  1. Sean recently made a post about Grey Daze on Facebook to honor Bobby Benish. A lot of people came over and commented remembering Bobby and the good times they had with the band.

    The most interesting tidbits:

John of Lemon Krayola: "Remember when our rehearsal studios lost power and a certain band had a generator. All the band's sat there listening to your set. That's when I was like.. Holly shit their really good. I like we had a little rivalry it made both our bands want to be better".

Jay of Lemon Krayola: "Brings me back to the Argo studios, and sitting on the floor in the first club tattoo after you got the keys, We were playing at electric ballroom that night. Good times".

Person: "I remember passing out flyers in Mexico and the studio parties rocked!".

Mace: "My favorite Buckeye [bobby ~ LESTAT] story is when the power went out at our rehearsal facility and he pulled his generator off the truck and all the bands came over while we jammed".

Sean: "Mine was when we played with Vince Neil and his smile was wrapped around his head the entire show. It was like a huge dream to play with him for Bobby".

Person to Sean: "I do remember ...everyone was so shocked you cut your hair ...that was right before you played at the mason Jar... Battle of the band's".

Also, a lot of people seem to still have Sean Dowdell & His Friends t-shirts.

  2. That sounds awesome. Chester's voice had some nice intensity going on. We seriously need pro footage for one of these shows. Hopefully eventually than Never

Yes, I like how he almost effortlessly sounds so strong on that video. It's also nice to have it because the audio is very clear since there's no crowd and all.

The only SBD recording we have is I'm 18, it's a cool one.

Speaking of that show, the whole 3-song set was recorded and produced by Mike Clink who is known for producing all of the Guns N' Roses' albums minus "Chinese Democracy". The known "I'm Eighteen" recording is one of those songs. I know Mike Clink doesn't have it anymore and since it was so long ago and Camp Freddy are no more, it's unlikely we'll ever hear it. But, it's probably a good thing Matt Sorum didn't play during that show, otherwise there would be no chance at all, since it seems like he owned the band name. It looks like the whole point of disbanding Camp Freddy and forming Royal Machines that primarily consists of the same people was ditching Matt. I almost find that press release humorous:

CAMP FREDDY, the Los Angeles-based "jam" group featuring Dave Navarro, Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum, Donovan Leitch and Chris Chaney, has officially called it quits. Navarro, Morrison, Leitch and Chaney will continue playing together in a brand new "all-star covers fun-times band" called ROYAL MACHINES....

Anyway, it would be awesome to have "Whole Lotta Love" from that show, at least.

  3. From Royal Machines' Facebook:

    Time to clear the air:

Yes- we are playing in Cleveland, Ohio on July 21 at a charity event for Boulder Crest Retreat for Military & Veteran Wellness. I believe this is the 3rd of 4th time that we have had the opportunity to be a part of raising funds for such a great facility.
This is not a political event and it is not a part of the RNC. In fact, we'll probably be onstage when the nominee is speaking.
    Don't believe the hype.

  4. Got to chat with Jodi Wendt of Waterface just recently and here's what she had to say in response to Sean's words that once Chester left the band they had never performed a show with Dave Sardegna and Jodi under the name Grey Daze.

Jodi Wendt: "We did play at least 2 shows as Grey Daze before changing the name to Waterface - Big Fish Pub in Tempe, which was my first performance ever in a band, and at Jackson's on 3rd in Phoenix. We dressed up as members from KISS".

She also sent me the ad I attached to this message. The show is already in the guide, but we should

    1) add that new newspaper clipping to the show page;

    2) list all of the October 1998 shows (four, to be exact) as "GREY DAZE Shows Featuring Jodi Wendt";

    3) move both Coconut Teaszer and Whisky show up in the list between 1998.04.26 and 1998.10.17 shows.

It also means we're a missing at least one show with Jodi (the above-mentioned Big Fish Pub gig).

Also, the timeline is getting clearer!

  5. Not necessarily a corrections, but definitely a few things to look into:

Some guy from the comments saw the show on 2000.11.21. According to him, Hed PE didn't show up due to a bus problem.

Seen them in 03 with papa roach in joplin mo, Linkin Park was on the ticket but backed out the day before. would have been sweet to see them all that year.

He's probably talking about Papa Roach/Hed PE show on 2000.12.02 in Joplin during Master Bay tour. Linkin Park joined the tour a few days later after that date.

    - In the hidden track from Hed PE's album "Only In Amerika" the singer mentions "doing crack with Linkin Park" or something to that effect:

    - Hilarious story from 2000.07.27 show:

Yo guys, the first time i ever even heard of you was when you opened for The Union Underground in Philly. It was a free show at the TLA on South Street. Me and my friend talked to you guys outside before the show for like a half hour and you told us to make sure we were inside in time to check you guys out. Right from the very first second you hit the stage, you guys kicked ass. There was only a couple hundred people at the show. I remember some asshole kept spitting on Chester during the show. Then when guys left the stage, The Union Underground came out. Half way into their 2nd song, i fucked my knee up in the pit and couldn't even stand up for the rest of the show. I just sat there against the wall. Then when they were done playing i saw you guys again as i was leaving. Me and my friend stood around and talked to you guys for a while again. You remembered our names. One of you said "What's up Jon, what did you think of us"? Then i told you how phat you were and that i couldn't wait till the CD came out. Then i showed you guys my knee and one of you was trying to help me with it. I signed you mailing list and then walked outside. Chester was out there talking to that kid who had been spitting on him during the show. Then Chester asked if he could spit on the kid and the kid said "ok". So Chester spit on him. Then the kid spit on Chester again. I was sitting down 5 feet away from all of this. I got a kick out of it. The kid was a fuckin cock sucker. Anyway, a few days after that show i downloaded all the tracks from Hybrid Theory and burnt them on a CD. I had been listening to the burnt copy for months but when i finally hit the stores, i was there the first day to pick it up. I just have one thing to ask of you guys: CAN YOU PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM MTV?! You guys kick enough ass, you don't need MTV!

    - What is "Bullshit Free" and "Bullshit Free 2"?

hey guys....i haven't checked back here in a while...then i saw you guys on pimprock palace. i decided to check you guys out, and try to get more supplies for the street team. i've been down since you guys were hyrbird theory, in fact the song i have on my mp3.com site is still a hybrid theory song, not linkin park.(bullshit free, and bullshit free 2, your on one of these two) anyway, i just wanted to say congrats on the possible tour with (hed)pe, (hed) love til 2012 and beyond. oh ya, please, if anyone from the band reads this, tell whoever gets teh mail at linkinpark@yahoo.com to PLEASE reply......i didn't get a reply when i sent it to hybridtheory@yahoo.com, then i realized you changed the email with the name. anyway, i'd just like to know that you still acknowledge your fans. peace...and mad respect, you guys deserve it. ~carole ripjlynnstrait@aol.com

That guestbook is filled with random interesting mentions.

  6. Yes that makes sense. The conclusion that it's the 7/24 show was originally in Omar's guide and no one questioned it I guess.

There's no way there would be two Orlando webcasts and there's also no way we wouldn't have the HOB webcast.

That the show was in "Lake Buena Vista" instead of "Orlando" probably helped in the mixup.

How the mixup with the 8/16 show came together remains unexplained since that was definitely not the webcast date but who knows could be anything from a simple typo.

I listened to the show not too long ago and there is really nothing in there that helps. All they say is Orlando, they dont even mention the other bands.

Mason Jar was always the oldest video recording though.

    Added notes to both pages:

    http://lplive.net/shows/db/2000andearlier/20000916

  7. From that page: Be sure to check out Linkin Park as HOB.com and MTV.com present this 24-Hour Audio Cybercast recorded at the House of Blues Orlando on September 16, 2000.

    It is this show: http://lplive.net/shows/db/2000andearlier/20000916

I'm not too familiar with Linkin Park live recordings, but I think it's pretty obvious it's the performance AndOne is talking about on his post above. It was recorded on 2000.09.16 in Orlando, the recording was commonly mislabeled as 2000.08.16 (which happens to be a date Linkin Park also played a show on), but since the band says "Orlando" a few times during the recording, someone then mistakenly labeled it as the bands other show in Orlando on 2000.07.24.

The 2000.09.16 show happened in Lake Buena Vista which is part of the Orlando metropolitan area.

That means Mason Jar is now the oldest show recording we have, since there is no recording of the show in The Sapphire.

  9. Arizona Republic newspaper clippings:

New old Grey Daze article + old Electric Ballroom article that mentions the band + confirmations for shows that are already in the guide + 10 new shows that are not in the guide:

Check out the 1995.01.18 clipping from that post:

Karey Rose, manager of the band Grey Daze, said the club is the best run he's seen. He said the band has played in 15 venues in Arizona and New Mexico.

"All the things you could do to make a premier facility, they're doing," he said

I did not initially pay any attention to the article other than just this part. I was thinking that it's just another random article that randomly mentions Kerry talking on the subject for some reason.

When I sent it to Kerry he told me that he remembers going to that meeting, but I didn't ask him for further details. Now that I have a full scan from some other issue of the newspaper, I can see the article was actually talking about the Ballroom having some legal issues putting on its After Hours nights.

So Kerry's presence actually makes sense given the fact that, as far as we know, the band had started playing After Hours in two weeks. Very interesting that it was actually a City Council meeting and Kerry had to take part to defend interests of Grey Daze.

In the end, members of City Council gave the Ballroom's owner a three months permit to held such shows.

It also means the band never played such shows before that time, so it helps to understand the timeline as well.

I'd like the scan to be added to every After Hours night page.

  10. This show seem to fit the right part of the Sin City tour:

2005.10.26 Memphis, TN, New Daisy Theater

Super Diamond (Neil Diamond cover band), Spoon, Steve Byrne, other acts.

    http://observatorium.blogspot.com/2005/10/sequined-camel-toes.html
    http://spoontheband.yuku.com/topic/362/Fall-Tour#.VyBB5NSLS9I
    http://web.archive.org/web/20060111204612/http://memphis.citysceneblog.com/2005/10/camel_marketing_creepy_and_spo.html

And I'm pretty sure none of the advertisements and listings for what was supposed to be a Spoon conert made any mention that it was a Camel sponsored event. No, they cleverly wait until they have your money and you're safely in the venue enmeshed in the glittery mess. It's so disgustingly shady. Fuck you Camel! If I ever start smoking again I'll be sure not to buy any of your cancer sticks.

No surprise we are having hard time looking for these dates.
