Lucky, lucky Berlin. Before Linkin Park performs in a jam-packed arena on September 3, Fort Minor scales it back to perform at the Kesselhaus on September 2. This is the second of four European shows Fort Minor will be performing along Linkin Park's The Hunting Party European Tour, which is coming to a close soon. Back in the heyday of The Rising Tied, Fort Minor never had a true European Tour. On its first Promotional Tour (which started just a little over a decade ago!), Fort Minor performed at a handful of dates across Europe (their debut performance was at the Pukkelpop festival, in fact - Linkin Park just headlined it recently!). This included two dates in Germany - the Highfield festival in Hohenfelden and a headlining show in Hamburg. The Highfield performance was only Fort Minor's third ever performance, so they kept it relatively small - playing songs from The Rising Tied like 'Remember The Name' and 'Petrified', 'Dolla' from the We Major mixtape, and even some older Linkin Park tracks: 'It's Goin' Down' and 'Enth E Nd'. When they returned a few months later to Hamburg in November, the show was turned up a notch. By then, more members of the group were added onstage (including backup vocalists and members of Black Violin) and the setlist had been expanded. The Rising Tied classics like 'In Stereo' and 'Believe Me' were added, and even a shortened version of 'Numb/Encore' was brought out to open the encore! 'Petrified' had to be stopped and restarted so that Mike could pump up the crowd. Berlin, are you ready to add to Fort Minor's history? A couple of you may recognize the name of the venue. That's because it's a pretty famous venue in terms of Linkin Park - that's where the first show of the Minutes To Midnight touring cycle took place! The band brought out some surprises, like opening with 'One Step Closer' with a new intro and new tracks like 'No More Sorrow' and 'Given Up'. Due to the band adding a new outro to 'Faint' and promising a fan that he could come up and play guitar on it, Mike flipped things up on the spot - instead of traditionally playing 'Faint', the band performed a quick mashup of the song and 'There They Go' by Fort Minor so that the fan could play with them (since no one had heard the new outro before). We'll talk about Linkin Park's history in Berlin in tomorrow's preshow post- it's Fort Minor time, baby! Since 'Welcome' was released, this will be Fort Minor's third full performance, and things are already changing! For the first time ever, Mike held a poll to see what song fans would like to hear at the show, which contained 'Right Now', 'Red To Black', 'Second To None', 'High Voltage', and 'Step Up'. Quite a fine selection - check out our rundown of the tracks here. It really is a good selection - we wouldn't complain about any of the songs being picked! And by the looks of it, Mike has picked the winner. It's almost cryptic, as Mike included a cheeky 'with a twist' at the end of his caption. Perhaps he picked the Top 2 songs? Maybe he even remixed one, or will even try out a mashup! When he updated us, 'High Voltage' was in a clear lead. Absolutely nothing wrong with that - it was one of the best live songs of 2001! While it seems likely that's the song that was chosen, we'll have to wait and see! Even though the setlist is already being changed, there was hardly any demand for it - it's a pretty awesome set to begin with! Containing fan favorite Fort Minor songs like 'Petrified', 'Where'd You Go', and 'In Stereo', a new, rock version of 'Dolla', rare Linkin Park song 'It's Goin' Down', epic mashups of 'Castle Of Glass' and 'Kenji', 'Waiting For The End' and 'Hands Held High', and 'Believe Me' and 'When They Come For Me', and so much more, it's hard to even pick out the most memorable moment from the shows! Mike remixed several songs (which will exclusively be performed live - if you want to see the remixes, you have to see a show!): 'Cigarettes', the M. Shinoda remix of 'Castle Of Glass' from Recharged (remix-ception!), 'Believe Me', and even 'Introduction', all of which are epic in their new forms. Several songs received their live debuts in the new show, including 'Cigarettes', 'Kenji', the studio version of 'Until It Breaks', 'Introduction', and 'Devil's Drop'. With the inclusion of 'Devil's Drop' in the setlist, it makes it the first (and only) song from the MALL Soundtrack to be performed live. The encore is no laughing matter either - it takes each show out with a bang with 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name' triumphantly closing the set. The set is one of the most interesting we've ever seen, and with the addition of a new song it can only get better! Both Linkin Park and Fort Minor will be performing at the Rock im Sektor festival in Düsseldorf - Mike won't be playing 'Remember The Name' and 'Welcome' twice that night, so he's still working on a replacement for them during LP's set. The Hunting Party Era is coming to a close, with the final leg of the tour wrapping up in Europe. The 7th show of the tour is happening in Jämsä, Finland at Himos Park tonight on August 31, 2015. This will be the first and only Scandinavian show of the entire cycle! While this will be the band's first show in Jämsä, this won't be their first show in Finland! In fact, it's the fourth show in Finland to date: 2008, 2009, and 2011 were when they visited in the past. The first show in 2008 was a massive one, with the band being at their height of the Minutes To Midnight tour. Whipping old classics like 'A Place For My Head' and 'Pushing Me Away', while still finding time for new tracks like 'Wake 2.0' and 'Leave Out All The Rest'. Mike did something very special at the show: in response to fans holding up signs, he rapped the first verse of 'Hands Held High' acapella style for the first time (which seems to have replaced 'In Pieces' in the setlist). This inspired the same idea later on the tour in Milton Keynes, England (the Road To Revolution show), where Mike rapped the verse again acapella style. The band returned in 2009 to play Sonisphere Finland while touring for 'New Divide'. A special moment from this show is 'Numb' - Brad played a guitar intro before the song and Joe played some old gunshot samples. The most recent performance in Finland was in 2011, on the A Thousand Suns Tour. This was the first Projekt Revolution show since 2008, featuring Die Antwoord, Dredg, and Middle Class Rut. The band performed a partial 'A Place For My Head' over the bridge of 'Bleed It Out', too! Hopefully the history continues in Jämsä! The band's most recent show on the tour took place in Moscow, Russia, where the fans didn't disappoint! True to their nature, the Moscow fans took to their flashmob habits and held up signs that said "You", "Are", "Welcome" during 'Welcome'! It was a touching moment, as Mike even had Chester take a picture of him with the signs! A good shot was uploaded to Mike's Instagram, too. Before 'Welcome' even started, after 'Final Masquerade' Mike commented on Moscow being the first crowd to ever have a flashmob during their show (Red Square 2011, where fans held up signs saying "Wisdom", "Justice", and "Love" during 'Wisdom, Justice, and Love'). Other than that, the show went off pretty normally - Chester was on fire! - with a few hiccups here and there (such as Mike messing up during the second verse of 'From The Inside' and Joe messing up the intro to 'Numb' as usual). As for this show, it's safe to say there won't really be any major setlist changes. Rob confirmed that the band had stopped rotating sets for the tour (likely due to production) at the Minsk M&G, but will likely go back to rotating sets on the next touring cycle. Another interesting thing to note from that M&G is that Mike said he won't be playing 'Remember The Name' and 'Welcome' at Rock im Sektor twice (since Linkin Park and Fort Minor are both performing at the show), so he's still working on figuring out what he'll do. Maybe he'll be testing something out for it - between this show and the next LP show (in Berlin, Germany), Fort Minor will be performing a solo show in Berlin, and Mike has set up a poll for which songs the fans want him to perform at the show. The choices are 'Right Now', 'Red To Black', 'Second To None', 'High Voltage', and 'Step Up'. Last time Mike updated us, 'High Voltage' was in the lead - no complaints here, the 'High Voltage' remix was one of the best live songs the band ever played live! We'll find out what song wins when the show happens, but maybe the winner will find it's way to the Linkin Park set in Düsseldorf as a replacement for the other two songs. Who knows? I'm not sure I understand your question. Almost every artist uses backing tracks to either add elements of the studio version that they can't play live because of layering or simply to act as a click track for the band. Look at Robot Boy or CFTI live, for example, since those two will probably be easiest to understand in this scenario. Robot Boy - Mike's playing the intro piano and the synth solo, but the dums are other elements are all played in the background. In CFTI, Joe's doing all the scratching but everything else is played over the PA. The tech's backstage really just make sure the band has the guitars they need to perform the songs they're doing. They bring out the different guitars to the band members and take the unused ones backstage, they tune the guitars, restring them before the shows, etc. Hope that clears stuff up. Nope. I mean they can play heavy without screaming, yeah, but screaming should stay. It's not as if screaming is destroying his voice, he's a professional. Feels like it's bee awhile since I did a preshow post, even though it's only been a few days. Let's get back into it! We're already halfway into the final major leg of The Hunting Party World Tour, with Linkin Park crushing it throughout Europe. The sixth show of the tour is happening in Moscow, Russia, on August 29, 2015 at the Sports Complex Olimpiyskiy. This will be the band's second time playing there this cycle! Linkin Park is no stranger to Moscow. This show will mark the band's fifth performance there! The band's first performance there was in 2007, which was the band's second show in Russia (the first being the day prior in St. Petersburg). The band performed a great show, and Chester even jumped onto the speakers during 'Papercut'! The band returned in 2011 on the A Thousand Suns World Tour, to perform their famous Red Square show for the Transformers 3 Premiere. 'New Divide' opened the show, with a brand new intro promptly dubbed the "Moscow Intro" - it was only played once more before disappearing completely after that! A fun fact about the show is that the DSP for it was released for free, and also contained one of the only instances where 'Wisdom, Justice, and Love' was included on a 2011 DSP (they had to stop including the song on those releases due to copyright issues). The band returned to Moscow in 2012 at the start of the Living Things World Tour, performing at the Maxidrom festival. Two new Living Things songs were performed there: 'Burn It Down' and 'Lies Greed Misery', while a bunch of old favorites had just returned to the setlists, like 'A Place For My Head' and 'With You'. The band's most recent show there happened earlier on The Hunting Party Tour in 2014, the fourth show on the entire cycle. 'Guilty All The Same', 'Wastelands', and 'Until It's Gone' were the three songs performed from the album, but a bunch of different tracks were still fresh off the burner, too, like 'Robot Boy', Joe's solo, and Mike's solo. Speaking of Mike's solo, this was the first show at which he started changing the verses! Instead of the 'Skin To Bone' Remix verse, he rapped the first verse of 'When They Come For Me' for the first time instead. The legacy continues tonight! Linkin Park's Moscow-native fans are known for a certain quality: flashmobs. Every show since 2011 has featured some sort of interesting flashmob organized by the fans there. 2011 was the first major one, where fans held up signs that said "Wisdom", "Justice", and "Love" during - you guessed it - Numb 'Wisdom, Justice, and Love'. 2012's show saw fans take a more humorous route, holding up signs saying "*insert band member name here* is sex" during multiple songs. After 'From The Inside', Mike remarked that, "We're not 100% you know what those words mean." Take notes, other countries. You have to top THAT. 2012 actually had TWO different flashmobs - during 'The Catalyst', or, more specifically, the bridge of 'The Catalyst', fans let go of golden balloons, creating quite a beautiful scene. 2014 was no different, with fans throwing pillows onstage during 'Faint'. Mike even picked up a few and threw them back into the crowd! What does Moscow have in store for the band tonight? The last show of the tour, in Minsk, Belarus (the band's first show there!), had fans in the front row wearing masks during 'Final Masquerade', but that's a much smaller scale as compared to Moscow flashmobs. We'll see what happens! Skip to the end to see Mike react to the "*blank* is sex" flashmob in Moscow 2012! As for the setlist, at this point we can say with certainty that the setlist will remain the same for the rest of the European shows (with one exception). Rob said at the Minsk M&G that that band has stopped rotating setlists, he thinks because of the production. Don't fear - he's pretty certain that they'll return to rotating sets on the next cycle (which is just on the horizon). That brings us to the show that might have an exception to the "same-setlist rule". The band will be performing at the Rock im Sektor festival in September in Dusseldorf, Germany. The thing is, both Fort Minor and Linkin Park will be performing at the event. At the Minsk M&G, Mike said that he won't perform 'Welcome' and 'Remember The Name' twice that night - since it'd make more sense to perform them during the Fort Minor set (we can't give them too much credit on thinking logically just yet, though [i'm kidding, I love you Mike (please don't hurt me)]), Mike's still deciding what they'll do in place of the Fort Minor songs in the Linkin Park set later in the night. Any guesses? Sadly, that won't be happening at this show and we'll probably see the same setlist we've been seeing. Though, if enough fans hold up a sign that says "APFMH IS SEX", who know's what's possible? Get on it, Moscow. Something noteworthy about Moscow is that it will be the only city the band has played in that will have seen every full song from The Hunting Party that was performed live. 'Guilty All The Same', 'Wastelands', and 'Until It's Gone' were all performed in 2014, and the band is likely to perform 'Rebellion', 'Final Masquerade', and 'A Line In The Sand' at this show to make the feat happen. Berlin will come close, being denied the accomplishment because when the band visited there in 2014, they did not perform the full version of 'Until It's Gone', but rather the shortened version. Lucky Moscow! Fort Minor is back on the road, with Mike performing four solo shows throughout Europe. The first of these shows just happened the other night in Denmark. Mike performed the same set as he did in Los Angeles in June in the tiny, apparently sweaty club in Copenhagen. While there were no surprises, the show still went huge (and we haven't had enough FM shows happen yet to get sick of the setlist) and was nothing short of epic. Our staff member Wilderness headed to the show (before Mike so rudely announced a show in his country of England AFTER he'd booked an expensive trip to Copenhagen (mike pls dont hurt me)) and managed to take a great shot of the show from the pit. Check it out! Fort Minor has three shows left on the tour: Berlin, Rock im Sektor, and London. Who's heading to the show? After this, the band has a day off before giving The Hunting Party Tour it's Nordic debut in Finland, then takes a three day break before wrapping the tour up in Germany and Italy. Fort Minor plays the day before Linkin Park does in Berlin. After this tour, the band has a single show left on the cycle: in Tempe, Arizona for the Monster Mash at the beginning of November. There are, however, rumors that the band may be doing a few club shows for the 15 year anniversary of Hybrid Theory... stay tuned for that.
