hmmm if that's the case, how does that equate to those world-wide figures being false? it could very well still be correct.

 

not sure how it works everywhere else, but in australia - the gold/platinum certifications aren't actually reflective of the amount sold in-stores - it's simply an indication of how many copies have been shipped to stores.

That's how it is everywhere, but how many copies is shipped is directly reflective of how many albums were sold. They wouldn't need to send more if it wasn't selling.

 

Here's the breakdown of what each certification is in different regions.

 

Edit: and I think the person who stated that thought that in Germany you needed 1,000,000 sales to reach platinum like in the United States.

very true - ive just heard cases in the past of record companies shipping an excessive amount to stores (one way or the other) to make it look like a particular album was a very strong seller - then stores were left with plenty of copies they couldn't then on-sell to the customer.

 

this is clearly not the case with LP - in australia, the album has stuck to no.1 for 4 consecutive weeks - which is at least reflective of the fact that week to week the album is selling well :)
