That's funny you mention that because the OML album has probably one of the best production sounds in the entire LP catalogue. The production quality and sound of each track is enormous. Crank it in the headphones and sonically it all sounds really fantastic, even the versions on the LP YouTube. You can tell whoever is responsible for the final sound really put a lot of work into it. It's refreshing compared to the deliberately raw sound of The Hunting Party. I will get into the production issues with Amends in another thread, but not in this one.

Looking back at the One More Light album on my iTunes, quite a few of the songs have under 10 plays (Heavy, Good Goodbye, Battle Symphony, Invisible, Halfway Right) three years later. There isn't much replay value in a majority of the album for me and so inevitably, this is Linkin Park's weakest album for me. The Hunting Party is pretty close. For my personal tastes, the band peaked creatively with ATS and then slipped downhill with Living Things (a portion of which was composed of shortened ATS demos), further downhill with The Hunting Party, and even further downhill with One More Light. I personally enjoy Post Traumatic much more than those three albums.

It's odd to me that after such a lengthy down time (canceled 2015 USA tour), all of 2016 off, etc, they came out with only ten songs. Mike wanted Place to Start to open it and we know they have other songs completed.... I'm just surprised the album was so short. Chester has two writing credits on the entire album - we are talking about the guy who is behind the Waiting For The End chorus (maybe the best in their catalogue?) and other highlights... I mean that just doesn't even make sense to me.

Tracks like Halfway Right and Battle Symphony are some of the worst in the catalogue to me, alongside tracks like Lies Greed Misery, Hit The Floor, etc. Good Goodbye doesn't fit on the album at all as the only song with Mike's rapping, something the album actually lacks but with just GG on it, it feels so out of place. The "live from the genesis" verse is pretty good, and is leagues better than the two guest verses so I am surprised they cut it. I think the guests aren't noteworthy and actually contribute to the songs they are on being worse (Pusha, Stormzy, and Kiiara).

Highlights: I do think Nobody Can Save Me is a fantastic track (loved seeing Mike play it on the Post Traumatic Tour), I love Talking to Myself as well (but it is better live), Sorry For Now is A+, and One More Light and Sharp Edges are great. So that's half the album, ha. You can't deny that the song OML is one of the best songs they have ever written. However, the weaker part of the album just drags it down so much and combined with how short it is, I just don't ever listen to it. Meanwhile, A Thousand Suns for me has had tremendous replay value in the past few years and I jam that album frequently. While the initial response to ATS was a huge backlash, the album aged extremely well and I think that OML is not going to age even half as well in seven more years.

OML was an experiment with them to learn from other songwriters and I fully understand that (and even support it) but I know these guys can write better music solely on their own.

With all that said, I thought the touring cycle was actually off to the best start since MTM. The small Chester and Mike shows were really cool and the band was in epic form on stage in South America and Europe. The European shows were next level for LP, playing the longest shows in the history of the band, changing the setlists to take some fan requests (APFMH, FTI, POA, SIB, etc), and I thought the set was structured well. While I think the album was not great, the touring cycle was a monster. While covering the tour and watching it show by show on YouTube I was shocked how many shows they would "hit a home run" in a row. Check out Rock Werchter into the next show in Sweden... some truly good LP stuff there.

If you want to look at something positive that came from OML, it's that Mike can take some of these songs and sing them on future LP tours. Nobody Can Save Me, Battle Symphony, Invisible, Sorry For Now, Good Goodbye (some sort of mashup), and One More Light at the very minimum are able to be used for their new shows and I think that's very helpful.

    200% this.

Aside of that, if this album didn't had the poppy sound many would've praised it very hard, kinda how I see Mike's Twitch chat at times people asking for guitars because as everyone knows, only 'real' instruments work for music.

I have what must be an unpopular opinion of NMS since I haven't really seen anyone say it: I like the song but the intro is so long... The extended intro live made it feel even more interminable. The song itself and Chester's suitably angry delivery is awesome though.

It's a better heavy song overall than some from THP, IMHO.

Great album. LP surely doesn't have over 5 albums or so left in them, right? They need to work with these different producers. Brian Eno and Steve Lillywhite would be pretty good ones.

Atticus probably would have synths rolling everywhere on ATS, like "fine" but full band LP form, ha. He makes good music with Trent. It's hard to imagine ATS in any other form, but Blackout would have probably brought down buildings if Atticus was involved ha.

Fascinating and unexpected answer by him. I'm a massive NIN fan, love Trent's music pre and post-Atticus, that could've been a crazy combination. The thought of comparing The Fragile and ATS is definitely inside of me.

    Thanks! ;)

You're more than that, you're cool as hell and one of the wisest/respectful fans I've known so far. I meant 'good human being' to Sean in the worst sarcastically way possible :D

Another shit song. LP with Aoki sucked, Aoki with Mike will suck too. They should release "Thoughts That Take Away My Pride" and not those shits.

I want the cool badass Nü Metal studio version of Heavy released. That would be better than everything they've been doing since Jay-Z made them lose their passion by doing cringeworthy mash-ups.

"This is shit" "This is total trash" - neither add anything to discussion. Nowhere did I say you aren't allowed to do that, but maybe add value or even just substance. Your opinions on anything content-wise could be replaced with a bot coded to switch between canned responses.

^^^^you can criticize something, but at least provide substance to back it up.

i.e. ATS as a whole front to back album is fantastic, but the fact it was toted as being 15 new tracks but only 9 actual songs and an instrumental with 5 interludes that seem thrown in is kinda bullshit. The non singles on MTM did not age well to me, I think it's due to how stripped down everything was that makes them sound unfinished/unpolished.

    vs

ATS is trash, MTM is shit

The argument of the 'filler' in ATS is as old as the album itself though lol, and MTM not aging well is totally subjective.

Just because you give a more cohesive response doesn't mean it should be automatically respected or accepted.

it's crazy to think some holy grails of vintage LP stuff is probably lost in a bin in someone's attic right now

It was a bit hard already to get some decent fan stuff in the early 00s, imagine in the late 90s.

Suddenly when you hate on anything  you become Garret 🤣

I agree do they think anyone is Here for the sticker or a keychain? The delusion.

This has been explained endless of times but, if you didn't notice, he sometimes starts ranting and then he gets really mad out of nowhere changing his opinion for no reason. Okay? All clear, let's stick with the main topic.

    Horrible recycled design

They should shut down the LPU, the whole site is a disgrace, it's like a zombie

    No heart no soul

They release shitty bundles because they have to

    LPU is dead

    Is this Garret speaking?

Bromas a parte, after all of these years I still think the prices are very high.

This sounds like the guy I was arguing with on Reddit about Meteora and Warner.

The misconceptions you have of the label with MTM seem so weird to me and are based on nothing factual, at least that I can tell. LP completely changed their sound with MTM and went #1 globally with the album and one of their biggest songs ever, What I've Done. By all means it was a smash hit. Sure, the label likely told them they need a big single to push the album but they certainly didn't tell them to change the style or sound of the album ... just listen to the final result. MTM for what it's worth is a fantastic album.

"i just think they hated Warner since the beggining, and sometimes, in some albums, you can see that clearly" I also disagree with this strongly. Warner has given them *100%* artistic freedom since at least ATS from what I can tell as a fan. And I only say that because of my MTM comment above. LP is who picked Catalyst and Guilty All the Same as lead singles when it was very obvious those songs weren't going to do anything on radio when you had tracks like Waiting for The End and Final Masquerade. They seem like quite a supportive label to me, they work with the fans a lot and go to bat for LP when it matters.

Also, whoever said "the more underground they go on the next record, the better" - that is not true in my opinion. I think LP needs a very, very quality product with some mainstream appeal to it to keep things rolling for them as a band. They can't have a complete commercial flop on this next album or it is going to affect a wide range of things with them - concert attendance, sponsorships, corporate deals, etc. We all need to be cheering for them to deliver an A+ product with a few big singles.

They should be fine money wise, because the whole sponsorhips thing scares me a bit, especially when it reminds me of Mercedes (still weird to me to this day even though yes they constantly support them, more after Chester's passing). They should be able to make and release whatever they want whenever they want, without corporate figures looking at them, Don Gilmore style when Meteora was scrapped and rewritten again. Machine Shop is always a choice, in the meantime, it seems like they aren't going anywhere from Warner.

I read both the initial post and now the edited one. The current text is better organised and clearer so it's good that you changed some things. Even though I don't agree with some of your points, it was a very good read. You're often mean to other people but you definitely care about the band and I'm glad that there is someone who goes deeper into some things connected with them so I can get to know more stuff.

I like that you always mention very obscure facts like Chester telling Jim Digby to fuck off backstage after one of the London's show in 2017. I didn't know that and one or two other things so it was definitely worth reading. Do you have anything more like this? I don't want to go into Chester's personal life too much, obviously but I'm a big fan of him and the band so I'd like to know as much as I can and I see that Garret knows a lot so maybe there are more interesting facts that I still don't know. Maybe you should do a seperate thread with things like this. Not only connected with personal lives of the band members but just with some obscure facts that you've got to know over the years. I'm sure many people would read that. You wouldn't have to add everything at once but just some and then different stuff after some days again.

He constantly changes his mind and then he justifies his actions with "I have mental issues". I told him over and over again that having issues doesn't give you a free pass to act like a dick.

I've been here for over 8 years and I've never met anyone as cynical as this dude. Not gonna bother to read the whole bible here because it's pointless.
