Fort Minor music videos are getting upgrades!

Happy to writing it - they are doing it! The label started to upgrade the Fort Minor's music videos. Currently "Remember The Name" is 4K and "Where'd You Go" is full HD.

EDIT: 12/16 "Believe Me" is now 4K, "Petrified" full HD

The 4k upgrade for RTN was really necessary to see all the cameos in the background. I could tell Chester was the one hugging Mike when he enters the club but it's amazing to see him properly. And I can finally see Brad too.

Where'd you go was upgraded from 720p to 1080p but it's ok because that definition is high enough to enjoy that video.

The previous version of RTN, which was shown on TV and released everywhere on iTunes/Apple Music and other digital platforms and included on Fort Minor Militia DVD was alternate version containing the censored version of the song, and contained additional effects that are not present in that new 4K upgraded!

Is it mean that they treat this new 4K explicit version of the music video as the final version and the previous was some kind of directors cut version?

And Aftermath can't bother to put Lose Yourself in 4K...

Eminem isn't signed to Aftermath records, just Aftermath Entertainment

at 3:15 there's Rob too, besides Chester and Brad.

How come this is the first time I hear there are cameos in the video?!

Edit: oh, wait! Holly Brook/Skylar Grey is there too

I don't know how RTN was shot, but depending on the source they went back to, it's possible that the effects weren't completed on that medium. Definitely an issue with things now getting remastered in 4K that had GCI that was never rendered beyond standard definition.

I was saying on the chat the other day that the version before the upgrade also was not having those effects because the video was cropped. And I thought that video on youtube was edited by a fan who uploaded it and then the label in order to upgrade it had to edit it the same way (just cropped it), because youtube will not accept it. So maybe that was the reason?

You can watch 30 seconds preview of the original version with those effects on iTunes here. and you will see what kind of those effects were.

Thanks for the iTunes link; I see what you mean now. That's funny, because I wouldn't think RTN was shot on actual film (seems unlikely to me for a MV in 2005). But what it looks like is similar to actual film scanning where the what's on iTunes is what would be called Overscan, versus the 4K which would be Framed.

It could be legit. Both still have film grain - particularly things like that white spot that flashes around 12 seconds in.

Both versions have basically full video, but the one that you have seen on iTunes contains additional video, which consist of the main video. Just small part of video from the bottom was added above the main video and, small part of the video from the top was added below the main video. Those are exact same video parts, there is no zoom or anything like that: https://ibb.co/8ns9Zk0C

Also, here's a comparison of the exact same frame, you can see that the shadow of Mike's head in the original is full, while in the 4K version is not because it was cropped: https://ibb.co/fzbdhhHF

Yeah, I follow. That's what overscan vs. frame is.

Oh... now I understand For some reason I was too much thinking about the original version and that those "additional parts" in it are zoomed in and I was trying to prove they are not (wtf). Sorry my bad.

No worries! I feel you. I think we're saying the same thing different ways. I find the technical details and the differences interesting.

Those 2000s CGI effects that were mostly shot on standard TV cameras are the worst at aging. I don't think these were upscaled (hoping so).

One more thing.

The 4K upgrade has more video on the sides; for example, you can see that there is more shadow and the OG version is more cropped on the sides. So, just based on that, can we assume that the video was likely cropped on the top and bottom instead of zooming in?

The screen of the frame original was taken from the DVD rip, but I also compared it and it is exactly the same as a frame of the iTunes video (with just worse quality).
