Linkin Park Recording New Music Already

Following Colin's recent comments in September that Linkin Park has more new songs being produced right now that did not make 'From Zero', it appears the band has been working on them as recently as this week.

In September, Colin said, "There’s also couple of songs that we haven't released yet that are may or may not come out next year, that we're still working on, they are really amazing."

Throughout the promotion of 'From Zero' so far, the band has said that they deliberately whittled the album down to ten full songs even though more were written and recorded, because they wanted it to be concise and to-the-point.

Following a few days of the band posting being in Mike's home studio, Mike's Instagram story makes it look like the band is continuing work on more new songs as he has posted Emily in the vocal booth shortly before the band flew to Europe for their upcoming shows. Let's see what 2025 has to offer!

There'll be new songs for sure next year.

Not sure about a full length in the near future, but I wouldn't exclude it either. The vibe I've gotten from the recent podcast is that they have A LOT of material almost ready, and only cherry-picked a small initial selection off it as a first taste.

I have a strong feeling we aregetting another album in 2026

I think it wouldn't make much commercial sense to release a second album in 2025, since From Zero is gaining a lot of attention from the press and the public. It would be more interesting to continue promoting the album with tours and releasing the singles gradually.

Maybe the songs they are currently working on will be released as individual singles, or perhaps they will be used in connection with another entertainment product, like New Divide was with Transformers.

Guess LP will get in the trend of releasing new stuff each 6 months tops.

Singles, eps, remixes... not necessarily full lenghts.

My thoughts are on this direction. More of an EP than a full length album.

And LP9 on fall 2026

I really don’t like deluxe editions. And LP has never really done them. I like the hand crafted album experience. Mike talked about how hard it was to cut down to the songs that are on From Zero. Seems silly to put everything else back on there after the fact of cutting it down. If you have enough songs for another album just put out another album. Many bands have put out albums a year apart or less. Don’t see why LP can’t do that too.

But who says the songs they cut from From Zero are the ones they are working on right now? What if they finished 15 songs hypothetically, cut 5, and now are taking a batch of *other* songs? We don't know enough about what exactly they are doing to say for sure these are songs they considered for the album.

I think regardless, if it’s reworked cut songs or brand new songs, adding more songs to From Zero for a deluxe edition just seems weird after working hard so cut it down to what it is. And the importance that Mike put upon that shorter run time as a sign of maturity as an artist.  I think some kind of EP, or a full album or something for the LPU is more likely.  Again no one knows anything for sure, but I got the feeling from the Mike and Emily podcast is that they liked a lot of songs that in the process that didn’t make the album. And now maybe they want to do something with that.  Which make sense since they have been kicking around ideas for 7 years. Seems very reasonable they were always going to have at least two albums worth of ideas. I think the question is what they are going to do with it. LP9, stand alone singles, an EP or string the stuff out over LPU CDs for the next few years.  I personally lean toward the album because of the heap of stuff they probably have, plus teasing someone like deluxe edition before from zero is even out yet seems weird.  I think a “guess what From Zero is the first of 2 albums and the next is out next  year” announcement at some point after From Zero drops would make the most sense.  This might just be me trying to manifest my hopes though. Haha

I'd like an EP for 2025. Big fan of bands who release music every year or so by just dropping EP's. Spiritbox and a lot of the newer metalcore bands are great at this. There's never a shortage of music, there's very little (if any at all) filler and they always have fresh material to play on tour. Long album cycles seem to only benefit the biggest bands like LP. I think it would be great for them to try going that route and keep the momentum going for this new era. I am very hungry for new material with Colin and Emily. I want to see how their contributions help shape LP's sound over time.

Yeah I feel like this is more likely. I don't see Mike going crazy with the LP name and releasing EPs every year, I think he still really loves the ideas of albums and for huge artists like LP they can still do it. Plus, I wouldn't really wanna see the LP discography diluted with repetitive tracks that might come if they feel pressured to drop an EP every year. I already kinda feel iffy about HITC offering nothing new to the band, but can accept it because of the "comeback" context and Emily showing off the scream. The set also is really more of a greatest hits set than ever, so I kinda wanna hear new stuff that really contrasts with those formulas in the future.

But if they do 1 or 2 one-off tracks that are guaranteed to be huge because of a movie tie-in, and/or something really unique like ALTNC was because of the collaborative nature of it, I'm all for that. Like a mini reanimation 2.0 that continues weird stuff like the 100 gecs collab would be so up my alley

One thing we all need to keep in mind is Mike's potential to turn on all these songs on a whim lol. We still haven't heard the original THP demos but did hear so many times about how he just trashed everything for THP sound, and I'm sure he's done a few things in the last few years like attempt hyperpop or make more songs that sounded like Happy Endings that he eventually changed his mind on. Who knows what he'll wanna make in 6 months when it actually makes business sense to drop more stuff. Personally I want another ATS weird cycle that just pushes the boundaries of the LP sound further.

Yes, I agree with you. We don’t really know what these recordings are. They could be working on something entirely new or finishing something they started during the production process for From Zero.

I also think Mike isn’t going to keep releasing multiple EPs. He likes to treat each album as something unique, and that’s a concept that’s hard to pull off with only six songs.

At this point, everything is just speculation. We should remember that between A Thousand Suns and One More Light, they were averaging an album release every two years. Could they possibly be starting the production of a new album for 2026?

If we consider that release timeframe and the news that they’ll be on a heavy tour next year, it’s possible that they’re already getting ahead with the production of the new album, which might still be a while before it’s actually released.

The albums between ATS and OML were too rushed, IMO. Living Things and Hunting Party seem pretty rushed and not very cohesive listens compared to every other album in the discography. While I don't like the genre of OML, it's a better start-to-finish listen than the previous two. They took ages to make that album, but a lot of that was Chester going to rehab which severely delayed the timeline. The label also fully trusted LP at that time and allowed them to not have an album deadline - there was no set time they had to turn OML in unlike every other previous LP album in history.

This is likely just for a few extra 2025 tracks. New album 2026-2027?

You're right! Living Things and The Hunting Party have great songs, but they're not as musically cohesive. Those were exactly the two albums from the period when they mentioned they’d like to make more albums.

Despite this possible rush, we still have some really good songs on those albums and even more material recorded by Chester.

Considering all that, I really think they understand that they don’t need to release a new album next year. I hope they let the hype of From Zero settle instead of trying to release another album right afterward.

I agree with you that these recordings are likely for individual songs for the next year, or the start of an album recording process for late 2026 or 2027.
