  1. I am not listening to it, so I have no musical evidence to support this, but I have a feeling it is fake. What are the chances that a snippet just HAPPENS to leak the same day the name/date are made official. Everyone, including us and fake-video makers, are getting overly excited today and scrambling to make fake snippets/look for real snippets. Don't let the excitement of the official announcement cause you to assume that there are already real clips out there. Announcments have nothing to do with whether or not music has been leaked.

  2. I have the feeling some people are getting it wrong. I don't see it at all like a step back to Nu metal. Seriously, I see zero chances of getting songs like Forgotten, By Myself, Hit The Floor, or Don't Stay again. Apparently, if what they've said so far is true, the new album will be more of an uptempo record, while the last two were mid-tempo records, and in that way, it would reconnect with the old "full of energy"' LP. You can be "heavy and fast" without sounding nu-metal. And it wouldn't be a step-backward IMO.

I wasn't suggesting that it would sound exactly like Hybrid Theory or Meteora. Obviously, there is almost no way we're getting songs like that. Honestly, I see it as a cross between Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, but with less slow songs. I just feel like bringing back more guitars is kind of their way to get more older fans interested again. In my opinion, instead of just doing what THEY want to do, like Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, they are letting fans tell them what to do a little bit.

Either way, the album is still going to sound great, and I'm very excited.

  3. Don't get me wrong, I like the guitars a lot and I like Hybrid Theory through Minutes to Midnight more than A Thousand Suns. However, I still like A Thousand Suns and the way I see it, it's like they've come too far in their sound evolution to go back now. I don't think it's going to sound JUST like Hybrid Theory by any means, but I still see this as a step back in the evolution process and to me it's like, how can they tell us two years ago that they're going through this great change in sound and they're sick of the nu-metal sound, then go right back and go back to it.

I can't help but think that money/sales/popularity played a big role in this. Sure, maybe they just wanted to bring back guitars, etc. but you can't tell me that when they saw less album sales and half-filled arenas (at least the show I went to), that played a part in the decision to partly revert back to old ideas.

Again, I didn't hate A Thousand Suns, but it was probably my least favorite album in terms of individual songs, but I see this new transition of sound as being forced based on what they saw in fan support, rather than what they WANT to do, like Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns were.

  4. Well I didn't really want to get into this because I know I'm biased, but if no one else will make a suggestion for The Catalyst, I thought it sounded good at the Kansas City show while I was there. I'm not comparing it to very many shows, but if no one else has a better suggestion I'd say Kansas City.

    Edit: 100th Post! :o

  5. I was very nervous before this album came out. I knew it was going to be a lot different, but other than that, I wasn't sure what to expect. When they came out, I loved The Catalyst, liked Wretches And Kings and loved Waiting For The End, so so far things were looking good.

I didn't (and never do) download the leak and instead waited until September 14 when I went and got the CD. I remember being pretty disappointed at first, but it grew on me. Now I think it is just as good as their previous three albums, but in a different way. Individual-songs wise, I don't think it's quite as good, but listening to the whole thing top to bottom, it's great because of the overall experience of the album. While I would probably never add them to a playlist, the interludes add a lot to the overall album and help songs blend.

With A Thousand Suns, I found myself enjoying the slow songs more than the faster ones. My four favorite songs from the album are probably Iridescent, Waiting For The End, The Catalyst and The Messenger. Meanwhile, I don't like When They Come For Me, Blackout, and Wretches And Kings as much. i think the main reason for this is, I can enjoy a slow song without a lot of guitar. But for me, there has to be some guitar on the faster ones, which WTCFM, etc. lack.

As far as Robot Boy goes, it's my least favorite song on the album, but I still hope it gets played live before the ATS cycle wraps up, to keep the "every song" tradition going.

So, to sum it up, A Thousand Suns is a great album, but not my favorite all time. My main issue is that IT NEEDS MORE GUITAR. Not background/quiet guitar. Like loud, obvious guitar like past albums have had.

    Favorite Songs:

    Iridescent

    Waiting For The End

    The Catalyst

    The Messenger

  6. Why would it be the worst set list if he does it again? It only means that he has more practice and is improving his singing so that he may be more confident in singing more on albums and in live shows at a later time.

I have no problem if they keep NRL in BIO forever.

I personally don't think it would be a bad setlist (I have liked this set all along), my point is many members here instantly criticize and hate a setlist just because "OH NO IT GOT PLAYED TWICE!" Just look at the threads from the Las Vegas and Los Angeles shows where they played CFTI.

Vegas: "Cool they switched it up and played Cure For The Itch! I like it!

LA: "Cure For The Itch AGAIN!?!? Come on LP never does anything new!

He was referring to the constant complaining about setlists. Then they add something new. It's cool for a couple of shows then everyone complains about how there's nothing new again.

Yes, that's exatly what I meant.
  7. Wow. I seriously would have expected something like By Myself or And One before this. This is amazing. No Roads Left was always "I would LOVE for them to play it, but I KNOW they never will." I never expected to see NRL live in any form. I hope this is a sign that LP starts using fan input for setlists more and/or starts throwing in like 10 different songs over the BIO bridge. I have to admit, I always used to read the "maybe they'll play NRL this tour" and get annoyed by those posts, now I guess I can't complain. :P

  8. If there's discussion for the 1-year anniversary (which I'm assuming there will), I'll make a more in-depth post there, but for now here's what I have to say:

First, I did not download the leak and I never do because I always want to wait until the release day. However, I did listen to The Catalyst, Wretches And Kings, and Waiting For The End when the band released them.

A Thousand Suns is a great example of the sum being greater than its parts, in my opinion. As far as individual songs go, it's probably my least favorite LP album (but still good), but as a whole it's probably my favorite album by any band, because of the experience. Individually, yes, the six interludes seem annoying and almost pointless, but listening from top to bottom, they add a lot to the album.

Also, unlike most albums, i found myself enjoying the slower songs more than the faster ones. Songs like Iridescent and Waiting For The End are great, but I was not a big fan of, for example, Wretches And Kings and When They Come For Me.

I, like most people, would have preferred a lot of guitar. (Blackout with some heavy guitar could have potentially been my favorite LP song ever.) But even without it, this was overall a pretty good album.

  9. I, like most people here, prefer the old music over the new as well, but that doesn't make ATS bad. You have to stop expecting too much of this band. If you don't like the new music, why are you here? I mean opinions are fine to have, but it gets VERY annoying when every show thread ends up the same way, with the same people complaining about the setlists. If the last page from every show thread of the past year were put together in one thread, no one would see a difference, they all have the same ending. If you're unhappy, that's fine, WE GET IT, you don't have to keep telling us after EVERY show. I'm starting to think that someone should just create a new thread and let all this complaining go there, so we wouldn't have to weed through all of it in the show threads to get some actual useful discussion. Like I said, I would love to see some old songs in the set too, it would be awesome, but I'm not going to sit here and tell everyone, because no one wants to hear it and it's not really necessary to say it every day. Remember, don't let Setlist Trading Card Syndrome get to you. Admit it or not, LP concerts are still amazing. Especially people in the US/Europe, at least we have the opportunity to go to at least a concert per year, unlike South America, Asia and Australia.

To the people saying that they should extend their sets, remember that they probably have longer setlists than most of your other favorite bands already. I don't know why everyone treats LP different than other bands. They play three DIFFERENT (even if it is minimally) 20-song setlists and everyone complains they're not playing enough songs, but then another band plays one 15 song set and everyone is happy. Doesn't make sense to me.

Also, complaints ABOUT the setlist complaints are almost just as bad now .... so you people aren't much better. (I know I'm contributing to this too, but had to make this post)

  10. I must say it is kind of disappointing to see that LP totally squandered the best chance to play any old non-single material, but I can also say that this setlist is still completely kick-ass, and since I have never even been to a concert yet, I certainly won't complain.

To answer the question a few posts up, I really hate Faint as an opener. It has always seemed most appropriate as a closer to me, or at least 2nd to OSC or BIO. Something about the rhythm and whole vibe to the song just seems too off to start a concert.

Not too mention the outro just SCREAMS (no pun intended) "epic f**king finale", not "welcome to the show".

I think it has a great vibe as an opener; I would like to see The Requiem/CFTI dropped in favor of a long new intro to Faint. Yes, the outro is long and has a closer feel, but it's still awesome anywhere in the set and I still think One Step Closer's outro is an even better closer. I would say the outro could be shortened, but I think that would take a lot of epicness away.
  11. I really think everyone needs to cool down about this whole setlist thing a bit. I get that it would've been a good opportunity to play some older songs and not have to worry about the whole casual listener thing, but at the same time, the singles are singles because theyre good songs, right? Not everyone has seen them live nine times, I saw them once in 2008 and if I saw them again, I wouldn't care what setlist it was, these guys are awesome live, no matter what songs they play. LP never told us that this show would have anything different about it setlist-wise, so I'm not really sure why you all expected it. More than just expected actually, you guys are treating it like LP did tell us it would be a show full of old school songs and promised to play Robot Boy or With You or something like that and then just played this set. But that's not what happened. The fact that this show happened at all is amazing, they didn't do it for the show, they did it to raise money for people who's lives have been completely destroyed, for people who have lost loved ones, that was the band's main concern when they had the idea for a secret benefit show, not an opportunity to play some rare songs, so stop complaining.

Exactly my thoughts. I'd like to see an old song as much as everyone else, but I have also seen Linkin Park only once, at this year's Kansas City show, and the LAST thing on my mind after that show was being disappointed about no Figure .09, With You, etc. This show was meant for a good cause, not to play a bunch of different songs. Yesterday, everyone was saying how THIS IS AN AMAZING SETLIST! and now everyone hates it. What happened to everyone wanting The Messenger back? First everyone wanted it, now people are saying they don't. Just be happy LP changes their setlists a little and does rotate. Most bands play the same set for a whole tour, and I don't see anyone complaining about those bands.

PS Faint is probably my favorite opener.

  12. I almost included A Place For My Head but didn't for a couple of reasons. Honestly, I think that it's much better live and as much as I like it, it wasn't really a hit among casual/non-Linkin Park fans. Also, I ran out of room with 21 tracks and I don't think it deserved to be in more than anything that made it.

  15. Hey thanks. Screwed it up for sure.

OSC is a great song live but there are times when it isn't very enjoyable due to its placement in the setlist. I didn't like it closing the main set in A-1....it came so soon in the show in my opinion. That was the least I've ever enjoyed the song. Opening PR08 it was decent because I remembering having a discussion about whether I liked it opening or closing and I offered the suggestion of them playing it TWICE because Green Day sometimes does that lol and the crowd loves it. Opening it has a lot of energy but I concluded I'd rather see it close. PR08 West Palm it was insane after CFTI in the 2nd encore. I mean insane. ATL 07 it was insane starting the encore (hell yeah great place for it). Europe 09 it was insane after ND/Faint.

2011.....not much energy closing the main set. Meh. I'd like them to do it Reanimated again and maybe throw it as the last song. I don't understand LP because they said before this touring cycle started in South America that they were going to change up OLDER songs to be more "ATS-like". Not one song has seen any change this entire touring cycle and that's very unlike LP. I think some band members aren't enjoying the shows as much possibly.

I agree, I was hoping for new intros/outros, especially because some of the new songs have very long intros. The only changes I have noticed are very small ones, like the ending of No More Sorrow (instead of repeating "your time has come to be replaced" 3 times, he now repeats the whole chorus again), and the extended outro of One Step Closer kicks in a little sooner.
  16. I put it as one of my least favorites in that thread, but I still really like it. It is one of my least favorite songs on MTM, but the album is great, so it's kind of by default. Don't get me wrong, it's really good, especially for easy listening like LPxDC said, but most of MTM is better. It just shows how good the album (and all of LP's music) really is.
