  5. 2008 - A DEVASTATING YEAR FOR NATURAL DISASTERS January 6, 2009 2008 was one of the most devastating years on record for natural disasters according to a report by one of the world's biggest reinsurance companies, Munich Re. Many tropical cyclones paired with the earthquake in Sichuan were largely to blame for the record number of victims of catastrophes in 2008. Although the earthquake in China is obviously not a result of climate change the report indicates that that climate change is boosting the risks of, and losses from, natural disasters specifically evident in the high number of heavy storms which occurred during the last year. 2008's Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar- estimated to have claimed more than 135,000 lives - is another example of a weather-related natural disaster to hit low-lying, coastal areas stripped their natural protection to stop the storms, in this case mangrove forests. Similar to hurricanes Ike, Gustav and others from this past storm season; high winds, record rainfalls, and strong storm surges caused devastation as they hit coastal areas where the natural form of coastal protection – wetlands on the coast of Louisiana-disappeared in recent years. In these cases there is nothing to prevent storm surge from traveling further inland causing severe damage and loss of life. Read more here. Source: www.musicforrelief.org
  6. HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MUSIC FOR RELIEF December 28, 2008 We would like to thank you for your support in 2008 and wish you a happy and healthy 2009! As we continue our environmental and disaster relief efforts we recognize that Music for Relief could not do it without you! We ask that you help us continue to raise awareness for those struggling to recover from natural disasters as well as the growing need to reduce global warming. In 2009 we will do more for those affected by natural disasters including victims of floods, droughts, and more powerful storms all of which are fueled by global warming. Through your contributions and support we are able to help others when they need it most, thank you. Source: www.musicforrelief.org
  7. So, I fell behind big time on the MFR announcements due to some personal projects and stuff going on since December, BUT, I'm back to that now. Below you can see all the latest going on with MFR dating back to December. IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE RIGHT NOW December 9, 2008 According to the United Nations the impact of climate change could uproot around six million people each year, half of them because of weather disasters like floods and storms. These extreme weather disasters such as more intense storms and more frequent floods and droughts are already occurring and vulnerable people around the world are already suffering the consequences. According to the U.N. refugee agency, in addition to limiting greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change aid agencies and individuals must also boost the relief supplies they keep in stock for emergencies by 10 to 20 times and be better prepared to aid almost three million people a year displaced by sudden disasters. Climate change and natural disasters are interrelated. We must all be aware of fact and be prepared to take action as this crisis is not something coming in the future but it is a problem that is affecting people right now. Read more from the U.N. Climate Talks in Poland HERE Source: www.musicforrelief.org
  8. ^^ No problem! Thanks Adam as always and feel better!
  9. You guys are going to have to calm down ok...seriously...chill out and watch what you say from here on out or we're going to hand out warnings/bans. As for the comment about them announcing all dates at once, as Adam has already pointed out, THE PROMOTERS/ORGANIZERS of concerts, NOT LP, determines when shows are announced, when they will start and so on...so if you're going to get upset, get upset at the right people. Before you are quick to complain, do some research on how these things work...you guys are getting worked up and angry at the wrong people... But anywho, I digress, let's please stick to the original topic...further confirmation on this show from anyone? And thoughts? Let's hear it LPL...
  10. ^^ Makes sense about the promoters, Adam. Thanks for filling us in on that/clearing that up and even more thanks for getting an early go ahead to post it so there could be a presale. We appreciate it!
  11. Ok guys...let's get back to the original topic please...thanks!
  12. It's rumored on a lot of places on the internet as I'm finding, but nothing official by any means. But what's everyone think?
  13. For the last time, stay on topic...next person that gets off topic gets a warning/ban...everyone has the right to express their opinion, so this was uncalled for...bottom line...end of discussion... Now, back to the original topic...I agree with AndOne...if this is true, this could be preface to more shows in the future throughout Europe. I'm interested to see how this one plays out.
  14. Not necessarily...if any of the LP members were in trouble, Warner would absolutely get them through it to where no tour would be canceled. I could see a show or two being dropped, but I could never see them letting a whole tour suffer, especially considering how much money that'd cost them...holy crap...So yeah...
  15. *Note: Let's keep the flooding/spamming in this thread and the rest of the forum down to a minimum please. Thanks and continue on...
  16. Back on the original topic...I think this thing has many hurdles to go through before it happens, but since the stock and shareholders are supposedly meeting tomorrow...it seems like this thing is well on its way to happening...I'm interested to see this develop, though I gotta say a ticket company having a monopoly is definitely a concern for concertgoers.
  17. For the record, he didn't delete your posts, I did. He never has for that matter, I have and they were not deleted, just set invisible. Quit flaming the staff in your posts and they won't be set invisible. Use the site and enjoy it and quit trying to start crap with the staff. Bottom line. Now...back on topic...
  18. Timbaland himself denied it a couple weeks ago in an interview as well. Pretty much stated 'don't believe all the tracklist rumors you see.' Where he's done so much collaborative work recently, he said he hasn't even started working on it yet. So yeah...I'll find the thread that link is in and post it here a bit later. But I digress.... ...Back on topic now please
  19. ^ While I agree with you and the articles definitely correct what I originally said about it being something in the works (thanks for clearing that up), I mean in general. I'm not talking YouTube profits for Warner alone. I'm talking everything. Record sales, concert ticket sales, everything. Warner's profits are down, as are with most other companies in the world due to the economy. So they are looking for ways to make up for it and YouTube was one of them. I was simply disputing the fact that someone made Warner mad or something.
  20. 2009 is not a rumor...that's come straight from various guys in LP that that's the target release date. Also, anytime you look up the new release, it pulls up Warner 2009. So unless something happens to delay it, it will be 2009, no rumor about it...
  21. I'm not so sure...I mean, the record industry is continuing to slip while piracy is growing out of control. I honestly think this has been brewing for a while. I mean, the original article says talks broke down. So apparently this has been coming for a while, just seems to be out of the blue because it was kept a secret. Warner is just going after this because they, their artists and more are losing money. In this kind of economy, they are going to do that in any way possible, YouTube was just the first major way to go about this.
  22. Ok guys...we got the point...PM each other if you want to talk further about it, but let's get back to the initial topic please. Thanks!
  23. Well, honestly...there is no way to know what will happen when that contract ends. When LP signed with Warner, I'd bet money that they went ahead and negotiated what would happen when the contract did end. It works like a prenuptial agreement or will. It's basically the "this is what happens to everything in the event the contract expires, someone leaves the band, dies, etc." This includes: Who will pay/get paid for what? How will band profits/debts (royalties, performance fees, etc.) be distributed? Do some members receive/contribute more than others? Who will keep track of band monies? Will band members receive payment for projects completed and/or be responsible for debts incurred prior to leaving? (Does this change depending on whether the person leaves or is removed?) Does the band have to “buy out” the leaving member? How will the band acquire gear/assets (instruments, PA system, lights, van, merchandise, Web site/domain name, etc.)? Who owns the band name? What happens to the band name if the band breaks up or a band member quits/is fired? Who, if anyone, can still perform using the name? (Everyone must still be involved?) Source: http://www.hg.org/articles/article_1775.html Further, when they decided to stick with Warner back in December 2005, I'm sure that this was re-negotiated again, probably with more favor for LP and including what will happen to Machine Shop, but then again who knows. Honestly, it's just one we will all have to kind of wait and see. Without seeing that contract word for word, we all can make guesses and assumptions, but this is not something that we'll be able to predict.
  24. The 10 albums is after the conflict. The original deal was nine albums. When that conflict arose they were through 5 of 9 albums and they were wanting a release from the other four. When they resolved the conflict then resigned with them, the new contract added one more making the grand total 10. I'll post the links if you want the sources/proof. And as for what happens when (if ever) LP does leave Warner. I wouldn't think they would have to change their name. However, Warner would retain rights of everything Linkin Park has done in some shape, form or fashion on everything released under the Warner name from the day they signed the contract until the day it ends. Until LP does leave Warner, it's hard to know what will happen then and how royalties will be dealt with exactly, but Warner still has claim to everything they released. As Mike has suggested on his blog, read the Donald Passman book. It's invaluable when it comes to how the music industry works on matters such as this.
  25. When they re-negotiated their contract, they had to do 10 total: 1. Hybrid Theory 2. Reanimation 3. Meteora 4. Live In Texas 5. Collision Course 6. Minutes to Midnight 7. Road to Revolution 8. New Album So, technically two more after the new album they are working on. Unless SftU counts as one of these releases. That's where it gets sticky, so I'm not entirely sure. But yes, either one after the new album if SftU counts or two if it doesn't.
