Skylar Grey's "Numb" (Linkin Park Cover) Coming On May 10th

For those familiar with Fort Minor's 2005 album The Rising Tied, you might know Skylar Grey as Holly Brook, the singer who was signed to Linkin Park's Machine Shop Recordings and recorded vocals for the Fort Minor songs 'Where'd You Go' and 'Be Somebody.'

 

Last year she revisited what she called her first hit by recording a lo-fi version of 'Where'd You Go' in collaboration with lonelyboy for the deluxe edition of his "lofi chill vibes with skylar grey" album. Listen below:

 

 

Now she has started teasing another Linkin Park-related project. This time, it's a cover of 'Numb,' one of the band's most successful singles. The track was recorded in collaboration with producer Tommee Profitt and it's coming on May 10th.

I loved her Holly Brook era. When she switched names and styles to Skylar Gray I didn't really vibe with that.

If you guys are curious i suggest to listen to her self titled project from 2022. It’s just 10 tracks long and it was her first independent release (without Interscope behind). It’s such a good project, gave it a try 😉

Nice arrangement, I've always liked Skylars voice (only really listened to Holly Brook era, nothing else) and it's a pleseant listen.

 

Do you think she's intending on doing a album of orchestral covers? That would be interesting.

 

She will be answering some LP related questions in the future, be interesting to see what she says.

Meanwhile, Grey — who has scored hits as a solo artist, featured performer and as a songwriter for Eminem, Rihanna and Dr. Dre, among others — has a long-standing connection to Linkin Park: she performed the iconic hook to “Where’d You Go,” the 2006 smash from the band’s Mike Shinoda under his Fort Minor project, when Grey was still performing under the name Holly Brook. A deal with Linkin Park’s Machine Shop Records helped start her career as a teen in the mid-2000s, years before Grey was able to pay tribute to the band alongside Profitt.

 

“Multiple people had been telling me, ‘You should work with Tommee Profitt,’ since I really love working in the cinematic music space… and he’s the best in the biz!” says Grey. “So we finally connected over Instagram and made it happen. I’ve had writers block for about a year, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to release a cover of one of my favorite Linkin Park songs. Linkin Park signed me to my very first record deal when I was 18, and I got to tag along on tour with them for a while, so there’s a huge nostalgic connection there.”

I wasn't expecting much from what must be the 100th Numb cover I've heard, but it's actually really nicely put together. Nothing unexpected but a quality cover for sure

I like Tommee Profitt for his other stuff like ITE remix cover or song I'm Not Afraid. Both are awesome, you should definitely check those.
