Jason Lipshutz - author of the upcoming book about LP "It Starts With One", is hosting an AMA

Sup guys!

I think not many fans have heard of this (or they have but just don't don't care maybe lol) but Jason Lipshutz, Executive Director of Music at Billboard and author of the upcoming book about Linkin Park "It Starts With One", is hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on r/LinkinPark on October 1st. The AMA is live now and one could already start asking questions there.

Apparently, his book, which dives deep into the story of Linkin Park, will be released on the same day. It will feature new interviews, exclusive quotes, and insights from the band’s associates and collaborators.

This is very encouraging! Will this book be in electronic form or only in print?

If suddenly someone buys this book, then write your impressions on the forum, suddenly I won't be able to get to it...

Its on Kindle as well. Amazon has a sample of the first part of the book to read for free right now. I really enjoyed what I read and have it on pre-order now.

I just saw some small excerpt from the book (I think?) and it was literally nothing new or unknown. Just info you'd find on the internet/Linkinpedia. Can't say if that goes for the rest of the book, but it lowered my expectations.

My understanding is that it’s going to go through their whole career, I’m not sure how much will be new info. But I feel like the later half is going to be the most interesting as those years just don’t seem talked about as much as the well documented “how the band got together” bits. I found the first chapter to be a good read and well written, even if it didn’t have a ton of new info.

It just rubs me the wrong way to run press headlines like "CHESTER SUFFERED HOUR BY HOUR WITH ADDICTION."

You can't be more sensitive than that? Even 7 years on, that's going to rub a lot of LP fans the wrong way by how you are reporting that. And I know the comment came from Ryan Shuck, but Ryan is one of the classiest people of ANYONE around Chester. Clickbait headlines around this are... meh.

The book likely has some good info for the wiki so we will have to read it. There are interviews with a ton of people close to the band so something or another will be revealed that's interesting enough to archive.

My cynical ass is willing to bet that a lot of the info in the book is going to be nothing you can’t already find on Linkinpedia. Dude should’ve just had you guys as advisors lol.

Shocking lol. Even the band references the site.
Honestly, so much of the bands history would be lost if it wasn't for this site. Nobody else is really out there updating and seeking out answers like the team and community here. It's a special thing to witness.

My first thought is that they want with this book to erase and replace “One Step Closer” by Jeff Blue. But there was nothing wrong with it! If you want a book about the early history of Linkin Park written from the memory of a man who was there, go for that book if you missed it. For me, it read like a novel that could be filmed like Bohemian Rhapsody.
In Lipshutz's case, nothing is likely to surprise you.

I also read One Step Closer, and agree that fans should read it as it's pretty interesting. But it's also worth noting that Jeff very clearly sees himself as a main character and I don't think you can take everything in there at face value (for example, Mike has said for years Jeff was the one pushing for him to stop rapping and just play keyboards, but Jeff very conveniently blames "the higher-ups" in the book). It's also just written terribly, like a high school creative writing project. Jeff is clearly not an author and could have used a ghostwriter imo.

I don't think people on the Linkin Park superfan site are really the target audience for a book like this, guys. Have some perspective. Christ.

Jason Lipshutz is a great writer, he's been at Billboard forever, and clearly this book is a passion project meant for an audience of people who, for instance, only heard She Couldn't when it was released as a single in 2020. Not every biography of a band is going to unearth shit that the freaks in the fandom don't know.
