hahninator Posted June 7, 2012 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Linkin Park plays their eighth full show of the 2012 Summer European Tour in Nickelsdorf, Austria at the first day of the 2012 NovaRock Festival. This is their third appearance at the festival, the first coming in 2007 (show page here) as the last show on the first European Tour for Minutes To Midnight and the second coming last year as the first show in the summer in Europe (show page here). An interesting note is that this is the only festival the band is playing back-to-back years on this tour. It joins Moscow as the only other European city LP is playing in both the summer of 2011 and summer of 2012. Last year, the band stuck to their usual setlist at the time...a mixture of A Thousand Suns songs and popular singles. This should be a big show and setlist change for fans that are seeing the show this year that also saw it last year! One interesting thing about NovaRock 2007 is that it was almost canceled. The band was supposed to play the Heineken Jammin' Festival in Venice, Italy the day before but it was canceled due to terrible storms (see: tornadoes) and a lot of the band's gear was damaged in the storm. The crew and the people of NovaRock had to piece together working equipment so LP could play. You can see the Projekt Revolution 2004 backdrop instead of the video screen on stage at that show. LP first played Austria on March 9th, 2001 in Vienna on the Deftones' European Tour (show page here). They returned only 6 months later in September (show page here) to headline the same venue - nice! After not playing there for almost seven years, they returned to play Novarock in 2007 (show page here) and then headlined the Statdhalle in Graz back-to-back years in 2008 (show page here) and 2009 (show page here). In 2010 they played Linz (show page here), which coincidentally made the 2009 and 2010 shows both the third show of the tour. This will be their eighth show in Austria and their SIXTH year in a row playing there! Is Germany the only other country they've done that in so far? If the rumors are correct and they do a European Tour in the fall as well, England will join that list too. At the last show in Bucharest (their first show ever in Romania) (show page here), the band had some keyboard problems during the beginning of 'New Divide' so they launched into an impromptu 'A Place For My Head'. Check out the video below. This was the first time both 'A Place For My Head' and 'Blackout', both really big fan favorites, were in the same setlist. Does anyone else hope both of those songs stay in their "Main Headlining Set" next time we see it in what we guess will be St. Petersburg? Also it was the first time 'Crawling' has been dropped in a while. Do you like the band dropping singles for older songs? We can assume the band will return to their festival setlist for this show, the same one Rock In Rio, Pinkpop, and Skive got earlier in the tour that opens with 'A Place For My Head'. Playing before Linkin Park at this festival on the "Blue Stage" are Rise Against, The Offspring, The Baseballs, The Gaslight Anthem, Lagwagon, The Answer, Royal Republic, and Gun. Wow - The Offspring, Rise Against and Linkin Park all back-to-back is pretty badass! After this show LP plays in Warsaw on the 9th and Moscow on the 10th before finishing the tour up with shows in the Ukraine and in St. Petersburg. For the full 2012 tour schedule, click here. One Step Closer The setlist was shortened by 6 songs due to the band's set being pushed back. There were thunderstorms right before the show which caused the venue to be evacuated and then after a short period of time, fans were allowed back in. LP's set had to be abbreviated. Rise Against, who played right before LP, also had to cut songs in their set. Marilyn Manson, who played at the same time Linkin Park played, canceled their performance. I saw Rise Against a month ago and they were great. Awesome performance of APFMH. Hope it stays for the US tour..... it'd be cool to have it with the normal intro in one set and with the long intro to open the show in another set.
