It was like a year and 4 months after Mike mentioned the name of the song of "Deftest" on that one Twitch stream on October 15, 2020 that we finally got to hear a snippet of "Deftest" from Dave Garrett. In my opinion, it was worth the wait before we finally got to hear a snippet of it because now, we're, eventually, probably, going to get the full song.

So you guys heard the song ? Is it Mike + Mark or just Mike ?
It's both Mike and Mark on the track.

Yeah true that man you never know, maybe it was you? Lol I'm jk or am I? I mean we don't really know the financial situations of each other unless said so, what if it was Percy or whatever that guy name is but hes selling his LP collection which is unlikely so rip maybe time will tell. Imagine buying an Xero Tape for $10,000 but not the Hybrid Theory Lockout thing for the same amount even tho the guy wants more now I think, just a cash grab anyways.
I didn't buy it. I don't have that kind of money for that Xero tape.
10 minutes ago, mrfox said:So auction is over? When we will get Deftest?
1. I'm not entirely sure if the auction is over or not.
2. I'm also not entirely sure when we'll get "Deftest", but let's just hope we actually get the track.

Ahh fair enough. Definitely there's no way $10,000 is a bit much but then again he's probably loaded with money. True that, but I wonder if it was someone from here since it seemed to be bought basically instantly??? I dunno you wouldn't just buy a random tape worth that much without knowing what it is lol
Now that you say that, I wonder who here would have had $10,000 on them to buy the tape. I don't think someone here, naturally anyway (unless they're a millionaire lol), would have $10,000 to buy the tape. But, honestly, who knows.

I doubt this cause I feel like Mike would approve of it due to the cause and donation thing, plus I'm pretty sure the original owner has rips of the tape since they uploaded snippets of the tape on archive.org so that would kinda be redundant.
It was something I was thinking about out loud. But, honestly, now that I think about it, Mike probably wouldn't have bought the tape, I doubt that he would've intervened and bought the tape himself to prevent any Linkin Park fans from hearing the tape at all. It was probably some Linkin Park superfan, as you mentioned, or anyone, honestly.
20 hours ago, Awalkinthelinkinpark said:Damn... you're right. thx for the advice. decided not to share it, the shipping is fucking outrageous here though. almost half the fucking tape and the tax Sheeeshhh. btw what a fucking let down.
What do you mean by this, or are you referring to something else?

Yet according to Geki you guys have had all kinds of unheard music and unreleased pro-shot shows in the LPL vault for years LOL
No but seriously, if someone really spent $10,000 instantly on that tape it's either an LP superfan, who may not be excited to publicly share what they just spent $10k on, or it was a member of the band itself or the label.
I feel like I've become the "Beatles analogy guy" in recent years, but I'm going to do it again now: In 1981, a guy wanted to auction off the only recording of the first ever song recorded by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. When we talk about holy grails, that was definitely one. McCartney personally intervened and bought it for a hugely inflated price and had the audio restored as much as possible, and then had additional copies made. The song was eventually released on the Anthology project. It's not a great song and the audio quality still isn't great, but for historical value it's really cool to hear.
Similar to Pictureboard and Deftest, I would say... Would be cool if it turns out something like that happened.
Maybe Mike bought the tape and will never release it, because of what he said on his October 24th, 2020 Twitch stream when he was questioned about "Deftest".
Quote"LPLive is now trying to get locked on to Deftest as the new Pictureboard. Pictureboard is a pay off. Other demos, not so much. If you were to hear that, you would not be... I strongly suggest you don't start putting your attention on Deftest. That is not a thing to do. Pictureboard, you hear it, "Wow that's cool, I'm so glad we were so focused on that song." No I never said Pictureboard was a bad song. It has Chester on it. Deftest, Mark and I did like a four track cassette version of it and it sounds like shit. You guys don't want that, trust me. It's D-E-F-T-E-S-T by the way, not D-E-A-F, because Mark was a big fan of the Deftones. And we were just testing out ideas. So you can tell just right away, from the name itself, that it is not a grail. This is not an incredible fucking thing. Trust me on this."
But, who knows honestly. The person who bought the tape could've been a Linkin Park superfan, as you mentioned, Mike Shinoda himself, as I mentioned, or anyone, basically. Maybe the current owner of the tape rebought it in the auction to keep it instead of someone else getting it in the auction, though, I doubt that's what happened.

The tracklist issue is a good question.
The samples are legit, so they mixed the tracklisting up either to us or on their own page. However, Deftest just doesn't sound good. No wonder they didn't want it release.
The page to buy it won't accept any current bids, so did someone buy it in person? Do we even know what's going on with this?On the page of where the auction is, before it talks about the story of "Deftest" and the tape, it says that the bidding increment was $50.00 and that the bidding for the tape has ended. Kinda weird if you ask me.

This guy seems like he is genuinely full of bullshit - his story doesn't check out. He has that photo with Mike which is photoshopped and all of his other photos came from Meet & Greets. His timing that he says he worked on stuff with LP doesn't make sense either. I don't think this is authentic.
I'm being kind of wary with what he tells me. I kinda believe him, but at the same time, I kinda don't. The only way I think I'll actually fully believe him is when he releases the old versions with not only him on vocals, but also Chester and Mike on vocals, as well as show some actual proof that he did the songs. He's only told me this stuff, he hasn't shown me snippets of the songs or anything like that yet. I probably won't believe him entirely until he shows me some proof. Heck, he even knows the lyrics to songs and he won't share that info with me until he's done completing his album, which I don't know how much longer it will take for him to do that. Anyways, I'll only believe him fully once he's either shown me snippets of the old versions or released the old versions, which I don't know when that will happen.

The person who has the tape (currently), as well as LPLive themselves, said the tracklist was "Dialate", "Deftest", "Fuse", and "Stick N Move", but on the site where the auction is taking place, they say the tracklist is "Dialate", "Fuse", "Deftest", and "Stick N Move". So, what's the actual tracklisting of the tape?

Here's what I on that studio board from Making of Meteora:
???
???
??? - possibly "Cuidado," but hard to be certain.
Pretty Birdie - written as "Birdie" as opposed to "Birdy" like it appears on LPU 13.
Shifter
Serpent - or possibly Quotient, definitely ends in "-ent." Definitely not "Softcut."
Nocturnal
Session
Resolution - I'm absolutely 100% positive on this. Definitely not "Rewritten."
Faint
Sick
Plaster II - Positive on this one as well. Reusing a working title from an old song as a joke is totally something the band would do too.
Nursery - or possibly Hearsay. Could really be either one, but I'm pretty sure it's one or the other.
Drawing
Figure.09
The 3 top ones are never shown very clearly, and I can't make them out at all. What's interesting though is that there are 15 tracks on the board in total, with 12 of them grouped together. We all know Foreword was a last-minute addition to the album, so it wouldn't have been on that board. It's VERY likely that the 3 at the top had already been eliminated from consideration at that point, and the bottom 12 could be the same 12, minus Foreword, that the final tracklisting consisted of. There are a few potential exceptions though. Numb was written very late in the writing/recording process, so it may not have been on the board yet. Nobody's Listening was finished during the mixing phase of the album, so it may not be on the board, but that seems very unlikely, as Somewhere I Belong was also finished during mixing, and Pretty Birdie is on the board. Advance copies of the Meteora album artwork sent out to the Linkin Park Street Team also omitted Hit the Floor from the tracklisting, so there's a small possibility that it wouldn't be on the board either, although I personally think that was just an artwork error, as that song was recorded at the same time as the rest of the album (a short clip of it being recorded at NRG is present either on the Making of Meteora DVD or one of the LPTV episodes, I can't remember which).
The most significant thing about this discovery is that if those 12 songs are indeed the ones that made the album, that means the long-sought-after Shifter and Nocturnal are actually working titles for songs that made the album! I also find it interesting that NONE of the Meteora-era demos we've gotten on LPU CDs over the past few years are present, even in the top 3 spots (none of the titles really match up visually, even if those top 3 can't exactly be made out). You'd think A.06 would be on there at the very least, considering the short version of it was used in several Meteora promotional videos. That would also mean that there are at least 3 more tracks from Meteora that we don't have at all. One is probably the "thoughts that take away my pride" song, another is probably the song with the piano and guitar that's heard while Rob is tracking drums. The third...who knows!
So if someone ever actually ever bothers to ask Mike about Nocturnal and Shifter (seriously, WHY has this not happened yet in the 10+ years we've known of the existence of these song titles?!?!), he'll probably clear it right up for us. If they're just working titles for songs we already have, he wouldn't have any reason to be secretive about them.
I think you're right with it being Cuidado for the last of the top 3, because I see a "-ado" at the end of the word, so I think you're right with that one.
New Edit: For the first of the top 3, we already now know by now it's “Cumulus”.
New Edit: For the second of the top 3, we already now know by now it's "Interrogation".
I think the third of the bottom 12 is "Serpent", not "Quotient", because I see a "-pent" at the end of the word. I might be wrong, but that's what I see.
New Edit: For the tenth of the bottom 12, we already now know by now it's "Husky".Edit: I'm pretty positive that the third of the bottom 12 is "Serpent", not "Quotient", because there are 7 letters in the title of the song, opposed to the 8 letters in "Quotient".
Here's an updated list of what the songs are (from what Astat got and from what I see) [I'll fix this up every now and then (New Edit: It's all fixed, I think)]:
Cumulus = More The Victim (Definitely not “Resolve” as I originally thought. (We already have a song called "Resolution", lol))
Interrogation = Easier To Run
Cuidado = Lying From You
Pretty Birdie - written as "Birdie" as opposed to "Birdy" like it appears on LPU 13 = Somewhere I Belong
Shifter = From The Inside
Serpent = Unknown (Positive it is "Serpent" because if you look closely at photos of the song board, you can see that there are 7 letters in the song title, opposed to the 8 letters in the word "Quotient". It definitely ends in "-ent.")
Nocturnal = Unknown
Session = working title stuck
Resolution = Unknown (Astat was absolutely 100% positive on this. Definitely not "Rewritten.")
Faint = Working title stuck
Sick = Don't Stay
Plaster II = Figure.09 (Astat was positive on this one as well. Reusing a working title from an old song as a joke is totally something the band would do too.)
Husky = Hit The Floor (It’s not “Nursery” or “Hearsay”, as Astat originally thought.)
Drawing = Breaking The Habit
Figure.09 = Working title stuck
The possibility on what some of these songs (the songs that don't have their working title known yet, or working title stuck) could be "Nobody's Listening" and "Numb", possibly, though I'm not too sure about "Numb", mainly because the song came together quickly and almost effortlessly ("Foreword" isn't included because it was made after the rest of the album was finished).

Also, what about "Thoughts That Take Away My Pride"? Isn't that supposed to be in the 'Meteora' section under the Unreleased section?

I have found something guys. An article from 2005. There is mentioned "Can't Hold Me Down".
This is what I see:
QuoteMike Baczor edits music videos just like he shoots off rapid-fire lyrics in his songs.
“Right there. Cut. Close up,” he spatters. “Solo. Back to here. Crowd shift. Back to here. Girls dancing.”

As much as I appreciate the effort done, I always fear that, unrelated to this thread, exposure of such release plans and ideas might affect these very endeavours negatively and we end up seeing nothing of that.
I kinda shared it without his permission at first, but I just messaged him if I could share the information he gave me and he replied with “Sure”, so, all is good.

Mike Baczor recently told me that he'll probably release the old versions of the songs after his new album is out. He said it depends on what Mike Shinoda wants to do or feels like doing down the line. I'm unsure if Chester's vocals are going to be on the old versions or not, though.

Back in the March of 2005, Linkin Park invited Mike Baczor from D-Nax into their studio to record a song, and after three days of being in a New York City Studio, the song "Can't Hold Me Down" was born. He remained friends and kept in touch with the both of them from 2007 onwards. 9 years later, in 2014, Linkin Park invited him to collaborate with them once again for "The Hunting Party". There, they created 3 to 4 songs at that time and Chester just needed to put his vocals on some of those songs and they had plenty more songs in the works, though, unfortunately, those plans never materialized because of Chester's death. A year and 2 months before Chester’s death, in May 2016, Chester and Mike collaborated and worked with Baczor on a song.
Years later, we have an update on those songs from Mike Bazcor.
- "Can't Hold Me Down" has Mike Baczor and Mike Shinoda doing the instruments and production for the song and both of them, as well as Chester, put their vocals on the track. Mike Baczor did the first verse of the song, Mike Shinoda did the 2nd verse of the song and Chester did the choruses of the song.
- 9 years later, the first song that Mike Bazcor and Linkin Park collaborated on that originally was for 'The Hunting Party' was "The Game Is On", which has Mike Baczor and Mike Shinoda, again, doing the instruments and production for the song, as well as rap verses for the song and Chester sang the choruses for the song. Both Mike Baczor and Mike Shinoda each did half the verses on the track. He also mentions that the other three tracks that he did with them that had titles were "Why", "Truth Hurts", and "Unstoppable". There were also more tracks that they did around the time, but, unfortunately, they didn't have titles for them yet. Baczor and Shinoda worked on so much stuff, had so many ideas and had a total of about 6 songs almost fully done.
- 2 years later, in May 2016, Chester and Mike would again collaborate and work with Baczor on a song called “Love Me Or Hate Me”. For "Why", "Truth Hurts", "Unstoppable", and "Love Me Or Hate Me", they had everything recorded, but they weren't mixed, so they didn't know what parts of the vocals were going where on those songs.
He is currently re-recording the songs all by himself. He still has 6 more songs left to complete. He will be creating a YT music channels soon with all info and constant updates. He will also do live sessions in the studio. He's planning to release the songs on his new upcoming album he's called "The Creation". He also says that there will be 12 or 13 songs on the album. The songs on the album, though, might just have his vocals, if he decides to redo them, though, he said that if him and Mike decide to finish the old versions, then they will release those versions too. He might re-record 3 of the songs on his new album, depending on how he feels they sound when they are mixed. He already has Mike's blessing to release the tracks. He doesn't have to get Talinda's blessing for the re-recorded versions, since it won't have Chester's vocals, because he's not using his vocals, nor the old versions, because they had separate contracts that were all already signed off on, and also him and Mike Shinoda own the tracks. He is planning to release a few singles once he completes the album. He also said that he'll probably release the old versions of tracks once his new album, with the re-recorded versions, is out. It just depends on what Mike Shinoda wants to do or feels like doing down the line.
He’s currently working on 2 songs for his new album that he wrote last year.
Based off this article (https://www.readingeagle.com/2005/12/15/rocking-on-the-brink-of-stardom/), it is mentioned that he played a minor role as a wide reciever in the movie "Invincible", which goes through the story of Vince Papale (played by Mark Whalberg). According to the article, Baczor had the chance to give Whalberg a D-NAX demo, which he would listen to while warming up. According to Mike Bazcor, when I asked him through Instagram, he said "Can't Hold Me Down" was one of the songs on the demo, and the demo he gave Whalberg he believes was just a bunch of songs he had finished at the time. He also said he doesn't' really remember what was on the demo.
He put up an Instagram post earlier this year, saying that the album is going to be released by the end of the year with weekly updates of pics and videos in the studio working on the album. As of this time, no updates have been put up yet. I messaged him through Instagram about when he was gonna start posting the stuff, and he replied back saying that the he'll probably start posting the stuff in the beginning of the new year, as he is still getting everything ready and working in tracks. He has also been filming a lot for video games so that's taking up a lot of his time. He told me that he really thinks I'll love his new material (and probably some people here will love it, perhaps). He said he put A LOT of work into everything.
