Yeah, those are epic. I’m also even excited for the OML songs. Especially Heavy. I’ve always wanted an official release of Heavy with just Chester, like the original version of the song had. Just don’t like Kiiara. I think it’s Chester’s song. So I’m assuming this Heavy will be just Chester, which I’m pumped for. Also Sharp Edges and NCSM, TTM, all of that. It’s cool.
-
Hell yeah, will buy.
-
Looks like the OML live release will be different as a separate release. So its still up in the air if we will get a LPU this year. I still think they should do it. Maybe part of it is just me not wanting to let go of the past. I used to get so excited for LPU albums every year and would usually enjoy a lot of it.
-
I'd love to hear a demo version of Numb or Shadow Of The Day. Imagine getting something epic like the version of Shadow Of The Day with the electric banjo. Chester's version of NRL...
-
If they really don’t want to do a LPU or feel forced... maybe they just shouldn’t do it anymore like some have said. Fuck it.
-
Yeah....definitely. When I think of ‘’mature’’ lyrics, I think of something like ATS, Rebellion, HHH, TLTGYA, ALITS, etc. There were a lot of corny and cliche lines all over OML. OML was ‘’personal’’ to the band but they’ve said heaps of songs on past albums were personal as well. Some of OML had mature moments, but I just find the lyrics of ATS, THP and some of MTM to be way more mature. But also the sound as well, like I’ve mentioned.
-
I know but it's still all speculation at this point. We might not even get LPU 17, who knows. If they do demos like usual, I think there will at least be some OML demos on there in honor of Chester, maybe even a literal demo of OML. Maybe a demo of NCSM. I'd like those. I mean, They could do a 6 track CD with the OML live versions. Put like 01. Nobody Can Save Me (Live) 02. Talking To Myself (Live) 03. Battle Symphony (Live) 04. Heavy (Live) 05. One More Light (Live) 06. Sharp Edges (Live) They never played the whole album live and I can't see them releasing a 8 track CD, so I figure Good Goodbye and/or Invisible will be omitted. All of those feature only Chester so that might be cool, and we know the lyrics meant something to him.
-
Damn, that's probably sick as hell!!! So many good shit with Chester out there, even if they are from the newer albums. Original version of Powerless? Damn. So many.
-
Damn really? I didn't know that was how everything Chester recorded that is unreleased will be. Maybe it's true. I don't think she'd care though. I don't see why she would. I'll be playing Chester music for the rest of my life, probably every single day. He was my favorite musician of all time. So I'm super interested in hearing anything he was involved with from all bands. Maybe they won't release anything ever again that featured Chester, who knows. It's all pure speculation from everyone as of right now anyways about LPU17. Whatever they want to do, It's fine, obviously. I'm just saying what I would like, etc. That's the purpose of these wishlists.
-
Isn't Chester stuff with Linkin Park under Warner, etc. though? I think the recordings they would have made under Warner would be Warner's property, not Talinda's.
-
Damn, nice list. A lot of sick stuff there.
-
If anyone bothered to read my posts, I was also talking about SOUND. Not only lyrics. Maybe nobody here paid attention to the lyrics of THP, though. Which is why I went in depth about them. A song like Rebellion or A Line In The Sand are just as mature as anything on OML is. Also, a lot of topics discussed on OML have been basically talked about in many past songs as well, just to a different degree. A song like Halfway Right for example, you say mentions Chester's substance abuse. Well so didn't Breaking The Habit, Given Up, etc. and Chester flat out said both of those did in past interviews. This band has a shit ton of albums and a lot of lyrics, but THP is just as mature as OML is, if not more. I was talking more about the sound. Listen to OML in it's entirety as an instrumental album, and listen to THP entirely as an instrumental album. You'll see that a good majority of the OML songs appeal to a mainstream, to anybody, they fit right in with the likes of music on Disney, any mainstream radio station in America, etc. Can you say the same about THP? No. Can you say the same about ATS? No. What about LT, some of the songs, yes, but not the whole thing. MTM, some of the songs, but not all. Music is just as important as lyrics are. I actually enjoy listening to instrumental music a lot. But I still think OML was a bit more kid friendly, I don't see how that's even really an argument. It is. It's not even my least favorite LP album. I just think THP was pretty mature and the main point here was that they went for a release that was the opposite of what they wanted to do just a few years ago, and I asked why. Halfway Right also could appeal to a 5 year old, it's catchy and has a lot of nanananana parts as well. Plenty of songs by big mainstream artists also talk about dark things sometimes too, do you listen to the mainstream American radio???? The MUSIC is what is appealing, fuck lyrics. I could list off a shit ton of songs that were popular on mainstream friendly radio over the past like 5 years that have dark lyrics. Pop is about catching the listener's ear with something catchy; that's the entire purpose of the genre, look it up. Am I the only one on this site who loves hard rock and metal and punk and hardcore? Maybe thats why I loved DBS, BOW, STP, KOC more than the LP albums after MTM.

Does look fake but I kind of like the cover. LOL. A LPU17 dedicated to Chester would be badass, though. Give us like 10 or 12 demos of Chester stuff. A LPU17 shirt with Chester, a pin, etc. whatever. It would be cool.

Yeah but the LPU isn't only just about the live stuff. There is an entire package that comes with a membership each year and a lot of exclusive online content and music (well, as exclusive as it can be, but people upload it everywhere). I joined LPU for the first time in like December of 2003, right around when LPU3 dropped, and I would say up until like LPU9, the merch package was my favorite part of it. Then the music. I've been front row for a lot of shows but it really doesn't matter to me. I have also had far back seats and lawn a few times at shows and have enjoyed them just as much. So the whole early entry thing and shit didn't really matter to me, because a show is fun no matter what. I know some people love that but it isn't the ONLY thing about LPU. I would renew this year if they had just a package and music. -
Wow yeah, I bet it was really epic. I saw DBS twice in 2009 (NYC and Ulalume) but they didn't compare at all to how epic the Tempe 2008 show was. You essentially got to hear the ''original'' versions of Walking In Circles and My Suffering in a live setting, before they were changed for the album, since Chester started work on it with Benson in fall of 2008, after PR08. I've never heard of anyone who went to that show, the only thing I've ever seen is that low quality rip of the songs on YouTube. So that's really epic. That was a really special show to have attended. Forever jealous.

I said I actually liked NCSM, I like the lyrics in that song a lot. But War is still mature lyrically. Just because it's basically a punk rock song doesn't make the lyrics automatically shitty. War is a serious topic, and the lyrics are pretty dark, especially in the verses. I just think THP is also criminally underrated by many. It's largely overlooked by mostly everyone who aren't hardcore fans, and even the hardcore fans forget about it. I was guilty of that but like I said, I've come to think that THP is actually pretty great. A song like ALITS, that just simply would not appeal to a kid friendly mainstream audience, sorry. Neither would a song like Rebellion, Mark The Graves, Guilty All The Same, etc. It also goes beyond just lyrics. THP had a mature SOUND in terms of music. Just because it was rock and metal doesn't mean it wasn't complex. It wasn't just power chords and what not. It had a lot of good guitar playing and drumming. Rob was amazing on THP and Brad really stepped it up a lot. Mike was great. Look at the music on the album, listen to THP instrumentally. Didn't Mike say that he told Brad he had to step it up for the album? And also, didn't Rob have issues with recording some of the music because it was so hard? OML musically appeals to a mainstream, like anybody. That's the point I'm making. And lastly, Dmitry, I wasn't saying HT was even more mature than OML in the first place. I was saying THP vs OML. The last two albums. My point was the attitude of the band during THP and then straight into OML. So compare THP.

There have been years where LP barely toured at all. Like Astat mentioned, the entire year of LPU15. And some years before that had very minimal touring... look at 2005 and 2006, for example. 2009 and 2013 didn't have worldwide tours, either. I don't think this is true at all, though. LPU wasn't only for the tour stuff like that. Many people don't even go to shows, not everybody is like all hardcore fans who go to every tour. People still enjoy the package, and not just the CD, the shirt, the items that come with it, etc. And I haven't used the LPU message board since like 2008 but I know it exists and people still use it. Also, exclusive LPU videos, etc. I think that we will get something from the band by November 2018, when LPU18 would drop. I think the LPU is cool in the fact that it brings together fans, I can see them continuing it. All they have to do is pick like 10 or 12 demos from the vault which takes like a day, and all the merch is probably pitched to the band and they OK it if they like it. I think they'll do it. It would be cool if they dedicated LPU17 package to Chester, had it centered around him or something, who knows? I don't think we should rule it out that LPU17 won't come eventually. -
Wow, you have seen some epic shows! Meteora Tour 04 and DBS debut show, I bet My Suffering sounded badass in person. I wish we had HQ version of it, being drastically different than the final version.

Some good points being made. I wasn't trying to troll with this thread, honestly. Maybe a little but my message, I wasn't. It really seemed like the band didn't want to make music like OML, and Mike was so adamant about it. I don't even hate OML, I like NCSM and Sharp Edges a lot. The rest is kind of meh, but those two songs have stood the test of time with me. I still like those. I know LP liked to change their sound with each album starting with MTM. But it just seemed like with THP they were really bold and trying to make a point. Before that, something like ATS, that was super different than nu-metal LP, but it wasn't commercially friendly. Do you get what I mean? OML was commercially friendly. Maybe they were trying to reach everybody with the album. I just didn't understand because that didn't seem like the message they wanted to put out with the last album. I used to think THP was mediocre but I've come to appreciate it a lot. It actually was balsy of the band to put it out and it's actually pretty complex. I've been listening to the main seven albums since Chester died and I think THP is actually kind of special in that regard. It seems more ''mature'' to me even though it has a heavy rock sound. ATS and THP were probably the most mature albums. And lastly, I know OML had ''mature'' lyrics on some songs. But so didn't THP. GATS, War, Rebellion, ALITS, all politically charged, or at least can be taken that way, and GATS talking about the music industry and shit. I love GATS man and I used to not like it as much. Now I love that song. FM is actually pretty deep of a song, if you break it down. MTG as well. Yeah, KTTK and AFN, maybe Wastelands, I can see why people don't consider those mature lyrically. But still they aren't bad lyrically. If you take away the sound from your mind and just strictly look at the lyrics of each album, THP is pretty mature lyrically, meaning it wouldn't resonate with a younger crowd, at least IMO. MTM and ATS are pretty dark in that regards. HT a little bit as well. Meteora is way more angsty than HT, IMO, except for maybe BTH. LT was half and half for me, it had a lot of lyrics that were kind of weird, but some of the songs had good lyrics. OML had lyrics that were somewhat dark or mature, but it was different for me. I'd say THP and ATS had the most mature lyrics.

Now that Chester is gone, it's essentially the end of an era for Linkin Park. If they do continue on in the future, it will certainly be a different era without Chester. So my question is, what are your top 5 favorite shows that the band played from Phoenix 2000 to Birmingham 2017? (Phoenix 2000 being the first known live recording we have and Birmingham 2017 being the last show ever with Chester). I'd say these: 01. Auburn 2007 This is probably my favorite show of all time. Something about it... I love the energy that the band has, I love the mixing of the DSP here, etc. Chester is on fire throughout the show and has a ton of epic banter throughout as well. Not to mention, it's also the first show of PR07, my favorite tour of all time. I can remember when we first got this DSP, being the first ever DSP. It has stuck with me all these years and I'd have to say it's my favorite show of all time. 02. Mountain View 2004 What's not to love here? PR04 was epic, we all know that. Once again, Chester was on fire here. His screaming has never sounded as good as it does during this show, IMO. Yes, we don't get Bert on Faint here, or Jonathan Davis on OSC here, but I still love the show the most out of all the PR04 shows we have. Once again, epic banter throughout the show from Chester. A.06 being played but aborted was also epic. I love the little performance of SCOM, how epic Wish was, etc. Truly one of the greatest shows to me. 03. Live In Texas 2003 Gonna go with the band's first official live album here. I got into the band in 2003 and I remember buying it when it first came out in late 2003. I loved it. Loved the CD, played it all the time, but the DVD was even better. I can't tell you how many times I watched it. It was obviously mixed and mastered in a way to make the band sound insanely good live, but they are good live. Haha. But even still, I love it. It's probably the best sounding live show we have, IMO. Full of HT and Meteora songs, it's a nice set. APFMH, OSC, what an ending here. Faint is also epic. Papercut, Points, LFY, so many epic performances. Figure.09, With You, I love it all. And we can't forget about P5hng Me A*Wy here, easily the best quality performance we will ever get of that epic song. I know a lot of people don't like LIT, but I had to include it, because it's one of my favorites. 04. Osaka 2006 Summer Sonic 2006... Japan 2006, what an epic tour. I think any fan would agree that it was one of the band's best tours with Chester. I chose Osaka here because I like that recording the best out of the 3 recordings we have from the tour. The small cut parts in the Tokyo recording, plus that one guy screaming during some songs made me love the Osaka recording the most. I must have listened to this song 1000's of times over the years. Qwerty (the epic 06 version), RME, damn. Truly an epic set. A+ performance from Chester and everyone in the band too. Chester possibly sounded the best at this tour out of his whole career with the band. I said his screaming was the best ever at Mountain View 2004, but his voice overall, singing and screaming, was great on this tour. I think that the band really had a lot of fun on this tour too, you can tell from the LPTV episode, and these recordings. It was also during a time where the band was really experimenting for the first time, making MTM throughout 2006. Overall, I think this show captured a great time in the band's history. 05. Manchester, NH 2008 I had to include this show because it was my favorite show that I attended out of all the shows I have ever attended. I didn't expect it to be, but after the show was done and I was heading home, I knew it was something special. Something about the performance here spoke to me. I was front row, right on the bar, with my best friend and my at the time girlfriend (my first love). The energy of the band was amazing, and I loved the stage layout on this tour. Chester came out with this badass looking hoodie and just blew the place apart. Epic set, too. APFMH, My December, Valentine's Day, HHH, I got to see a lot of songs that I wanted to see. It was just a really good sounding show to me and being the MTM tour and all, I loved it even more, since I'm obsessed with MTM. Overall, it's a show that I will never forget for the rest of my life and I'm glad there is a DSP of the special night. ***Honorable Mention*** Orlando 2000 Once I got into the band in 2003 and bought Meteora and then later Live In Texas in late 2003, I started going online and looking up Linkin Park message boards, etc. By 2004, I had found LPA, as well as other sites. I still was kind of a n00b at this time, so I didn't know much of anything about the band other than basic stuff. However, I came across a download of ''Live In Orlando 2000''. I had no clue what it was, but I downloaded it, and it was the recording of the Orlando 2000 show. It was the second live show I've ever heard from the band (first was LIT) but I loved it. I don't think it's a great performance, this was the band at their most raw and basic form, so I didn't include it in my top 5, but I do love the show and it holds a special place in my heart. It was still a solid performance, a lot of cool songs like And One, basically the best songs off of HT too.

That is true, actually. I still think we will get LPU 17. I think it will have some good tracks too. -
How so? Not to me. HT is one of the best albums of all time in the history of all music. It had mature lyrics, stuff about emotional problems, and even the reason of life on ITE. Crawling, Papercut, PMA, and so many more, how can they relate to a kid? Look at the lyrics on OML, those are for kids.
-
THP had mature lyrics and a mature sound. OML didn't really, at least to me. I just don't understand how they could go from THP to OML. ATS was different but it was still mature, etc. ATS and OML are different in sound, though. But after THP, I just don't understand. Was OML the ''pop'' album that they were originally going to make after LT before they reverted to THP?
-
My point is, how do they go from THP to Heavy and OML the album? The entire point of THP was to not make music like it!!!

My dream show would be a 25 song set by Linkin Park with Chester, with only Linkin Park songs, no Fort Minor shit at all in the show, not even verses. Nothing but straight up Linkin Park music.
