Matt Sorum: What we do is everybody who comes and plays brings with them some of their best songs, which they’ve written or been in a band with that has written those songs. What people are going to see are a lot of hits.

All great songs from a catalog of all these members from all these groups played by a set of characters. It’s not a cover band because it’s guys from those bands. I don’t consider it a cover band — I consider it a catalog band.
    [...]

I just want people to come out and completely immerse themselves in the fact that it’s going to be hit-driven shows. There is not going to be one song they don’t know. It’s going to be the greatest rock show on Earth!

So I guess, a couple of Linkin Park songs as well.

He also says the band will rehearse for just a couple of days.

  2. So I guess, the three Vegas shows and the rest of the dates are two different entities after all.
Corey just isn't playing the "East Coast tour".

There's currently no poster to list the additional Verona show, just a promo picture:

Notice new songs being listed: "Tush" by ZZ Top, "Slither" by Velvet Revolver, "Sharped Dressed Man" by ZZ Top, "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots, "Dream Police" by Cheap Trick, "You Could Be Mine" by Guns 'N Roses and "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick.

  3. Can anyone help me out with lyrics for "The Endless Highway"?

So much time has been wasted

I don't want to be free
    I'm just a young boy
    Shaking on in this dream

    ????????????????????????????????
    Does anybody here remember?

    ????????????????????????????????

    ????????????? I've been walking
    ????????????????????????????????
I just wound up on this endless highway
Can't get off of this endless highway, YEAH

    ????????????????????????????????
    Does anybody here remember?
    ????????????????????????????????

    Does anybody here
    Does anybody here remember?

So much time has been wasted
    I want to be free
I'm just a young damned boy
    Shaking on in this dream

    ????????????????????????????????
    Does anybody here remember?
    ????????????????????????????????

    Does anybody here
    Does anybody here remember?

    Ah, yeah.

  4. Wikipedia mentions: "The music that would ultimately become the Hybrid Theory album was first produced by Linkin Park in 1999 as a nine-track demo tape. The band sent this tape to various recording companies and played forty-two different showcases for recording industry representatives, including performances for Los Angeles promoter and impresario, Mike Galaxy's showcase at The Gig on melrose".

Another article written by Mike Galaxy himself mentions the band called Doctor Lady (formerly Halogen) opening for Hybrid Theory in The Troubadour:

"11:30pm-Doctor Lady-Los Angeles - Formerly Halogen, Dr. Lady was one of Music Connection's best 100 unsigned bands of 2000. The band has had several gigs recently including opening for Slash at the House of Blues and for Hybrid Theory at the Troub. Jason Pebworth (vocals) was in the Broadway revival of Jesus Christ Superstar and in the touring company for Phantom of the Opera, Johnny Fedevich (drums) has played around LA and was cast as Stillwater's drummer in "Almost Famous" and Johnny Lonely (bass) did turns with Agnes Gooch and Liquid Jesus before joining the band. Guitarists, Chad Rachild and George Astasio, round out the group. Dr. Lady's sound is rock with a melody and a heavy emphasis on song writing and musicianship. Doctor Lady consists of members from all over the country transplanted currently in Los Angeles. Several labels are currently showing interest. Recently had this single Superstalker played on KROQ's Jed the Fish, Catch of the Day".

The band changed it's name around 2001, so they definitely were still called Halogen at that time.

Then I contacted Mike Galaxy for him to confirm these shows, ask him if it's still possible to figure our the exact dates and also ask about his possible involvement with the band through Band Promote (there were hints of Band Promote being involved with the band online):

He said: "I own both Band Promote and Indy Hits and the band did perform for my industry showcase night but that is the extent of my involvement. They were signed after labels saw them at my showcase. I do not manage them and never have. Unfortunately I do not remember the date of their performance. I think it was the first show ever with singer Chester Bennington. Yes at the Gig on Melrose which is closed several years ago.
The Troubadour show was much later. Wish I could help more".

He then also said: "Yeah, sorry I can't help out more. The one thing I do remember is when Brad was working with Jeff, Jeff brought him into the office while I was visiting and told me about his new band at that moment then we played his demo. I believe that was in 99 so I assume their show with me was in 99. I think they changed their name to Linkin Park in 2000".

So, the Band Promote thing denied (and removed from our Linkinpedia), two Hybrid Theory shows confirmed:

1999.xx.xx Los Angeles, CA, The Gig-Hollywood, "Mike Galaxy Presents" Indy Hits Showcase
    2000.xx.xx West Hollywood, CA, Troubadour

We can take out 1999 and 2000, since that is an assumption (a pretty safe one though).

I also contacted Johnny Fedevich from Halogen/Dr. Lady and, according to him, Halogen and Hybrid Theory shared the same rehearsal space on Hollywood & Vine (HiFi Hollywood rehearsal studio we saw in Lockout).

  5. I saw that someone created the Chronic Future/Grey Daze 1999.02.01 show on setlist.fm and called the event "Best Of Triple Xposure".
We actually have this show in our guide (Chronic Future, Grey Daze, Still, Lemon Krayola, Dislocated Styles, Zack Phillips Band, Honey Bucket, Necessary Enemy), but I didn't know it has anything to do with "Triple Exposure". It is KEDJ-FM's (also titled "The Edge") radio program from that time dedicated to local AZ bands. Sean Dowdell was allegedly involved with it for some period. I contacted the user who listed it and it turned out he's a friend of Nedra Gunn - the person I spoke with about Fat/Grey Daze/Chindo Squad show not so long ago.

Greg: "So yeah this was a very long time ago. So one of our local radio stations used to host this event every week, I think, that was dubbed Triple Xposure, where they would showcase 3 local bands that they played on the radio or their local music program. So it might be a unofficial name for the event. My buddy and I went to see Chronic Future based on the fact he went to school with them. They were the headliner of the night and Grey Daze played right before them on the "main stage". It was a local bar/music club not that big of a venue. Had a main concert room, a room with a cigarette vending machine with a few pool tables, and another room where the bar area was with a small stage. The only reason I remembered Grey Daze was due to the fact, later, Chester fronted Linkin Park and my buddy informed me of it. As a matter of fact I used to have a squeeze water bottle of theirs that he gave me because his mic stand kept falling and my buddy and I kept picking it up and setting it up right. It was pretty cool it was like a bicycle water bottle that had their logo and their picture on it. I am assuming you want to know more about Grey Daze, so all I can remember was they did have a local support at the show I would say roughly 30 people were there specifically for them. Chester sported dread locks and they played a song titled B52 which I believed was about some kind of addiction, he briefly talked about it. Their guitar player who was I believe blonde and had long hair was pretty good. But that's my only real recollection of that band".

Greg also attended that Fat show with Nedra, so he was very kind to share his ticket stubs for both of the shows!
    Attached them to this message.

P.S. The program's title was printed as "Triple Xposure" on the ticket for some reason, but, as far, as I know, it is actually "Exposure".

  6. lol, true.

So, as I reported a few pages back, before being the shop, Club Tattoo was a regular convention type of show in Electric Ballroom dedicated to tattoos. That's what Mace was talking about, when he mentioned himself putting on conventions in the Ballroom in Grey Daze Story.

I found out there was also a related monthly event called Club Sex that was also dedicated to tattoos and piercing, but according to Mace, was like a "swinger night" that featured such vendors like adult book stores, wet t-shirt contest, etc.

Club Sex on Tuesday, 14th, Club Tattoo on Tuesday, 28th:
    musicvoicemagazine-feb1995.jpg

It also turned out that Grey Daze performed on the very first Club Sex and their performance was filmed by a person supposedly named Dene from a local video production company. It doesn't look like it's possible to find and obtain the tape as of right now. If it was indeed the very first Club Sex as my two different sources suggest, then the show took place sometime between late-1994 - early-1995. Added the show to the first post.

  7. King Of Chaos posted about Chester on Facebook saying:

"Chester Bennington will be joining #KOC in Vegas
look forward to hear him sing songs from The Cult, Billy Idol and Stone Temple Pilots
    #linkinpark #stp #kingsofchaos"

If that's correct, this will be the first known time that he will cover Billy Idol and also the very first time he will cover The Cult since Grey Daze days.

The official show poster lists "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Firewoman" by The Cult, "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol and "Vasoline", "Sex Type Thing" and "Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots among others:

  8. Did anyone ever try to figure out what's on the posters in the "Esaul" video from Frat Party?

The Staind one, for example, is their Family Values '99 tour poster, so there's no way the vid is earlier than late-1999.

Also, that's a different room than the one we saw in "Lockout".

  9. Edited the first post. Since the last time I updated it, I:

    1) Found out the exact date for "Lockout" performance:

    http://lplive.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=12232

    2) Found a new show @ The Backalley with Alien Ant Farm, Hoobustank, Boy Hits Car and Kundalini.

    http://lplive.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=12361

Boy Hits Car question from the last few posts is now solved.

    3) Just found out the exact name of the rehearsal studio both the "Lockout" and the "Frat Party" performances were filmed at - HiFi Hollywood. Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20151216203827/http://www.hifihollywood.com/

  10. According to the press-release posted by msopr.com, Chester is set to join The Hellcat Saints for Rhonda's Kiss' 2nd annual benefit concert on November 3rd at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Rhonda's Kiss is a charitable organization supporting various area programs that assist cancer patients in need.

Also according to the press-release, "The L.A. collective will feature Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), Scott Shriner (Weezer), Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age), Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver) and special guests Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), Juliette Lewis (Juliette and the Licks), Mark MacGrath (Sugar Ray) and Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine). The rock group WEEZER is the headlining act for this year’s benefit concert, with musician/TV host Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray emcee-ing the evening. Today, September 29, an additional 100 tickets were released-which include elevated viewing of the show on the mezzanine and two drink tickets–at a special price of $125.00 for this one-night-only benefit concert. These tickets are only available online at rhondaskiss.org.
As previously announced, Academy Award-nominee, actor, producer and musician Johnny Depp will be presented with the first “Healing & Hope Award,” which honors an individual or group of local heroes who have a positive impact on cancer patients, survivors and those in need".

This will be the third time that Chester will join The Hellcat Saints after his appearance at E3's Let It Die party on 2016.06.14 and his appearance at the GameStop Expo's Mafia III presentation on 2016.09.14. The songs Chester has performed with the band so far include: Black Sabbath's "Hole In The Sky", Alice In Chains' "Them Bones", Stone Temple Piltots' "Down", Motörhead's "Ace Of Spades", Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City", "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Paint It, Black" both by The Rolling Stones.

  11. Got to talk with Nedra Gunn - the person who first posted about seeing Fat/Grey Daze/Chindo Squad show on YouTube. I asked him about the exact date, because I didn't know it at the time (but was able to figure it since then) and he just replied to my message:

Nedra Gunn: "I don't remember the date, but it was a badass show. It's where I first connected with Chester Bennington, I got him some water because he had a bad cold and a sore throat [...] Grey Daze and FAT were awesome. FAT played "Downtime", it was pretty cool and I watched all of the sets. I got Chester a water and he put it into a water bottle that he gave to me later after the show. The bartender tried to charge me for the water, like $2 and I told him it was for Chester, so he just gave it to me. I also got a bunch of demo CDs and stickers. It was a good venue even though they shut the Electric Ballroom down not too long after that show. Oh yeah, I also remember that the singer for Chindo Squad was also the drummer. They rocked too"

He doesn't have any of the demo CDs or stickers anymore, but his memories are pretty clear:

Nedra Gunn: "Chester and I had a good laugh afterward even though I was about 13 and he was 21 I think. He still had long hair and no tattoos. He reminded me of a male version of Janis Joplin's voice with their material back then, especially on the song "Just Like Heroin", really soulful and heart-wrenching vocals.
I think my guitarist's mom might have the Grey Daze water bottle I got from Chester. I gave it to her because she had to work that night and couldn't go to the show"

I then asked him if he thinks the band played "Just Like Heroin" at that show and if the bottle had a Grey Daze logo on it and he said:

Nedra Gunn: "Yes, they played JLH and B12, Sometimes and several others. I will ask about it. The water bottle was gray with their logo and a picture of the band printed on it. Meeting Chester that night really put my mind in motion to be a musician myself and I have had the liberty to meet and get to know many artists including some of his current members of Julien-K and Dead By Sunrise, including longtime friend Ryan Shuck"

Thanks to him, it's our first legit review of a Grey Daze show.
    Updated the page: http://lplive.net/shows/db/greydaze/19970823

  12. Thanks a lot for your kind words, guys. Great interview.

I'm here since the very beginning as well. Thanks to Serg, I then became an admin sometime around mid-2007, I think. I was on and off with my LPLive duties for a few years due to my commitments to BelowEmpty.com, but when my two worlds had finally collided and Chester joined STP as their frontman I decided I belong here more that anywhere else.

  13. So looks like the date

2005.11.05 Mesa, AZ, Mesa Amphitheatre, Taste The Music Festival

was actually going to be the first Dead By Sunrise show (Chester's solo show to be exact), not a Bucket Of Weenies show.

Posted by Amir Derakh on Julien-K forums on October 27, 2005:

What would have been the first perfomance of Chesters solo project with Julien-K at the Taste The Music Festival in Arizona Nov 5th has been cancelled... WE WILL NOT BE PERFORMING! It was decided today not to play the show... SORRY!!!

How you find this stuff is crazy. Great job. Wow.

Not related to BOW, but since we're talking about the show in this thread, here's another interesting comment by Amir regarding that cancelled performance:

Let's just say it had nothing to do with us being "ready" to play and BTW we were only doing 3 songs acoustically anyway...
