    From an interview with Mike when Meteora came out: "There is one time, we had just played Conan O'Brien, I think close to two years ago, and we were just kind of getting started in our minds. We were at the airport after the show, the next morning, and we're sitting there and I'm like, "Oh my gosh, that's Slick Rick!" He's so obvious--he's got an eyepatch on, gold teeth, a beret, all this jewelry, a fur coat on. He's impossible to miss, a fur coat on. And I was just thinking, "Wow, this is crazy, I'm seeing Slick Rick in the airport." Well, it wasn't as crazy as when he came up to us and said, "Hey, I caught you guys on Conan O'Brien." I'm just like, "Oh my God, that's the greatest thing ever. Slick Rick just came up and talked to us!" Things like that, you never get used to."

    - To get in the spirit of KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, LP played four acoustic songs in a row - the first time they had ever played acoustically. The stage turned before their "acoustic set" began, revealing a specially-designed Christmas-themed set for the band. Rob had Christmas lights on his drumkit, stools across the stage, there was a piano for Mike, the cello was brought out for Phoenix, acoustic guitars donned the stage, etc. Brad told Chester before 'Pushing Me Away' that it was like they were on "VH1 Storytellers". 'My December' featured Brad on acoustic guitar, so we are calling that an acoustic performance of the song. Phoenix stayed on the cello and Brad (Mike too, for the first two) donned an acoustic guitar for 'Pushing Me Away', 'Crawling', and 'In The End'. 'Crawling' featured an acoustic guitar intro by Brad and had Aaron Lewis from Staind on the song. Mike played piano on 'My December' and the second half of 'In The End'. Brad also played the 'A Place For My Head' intro on acoustic before the stage turns back before the song kicks in.

    - After 'Step Up', Chester says it's like the "KROQ Almost Acoustic Hanukkah" since the 9th was the first day of Hanukkah.

    - Right before 'One Step Closer,' the band played a short cover of Outkast's 'So Fresh, So Clean.'

    - The band comes out and talks for a brief second before 'With You'. Chester does not do his usual "c'mon" scream at this show to start the song and instead does a shorter one after it has already started.

    - Since they had a longer set time, the band added 'Pushing Me Away' to the setlist mid-set. They messed up the intro to it but recovered in time for when the song actually kicked in.

    - During the bridge of 'Forgotten', Mike apologizes for the band's flight getting in late so they missed their signing for fans. He said they'd be available to sign just after their performance.

    - The festival consisted of two stages, each inside a separate hangar at the Events Center - Jade Chamber and Crimson Chamber.     australia is dope. we've had agreat time our first day here in sydney. we went shopping, and hope to go do a little sightseeing later. can't wait for the show tomorrow. i heard it sold out pretty quickly, so big thanks to all you guys who are coming. the shows in the 'states in the last few weeks have been fun. we just played with (hed)pe, mudvayne, disturbed, systematic, spineshank, the offspring, and staind (not in that order) at a festival in florida. the show went really well - i think it was a good warmup for ozzfest...

    - This was the band's first show in England. It was at the Kings College Student Union, inside a venue apparently called "Tutu's".

    - Kerrang gave away 200 pairs of tickets to this performance, which was advertised as a "30 minute set w/ a meet and greet". To win the tickets, you had to call Kerrang and answer the question, "In which TV park does Kenny get killed every week?", with the answer being South Park, an American television show.

    - In interviews after the show, the band said they knew when they sucked on stage, and London's performance was one that they definitely did NOT suck at.

    - Due to the band not having any passes, Mike was briefly stopped at the front door a half hour before the show by security and was told he couldn't enter.

    - The day after this performance, the band held an all day "day of press", which included a BBC performance of four songs in London.

    - A 30-second snippet of 'One Step Closer' was released in the 'Crawling' DVD single.

    - Footage from this show was used in the 'Points Of Authority' music video.

    - Ryu and Tak from Styles Of Beyond came out and sang on 'Points Of Authority' from after the second chorus until the end of the song.

    - This is the first known time that Chester used the vocal delay on 'High Voltage' live. It is unclear why he did not continue using it throughout 2001.

    - Chester sang the demo lyrics "Fear is powerful" during the chorus of 'Crawling'.

    - 'In The End' was aborted and restarted. A Yahoo press piece in 2001 explains it: "Five songs into an ecstatic set at the historic Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, Linkin Park launches into "In The End." Something's not quite right. "Stop, stop, stop," vocalist Mike Shinoda orders. The crowd is shocked. "You guys are kicking our ass, and that wasn't right," he admits. "We want to live up to your standards."

     

    The six-member band reloads and then kicks the tune up a notch. A couple weeks later, singer Chester Bennington explains, "We know how well we can play and we know what people hear. We try to match that as much as possible live. I'd say about 90 percent of the time we do; there's about 10 percent of the time that we don't, and we hate that. So it was cool for him to do that."

     

    Apparently, that's not the first time the band has taken that approach. "There was this one time when the crowd started the song and they were so on. We skipped a beat and I stopped it, too. I said, 'This is about as punk-rock as we get, so we're going to start the song over.' We try to maintain a level of quality in our set.""

    - Stephen Richards from Taproot came out and sang on 'A Place For My Head' from the bridge until the end of the song.

    Other Notes:

    - The band stayed after the show and signed autographs for every fan that they could. Security was kicking people out because it was so late and the band kept signing until the last one was made to leave.

    - A digital capture of the Fillmore documentary broadcast by Swedish channel ZTV was released on linkin-inside.

    - Footage from this show was used in the 'Points Of Authority' music video.

    1/30/01: STREET SOLDIERS TOUR BEGINS

    Hey, what's up people! How's the new site! I hope you guys are stoked because we've been working really hard to get this thing up. We always talk about being dedicated to our web presence, so we're "putting our money where our mouth is."

    Right now I'm sitting at the world-famous Filmore in San Francisco as Taproot are soundchecking Weezer's "Say It Ain't So." The club is video-taping the show tonight so I hope we don't suck.

    We've been really busy these first few days of the tour, but the shows have been going off hard. Seattle, Portland, and Sacto were big sweaty pits of energy. Styles of Beyond are unbelievably sweet and Taproot have been ruling it every night.

    We can't wait to see everybody across the great U.S. of A. Thank you tremendously for your support and dedication. Mostly, enjoy the new site.

    1/31/01: LIVE @ THE FILLMORE

    so...we've been all talk for like two months about this site, and it's finally here. i hope you all like the new features. and if you're an artist, don't forget to enter the fan art contest (see the news/home page for details).

    the tour has been phenomenal so far. last night, we played at the fillmore. we didn't know what to think, looking at the crowd, standing on the same stage that jimi hendrix and led zeppelin played on. i hope that all of you that came to the show enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, and hope that those of you who have tickets to the upcoming shows are excited as we are.

    (and when i jump out into that crowd, i hope you guys have my back!!!)
