“There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part; you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all” -Mario Savio

To save face / how low can you go

Talk a lot of game but yet you don’t know

Static on the way / make us all say whoa

The people up top push the people down low

Get down

And obey every word

Steady getting mine if you haven’t yet heard

Wanna take what I got / don’t be absurd

Don’t fight the power / nobody gets hurt

If you haven’t heard yet then I’m letting you know

There ain’t shit we don’t run when the guns unload

And no one make a move unless my people say so

Got everything outta control

Now everybody go

Steel unload / final blow

We the animals take control

Hear us now / clear and true

Wretches and kings we come for you

So keep pace / how slow can you go

Talk a lot of shit and yet you don’t know

Fire on the way / make you all say whoa

The people up top and the people down low

Get down

And I’m running it like that

The front of the attack is exactly where I’m at

Somewhere in between the kick and the hi hat

The pen and the contract

The pitch and the contact

So get with the combat / I’m letting ‘em know

There ain’t shit you can say to make me back down no

So / push the button let the whole thing blow

Spinning everything outta control

Now everybody go

Steel unload / final blow

We the animals take control

Hear us now / clear and true

Wretches and kings we come for you

Steel unload / fire blow

Filthy animals / beat them low

Skin and bone / black and blue

No more this sun shall beat onto you

From the front to the back and the side to side

If you fear what I feel put ‘em up real high

After I watched the MOATS DVD, I had them same thought as many other people, Wretches & Kings is about WBR and how they control LP and about how LP wants out of it. I have decided to do an analysis of the lyrics to better describe what I think LP is saying.

WBR = Warner Brother Records

LP = Linkin Park

"To save face / how low can you go / Talk a lot of game but yet you don’t know"

To stay popular and rich, WBR will do anything. They talk like they know music, but they don't.

"Static on the way / make us all say whoa / The people up top push the people down low

Get down / And obey every word"

LP's new music makes WBR say "whoa", but they still push for LP to make music the old way.

"Steady getting mine if you haven’t yet heard / Wanna take what I got / don’t be absurd

Don’t fight the power / nobody gets hurt"

LP is gonna get what they want. But WBR wants to take the music and make it into what they want to hear. And if LP does what they say, then they won't be released from WBR.

"If you haven’t heard yet then I’m letting you know

There ain’t shit we don’t run when the guns unload"

Guns = LP's music. Every time LP releases new music, it goes #1. They run the entire show.

"And no one make a move unless my people say so

Got everything outta control / Now everybody go"

LP is telling WBR that they aren't releasing the album or making any music unless they say so. This makes WBR out of control.

"Steel unload / final blow / We the animals take control

Hear us now / clear and true / Wretches and kings we come for you"

The chorus means that this is the last time for WBR. Steel unload = Music release. The animals = LP. Wretches and Kings = WBR.

"So keep pace / how slow can you go / Talk a lot of shit and yet you don’t know

Fire on the way / make you all say whoa"

Pretty much the same as the 1st verse, but a little different. LP is bringing the heat now. WBR can't keep their promises (Talk a lot of shit).

"The people up top and the people down low / Get down"

Even though WBR wanted to change the music, everyone still enjoys the music.

"And I’m running it like that / The front of the attack is exactly where I’m at

Somewhere in between the kick and the hi hat

The pen and the contract / The pitch and the contact"

Mike is fronting the attack against WBR.

"So get with the combat / I’m letting ‘em know

There ain’t shit you can say to make me back down no"

There is nothing WBR can do to stop LP.

"So / push the button let the whole thing blow

Spinning everything outta control / Now everybody go"

So go ahead, WBR. Cancel our contract. We'll find someone else.

"Steel unload / final blow / We the animals take control

Hear us now / clear and true / Wretches and kings we come for you

Steel unload / fire blow / Filthy animals / beat them low

Skin and bone / black and blue / No more this sun shall beat onto you"

Same meaning as the 1st chorus, but the line "No more this sun shall beat onto you" is LP saying, "You not gonna get any more of our money, music, or profits.".

"From the front to the back and the side to side

If you fear what I feel put ‘em up real high"

If you believe the same way LP does, then show them your support.

I hope this clears up any confusion for anyone. This is clearly one of the best written songs of LP and it has a very strong message to the record label, "Don't fuck with us!".

Nice.

"And no one make a move unless my people say so

Got everything outta control / Now everybody go"

LP is telling WBR that they aren't releasing the album or making any music unless they say so. This makes WBR out of control.

"Static on the way / make us all say whoa / The people up top push the people down low

Get down / And obey every word"

LP's new music makes WBR say "whoa", but they still push for LP to make music the old way.

Really good work

I was surprised to see that it was "fear what I feel" and not "feel what I feel". It sounded like that to me, but "feel what i feel" seems to make more sense.

Some songs make you think they're saying one thing while saying another. Like many of Muse's songs are like that, mainly because of frontman Matt Bellamy's english accent you'll hear him say one thing while he say's another, listen to their song 'Fury' for instance and then look at the lyrics :P
