  1. Thanks a lot. Just messaged Keith Holler. So I was browsing through that list of bands on Yahoo and found out that the band Necessary Enemy were using the same website and the exact same description ("A fresh and new alternative rock band that is taking Phoenix, Arizona by storm. Their following of dedicated fans are growing enormous as they gradually outgrow the clubs on the Phoenix circuit"), but their link was: http://alice-bbs.com/ne/ There were at least two shows that Grey Daze and Necessary Enemy performed together. One is already in the guide and another one is in the first post of this topic. The website thing got me a little suspicious, so I contacted Necessary Enemy's guitarist Bill Forrest to ask him if the two bands are as connected to each other as it seems to me. Bill: Necessary Enemy and Grey Daze has a lot of connections. The drummer for Grey Daze was Sean Dowdell (who later founded Club Tattoo), my bass player was his uncle Bruce Dowdell, and the rhythm player was Josh Dowdell (Bruce's son), along with our drummer Terry Hoffman (Bruce's nephew and Sean's cousin and known as Wookie is currently a well respected tattoo artist in Club Tattoo). We also shared a rehearsal studio in south Phoenix since we practiced on different days. We did multiple shows with Grey Daze including one mainstage show at the Electric Ballroom, but they were definitely the bigger band playing the bigger venues while we stuck mostly in smaller Mason Jar style venues. Lack of a better way to describe us, I got many people asking if it was us on the radio when Matchbox Twenty first hit, so that should give you an idea. We would randomly even do one GD tune as a cover on occasion. I do remember one night we had a studio party together and at the end Chester and I basically carried each other to my bass players van so we could get home after countless drinks. Chester and Sean had been together since high school in a band called "Sean Dowdell And His Friends?" And always had a strong punk calling, when Chester took a short break from LP I got to see him and Sean in their own band "Bucket of Weenies" play and really let their punk shine. EDIT: Also, new shows that are not in the guide: 1997.06.06 Tempe, AZ, Electric Ballroom (with Failure, Poster Children and Jesus Chrysler Supercar) http://web.archive.org/web/19991009004346/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/060597/music/rock.html ^ That one was in the guide, actually 1997.09.06 Tempe, AZ, Big Fish Pub (with Love Not Human and Thinkadectomy) http://web.archive.org/web/19991001235743/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/090497/music/rock.html 1997.10.03 Tempe, AZ, Big Fish Pub (with Zig Zag Black, John and Bldg.5) http://web.archive.org/web/20000118194235/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1997/100297/music/rock.html ^ Notice the page also lists Grey Daze opening for BOTH Faith No More and Limp Bizkit in Electric Ballroom. It looks like the show was then moved to Celebrity Theater and Grey Daze were dropped from the bill. 1997.11.07 Phoenix, AZ, Mason Jar (with Oil, Necessary Enemy, Hubcap, We Drink Rain and Underlye) http://web.archive.org/web/20000122034923/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/110697/music/rock.html 1997.12.12 Tempe, AZ, Mill Avenue Sport Rock Cafe (with Eric Hates Everything) http://web.archive.org/web/20000117033425/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/121197/music/rock.html 1997.11.15 Tempe, AZ, Big Fish Pub (with M.I.R.V., Fred Green and Gemini Lounge) http://web.archive.org/web/19991012011045/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/111397/music/rock.html 1998.01.17 Tempe, AZ, Mill Avenue Sport Rock Cafe (with Jan Zero, Rub Cleo and Blue Healer) http://web.archive.org/web/19991009091039/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1998/011598/music/rock.html 1998.03.20 Tempe, AZ, Mill Avenue Sport Rock Cafe (with Hollow and Jan Zero) http://web.archive.org/web/19990827230336/http://phoenixnewtimes.com/1998/031998/music/rock.html 1998.10.23 Tempe, AZ, Mill Avenue Sport Rock Cafe (with The Robies, GPT Restraint and Sidetracked) http://web.archive.org/web/19990826133235/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1998/102298/music/rock.html Also, confirmations for known shows + additional bands to list on the pages: http://web.archive.org/web/19991125104451/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/072497/music/rock.html http://web.archive.org/web/19991001204414/http://phoenixnewtimes.com/1998/031298/music/rock.html http://web.archive.org/web/19991003042037/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/101697/music/rock.html http://web.archive.org/web/20000126132354/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996/121897/music/rock.html http://web.archive.org/web/19991011191658/http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1998/101598/music/rock.html
  2. So I just found Grey Daze's official webpage from around 1996... and it wasn't archived http://alice-bbs.com/gd/ Source The description says: A fresh and new alternative rock band that is taking Phoenix, Arizona by storm. Their following of dedicated fans are growing enormous as they gradually outgrow the clubs on the Phoenix circuit.
  3. This article says it all, I believe: http://www.mtv.com/news/1450324/linkin-park-countdown-to-revolution-and-rest/
  4. Cool find. Would love to hear him singing "Strangelove" though. On a related note, I didn't follow Julien-K for a long time, so I never knew they actually performed "Let Down" without Chester once. Was pretty shocked to read about this in the guide. lol
  5. Thank you very much, Mark. Are you reffering to the set times posted in this topic? I think I posted the picture like 12 minutes after it appeared on Facebook. I guess I did the right thing. lol
  6. "Vasoline" was played at the soundcheck/rehearsal as well: https://www.facebook.com/EricScottWilliams/videos/vb.1216231277/10208879692129021/?type=2&theater
  7. Saw pieces of "Vasoline", "Sex Type Thing", "Big Empty", "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart", "Interstate Love Song", "Plush", "Wicked Garden" and "Big Bang Baby" on Instagram. Chester sounded very good. The feedback from attenders is very positive as well. Chester also reportedly took off his shoes and auctioned them for charity for 750$.
  8. Video from soundcheck: https://www.facebook.com/seanbart/videos/10154131350955854/ Set times: https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlp1/v/t1.0-9/12801554_10154131351100854_3628086797067977938_n.jpg?oh=c6d62f539f4a5a46ec9ee85fef2a6920&oe=577F6023
  9. Awesome to have you reporting. Have a great time!
  10. New 1994 Grey Daze date! 1994.12.27 Tempe, AZ, Electric Ballroom (with Posted Green, Reuben's Accomplice and Nihil) Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20010304074642/http://nihil.cx/past.html As you know, Nihil is Scott Crowley's band (See Grey Daze's Scott Crowley demo sessions).
  11. Thanks. If it's not a secret for whatever reason, can you tell me where did you get both of your copies from?
  12. We also probably shouldn't list this show: http://lplive.net/shows/db/2000andearlier/20000922
  13. Thanks, added info about StaticXero to the first post. Structure wise I'll leave it as that for now. I remember some person telling a story of him bringing his SDAHF tape to a meet-n-greet for Chester to sign it and Chester being shocked to see it. Any idea who that might be? Will's copy is signed, I believe. Was it him? Also, who is this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/252163236040?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  14. I'd like to count all of the known copies of "Sean Dowdell And His Friends?" tape, so I need a little bit of assistance from collectors right here. Copy 1 & 2: Back in July, 2014 Bpercy of lpcatalog.com posted a high quality rip of his tape saying: Bprecy has sold his copy to StaticXero just recently. Will's (aka ---Woco21---) copy has been up for sale some time ago as well. Not sure of it's current status. Copy 3 & 4: ---Woco21--- talking about other owners: Copy 5: Back in 2008, someone posted this: http://www.heartofmetal.net/t5973-the-cassette-demo-collecting-thread From what I can see on the picture, it doesn't look like Bpercy's copy to me. I'd list it as a separate copy for now, but chances are it's either the previous owner of Will's copy or Will himself or the owner of the Copy #3/4. Copy 6: David Knauer has a copy. Copy 7: Jason Cekoric has a copy.
  15. I'd say it's one of the photos done by Mike Walliser in La Jolla (San Diego) for "Wake Me" in 1994. It's Jason, Chester, Jonathan and Sean on the photo. Mike did all of the photo shoots for the band around 1994-1996. Too bad he doesn't have the majority of the shots anymore.
  16. Just found out that person was talking about the show Grey Daze played with Tripping With Grace in Rally Kap Bar. Removing this info from the first post because it's already in the guide.
  17. Chester first informed STP that he is leaving 8-9 months ago: http://wrif.com/episodes/the-deleo-bros/
  18. So I guess, people that told me that the band has only played once in Castles N' Coasters were not entirely correct. There were obviously a few shows. Show attendee: "I remember seein one of the early incarnations of jimmy eat world play at Castles N Coasters in Glendale, AZ way back in the day. The opening band was Gray Daze with Chester from Linkin Park on vocals. There were like 30-40 people there. It's amazing that Jimmy Eat World is even still around...they have a few good songs though". Show attendee: "@jimmyeatworld I remember seeing you guys at Castles and Coasters in about '94 and skateboarding with some of you in a Mesa parking garage". Show attendee: "Well, it was awhile ago. I remember they played Castles and Coasters, which I thought was a strange place to have bands. A local rock dj fronted a cover band that played before them. The only other thing I remember from that show was Chester's wife and her baby stroller". The person who was selling that 1996 photo signed by the band @ Castles N' Coasters on eBay: "I can't be sure but I think it was during the summer of 1998". Also, according to him, they weren't opening for Jimmy Eat World at the show. There weren't any other bands at all. Jonathan Krause: "I did not play the Castles and Coaster show. It was probably 97". I also contacted members of Shaded Grey to ask about the shows they were playing with Grey Daze and their reply was: "No idea on the dates, but one was at the Mason Jar and another was at Castles N Coasters I believe". I then asked them: "I've heard about the Castles N' Coasters show. Someone once said that the opening band for this show was some cover band fronted by local rock DJ. Another person told me that Grey Daze was opening for Jimmy Eat World at the show. Probably two different shows. Does any of them sound like the show you are talking about?". Their answer was: "Hmm... it might be the first one with the cover band. I believe we played after that but before Grey Daze. Tough to remember". ********************************************************************************* I got in touch with a great guy from SOLEYduncan and his friend. According to them there was also a Grey Daze/SOLEYduncan show in Atomic Cafe. I also got a confirmation of Guitar Center's Opening Party show from them along with a few details: Steven: Even rmbr Grey Days show opening the new Guitar Center on I17 n Peoria whr Mike was Working...... Me: Steven, I've heard about the Guitar Center show, but don't have any info about it in the guide. I even tried to contact the current staff of the shop, but he wasn't helpful. Do you remember the exact date? Or maybe there's a way to figure it out? Steven: All I remember is that it was for Guitar. Centers Grand Opening. So if you can find out that date??? Me: Can't seem to find anything about that gig online. Am I right thinking that the store was first opened in 1998, then closed, then re-opened in 2000, but on a different spot of the same building? Steven: Ya I believe so. The show was on a dirt field just west or next to store. B4 other buildings were built. Had to be 98. Me: Thanks a lot. It helps. Also, were they the only band on the bill? Steven: I believe so. I dont think they had many songs as I recall them play some over again. There were huge lines. Lots of peps there for Grand Opening. Not sure if this one was mentioned but SD also opened for Grey Days at the Atomic Cafe once. No idea the date. SD went on first, then sm other band. Then Grey Daze. I think we all left b4 Grey Days went on... Me: Weird about them playing some songs over again at that Guitar Center gig. They had something like 30+ songs by 1998. Great to know about the Atomic Cafe show. I'll try to look for this one as well. Thanks for a clue! Steven: Cool. Maybe they played the hit songs over. There were long lines going in so the crowd was changing as peps walked in. Good luck.... Then I found this document, according to which the store was opened in 1997: http://www.getfilings.com/o0001047469-99-009580.html ********************************************************************************* http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php/topic/12259-confession-time/page-5?do=findComment&comment=229112 ********************************************************************************* Summing it all up, I'm adding the following shows to the first post: Grey Daze playing in Castles N' Coasters without other bands Grey Daze playing in Castles N' Coasters with Jimmy Eat World Grey Daze playing in Castles N' Coasters with Shaded Grey and "a cover band fronted by a local rock DJ" Grey Daze playing in Mason Jar with Shaded Grey Grey Daze playing with SOLEYduncan in Atomic Cafe Grey Daze playing with Travolta I'd like to remove the following shows from the guide: xxxx.xx.xx Tempe, AZ, Fender Showcase Room @ Electric Ballroom xxxx.xx.xx Phoenix, AZ, Castles N' Coasters it was nice to have them for a while, but now they look a bit unnecessary. I'd like to add this one instead: 1997.xx.xx Phoenix, AZ, Guitar Center, Grand Opening "Grand Opening" is a legit title for Guitar Center's opening parties.
  19. http://profileengine.com/groups/profile/431098642/soleyduncan?offset=60 This one is solved! New Grey Daze show: 1997.10.17 Tempe, AZ, The Bash On Ash @ McDuffy's (with SOLEYduncan and Necessary Enemy) The names on the scans are hilariously misspelled. Also attached an ad for the Earth Day festival page. Changed the event name from "Earth Day '96 Festival" to "Earth Day '96 Festival/Reaching For 2000" EDIT: Also added two more clippings for existing pages.
  20. New clipping for http://lplive.net/shows/db/greydaze/19980213
  21. New Sean Dowdell And His Friends Show! Attached the flyer. 1993.05.01 Phoenix, AZ, Street Survivors, "Schools Out Rave For Summer" Warehouse Rave Party with Boodaloo, Bog Pig & The Fishmuddle and Plasterfish Also, one more random mention https://www.quora.com/Is-the-only-Vocal-audio-out-there-for-Skid-Rows-18-and-life-song Also, attached one more picture for the show Grey Daze opened for Vince Neil. It mentioned twice on the picture. Grey Daze isn't announced though, just like on the flyer from the show.

  23. Awesome find. I love Cocteau Twins and she's a great artist. Funny, because, thanks to Z-Trip, you can actually hear her and Chester on the same track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWSUbYfGnbY
  24. We have two shows in 2001 - Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park (not counting the cancelled Reading USA festival). It also looks like the band was set to open for LP in Hollywood Palladium, but it doesn't look like it happened: https://web.archive.org/web/20010418134916/http://www.boyhitscar.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000235.html
