to Bone (album version)/Remember the Name/In My Remains. VERY cool! Rob's been doing gallops on Bleed it Out for years with a single pedal. Probably not actually using the double pedal for that one. -

I'm thinking for the sake of not having 25+ song setlists when a bunch of the songs aren't full, maybe we should do it like this: 01. Drawbar? 02. Guilty All the Same 03. Given Up 04. Points of Authority 05. One Step Closer (w/extended outro) *Blackout interlude (intro instrumental, into...) 06. Papercut 07. With You (2012 intro) *Runaway interlude (First verse/chorus, into...) 08. Wastelands 09. Castle of Glass (w/Recharged bridge and piano outro, into...) 10. Ballad Medley (Leave Out All the Rest/Shadow of the Day/Iridescent) 11. The Summoning? 12. Burn it Down 13. Waiting For the End (w/Until it Breaks intro and Wall of Noise outro) 14. Hip-Hop Medley 2.0 (Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone - Recharged) 15. Numb (Numb/Encore intro and outro) 16. In the End 17. Faint 18. Until It's Gone *A Light That Never Comes interlude (First verse/chorus, into...) 19. Lost in the Echo *Crawling interlude (First verse/chorus, into...) 20. New Divide 21. What I've Done 22. Bleed it Out (w/drum solo and The Catalyst bridge) Very curious to see a picture of an actual setlist for this one. -

Because that was such a shock, considering there's piano throughout a huge chunk of the song. FYI he plays guitar on the track as well. -
There is no official audio of that show other than one track (From the Inside). There's an audience bootleg of the full show.

Not true, the Enth e Nd demo we have is nearly identical to the final version and has the same vocals that appear on Reanimation. Yes, High Power Rap is the origin of that vocal sample. I confirmed as much with LPLive staff in the past, no idea who found the Dr. Dre song and changed the info, I've never even heard it. With You was the first song to feature another artist (Dust Brothers). Nobody's Listening had David Zasloff playing flute too.
-
Last I knew, yes.

Not Alone - Making of Not Alone, track info from Mike. Doesn't specifically CALL the song a Minutes to Midnight demo, but they specify that it was a demo they had sitting around for a while and brought back into the fold. Guitars on Not Alone are Fender Stratocasters, which LP didn't use until Minutes to Midnight = MTM demo. Pretend to Be = Common sense, really. If it was finished in 2008 and started before then like the band said...again, Fender Stratocasters = MTM demo. The band wasn't doing a lot of demos while on the road in between MTM and ATS, they did that a lot for Meteora but not so much before/after MTM. They started doing it a lot again during the ATS touring cycle. In the case of Pretend to Be, if they finished it in 2008 they probably wouldn't have gone out of their way to mention that they "started" the song and then left it sitting aside for a while unless the release of MTM fell between the point they started and finished the song. Not Alone is SLIGHTLY more likely to have been started later, maybe during the period they were doing demos while recording New Divide, but again, why would they go out of their way to specify that there was an unusual "dormant" period for that demo if they didn't start it until around the time they were starting ATS demos (keep in mind, tracks like Robot Boy date back to the same timeframe as when they were working on New Divide). It had to have come from earlier than that, which means unless it was a random "road demo" from like 2008, it would have been started prior to MTM.
-
We debated it and came up with "The Radiance (live version)" as an agreed-upon title for the purpose of the live guide before it ever appeared on ATS+. I think that may have been a case of the fanbase inventing a title for something and the band deciding to go with it later.

It's awful in a way that I can't even sugar-coat. I considered going on there and editing a fuckton of stuff, but quickly realized that it'd be a completely futile effort. Both of those examples are 100% false, by the way.
-
It's gonna be fun to read all the forum bitching when they don't play High Voltage and everyone complains that Digby "said they were going to play it" even though he didn't confirm or deny anything, lol. Rule #1 of managing a band: Never say anything that would disappoint the fans. If they ask you about something that you know isn't happening, give them some form of "maybe" so you can't be called a liar either way.

He was running the Pro Tools rig when Mike Einziger recorded his guitar parts (probably done on the road during the Honda Civic Tour), but he didn't really "produce" anything, unless you count him suggesting to Avicii that he should have Aloe Blacc sing on it.

Ahh, so Chester's part was another Brad demo. Wonder if the original one has Brad singing on it then.
