I saw the One Step Closer video on TV once in 2001 and said, "Who are these guys jumping around and screaming like idiots?". Pretty much dismissed it and then I heard Numb and In The End a couple years later and the rest is history.

When he says they have 40 songs, that doesn't mean all of them are 100% complete. They could be just rough ideas, instrumentals, lyrics only or half finished songs that they know will be something good in its completed state.

Best song on the album and I said it would (IMO) since I heard it on those MySpace videos. Glad it didn't disappoint in the end. Absolutely amazing song. Acoustic version is good, but the studio version hits a home run for me. The chorus riff really hits hard. It gives me goosebumps.

It was just one of those things where I thought, "Hey, I've heard this from somewhere before", then I read everyone talking about a new instrumental and it was like, "Ooo I know the answer!" I just signed up to say that I believe this instrumental is actually a piece of Mike's work when he scored the MTV Music Awards a few years ago. I recognised the beat straight away and used to have an .mp3 with the tune in it which I don't have anymore. You'll have to take my word for it, but I'm pretty positive about it.
